Nine Favorite Things – mom and Asher in Miami

One week away and so much to share! We didn’t do a Favorite’s post last week since it was Easter Sunday. But we’ll get to all the fun today! Hope you all had a nice holiday with your families no matter what holiday you celebrate!

I’m not sure where we left off, but I flew home from LA on the 30th. I spent 72 hours at home, before repacking and catching a flight to New York. The plan was New York for a few days of work, then Miami for a few days of sunshine with my family. As always New York was perfect. I arrived late Sunday night due to flight delays, then went straight to my hotel. I stayed in Greenwich on this trip. I’m really beginning to love that area of New York. it’s so cute. It’s nice to see so many families walking the streets. It’s very different from staying uptown and close to the park. New York was mostly meetings and dinner meetings, so not a lot to share.

I had an amazing dinner at Indochine, a Vietnamese spot in NOHO. We ordered plates for the table, which I think is the best way to experience the most food at restaurants. You get to try a little bit of everything. If you’re in the city, I would definitely recommend this place. We loved everything we ordered. I especially enjoyed the egg rolls and incredible sauces.

I had a day of filming with, Mona Vond. Mona is such a light and bright person, I can’t wait to share the recipes soon. We made a couple of healthy Persian-inspired dishes that will be wonderful for spring and summer.

The rest of New York really was spent bouncing from meeting to meeting. Seems boring, but I loved the trip and the exciting conversations!

I flew from New York to Miami on Thursday morning and arrived to beloved sunny skies and 80° temperatures. We had zero plans for the next few days. My only agenda was to spend a day with Asher shopping. Which we did the very following day.

Asher, my mom, and I spent a good half day shopping around the Miami fashion district. We hit all the stores and saved ACNE Studios for last. I’m pretty sure Asher knew all along that this was the store she’d be getting something from. In fact, I’m pretty sure she knew exactly what she wanted before we walked in.

She can be very clever like that.

We picked her up a cute pair of sunglasses and also found the sweetest bow tie necklace. It was too cute on her to not get it. She walked out of that store a very happy girl. And that was it. She was happy and ready for lunch…just like our Nonnie would have been.

After shopping, we headed back to the hotel, dropped the goods off, then headed out for nighttime massages to end our day. Perfect day. The guys joined us for a dinner out – Dad, Creighton, and we can’t forget little Oslo too.

Also, before I got to Miami, Mom and Asher had their own “day”, and got facials at the Setai. This was only their second facial (we all went to Vail together a couple of years ago). But they said this wasn’t even in the same league as their first facial. They said it was such a nice experience. So relaxing, and their skin looked and felt amazing. My mom especially, really seemed to enjoy it.

The rest of our time in Miami was mellow. We spent time walking the streets of Miami, or the rec path, or sitting by the pool. Our days were sunny with just a little bit of rain, on Easter. We were all set to fly home Monday night. I went out as planned, but my family decided to stay until Wednesday. My mom’s sisters talked her into coming down to Islamorada, where they happened to be vacationing.

Their time there with them was fun, Asher and Oslo loved seeing their cousins. Asher’s friend from Cleveland, Izzy, was there too, so that was really fun for her as well. But if you follow on Instagram, you know all about their trip home. They ended up spending the night in the flooded, freezing-cold, Fort Lauderdale airport. The weather was crazy, and honestly, it sounded really awful and at times scary.

They opened one road out of the airport on Thursday. The family took an Uber to Fort Myers and finally made it home, after 60 hours of traveling and pretty much no sleep. I felt pretty bad for them, it sounded rough, and really cold. My poor mom and Asher froze, everyone was as bundled together as possible because the airport kept blasting the AC. But they made it home, safe and sound after a month of being away. They had the most amazing month, and all in all, two bad days aren’t the worst thing. They loved their time in the sun!

Hopefully, they’ll be able to look back and laugh! I personally feel pretty lucky for the time spent with them in Miami. The older I get, the more appreciative I am of time. I realize just how special these times with each other are.

