Nine Favorite Things

Happy Sunday! We’ve had such a mixed bag of weather this past week. Rainstorms, sunny skies, and smoky skies…sometimes all within the same day. It’s that time of year when things weather-wise can be very hit or miss. But it’s also one of the prettiest times as well. The flowers are still blooming and everything feels very lush. I especially love all the warmer days we’ve been having. It’s been very serene and our sunsets have been magical, I’m trying my best to soak up every minute. In just a few short weeks things will really start to cool off, especially at night. BUT, our leaves will slowly start to turn those wonderful autumn shades, and my favorite time of year will be here!

I know that’s so crazy to think, but our fall happens during that last week of August and the first two weeks of September. By October the leaves have all turned, and a lot have already fallen. It differs each season of course, but our fall is beautiful and fast.

Speaking of going fast, this week was a whirlwind, and it’s looking like next week will be the same. We have so many exciting projects in the works. Which is amazing and exciting, but by Friday evening I had a real “Frazzled Friday Brain”. There are just so many loose ends and decisions that need to be made.

We have a photo shoot coming up that has moved from location to location. From Aspen, to here at the studio, to Malibu, then back to Aspen, to Texas, and then finally back here to the studio. We still haven’t decided for sure on the location. I kind of felt like a chicken with my head cut off all week. But we’re getting back on track today and we’ll confirm a location. I’m feeling excited…still frazzled, but excited. That’s just kind of me…all the time.

In other news, my brother Red has been home in Colorado this week (with Hailey too). It’s been awesome to see a little more of these two and cooking a few recipes with them in mind. They travel a lot, so when they’re back in Colorado, it’s always nice to get to catch up. It made these crazy days a little more calming because that’s their vibe, very chill.

They’re heading out tomorrow with their new pop-up camper. My parents and Asher are joining them on their first stop. Creighton and Malachi are meeting up with them too. They just need to decide…Steamboat or Aspen?

Let’s see, what else. With school starting soon, I’ve been thinking about good Sunday night dinners we can make for late August and September. I’m already so excited. I’m not a fan of Sundays, the actual day that is. But I love a cozy and relaxed, warming Sunday night family dinner. Sharing a few of my favorite recipes below.

Lastly, I’ll end this ramble session with something fun. We talked to a few designers this week. I’m finally putting things into motion to finish up our studio space and my home. It’s so much work, but so exciting. I can’t wait to be able to share more!

Coming up this week on HBH we’ve got cheesy stuffed peppers that are the perfect family dinner. A delicious new peach recipe. And for the rest of the week, we’ve got summery tacos, fresh pasta, and one of my favorite cakes. So many good recipes to share!

Question: what’s keeping you smiling these days? What are you looking forward to?

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try…

loving…summer peaches from Tenerelli Orchards. These are without a doubt the best peaches I’ve ever had.

loving…florals from Grace Rose Farm. Their Instagram feed is so pretty, it always makes me happy.

listening to…Kim Kardashian West on We Are Supported By. My favorite podcast of the week. I was so taken back by the kindness and knowledge of Kim. I already had a lot of respect for her business-wise, but this podcast interview really spoke to how multifaceted she is and her kindness for others.

empties…Shani Darden Retinol Reform. I’ve said it before, but this product has really changed my skin and is a must for anti-aging too.

dreaming of going to…New England to see the autumn leaves. Aspen too, which is a bit closer to home.

reading…Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle. We love reading this to Oslo, it’s his favorite book!

ordered…these fun glasses. For upcoming autumn cocktails.

loving…Osprey Poco Child Carrier. Recommend via my mom, of course, who hikes with Oslo every day. My parents really love all the features (lots of storage) and the adjustable fit of this carrier.

wanting to try…an Infrared Sauna Blanket. I’ve been hearing about the benefits of these blankets. I’m so curious to try one out myself to find out if the price tag is worth it.

recommended read…Educated, the true story of Tara Westover, whose family was so isolated from society in her small town in Idaho that she was seventeen before she ever even stepped into a classroom.

