Nine Favorite Things – Cleveland wedding with the family

I got home from Cleveland Sunday night and the week just flew by. First of all, Cleveland! Even though my trip was quick, it was honestly so nice to be back on Lake Erie. Back to big green trees, flowers everywhere, humidity, and all of my family. Every time I visit the eastern part of the US, I realize more and more how much I miss that environment. Being there was such a good reminder. I’m excited to be making plans to be spending even more time on the east coast very soon.

So that’s kind of exciting. Actually, there are so many exciting things happening right now. What’s annoying is that nothing is ready to share with you all just yet. So I really don’t have much to say other than, wow the summer is busy and the fall will be busier. We have so many GOOD things coming up, I can’t wait.

This week, I’m heading to Chicago for a quick in-and-out trip, quick but fun. I’ll be finishing up a project that we’ll finally get to share with you all in September. I don’t think any of you have guessed what this is just yet, so I can’t wait to share. I think you all will love it!

Chicago this week, then home for two nights. Then back to the east coast, this time to New York. Then down to Florida for a last-minute trip that I wasn’t planning on taking, but am very much looking forward to. The home crew will be joining me too, so that will be fun.

Speaking of the home crew, they are finally back from their month of traveling. Asher, Oslo, Mom, and Dad, and yes, Creighton is back too, and ready to eat. He’s been pushing me to make more beef recipes, which I’m enjoying. It’s fun to have family back to cook for again!

Aside from all that, I’ve been doing so much cooking and baking. Since I’ve been trying to travel more, my days at home are dedicated to testing new dishes, shooting videos, and photographing recipes. Lots of yummy new dishes to come!

What else, IG launched Threads, their version of Twitter, and honestly I like it. I’m not putting any pressure on it and just sharing more day-to-day thoughts. It’s fun and I love that it’s so easy to use. Nothing too techy about it. Are you on threads? Are you into it, or not?

I’ve been majorly shopping the Nordstrom sale. I’m sharing all my selects with you guys today. So many good finds for the home, the kitchen, and of course fashion.

Ok, ok, last thing, I’ve been clipping my dad’s dahlias every few nights and the fresh flowers make me so happy. Dahlias are my favorite. What are you enjoying this summer? I’d love to hear what is making you happy and excited!

Enjoy another round of Sunday favs!

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

everything in my cart (low)…Fun fact? When I was little I lived in my brother’s boxers shorts. I just wanted to be like them! So I’m loving that boxers shorts are now in style for women. These boxer shorts from Réalisation are perfection. Also love this cotton pair from J.Crew, and these from Hommegirls.

Tennis skirts are also a thing right now, this striped pleated stretch-twill tennis skirt is super cute from Varley.  Or I love this golden hour maxi skirt from Free People. This Gia link skirt from Reformation is a great find too. Also from Reformation, love this pretty knit dress and then, for fall, this cozy long downing coat.

This linen midi dress from Zara is so pretty. I especially love this color.

Bags, the Staud Tommy beaded bag in toile de pup is so cute. Love the palm trees. Also, the Tommy beaded bag in blossom garden party is fun if you love pink.

listening to…What is The Gut and Skin Connection? How Diet and Stress Impact our Skin with Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Nigma Talib.

dreaming of going…South Fork Lodge in Swan Valley Idaho. If you’re looking for something closer to home this summer, this lodge is stunning and looks magical in the summertime. I would love to visit soon!

loving…this pretty mirage wallpaper. This is so fun for a unique bedroom look.

wanting…The Ulla Johnson x Cabana collection from Net-a-Porter. I actually ended up ordering this pretty floral water glass. But on my list are the porcelain dinner plates, porcelain dessert plates, printed linen tablecloth, and printed cotton pouf.

everything in my cart (beauty)…I’d love to try the Joanna Vargas magic glow wand, which has 5-star reviews. In my Sephora cart, the Kosas plump + juicy lip treatment, and the Lawless overnight lip plumping mask. Also for lips, you can never go wrong with the Rhode peptide lip treatment (love the watermelon slice for summer).

I’ve been loving the Peter Thomas Roth hyaluronic gel eye patches lately. They feel so refreshing while on too. I’m also loving everything from SkinBetter Science. I’m testing their alto defense serum now and it’s so good.

Ordering these Joanna Czech cleansing wipes for travel days. And if you’re into nails, the Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour is so pretty. Plus it’s offered in so many fun summer shades.

And for the body, Osea algae body oil.

everything in my cart (high)…love this Slvrlake low rise micro miniskirt. It would be cute with this the Toteme striped poplin shirt and mohair-blend blazer from The Row. Also from The Row, I am so into their mid-rise straight-leg jeans.

This Acne Studios Sleeveless Wrap Dress is the perfect little black dress.

Shoes, these Bottega Veneta leather mules are fun.