And now we’re all back home in Colorado. Happy to be getting back into a routine, but also looking forward to hopefully traveling a bit more. I’m really enjoying it and the change of pace it provides. It’s nice to get out of the mountains this time of year.

I spent the week testing new recipes, working on a project we have brewing, cozying up to candles, surrounding myself with flowers (because it’s grey and snowy here), and looking forward to finding Mom something sweet for Mother’s Day!

Enjoy another Favorites, fun links, and lots of photos below!

1. things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…these adorable mini bags from Coach. I think I need to get Asher one for all her help these past few days (she’s amazing). Look at the Tabby Jelly Crossbody Bag. This reminds me of being a kid and wearing jelly shoes in Florida. But my favorite is the  Swinger 20 With Floral Print. I’ve seen it in a strawberry print and I’m now determined to find it for her. These are so fun and I know she’d love either.

wanting…to splurge on this adorable porcelain butter dish and marble cake stand from SOHO home.

everything in my cart (low)…I think this lace pointelle knit cardigan is so sweet and pretty. It looks designer, but it’s $50. These mid-rise wide-leg baggy jean are the perfect white jean for spring and summer. They’d also be really cute with that knit cardigan from above and a pair of strappy sandals.

I think this red skirt is super cute, I’m loving anything red or adding pops of red, it’s fun! This strapless satin dress would be cute in the spring with a blazer, or with a light cardigan in the summer.

And lastly, this ball cap is a cute affordable option for sunny days and running errands around town. Oh, and I adore this leather belt. I have a designer belt in mind that’s five times the price. They look almost identical.

listening to…Tips for Navigating the Grocery Store, Dining Out, & Healthy Swaps when Traveling with Mona Vand. Loved this conversation! Makes you love Mona even more.

dreaming of going…Monte-Carlo SBM, Monaco Resort. Please transport me here. This pretty hotel looks amazing, but that blue water is stunning too. Gimme all the warmth and sun.

ordered…a copper tongue scraper. Sounds weird, but I’ve been hearing more and more about how important tongue scrapping can be for oral health.

shopping…new arrivals on Zara Home.

reading…Kamp Studios. For, simple, laid back, but elevated and beautiful home design inspiration.

everything in my cart (beauty)…would love to try the resveratrol b e nighttime antioxidant face serum and glycolic 10 renew overnight treatment from SkinCeuticals. Oh, and I am so excited, I just ordered the Christian Dior Huile Abricot Daily Nutritive Serum. It’s supposed to help moisturize cuticles and smooth and strengthen nails.

Need to finally try the EltaMD UV elements broad-spectrum facial sunscreen SPF 44. Looking for a new sunscreen.

For the body, Nécessaire The Body Bar is an old favorite. I need to order a new bar. And Asher loves the Drunk Elephant Kamili Cream Body Cleanser. It smells really great too.

Lastly, I need the alpharet exfoliating peel pads from skinbetter for travel cleansers.

loving…the Etsy shop, Indemira. I just discovered this home design shop, I need to order the daisy mugs. I ordered every single size of these coffee glasses. These strawberry glasses are adorable (fun for spring and summer too). And then, I need these hand-blown glasses too.

following…Hotel-Weekend. Love this website. SO many new travel destinations to explore. They have guides to most cities and share the best hotels.

curious about…Fond Bone Broth. I put in an order and will report back. I’m going to try drinking this every morning. Supposedly, bone broth is one of the healthiest foods to exist.

wanting…anything from MUGLY.NYC. The prettiest handmade ceramic pieces. A set of these pieces would be so pretty on a bookshelf or long entryway table.

everything in my cart (high)…. The Aminah dress in black from Khaite is very pretty. And this cashmere shrunken crewneck from Tory Burch is a great basic piece.