ordered…the Beauty Blender (Asher stole mine) and Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in nude pink (trying something new).

loving…JuneShine, an all-organic hard kombucha. I’ve really been enjoying one at the end of the day. Grab 20% off and free shipping using my code, HALFBAKED.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: How do you clean out your candle jars again?
a: freeze the jar overnight, then pop the frozen wax right out of the jar, works every time.

q: Did you have any nicknames around Tieghan growing up?
a: no not really. People call me Tieghan or T. Well, I guess my mom does call me Tieg.

q: Home design or clothing trends you’re totally over?
a: the skinny, small frame sunglasses from way back in the day. They’re not for me.

q: Have you ever pitched to Food Network or have they asked you to host a show?
a: nope! they’ve never been interested in me.

q: What’s your favorite dessert of all time?
a: my mom’s death by chocolate, it’s the best! And then anything chocolate peanut butter cup.

q: Who is one person alive or dead, that you’d love to have dinner with?
a: My grandma, I miss her so much.

q: What is your favorite flower?
a: it’s hard to pick just one, but I love dahlias right now and they’re about to be in season!

q: Any good housewarming gift ideas for newlyweds?
a: unless you’re making something super personal and unique to the couple (or their new home), I always say money. A gift card to their favorite home store is nice too. Newlyweds usually have a lot of expenses. Most newlyweds I’ve talked to say they really just appreciate money to put towards the things they need. Of course, that depends on your relationship with the couple. If money is weird to gift, you can never go wrong with a cast iron skillet. Anything Staub is my go-to.

q: What are you learning about yourself right now?
a: that I miss some of the other creative outlets I used to love so much before cooking. I miss the side of me that spent hours putting outfits together or re-arranging my room. I’m excited to finally be getting back to some of that…fun things coming that are a little different ?

q: Do you watch any cooking shows?
a: nope! I’ve never seen even one in its entirety, they’re just not my personal favorite.

q: Do you have an ongoing list of recipes to test or do you get inspired when shopping?
a: I have an ongoing list always, but tend to ignore it and cook what I feel excited to cook at that exact time. I get bored really quickly. If something isn’t exciting me, I make something totally different based on ingredients I have on hand, or my mood.

q: Ever turn down a brand partnership? If so, why?
a: yes! I turn down 90% of the partnerships I’m offered. If a brand doesn’t align with me, I turn it down. I’m lucky to get to work with only the brands I really do love the most.

q: What is your advice for someone in a career rut?
a: try new things. If you can travel, do it. Have new experiences! If you’re in a job you don’t love, stay at the job until you’ve found something you do love. But at the same time, start a side hustle or get a second job or internship. It’s the only way to discover what you might want to do that could actually make you really happy! you might have to work a little harder, but it will all be worth it 🙂

q: What was the most beneficial method of building your followers?
a: I know this is so overstated, but be genuine. Only post what you love and stand behind it 125%. Be yourself and don’t try being like everyone else. Your uniqueness is why people follow you. If you post the same thing every other person is posting, or post something generic just to get a post up, people will see right through that. I always say quality content over a lot of content is the way to go. And make sure that what you’re sharing is true to who you are. Also, be consistent with your content. Consistent quality content is the key to gaining a loyal audience.

5. My 3 goals + 3 random things.

Back sometime in January, I mentioned that I think weekly goals (as opposed to new year’s resolutions) feel so much more doable, exciting, and so much less daunting. I fell off making them…of course, but want to share this week’s goals to hold myself accountable.

my goals for the week ahead:

1. Enjoy my photoshoot. Even though I’m really stressed about my upcoming shoot and all the details, my goal is to enjoy the day/days. I want to embrace getting to shoot with a friend, and make the best with what we’ve got.

2. Learn to accept my limits and outsource instead. Because I can only do so much as one person. This is easier said than done, but I am getting better.

3. Send out a round of flowers to a few people who need them. I love sending flowers but haven’t done so in a while. I have a few people in mind who could use a welcoming delivery this week. Grace Rose Farm has some of my favorites flowers. What are some other fun things to gift?

