Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com @hbharvest

Welcome to yet another Sunday Favorite’s post. The very first of March to be exact! Speaking of which, is anyone else excited that March is here? If March is here that means spring is on its way, and for me, that means flowers! I think this year more than ever I am obsessed with flowers. If they were not so expensive, I’d be buying a new bouquet every week for my desk…which I may or may not be doing anyway. My excuse is that I use the flowers for photoshoots, so technically, they’re for “work”, right…right.

I love them so much, but man, why do they have to be so pricey? My current favorites are peonies and ranunculus, but I also love the oh so simple chamomile! What are your favorites?

Moving along, this past week was filled with a lot of cooking, and with that came some great recipes and also some not so great recipes. I had a few more recipes fails this week than I’d like, but that’s what happens when I try to cook too much. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Good news is, I made some fresh spring pasta that’s easy enough for any night of the week, plus a cake that I’m so excited to share with you guys.

Question: Since I had a few recipes that did not work this week, I’d love to know if there’s anything you guys would be interested in seeing on the blog this month. I always love your suggestions and feedback, so let me know in the comments!

PS. getting requests for A Day In The Life type of post. Is this really something you guys might like to see?!

Coming up this week on HBH we have a fun post involving one of my favorite brands, The Little Market. We also have some delicious warming soup, a new take on a cheesy sandwich, that spring pasta, and that cake that I finally perfected. Also keep an eye out for an update on the studio barn. Pretty excited about it. For those of you planning out your weekday meals today, check out my ideas below, it’s number nine on my Favorites list. Hope you all have a great Sunday!

Sheet Pan Poblano Chicken Fajitas…nothing easier and nothing better.

6. How to deal with failure and use it to your Advantage.

I am such a huge believer in using failure to learn and empower yourself to do better. I loved this story on how to deal with failure and use it to your advantage. One of my favorite quotes from the piece is, “The universe opens doors you never expected.” Take chances, fall flat on your face, learn from it, and eventually you will find success. Don’t view failures as a bad thing, view them as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Loved this article. You should read it too.

PS. I recently started to get into listening to podcasts while I cook and shoot, and I’m loving the inspiring background noise while I work. Right now I’m just finding random podcasts via people I follow on Instagram, so I don’t have any that I tune into regularly. Any podcast suggestions for me?

  1. Hey Tieghan,
I’m sorry about your recipe slump. Maybe more breakfast pastries or French style desserts? Are you going to NY this month? Maybe you can find some inspiration there? Also, I like your flowers. 🙂
And I recommend Oprahs podcast (super soul conversations) or the Ted podcasts. I love Oprah and her podcasts make me smile. 🙂 Do you listen to audio books? If so, do you have any recommendations?
I hope you’re able to reach your goals this month and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s post!

  2. I don’t ever comment on blogs but I love your cookbook and so have been referring to your website a lot. In fact, 4 of my friends and I have started a nerdy Meal Prep Club, where we prep 3 meals every Tuesday and we use your recipes a lot. So let’s see more make ahead meals please! Priceless for moms with little kids.

As for podcasts, you have to listen to How I Built This, esp since you’re an entrepreneur. It’s super inspiring! Also love Hidden Brain and Serial (first series).

    1. +1 for the “How I Built This” podcast. I think you’ll find it extremely motivating and inspiring. So many stories of determination and learning from failures — just like you mentioned in your post!

  3. Definitely planning to make that yummy looking harissa chicken! (and those waffles as soon as I get a waffle maker!)

I’d love to see recipes using white fish. Most of the ones I’ve found are a bit on the boring side and I’m sure yours would be anything but! I’ve made the sesame crusted tilapia from your cookbook and it’s delicious!

  4. Since you’re taking suggestions– I would love to see another delicious risotto recipe! I LOVE your spring mint and pea risotto in the cookbook and have already made it many times. I have another risotto that I eat often than is a butternut squash and sage risotto with a 1/4 cup white wine to deglaze. Risotto is such a comfort food for me and I’d love another spring flavor! Also, I’ve thought of trying to make a strawberry risotto before but not sure how– with basil? Lastly, a Food52 article convinced me to roast my sugar and it worked! I would love a angel food cake recipe using roasted sugar or anything else you can think of– even ice cream? Thanks!

  5. I learned how to make ceviche while living in Bogota, Colombia. It’s a crowd pleaser at this house. Secret is good fish!

  6. A friend gifted me some real from Italy canned tomatoes and I need a good sauce recipe for them. Or inspiration to cook something else…husband wants chicken Parmesan. Thanks!

  7. Gosh, I’m so glad it’s spring (although the random snow here in the UK is definitely not making me feel spring-like). I can’t wait for daffodils to be everywhere though! Podcast-wise, my go to is “Rex Factor”, which if you’re into history at all, is brilliant. It reviews all of the kings and queens of England/Great Britain, and is absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend it!

  8. My favorite podcast that I recommend is The History Chicks – stories of badass historical women. I also love Lore and The Ringer’s Binge Mode, which dives deep into facets of pop culture.

  9. podcast love—armchair expert with dax shepard, WTF with marc maron, ali on the run podcast, forever35, oprah supersoul conversations, the popcast, happier with gretchen rubin, ID10T with chris hardwick (formerly known as, nerdist)… i could go on!

  10. Always so inspiring! Thank you!

I would love to see some easy-peasy take-to-work lunches, that are still flavorful & exciting? I’m in a lunch rut.

  11. I love listening to back issues of Good Job Brain! It’s an offbeat trivia podcast, and gets better as the show continues.

  12. So jealous you are going to NYC!!! My favorite place in the whole world!! Lol, “travel to NYC” should be added to the list on how to cheer up your friend ( or wife.. hint, hint to husband 🙂
Ever since you got back from Olympics, i keep waiting for Inspirational Korean Food, but non is coming. What happened? i did not see any posting on Korean food that you ate there. You did not eat anything worth mentioning? Are any recipes coming?
So excited about your A Day In Life Post, you should do them more often 🙂 Of course, Barn Progress is very interesting. Also, how are your goats? Are you milking them? I remember all your chickens got killed last year. Are you getting any more? Why don’t you grow your own flowers to eat, do you have your own little garden? I understand you probably too busy for all of those.. but thought i still ask. And i LOOVE tulips.. especially starting in January when i get sick of winter, i earn for those Tulips!!

    1. Hi Nikki! Thank you so much, I am really glad you like my lifestyle posts. The goats are doing pretty well, but still nervous about the bobcat! My dad usually does the milking when we are all around! I have a greenhouse for some plants, but I do not grow my own edible flowers! I hope you have a great week!

  13. My favorite flowers: red roses and daffodils.

Recipe requests: Any Blondie recipes or anything with white chocolate.