How cute is this satin-trimmed straw fedora from Gucci? It comes in red too, which I love. Fun fact, my mom always used to put me in hats as a little girl. They are so cute, I love a good hat. And these rose gold diamond multi-stone earrings. Fun and pretty.

Everyone is talking spring and summer sandals right, I love so much this pair of Bottega Veneta black dot heels. The metal detailing is so pretty. I also love the simplicity of these slingback square toe sandals from The Row. The hazel color is pretty too. And the double G sandal from Gucci is a classic. So sweet and cute forever and ever. I don’t love a logo, but I do think these Fendi sport sandals are pretty cute. Or these Prada raffia flatform slides sandals are pretty cute too.

And lastly, I am kind of into these Adidas x Gucci Gazelle sneakers. I wasn’t at first, but they’ve grown on me!

shopping…Mrs. Mandolin. Such a cute Miami-based cafe with an online storefront too. I found their website and it’s full of the cutest finds. This platter is really pretty! I love their candle selection. And they have some unique foods too.

traveling…Dior Debuts the Ultimate Destination Spa at Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc…so stunning. I want to visit. I mean, a Dior hotel? Yes, I am here for that.

cooking…way too much. I tested 6 recipes on Friday.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: top 5 spices to always have in your pantry?
a:
– Paprika (smoked, hot, regular, Spanish – all of them)

– chili powder

– chili flakes

– cinnamon

– turmeric

– curry powder

– garlic/onion powder

– cumin

– chipotle powder

– ginger

– Chinese 5 spice

Honestly, I use spices SO much. They can add so much flavor without having to add anything from the store (pantry staples). Keep everyone single spice you like to use on hand at all times for easy dinners.

q: do you have any food allergies? You seem to cook all types of food.
a: Thankfully, none! I cook a pretty wide mix of everything.

q: also, are your hands ok? We see those scrapes and scratches, you gotta take care!
a: You all, my hands are beat up without a doubt, but we’re a-ok over here! I live in the mountains at 9200 feet, it’s so dry here it’s insane. My hands are in and out of water and I use them all day to cook. I have a lot of burns and unfortunately, they can crack easily. It’s no fun but we’re all good!! My skin got a break in Miami!! (:

q: How did you start working on the Snif candle?
a: I worked on the candle because I LOVE candles and the Snif team asked if I wanted to do a candle with them. They have my favorite clean candles so I jumped at the opportunity!!

q: portrait mode?
a: It’s not for me, I rarely use portrait mode.

q: I need to buy new dishes! What are your favorite brands?
a: For everyday dishes try Crate and Barrel. For fun dishes Anthropologie. And don’t forget Zara Home, they have great options too!

q: what specifically do you want to do in fashion?
a: I just want to show everyone that food and fashion can and do relate to each other. When we entertain, we want a cute outfit to look and feel our best. It’s such a confidence booster! When we’re home cooking, cute everyday clothes are fun. When we go out to dinner, we want to look our best. I find inspiration for recipes through fashion. I just want to share more of what I love with everyone – so food, fashion, and life in general.

q: do you enjoy or dread public speaking?
a: I would say I enjoy it!

q: when clothes shopping, online or in-store?
a: online for me.

q: how do you get a candle to burn evenly across the top?
a: Trim your wick every time you burn it! But if the candle is a low-quality candle, it’s probably not going to burn evenly no matter what.

q: what are your must-haves for spring?
a: Fashion: anything red (I adore the red tight trend), subtle metallic accessories, and skirts. I’m starting to get into the ballet shoe trend, but not there yet. And then belts and vintage slingback pumps.

Food: into asparagus. Big vibrant bowls with so many fresh herbs. Edible flowers.

Life: every last flower I can get my hands on.

Home: organizing and getting rid of all clutter. Give it away is my mentality.

  1. Sounds like a brilliant week, all in! Well, apart from the airport, which sounds horrible. Glad everyone is ok and home safe. Xx

  2. Tieghan, I love reading everything on your blog. It is very detailed and covers so many topics. And as usual I am looking forward to trying the new recipes as well. Thank you for all your efforts.

