Nine Favorite Things – Oslo, living that island lifestyle

Here’s something crazy to consider we had negative temperatures last night, but tomorrow is the first official day of spring! Time for warmer weather, lighter days, spring showers, and May flowers! I made the trek over to Whole Foods on Friday and picked up every last bunch of white and yellow ranunculus. It’s winter outside, but spring inside and I’m all about it! This is silly, but flowers really can make me so happy at the end of the day, I just love them.

Speaking of spring, did daylight savings time mess with you at all this week? This year, more than ever, I really felt it. It threw me off all week from morning to night. But I’m so thankful for that extra hour of daylight, it’s so nice!

Honestly, not much to report this week. I’m just getting ready for a couple weeks of travel so my days are a lot of cooking, grocery shopping, and cleaning since I’m on my own this week. My family is in the Caribbean enjoying some time away in the sun, which both my mom and dad really needed! My mom especially. I’m sharing some of their photos (above) and below. Not everyone could make this trip, only Creighton…I mean, of course…does he ever miss a family trip? Plus Asher and Oslo sibling-wise, and then my cousin Abby joined in as well.

They started in St.Lucia and are currently in the Grenadines, but heading to Saint Vincent next. Looks and sounds like they are having fun! Oslo sure loves the warmth too!

Let see, hmmm, OH, I know, this is so fun and so amazing to see, but almost an entire year after its release, the HBH Every Day cookbook made it back onto the New York Times best sellers list this week. This brings it up to 34 weeks on the list. Which I’m told breaks some records. Very cool! If you didn’t get a copy, Every Day is, crazy enough, still marked down to $15 on Amazon. And actually, the 1st book, The Half Baked Harvest Cookbook is marked down to $16. And the second book, Super Simple is at $18 (an Amazon editor’s pick too!). So snag up any of those books you may have been thinking about purchasing while they last!

Lastly, I wanted to take a minute to thank you all for the kindness and outpouring of support last week. I only mentioned one thing about feeling a little sad and down over some negative comments, but you all just had the sweetest messages for me. Thank you! I am thrilled you are still enjoying the content I share. It makes me so happy to know!

Ok, that really is all I have for you this week. We’re keeping the post short this week since my mom’s on vacation, but sharing some fun links below! Happy Sunday, and happy Spring!

My favorite style is the TechLoom Wave. I usually get the black, but I have a few of their fun colors too. I also love the TechLoom Breeze style and the TechLoom Bliss. And you can never, ever have too many of the slides + socks. My family lives in these.

everything in my cart (low)…I love the red shade of their midi sheath dress, so pretty. This midi pencil skirt is a great everyday skirt. Oh, but I love this pretty pleated mini skirt too. Fun for day or night.

This asymmetric cut out top is fun. This crewneck is good for everyday looks and it comes in multiple colors too. Last up, these heeled metallic leather slides are super cute and on-trend. A great affordable find. Oh, but they would be cute with this denim skirt.

Oh, and I could live in this casual, cozy relaxed voluminous sweatshirt from & Other Stories.

Ok ok, and for $9 we all need these Cashmere Sport Short Socks. Cute and cozy!

listening to…How To Rid Your Home Of Things That Are Harming You. Learned so much from this episode. Highly recommend listening.

dreaming of going to…Fashion Royalty Christian Louboutin’s new Portuguese Village Hotel. So stunningly pretty and unique. I would love to visit someday and we’ve never been to Portugal. My mom would love it. Could be a fun girls’ trip? You can book a room at the hotel here.

excited to…start doing some juicing! I made celery for the first time 2 days in a row. More updates to come on my “juicing” path soon.

ordered…Malley’s Chocolate. We’re originally from Cleveland and we order Malley’s Easter candies every year. Nothing is better.

shopping…Gjusta goods. Oh my goodness, such cute dishes. Loving these J. Lin-Hsein Kung Whiskey Drinker, but sadly they’re sold out. In stock are these Oaxacan Double Rocks Glass in smoke. They don’t have a ton of products, but they have such cute items. Also, Free People has cute home items too! Sometimes you can find some real gems.

everything in my cart beauty…excited to try these Revitalizing Gold Infused Hydrogel Eye Masks, they have such good reviews! Ordered the OUAI Fine Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. I’m finally trying the brand everyone has been recommending!