4. Bonus: Take more time at night for me. This is my bonus goal because honestly, this is always a goal. Some weeks I do better than others, but this last week was full of too many late nights. So I’m going to strive to change that this week.

question: what goals are you setting this week?

3 random things…

1. I want to start planning our fall cocktail Saturday recipes. What new cocktails are you wanting to see the most of this season?

2. Three people I am loving following.

– Sazan. For fun, everyday happy content, and beauty tips. And if you’re a mom, I would especially recommend following her. Her kids are so cute!

– Maeve Reilly. For all things fashion-related. She’s an incredible stylist and it’s fun to see what’s happening in the fashion space.

– Marianna Hewitt – For everything from beauty to career, her advice and beauty secrets are so good. If you love career topics and beauty I recommend her podcast too, Life with Marianna.

3. I need new candle and podcast recommendations, but especially candles. I have the same favorites…that I love…but with fall approaching I want to find some new ones. My requirements for a good candle? Made of beeswax, has a cotton wick, and a cozy autumn scent. I love a cinnamon candle too, but they’re harder to find.

a few candles I’ve enjoyed…

As for podcasts, I love the ones I love, but I could use a couple new ones to add in. I’m not much into storytelling or true crime podcasts. I prefer podcasts with interviews and interesting guests, that cover life and career.

6. Inspiring me on Pinterest.

  1. New Autumn Candle from Nest. I know it’s not beeswax but I seem to remember you loved their Pumpkin Chai candle. Here’s their description of it.

    Autumn Plum Classic Candle
This fall candle captures the sweet, woody aroma of freshly fallen autumn leaves with wild plum and cinnamon wrapped in the warmth of patchouli leaf and cashmere wood.

  2. Candle recommendation- Any thing Jo Malone
Eyebrow guru – a MUST follow Kristie Streicher! Really all 3 Streicher sister. All incredibly beautiful. Kristie- Eyebrows, Ashley – Hair, Jenn Streicher- Make-up. Strike is business, Beverly Hills. Stylists of the Stars! Very sweet, also.

    1. Hey Cindy,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing these recommendations:) Have a great week! xTieghan

  3. Hi Tieghan! Thank you for another inspiring Sunday post! I appreciate your hard work so much. Nine Favorite Things is my favorite post of the week! That house on Lake Austin – wow!! I always love your beauty recommendations – keep ‘em coming! I am a podcast junkie and my current favorites are Black Box Down (each episode is about a plane crash and what the industry has learned from each one – it is super fascinating and actually very reassuring as to how safe air travel is!) and The Unsolved Mysteries podcast (just like the TV show!) I also loved the Kim Kardashian West podcast interview – I think she is a very kind person who doesn’t get enough credit for her intellect and philanthropy. As for TV binges, I highly recommend BoJack Horseman on Netflix – I’m in the middle of my second binge, and it is both hilarious AND heartbreaking (and Mr. Peanutbutter just may be my favorite TV character of all time!) Have a great week, Tieghan!

    1. Hey Bethany,
Thank you so much for reading each Sunday! I am so glad you enjoyed the links I shared and thanks for the podcast and Netflix recommendations! Will definitely add these to my list:) xTieghan

    1. Hey Jill,
I love both to be totally honest, but the Tenerelli Orchard peaches are pretty darn good! xTieghan

    1. Regarding candles, you might want to try candles from Fontana Candle Company, fontanacandlecompany.com for delightfully fragrant candles. They have a wooden wick and are made from beeswax, coconut oil and pure essential oils and they come in heavenly scents such as “Cinnamon Orange Clove”! You will not be disappointed?

Lastly Tieghan, have you considered packaging your foods for sale in the frozen food aisle of the grocery store? If not, please do.