    1. Thanks so much for your kind message Marlie!! Love to hear you have been enjoying the content:) Have a great week! xT

  3. Hi Tieghan- are you able to share the name of the Hotel in New York? The most important thing in a hotel room is the bathroom, and that one looked great. I stayed at Soho House recently, which I think I got from your blog too. It was nice but the bathroom was dark
Thank you for your lovely blog I look forard to Nine Favorite things every week!! xo

  4. Your suggestion about trimming the wick is incorrect. You have to let the wax melt all the way across every time you burn it or you’ll get a permanent tunnel.

  5. Poor Mom & Asher! Heck of a storm on Wed for sure. Here on the west coast was bad but NOT as bad. Glad they made it home safe! It’s Fort Myers, BTW, one e. We were slammed with Ian 7 months ago so still lots of blue tarps, etc.

  6. I love all the links as usual! But I did want to gently point out that the Etsy shop you linked to, Indemira, that claims to sell “handmade” items is actually one of those sham reseller shops on Etsy that are selling mass-produced items (which is NOT allowed on Etsy but happens all the time anyway). A super quick Google search of their Strawberry Cute Nordic Glasses brings up results from all over the internet including Walmart and Alixepress. I am sure you were not aware when you shared this shop, but as a lover of Esty and the truly handmade product sold there, it pains me to see places like this get attention when there are so many truly talented people making and selling products on Etsy.

    1. Hi Meredith,
Thanks so much for reading!! I was unaware of this, but thanks so much for letting me know! Hope you are having a great week! xT

  7. Happy spring, I’m glad you took a break! My best advice…you do you,
Everyone needs to have some time away from the social. Media to relax and reset
    Looking forward to spring inspiration!

    1. Hey Carol,
Happy Sunday and thanks so much for reading!! I appreciate your friendly advice:) Hope you have a great week ahead! xT

  8. You mentioned your interest in fashion. Why didn’t you share any pics of your outfits from Miami?
You said, “When we go out to dinner, we want to look our best”. Weren’t you told to leave a restaurant because of your clothing?
What happened? There’s a disconnect between what you say and what you do.

    1. Wow, you really expect Tieghan to not only give you free content, free recipes, graciously show us pictures of her family time, give us great recommendations for food and fashion, and then complain we can’t see her outfits from Miami? And then try and make a point that she had an off day with dress code? That’s inappropriate and rude. You need to get a life and have some grace and gratitude.

Tieghan, you’re amazing. We appreciate all you give and do. Especially Sunday emails! You are a gift. Thank you for encouraging so many to live beautifully and eat well!

      1. You’re so mean spirited, Norah. This poor woman is obviously suffering from an illness and you’re thanking her for eating well? No one appreciates your sarcasm.

          1. They absolutely are the same person. Many different screen names, yet the same lame attacks every day/week. What a sad life. Obviously someone with serious mental issues, who needs to find something better to do.

        1. You’re obviously suffering from a mental disorder, and nobody is thanking you for your constant acting out on this site. No one appreciates anything about you, or your multiple screen names. GTFO of here, and find a good therapist.

        2. Planchette/Nic, you’re babbling nonsense again, and you still look like a bitter, jealous, and unhinged creep.

    2. Nic Planchette, it’s clear you are a very negative person whose vile behavior says far more about you than those you belittle. Maybe work on bettering yourself, accomplishing something positive, and being a decent human being toward others, for starters? You just might be surprised to find that some of that self-loathing dissipates. It’s worth a try.

    1. Hey Kai,
Thanks so much for reading today!! I know there are so many other great chefs and creators out there, but to be quite honest, I really don’t spend too much time following others. I really like to be creative myself and look to my family and the seasonal fruits and veggies for inspo! Let me know if you have any other questions! xx