And in my cart, the Dr. Dennis Gross Pro Facial Steamer. I have been wanting this for a while. It might be time.

loving…Cymbiotika minerals. The Cymbiotika products are yet another thing I talk about all the time. I’m always receiving questions about Cymbiotika too. These are my daily vitamins and I swear, they are the secret to traveling and staying healthy. I take the Vitamin B12 + BC (boosts energy, supports heart health, and generally is a vitamin most women are lacking). I also take Vitamin D3 + K2 + CoQ10 (supports immune health and strong bones by assisting in the regulation of calcium and cardiovascular health by reducing arterial plaque). And I take the Magnesium L-Threonate too.  I also love their Vitamin C for any time I feel like I may becoming coming down with something, and I always take it with me while traveling.

watching…or not watching? Can someone explain everyone’s obsession with Ted Lasso? Like who is Ted? Why can everyone not stop referencing this show? I feel like I may not be getting this.

wearing…the newest scent from Phlur, Solar Power. I’m just beginning to wear fragrance, and within the last week, this has become a new favorite. For one, the story behind the scent is so empowering. And then, most importantly, the scent! It’s beautiful with notes of Bergamot and Red Mandarin, it’s a warm solar floral accord of Neroli, Jasmine, and Orange Flowers and wrapped in a comforting blend of Musk, Driftwood, and Sea Salt. You can order on their site or through Sephora.

everything in my cart (high)…This Cropped hooded leather-trimmed cotton-twill parka from Loewe is great for spring days and super chic. The Staud Shannon Dress in Ivory. Oh but isn’t this Gucci cutout patent leather-trimmed crepe mini dress so cute? The perfect little back dress.

I adore these Comet clip earrings from St.Laurent. How cool are these Arc Grid Lambskin Mule Sandals from Proenza Schouler. I love them. Then, for bags, this Fendi White Leather Shopper is cute. Also, love this Prada Shoulder Leather Bag. This is so timeless. A great forever bag.

shopping…Ecru. This is a cute home shop. They have especially fun and very unique glassware. Look here for more one-of-a-kind pieces.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: favorite everyday face cleanser?
a: Is Clinical Cleansing Complex.

q: dream designer to do a collaboration with?
a: Oh that’s hard. Fendi has always been a favorite, would love to work with Dior, Oscar de La Renta, and Gucci. I mean could go on. I couldn’t pick just one. They’re all dream collabs.

q: what do you love most about traveling?
a: The change of pace, the people, the clothes, the energy in the city, the food, and getting to attend things I’d never have guessed I’d be invited to. I now love spending time traveling. Oh, and I love to stay in a nice hotel. I’m a complete hotel snob.

q: what are your wardrobe staples?
a: Jeans of course, a good white tee, I love a classic cashmere sweater, a suit look that makes you feel super confident. A classic black pump. A non-trendy knee-high boot that will never go out of style, statement earrings, and maybe a go-to bag that instantly makes your outfit look put together. I’d listen to Livv Perez’s recent podcast episode where she talks about her 10 wardrobe staples.

q: what is your everyday style?
a: Neutrals with a pop of color are more my vibe.

q: do you want to get married and do you feel pressure to do so?
a: Yeah sure but for some reason, I feel like “Mr. Right” will come into my life when I need him too. It’s not something worth stressing over. You have to let life happen. Right now I am hyper-focused on work and very happy working to build HBH (: when the time is right, it’s right. That’s everything in life. You can and should work hard towards something you want, but you can’t force it. But yea, of course, I feel a little pressure, especially being on social…I get this question all the time.

q: why not have a separate fashion Instagram account?
a: Because that’s not what I’m about. Maybe someday I’ll have separate accounts, but right now the idea is that this account is meant for sharing everything. I keep my in-feed content to mostly food sprinkled with a few lifestyle posts whenever I have them. Stories is different. On stories, I want to share everything – food and life. These posts go away in 24 hours. If you’re here for the food, click through the other stuff, it’s pretty simple. And I always make sure to share a mix of food and life. Most people seem to really enjoy the mix.

q: thoughts on the KitchenAid glass bowl?
a: It’s not my favorite. The only reason I use mine so much is that it’s good for filming. It allows you all to see inside and see what I’m doing within the bowl. If it wasn’t for video purposes, I honestly wouldn’t use it. It’s pretty heavy and chips easily. This is the 3rd one I’ve owned.

5. What made you smile this week?

Unexpected nice people! Look, it’s not every day that someone goes out of their way to help you. Sometimes people surprise you though, and it can be on the days you need it most! Friday was a long day and I was feeling crazy anxious for reasons I just could not pinpoint. I had been waiting for a package all day that required a signature. They don’t always deliver to me. Instead, they head up to my parent’s home, so I have to keep an eye out.

The very kind UPS driver read the note on the door to come down to the studio. I wasn’t sure he read the note, so I ran out onto the road to meet him. He immediately said, “don’t worry I was coming to you!”. In the end, he ended up helping me with multiple packages, taking them into the studio, and genuinely just being super kind.

I had a similar encounter at Whole Foods earlier that evening. Let me just say, even though these were not big items, they really put a smile on my face and helped me out in a big way.

It just goes to show you that you never know how you can affect another’s day, good or bad.

Anyway, would love to hear what made you SMILE big this week. It can be anything. Even just some flowers and a candle burning away!

