Celebrating Valentine’s Day with this festive Rose and Ginger Paloma.

Happy Valentine’s Day!! It’s so weird because as I write this, it is Valentine’s Day here in South Korea. But…I am also flying home today, and even though it’s a sixteen hour plus travel day, it will still be Valentine’s Day when I arrive home in the US. South Korea is a day ahead of the US, so while I lost a day traveling here, I will gain that day back while traveling home.

Not going to lie, I am bumming pretty hard to be leaving some of my family behind here in Korea, but I have to get back home and do things like, you know, that thing called work. Some of my family is traveling home with me today, while my parents and a few siblings are staying in Korea for Big Air…which happens on the twenty-first in Korea, but on the 20th in the US. Red will be competing, and I would have loved to stay and watch, but three weeks away from work was a little too hard to do, so I will be heading home today.

I’m sure it will be nice to be home, but leaving the family, especially after the experience we all just had, is pretty hard.

I am excited to hike again, and to get back in the swing of normalcy. It was so cold the entire time we’ve been here that standing outside in the cold for hours watching snowboarding meant that hiking was totally not happening.

Anyway, I know I normally post my cocktails on Saturdays, but this just seemed like the perfect recipe for today. It’s easy enough for you guys to make tonight as your V-day cocktail, but also good enough to make anytime of the year.

It’s pretty obvious that the Paloma is up there as one of my favorite drinks. I have not one, but two Paloma recipes on HBH. This Strawberry Chamomile Paloma and this Pomegranate Paloma. Both are some of the most popular cocktails on the site …and with my family, who have lately been gaining a tad too much notoriety in regards to their drinking!

Today’s Paloma is a little simpler, but still delicious, and perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Plus, I really just wanted an excuse to put roses in my drink.

So here’s the deal. Like any Paloma recipe, this one is easy. It’s a simple mix of fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, and tequila. What makes the drink special however is the addition of a little rose water and a good splash of gingerbeer…my all time favorite drink topper.

The rose water adds a subtle flora flavor that pairs really nicely with the sweet citrus from the grapefruit juice. The gingerbeer adds a touch of sweetness to the cocktail, along with some nice fizz action. Put it all together and you have the perfect, light pink, sweet, and fizzy cocktail for your Valentine’s Day…or any other day.

If you’re new to rose water, it’s a really great ingredient to have in your pantry and can be used in a lot of middle eastern inspired dishes. It’s really healthy to drink, and great to incorporate into our diets for healthier skin. I normally just buy mine from Amazon, but my local Whole Foods sells it as well.

Seeing as I am flying home today, and probably in the air as your read this, I don’t have any plans for my Valentine’s Day, but I’m cool with that because after the last seven days a little chill time is sounding pretty awesome.

Maybe I’ll have a chance to snack on some chocolate before hitting my pillow tonight, but come Friday, I’m sure I’ll be mixing up one of these fun cocktails for someone.

Trust me, you guys need to give this one a try. It’s refreshing, light, and…come on, you know all the roses alone make you want to mix this drink up.

It’s yummy, cute and fun!

    Happy Valentine’s Day! (x2) ❤️
I hope your flight back went well and you’re able to rest, relax for a bit, and enjoy your walks again. I’m sorry you had to head back early. 🙁 At least you have some of your family heading back with you, and maybe this will give you some quiet time to reflect on your trip.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s post and hearing how everything went.
    Sleep well and stay warm!

  5. Great post, Tieghan! And the drink looks fabulous.
I’ve been following Red and your family’s fun from here in Germany and am so thrilled for all of you. I also loved seeing your affection for him on an interview. It’s obvious you all love each other very much.
My siblings and parents are in the US, and I don’t get to see them often. We are also very close, so I REALLY empathize with you. At least you all get to live close to each other, so you’ll be together again before you know it.
I’ve been laughing about the alcohol notoriety because I thought I remembered you posting at some point that you actually don’t drink any alcohol… did I remember that wrong, or is it all the Gerards except for you and Asher? 😉
The Gerards seem like a terrific family, and it’s wonderful that you stick together during challenges, support each other for success, and shotgun together, when it’s time to party!

    1. Thank you so much Betti! I am so glad you like this and have been watching Red! I do not drink any alcohol, but my brothers of age do! Of course they are responsible though! Thank you!
