Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

Happy fall! Yes, it’s official, I can now talk about how excited I am for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I’m a holiday freak and the next three months are my favorite of the entire year. So very excited for all the spooky Halloween treats and cocktails this coming October.

What are you guys most looking forward to? Dying to hear what your favorite elements of fall are!

In other news, this week has been non-stop and I’m not going to sugar coat it, I’m a little tired and a little stressed as I type out today’s Sunday post. I spent the first part of the week in NYC for a quick work trip, with and event Monday night, and meetings both Monday and Tuesday. I got suck in the airport for a few too many hours (delayed in Newark due to storms) and arrived home late Tuesday night.

On Wednesday I hit the ground running, unpacking and attempting to organize the new studio space. We’ve made a dent, but honestly, we’re not even close to being organized. Thursday and Friday were my first days cooking, photographing, and testing new recipes in the new studio kitchen. I’m trying to a get used to a new kitchen, and new lighting for photos. I know these adjustments are just going to take time, but it’s been challenging, especially with the work load we have right now.

Of course on the flip side, the studio is AMAZING, and I know over time I will find a good grove, find the perfect window for lighting, and get back to feeling good again, but right now it’s a slightly overwhelming adjustment. Saturday was spent organizing props and playing with the light, so hoping to have a better hang of things today. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, that’s a glimpse into what’s happening around here. Complete chaos, but holding it together…kind of of.

Oh, and for those asking about whether or not we will be doing a full studio tour, yes, we will! It will mostly like happen late October or November. We still have lots to get done in the space before we are ready to share, but soon!

Coming up this week on HBH I’ll be sharing a new savory pastry recipe, some of the best fall inspired pork chops, and a brand new pumpkin recipe…just in time for the first week of October.

If you missed anything from this past week, be sure to sign up for our newsletter here. Hope you all are having the best fall weekend, and enjoy this Sunday’s Favorites!

2. The Best thing My Mom Ever Taught Me…

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

I get negative comments and messages fairly often, it just comes with the territory, and I usually brush them off and move right along with my day. That said, after receiving a not so kind comment this past week, on a day that was already hard, it put me over the edge and I let it bother me and sink into my thoughts the rest of the day. I’m 100% over it now, but just a friendly reminder that if you don’t have anything nice to say, there’s absolutely no point in saying it at all. It’s one of the the simplest lessons my parents taught us while growing up, and it’s also one of the most important.

Don’t bring others down.

  9. make my favorite pumpkin spice oatmeal latte, and share a mug with my mom for a cozy mid day break.
  10. get crafty and make homemade candles…because I love them so much
  11. plan Thanksgiving before November even starts to stay ahead of the craziness.
  12. stop and smell the pumpkins…because things are busy and sometimes I just need to enjoy the moment.

Question: what’s on your fall bucket list?!

Your recipes are a highlight of my day and I love your favorite things email with my coffee on Sunday morning. Let the haters hate and know the majority of us are inspired and delighted by all you do!?

  7. I love Fall and just the feeling of cozy and nesting in. On another note, I am so sorry you’ve had some negative people commenting. It is certainly not justified nor would it ever be. You have an amazing blog with delicious recipes. Keep up the great work and remember what you are doing has value and a following of people who respect what you are doing.

  8. Absolutely LOVE your posts, the daily emails and recipes! You are one of a kind!
First of all I can’t imagine ANYONE would have anything negative to say about you or this insanly amazing talent you have. Please don’t let the insecurities of others and their inability to appropriately communicate effect you. You are so much better then that. You cannot please everyone and that’s okay. Their loss, not yours. XO
I received your cookbook for my birthday and I’m obsessed!! Can’t wait to start cooking!

  9. No need to respond to this. Wanted to let you know just how much I loved yout bourbon fig cocktail and double streusel bars. Thanks for what you do

  10. Your posts are beautiful and you are a talented and an amazing person. My mother also taught me, if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. It’s a good rule to live by.

  11. Your mom taught you so well. She is right and thank you for reminding us of that. My mother used to say the same thing to me. Little comments with negativity send me into spirals sometimes, so I can absolutely relate. I truly enjoy your blog, your genuine nature, and your honesty. It is very fresh. You are driving me crazy with all these amazing pumpkin and pumpkin spice recipes….I am not a freak about the pumpkin spice, but I definitely love it. Not sure why I allocate it to the fall. My daughter is so funny…she allowed herself to have a PSL yesterday in honor of fall. That’s it…she says they are too sweet for her, but she has to have that ceremonial pumpkin spice latte. Cheers….and although autumn is a gorgeous time of year….I am usually sad this time of year because of the the decreasing daylight and the fact that the cold, dreary, gray of winter will be here and stay too long for me. Meanwhile, thank you for your hard work and dedication and for being a bright spot in my email.

    1. Thank you so much Karen! And I love that she had one, they are sweet but pumpkin is the best for Fall! I do not like when the sun sets earlier as well, but try to enjoy the beautiful day while its going on!

  12. Another amazing Favorites post!! Your blog is stunning!! I have complete respect for you in putting yourself out there! I’ve shied away from blogging because I’m not sure I could handle some of the negativity out there. Keep doing the amazing work you do and keep being strong!! ? P.S. LOVING your cookbook, too!

  13. Autumn is my top favorite season, so I’m all about EVERY element of it, haha. But of course the beautiful foliage and cozy sweaters are my favorite; and of course Halloween!

Wishing you way less stress and way more “me time” so you can relax amidst the busyness. Hang in there! xx