  1. Hi Tieghan! When I saw the first picture of Oslo, I laughed out loud. He’s adorable! You so lucky to have a little brother like him. I’ve been making lots of your spring recipes and they’re all so delicious! Your chocolate chip muffins are the BEST. We also have some unseasonably cold days here in Texas; we’re enjoying them as long as we can! I have a question. What are a few favorite appetizers for spring? My sister’s bday is in a week, and I’m trying to find a few appetizers to make, besides the cake. Thanks! Abigail

  2. You are doing just fine……don’t let the negative comments affect you. Try not to give others that much power over you.

  3. Hi Tieghan:

I love Nine Favorite Things. I always take away something useful or fun or beautiful or all of the above. Regarding negative comments, I have a public-facing job and read a lot of negative stuff about myself. If I read something (on accident because I don’t intentionally look for stuff about myself) it feels like they’re talking about someone else, that’s how far from the real “me” the comments are. Regarding addressing negative comments, I would discourage this because it usually degrades into a back-and-forth that makes it worse. I think negative people feed off negative energy and the best way to deal with it is not to give it any MORE energy than it already has. My two-cents. Keep doing what you’re doing . You have so many good people in your corner!

    1. Hey Lisa,
Thanks so much for reading and your thoughtful message! I am so glad you love these posts and are able to find new things each week. I appreciate you sharing your advice, this is super helpful! Hope you are having a great week! xx

  4. Just a friendly heads up – I think your favorite questions didn’t get published, looks like these are from a previous NFT post. It happens, we’re all busy – just wanted to make you aware! Thanks for all the yummy recipes!

  5. I look forward to your Nine Favourite Things every Sunday morning. I love the mix of recipes, fashion, health, family, and the many links to read. Keep doing exactly what you have been doing. I’ll never understand why some take issue with portions of the blog post. Scroll on people!!!
I need to make those Garlic Parmesan fries. Sounds so yummy…but I just started a diet. Hmmm

    1. Hi Joanna,
Happy Monday and thanks so much for reading each week! I love to hear that you enjoy the variety of content:) Let me know if you give the fries a try, they are pretty yummy! xx

  6. I made the Iced Lemon Loaf this week and it was a family hit! Thank you for all the great recipes! And…. Oh my gosh, yes, you need to watch Ted Lasso! I think you’d be hooked after a few episodes. It’s so fun to watch Ted’s upbeat personality melt all the meanness around. It certainly has twists and turns and romance too – one of our favorites!

    1. Hey Glenda,
Thanks so much for trying the lemon loaf, so glad to hear it was enjoyed!! Thanks for sharing about Ted Lasso, I’ll have to add that to my list! Happy Monday! xx

  7. I have started every day of the past 5 years with a green juice! (Mine is: tons of celery, lemon, cucumber, cilantro, greens, apple) Your body will love you and thank you. 🙂 Made your white chicken chili again last night, fantastic! Great family pics, thanks for sharing.

    1. Hey there,
Wow, that’s amazing!! I’ll have to try adding the cilantro, great idea for some flavor blast! Thanks for trying the chili:) Have a great week! xT

  8. Does elevation have an effect on your recipes? I live at about 600 feet so quite a difference from where you are in Colorado. Thank you so much for all of the recipes. I enjoy your ‘Nine Favorite Things’.

    1. Hey Patti,
You should be just fine to follow my recipes as written:) In general, I don’t ever adjust recipes for the altitude. I always cook/bake as if I was at sea level. When baking, I always under-bake by a few minutes and I find this “fixes” most issues that can be caused from the altitude. I hope this helps! xT

  9. Love reading your Nine Favorite Things every Sunday! Love your adorable family and your recipes are amazing! Just got your Every Day cook book yesterday and I love everything in it. Planning on trying a new recipe or two every week!

    1. Hey Merle,
Thanks so much for reading each week, I really appreciate it! I hope you love the cookbook:) Happy Monday! xT

  10. Hi Tieghan, just fyi, I just tried the apl code and it didn’t work. I just reread the blog and it says Saturday am-Sunday am only 🙁

  11. Love the pics of your family on vacation – always do! Your parents are so adorable & look incredibly fit. Do they do any specific workouts? (I am close to their age! 😉)

    1. Awe, thanks so much Diane!! They do a lot of hiking and my dad goes to the gym to lift weights, not sure exactly what he does lol. My mom also does planks everyday:) Hope you’re having a great Sunday!! xx

  12. Really would love to see you acknowledge the “negative comments” you mentioned and show your followers how you’ve learned and grown from the experience.

    1. Wait, what? She did acknowledge them. What’s with the quotes around negative comments? And “Show your followers how you’ve learned and grown”? Are you for real? What are you, her teacher or therapist? What a weird and pretty demanding comment.
