Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com @hbharvest

Hey, hi, and welcome to the last Sunday in February! This month flew by…it was so insane, so much has happened. Things like traveling thousands of miles away to South Korea, my brother winning GOLD at the Olympics, my brother’s good friend Kyle Mack (who’s considered family in the Gerard house) winning SILVER at the Olympics this past Friday, and then you know the complete chaos that goes along with all that. It’s been a lot, but it’s all been incredible.

I’m feeling pretty grateful.

I know that we still have ten months left in the year, but I am pretty sure nothing can top this month. It’s been one for the books. I just want to say thank you again to all of you who have left incredibly kind comments, emails, and notes over the past two weeks. My family and I have read through all the comments on the blog and are filled with happiness from your words. It’s a little too hard to respond to everyone, so I just want you guys to know we’ve seen them all and are so appreciative! Thank you! Thank you!

In others news, I spent this past week doing things that are not normally in my job description (hello to taking care of all the animals, grocery shopping and extra cleanup), so it’s been a bit of a week. I’m also happy to report that some new projects are in the works…both exciting and scary all at the same time…stay tuned. Lastly, I’ve a been pushing through some creative blocks, but I just keep saying to myself in my head, “just keep swimming, swimming, swimming“. Literally the best life advice.

And that’s my week in a nutshell.

Coming up this week on Half Baked Harvest, we’ll be kicking things off with a fresh pizza recipe, having fun with some vegan eats and sheet pan dinners, and closing the week out with a new favorite recipe. Should be a pretty great week! If any of you are doing Sunday Meal Planning, or just looking for some new dinner ideas, check out number nine on my favorites list.

Have a great Sunday and enjoy this weeks favorites!

2. Instagram Q&A.

I did a Q&A on Instagram this week and while I answered A TON of questions, I picked six of my favorites to share with you guys today.

Q: How many siblings do you have?
A: I am one of 7, there are 5 boys and 2 girls. The order is as follows, Creighton, Trevor, Brendan, ME, Malachi, Red, Asher.

Q: What’s your favorite go-to quick lunch?
A: Either these Moroccan Chickpea Bowls, this Tuscan White Bean Soup, or this Avocado Chicken Salad.

Q: Do you live with your little sister?
A: Nope, I don’t live with Asher. I just like to hang out with her as much as possible and it’s easy because she lives about a football field away from me…yes, I am neighbors with my parents!

Q: Do you have a boyfriend, and if so how do you handle so much work with a relationship?
A: I am very single and probably for the reason that I just do not have time. Pretty focused on my work right now and very happy with where I am!

Q: What is your natural light set up for your photos?
A: I have one large north..ish facing window in a kind of dark…ish room with no other windows. I prefer to have one source of light coming from one direction to allow for natural shadows. If you follow me on Instagram, I did a video of my set up.

Q: Will you being doing workshops in the new Studio Barn? If so can you give some details on them?
A: Yes! The studio will be done in May. I have some projects that I am working on first, but once those are complete I hope to focus on creating a few workshops. I’d say to look out for them this fall/early 2019. My plan is to focus on photography and food styling workshops. I’d love to know if there is anything specific that you guys would love to see out of a workshop from me. Let me know!

6. Self Love and Acceptance.

I really enjoyed reading this article on self love and acceptance. I think this is something we’ve all struggled with at some point in our lives, I know I struggle with it almost daily. If this is something you too struggle with, read this article.

My two biggest takeaways.

  1. accept who I am, identify my strengths, and allow those strengths to guide me.
  2. put aside self judgment and go easier on myself. Ask myself, “would I be this hard on anyone else?”. If the answer is no, then it’s time to give myself a break. Easier said than done, but I have to try!

Once you’ve read the article on self love and acceptance, let me know, what was you biggest takeaway? Is there anything you plan to work on trying to improve?

PS. the ultimate way to practice self care, according to Emma Roberts.

  1. Yes!!! I am beyond excited for the workshop. 🙂 Looking forward to learning how to style the food and get great details from you.

  2. I’m so super excited for your family!! I’ve been disconnected from everything trying to focus on personal matters. But I am coming back to wonderful blessed shared news… Curious to know with what your brother and friend won the gold and silver metals (which sport)? God bless your family and may your successes continue to honor your family.

    1. Hi! I am so happy for Red and Kyle as well. Red won a gold medal in slope style and Kyle won a silver medal in big air. Both of these events are snowboarding! Thank you!

  3. sounds like a terrific February! by this time next month you’ll say “How did that even happen?!!” as for JUST KEEP SWIMMING…?, as a special educator, that’s been my students mission statement for years! simple, concise, because “Only Dead Fish Go With the Flow” love your site, your recipes, I make several a month, wishing you continued success!?

  4. I saw the Big Air competition the other night and even had my Mom watching it and we were cheering for Red and Kyle, and Chris. Sorry Red didn’t medal, but really happy Kyle did since you were crossing your fingers for him. It was so funny seeing Red run up to him and jump on him, so happy our guys who are also close friends grab the gold and silver. If you can give my best to Kyle as well as Red (sure you already have for Red). It’s great that our snowboarders did so well and how they keep bringing new sports to the Olympics. I know things will be crazy for all of y’all for sometime with Red winning the gold. I enjoyed your post today as I always do. Food looks soooo good! Is your family staying for the closing ceremonies? I know I would since them being a day ahead was only one more day away! Go all out and close it down. I bet you are ready for them to Gert back home so they can feed the critters. It’s hard work I grew up on a farm, some people can’t imagine what goes into dealing with all kinds of farm animals, it is very hard work.

    1. I am so glad Kyle got silver in that competition, Big Air is his thing and Reds is slope style so they both did amazing! My family ended up going to Seoul instead of the closing ceremonies to see the city and spend time with Red!

  5. Oh Tieghan, I wish I knew you personally! I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your work and writings. You are so talented in what you do. Your recipes are probably the BEST I’ve ever cooked and your photography and staging are incredible. I kept trying to figure out when Red was airing on the west coast, but I missed it. My husband casually said “oh the boy you are in love with won gold”-HA!!! I tried to explain to several people how I felt like I know you since I’ve read your blog for years, but the more I explained the crazier I sounded lol. I was so excited He won!!!! Your family is full of incredible talent, what refreshing inspiration to see people using their strengths instead of forcing the “rat race” of keeping up with the Joneses.
    Enjoy every day.

    1. This is too sweet! I am so glad you enjoy my blog and recipes and it means a lot that you cheer on my family as well, Joy! Thank you so much!

  6. Hi Teighan! I feel like I know you now. I have followed your blog for a few years now and made many of your recipes. I remember your announcement months ago that your brother had qualified for the Olympics. When I watching the Olympics and saw Red’sgold metal run, I started to connect the dots…..Red was your brother……and he was your brother! Since that time, I’ve become obsessed with your blog and your family (not in scary way). In your blog, the day you posted the “Red’s brownie” recipe, I saw that he was a picky eate. Somehow I stumbled onto the U Tube video when you and Red made potato chip chicken. I had made a similar version of that before and my kids loved it. In honor of Red, I made “Red’s chicken and brownies” on Friday and then we watched Big Air. What a cool kid! What a great family!

    1. Awh this is so sweet Mary Kay! I hope Red’s chicken and brownies turned out amazing for your entire family! Thank you!

  7. I was not one of those kids who got their license the second their birthday hit…in fact I was downright terrified of driving and didn’t start until I was In college. When I was first starting out driving solo, I used to say Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming outloud to myself until I got where I needed to go!

    1. Those are micro orchids. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