      1. Hey Pamela,
Thanks so much for sharing your candle recommendations! Sorry, I’ve not considered packaging my food, this is probably not something I would do at this time:) xTieghan

  4. I just really enjoy your Nine Favorite Things post – definitely Sunday morning routine!! Thanks for always sharing – think I need to investigate some of the skin care products you shared this time, also truly need to start journaling! : )

I’d go to both Aspen & Steamboat Springs if I were Red/Halley! Why not – they have a new camper!

    1. Hey Trish,
Thanks so much for reading alone each Sunday:) Lol I really do love my skincare products. So true, they couldn’t definitely do both! Have a great week:) xTieghan

  5. Hey Tieghan,
Thank you for your wonderful Sunday edition. I must echo everyone and say it is my favorite Sunday morning read and it is something I look forward to every Sunday. Enjoyed a batch of your crinkle top brownies this weekend as well. I ended up sharing with two friends (to keep me from gobbling them all up) and both friends went on and on about how delicious they were and requested your recipe! I am a speech pathologist and love using children’s books in therapy. Thinking about Oslo (so precious!), a website y’all might enjoy is book share time.com. It’s compiled by an SLP and you can search books by age or certain things you may want to encourage like the use plurals or adjectives etc. Have a great week and thanks again for sharing your creativity and all of the hard work that goes into it!

    1. Favorite candles: Nest Bamboo, DW Home Palm & Vetiver, Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. More spring than fall scents. Will post back when I find my new fall faves!

    2. Hey Mary,
Thanks so much for reading along and your thoughtful message, I am so glad you enjoy these posts as much as I do. Thanks for sharing time.com as a book resource, we will definitely check this out! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  6. Looking forward to your autumn recipes and cocktails (and photography!). It may be cliche, but it’s the time of year I look forward to the most <3

Have you tried luckyscent.com for candles? They're primarily a niche fragrance site, but they have a large selection of candles too and you can search by note.

    1. Hey Ashleigh,
Thanks so much, I really do love all things fall as well! Also, thanks for the candle suggestion, I’ve never tried luckyscent! Have the best week. xTieghan

  7. Wow so love your Sunday posts & Nine Favorite Things! It’s like waking up & catching up with a friend each week. I appreciate all the thought & work you put into it, as I know it’s not easy! You inspire me to cook, create, try new things.

    1. Hey Diane,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along this week, I am so glad you enjoy these posts as much as I do! xTieghan

  8. The Nine Favorite Things post are my favorite weekend reads! Thank you for taking the time to curate such great links- I imagine it’s super time consuming. I love seeing your candle recs and wish I could spend so much on one! Perhaps that would make for a fun giveaway this winter?

A few of my favorite fall candles:
    – Otherland cardamom milk (just came back out so order fast if you want one!)
    – Capri blue spiced cider
    – Sweetwater decor Hello Fall
    – I’ve read great things about the Nest pumpkin chai candle but haven’t tried it yet!

    1. Hey Hilary,
Thanks so much for reading along and your thoughtful message. A candle giveaway is a fantastic idea! Thanks for sharing your faves as well:) xTieghan

  9. Steamboat! There is a little known county ( I think) campground straight up the mountain from downtown. Very nice and you almost always see Moose on the drive up or down. Fish creek falls has great hiking!

    1. Hey Karyl,
Thanks so much for the recommendation, I will keep you posted on where they decide to go! Thanks for reading:) xTieghan

  10. Thanks for another great post! Your recipes are always a hit in our house!!

I’ve been listening to “Smartless”…it’s a fun and interesting podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes with a different guest each show.

    1. Hey Susan,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along! I am so glad your family has been enjoying the recipes. I will definitely add Smartless to the list, thanks for the suggestion:) xTieghan

  11. One of my favorite podcasts is Plucking Up with Liz Bohannon!
She interviews a ton of different people who are successful in a wide variety of things about ways that they got over mistakes to build meaningful brands and lives. Highly recommend!
Liz is also the founder of one of my favorite sustainable fashion shops called Sseko!

    1. Hey Brynna,
Thanks a bunch for reading today and sharing your podcast recommendation, I will certainly add Plucking Up to my list! I hope you have the best week! xTieghan