And bags, I still love the Bottega Veneta small leather tote. It’s so chic and classic.

following…Lemons by Tay. Love the quotes she shares.

shopping…pink home decor. This mohair throw from abc home is so pretty. I love the Peony color. And this striped cotton cushion from H&M Home is cute.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: what’s the best gift for a best friend or a mom?
a: I always say time. Time is the best gift anyone can give. That can mean spending 15 quality minutes on the phone just chatting or it can mean planning and participating in an exciting overnight trip to an incredible spa. Or maybe it’s surprising her with a planned family vacation. Whatever it is, I think your time with Mom is most important.

Money can only buy so much, but the gift of quality time together is priceless. Bring her flowers and ideally a candle too. If you can, make her brunch, or possibly splurge on a fun lunch out, or even bigger, a trip or a spa date. Or simply spend 15 minutes really talking. Time is more valuable than anything else.

q: how far in advance do you plan your content?
a: Our team will be the first to tell you all, nothing I do is planned. Especially in terms of planning content. I do have a very loose content calendar on my Google calendar that I try to go by. I will add completed, tested, and photographed/video recipes to that calendar. That means that those recipes are good to post.

I LOVE to feel really excited about what I share with you all when I share it. For me, that usually means I’m last minute with my planning. I try to plan at least a week in advance and that’s usually how things go. When I travel I’ll have content bulked for that time period. It’s a kind of organized chaos. I’m getting a little better the more I travel though. But if I plan too far out, I’ve found I usually end up switching gears and never sticking to the schedule.

q: do you dry brush every night before showing?
a: Yup! Every night before I jump in the shower. Some people do it in the morning to help circulation but I’m not a morning shower person. I start with my legs and then work my way up my body. It takes no more than 2-5 minutes depending on how much time I have.

q: what’s a go-to easy recipe you love to make?
a: My 20 minute Thai basil beef rolls. I serve them with rice. We’re obsessed with this recipe.

q: how big is your team and who creates the content?
a: We are a very small team and I’m the only one who creates the content. Our amazing team helps with social upkeep, emails, newsletters, scheduling, upkeep of our website, creating graphics, website design, project planning, and sooo much more. I love our little crew, but in terms of content creation, that’s just me.

q: what is your favorite animal?
a: Giraffes 🦒

Elephants 🐘

Monkeys 🙊

Butterflies 🦋

Dolphins 🐬

q: who do you see for your skin in New York?
a: Cynthia Rivas is the best of the best!! She’s really helped to change my skin. She’s also so sweet.

5. How are you? Life updates.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

How is everyone? How is summer?

All in all, I’m so happy and feel so much excitement. But some days can be hard and are filled with frustration, there never seems to be enough time. Or the things I want, take so much time to really build. I have excitement for changes ahead, homemade ice cream, fresh summer peaches, figs at Whole Foods, and sunshine. It makes me happy when people comment on my thick eyebrows, I’ve learned to love them. I’m feeling confident in my skin, but also a little tired. I’m loving spending time with Oslo and Asher, listening to podcasts and learning so much while doing so, baking fruit cobblers, and online shopping – which I am learning is my real “vice” in life.

Your turn! How are you? What is worrying you? What’s your favorite summer dessert? What’s something you bought on Amazon Prime Day? What are you looking forward to? What movies/TV shows are you watching over and over and never getting sick of?

Share with me, please. I love to hear how we’re all doing!

Lastly, I got this idea from a Cup of Joe. Read her post and all the comments. So much summer happiness.

  1. Hi Tieghan and Team.

I’m just sitting in my hotel room in Boston and catching up on my HBH posts. I was struck by something you said about your excitement over all you have in the works and also being a little tired.

I can relate- I have a full time job as an architecture and design specialist for a large company AND a small family winery.

Harvest is just around the corner so I am traveling a ton for work and looking forward to the next “crop”. It’s a lot. I’m tired too!

I think all we can do is be grateful and just keep on keeping on. Not great words of wisdom but, it works for me.

The fact that it is never ending and sometime chaotic is a good thing.

And, if you find yourself in the Santa Barbara rea in October- we could use the help harvesting- just saying.

  2. I can’t find the link to the beautiful black dress you wore to the wedding in Cleveland. PLEASE, can you tell me where it’s from?

  3. Love your Cleveland pictures.

I’m really enjoying flowers and summery recipes this Summer.

Hoping for HBH cookbook no 4 too! Xx

    1. Hi Kelly-Jane,
Thanks so much for reading! Love to hear that you enjoyed the photos, I love sharing them:) Have a great week! xT

  4. Hi T, I heard you mention that cooking and food is your least favorite interest on one of your recent podcast appearances. Do you still plan on selling cookbooks and/or other food related items? It kind of bums me out that you might be selling products you don’t really love or enjoy to your 5 million + community. I love you but it feels like a disingenuous cash grab 🙁 If that’s truly the case, maybe it it’s best if you stick to things like candles. Personally, I’d rather invest in something that you truly believe in as opposed to another cookbook that might not be very well tested.

    1. Hey Christine! I am not sure what you listened to, but I think maybe you miss understood or I miss spoke. I love to cook, i love to be creative with recipes, and I love most importantly cooking for the people around me. It brings me so much joy and happiness. I also love styling, it’s how I create most of my recipes, I visualize them first. Yes, I will be continue to share the recipes myself and my family enjoy every day, it’s what I love to do! I of course have other interest like fashion, but I can love both things! Hope that makes sense!

      1. I believe that you said you enjoy cooking the least on the mimi podcast! As a fan, it’s mildly concerning when your favorite foodie says they don’t enjoy cooking lol. Like, I’d have and existential crisis if I found out that someone like Ina Garten didn’t enjoy their life’s work!

  5. On a podcast you said you’re not into cookbooks. Why write one then? How will you get people to buy something you wouldn’t buy and didn’t want to create?

    1. Taylor, can you please share the link/source of where you heard this? I’d like to check it out myself for context. Thanks!

          1. At 7:39 on the Dream Bigger podcast, Tieghan clearly says that she loves to cook, loves to cook for people, loves to make something that makes people happy.
            ???????

      1. On her podcast with Mimi. She is asked what her least favorite interest is and she says cooking. Direct quote. So weird that she would try lie about it on here when you can easily go listen to the podcast and hear her say it.

  6. Just a quick note to say that HBH has become my first stop when trying to decide what to make. I cook for my husband and myself, plus my bible study has twice a month potluck so I need lots of ideas, lol! Some dishes have become family favorites. Love the photography too. Thank you for continuing to provide us with delicious seasonal recipes.

    1. Hi Patty,
Thank you so much for your kind message:) I appreciate you trying so many recipes and following along! Thanks for being here! xT

  7. Happy Sunday Tiegan! Watching Wimbledon and reading your post – I’d say a perfect morning. Going to make pickled jalapeño peppers from my patio garden today. Happy to hear you are enjoying summer and have travel planned. I am going to place a Nordstrom order this afternoon, thanks for the suggestions.

    1. Hi Linda,
So glad to hear you enjoyed the post today, I didn’t get a chance to watch Wimbledon, but I bet it was nothing short of awesome! Pickled jalapeño peppers sound like the perfect way to use that fresh produce! Have a great week! xT

  8. Fellow midwesterner here- from MI! It’s so refreshing to hear you speak so positively about our region! I know we can often get overlooked by the coasts haha. You have such a large following so it’s really lovely to hear your Midwestern pride, I hope it encourages your followers to travel to this part of the country! The Midwest has so much to offer, no need to re-categorize us as the east coast! NYC, Boston, Portland, etc are very much their own thing and offer very different travel, culinary, and outdoors experiences. I recommend watching Parma Lakshmi’s “Taste the Nation” on Hulu to get a great look at all the different types of cuisine in different parts of the country, it’s super informative and entertaining! It might offer some great inspiration on how different geography and nature can influence cooking- I know you’ve mentioned these types of inspirations in the past!

    1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks a lot for reading and your comment! The midwest is a great place to be especially during the summer IMO:) Thanks for sharing about “Taste the Nation” I’ll have to add that to my watch list! Have a wonderful Monday! xT

  9. Hi Tieghan! I saw recently on insta that you ordered or maybe were gifted some super expensive peaches from LA! They looked gorgeous! Do you live anywhere near Palisade, CO? They are known for their delicious peaches. It would be great to see you support local produce as you begin to post more content outside of the kitchen. I’m sure you know how important it is to support local farmers!!

    1. Hey Emily,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing about Palisade peaches:) I’ve never had them before but I’ll look into seeing if I can get some! Hope you are having a great Monday! xT

      1. You’ve lived in Colorado for 15+ years and have never heard of Palisade peaches? I don’t know how that’s possible. Do you not leave your house? They’re everywhere, including City Market and I’m sure Whole Foods. But they’re best when you buy them directly. School clubs and rotary clubs are always selling them as fundraisers, and they’re at every farmer’s market.

        1. She said she hasn’t had them before. If you are going to nit pick and complain, at least try to get it right.

Keep doing what you love, Tieghan…creating, cooking and sharing!!

        2. Quit hassling her, you blazing creep. Are you dense? She already answered you. You’re creepy as hell – just putting that out there.

        3. Unfortunately, Palisade is 2 hours and 45 mins away (I had to look it up)

We only have one Farmers Market in the county…in Dillon. They are only held on Fridays in the summer. I wish I had more time to get to these but Fridays are a workday. I’ve also been told that there are very few produce booths there 😔

I will look into trying to get some Palisade Peaches though!

  10. Hi Tieghan! I can’t believe I’m first to comment. Thank you as always for your favorite things. I ALWAYS love your hotel recs, that place in Idaho looks amazing. We just came back from Maine where we went on a whale and puffin watch cruise and we saw whales! They put on quite a show.

Last night I made your spicy coconut curry but used tofu instead and it worked great. I didn’t precook the tofu at all, it cooked in the sauce and was delicious. The tricks of adding coconut milk & pickled ginger juice to the rice really kicked it up a notch.

    1. Hi Lynn,
Thank you so much for your kind message and reading each week:) I love that you have been enjoying the content. Wow, whale and puffin watching sounds so amazing, what a great trip to take during the summer! Thanks for trying the coconut curry. Have a great week! xT
