Nine Favorite Things

Wow, the first Sunday of November (did you remember to turn your clocks back)! Crazy that we only have a few weeks left in 2022. I was in New York this week. They’ve officially moved on from all things pumpkin spice to all things peppermint with plenty of holiday music.

Yes, the holidays have arrived! Oddly the city was having crazy unseasonably warm weather. I think it hit 70 on Friday. It may not have felt like November, but it looked like it. The leaves were so pretty and in peak season! But the city was moving on and already decorating for Christmas! They’re ready.

It was a quick trip, but so great. I stayed at the cutest little hotel, Fouquet’s New York in a Tribeca. I was in the city with Amazon previewing their holiday gift guide, which is honestly so good. The space was decked out in holiday decorations, I loved it. I also loved seeing how supportive they are of small businesses. Definitely check out the Amazon holiday gift guide. And here’s the one specific to small businesses

I just arrived back home to cold and snowy weather. Apparently, it’s been snowing for the last couple of days. And it’s still snowing – fall to winter in one day!

On the family front, Asher, Oslo, mom, and dad have been in Ohio the last few days. They flew to Cleveland to see family and celebrate Halloween with them. Asher had never experienced door-to-door trick-or-treating. They just got back too and it sounds like Halloween was a hit. A nice warm night with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins on my mom’s side. They all had a great time!

I’m looking forward to being home for a couple of weeks! Thanksgiving will soon be here!

That’s all I have for today! Enjoy another Sunday Favorites and happy November!

happy Halloween from Asher and Oslo

1. Things I’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

burning…my Snif x HBH pumpkin smash candle. The restocked candles are shipping this week! If you want them in time for Thanksgiving, definitely pre-order them now. Also, Snif’s new Christmas candle, lost Claus just launched I cannot wait to start burning this one soon. And one of my favorite Snif candle scents, old saint wick is on Oprah’s favorite things for 2022. Check out the Snif holiday collection here. MY FAVS.

everything in my cart (low)…From Zara, these leather pants are everywhere right now. I would pair them with a heeled black boot or black pump. Also, this leather puffer is definitely on my shopping list too. I’m loving this knit dress, it would be cute for Thanksgiving. Same with this cozy cable knit sweater. I would wear it with these tailored wide leg pants from Abercrombie.

For bags right now, I’m loving totes. This croc tote would be great for travel. And then, I came across this Dagne Dover tote that fits your 16-inch computers too.

How cozy and perfect are these sweatpants from Everlane? Really nice for fall/winter. I really love this cozy turtleneck too. This Free People jacket is cute and cozy too. Oh, and these UGG slippers would be great for around the house. Speaking of UGG, Shopbop is now carrying the UGG platform boots.

listening to…Charli D’Amelio and Heidi D’Amelio on The Skinny Confidential podcast. I’m only halfway through, but loving the honest conversation.

watching…Hailey Beiber’s makeup routine for date night. I love these videos. I can’t do makeup, so I love trying to learn from people whose everyday makeup I enjoy. Love how simple this look is. You can find all the products she uses here.

gifting…from the Amazon gift guide. So many incredible finds for family and friends.

shopping…the Sephora holiday savings event. So many of my favorite products are included.

dreaming of going to…Boath House, Scotland’s buzziest and most beautiful new hotel. The Garden reminds me of the Secret Garden, so pretty.

watching…Lindsay Lohan’s new Christmas movie on Netflix, Falling for Christmas! It’s out on Thursday and I gotta admit, I’m pretty excited. I love a cheesy holiday movie and I love that Lindsay is back to acting. Fun fact? I actually saw her while at dinner this week in New York.

everything in my cart (high)…all the designers are releasing holiday looks! This Staud pencil skirt could be worn in so many ways. Or do something a little dressier and try this black sequins dress.

So I love this Chloe cashmere sweater, but honestly, this sweater from H&M looks just as nice. Since we are talking cozy, this Lunya chunky wool robe would make such a nice gift for pretty much anyone. And a cashmere sweater dress is a must for this season.

For bags, this Saint Laurent suede shoulder bag is on my Christmas list. And I love this Saint Laurent maxi skirt. Pair it with a black sweater and blazer.

Lastly, the one thing I think everyone should splurge on is a pair of cashmere socks. So warm and cozy.

drinking…espresso martinis. I am so into them right now. I want to make both my vanilla espresso martini and chai espresso martini very soon!

ordered…these velvet pumpkins from Food52 for my Thanksgiving table this year. I think I’m going to do a pumpkin theme! I got this vintage glass truck ornament set there too, I think they’re so cute!

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: since you often buy new clothes, how do you manage your closet and not feel cluttered?
a: Honestly, Asher has been a huge help with this lately. She’s been going through my closet once a month or so and pulling pieces I haven’t worn. She sets them aside for Goodwill or for herself 😂 she loves it. I definitely recommend doing regular “edits” of your closet a few times a year to help keep things organized.

q: your ideal date night?
a: I’m the most basic and simple when it comes to this. The lower key, the better. Dinner and a movie back home are ideal. Just a super chill night, nothing fancy and I’m happy.

q: what comforts you when you are feeling down?
a: Lighting a candle and calling my mom.

q: when you are in big cities like NYC, do you start to crave the quiet and beauty of home?
a: Not usually. Only if I’m gone longer than 2/3 weeks. I’m loving traveling and getting away from home. It’s refreshing and invigorating for me.

q: can you also share non-alcoholic mocktails of your holiday drinks?
a: With this year’s holiday Cocktail Saturday, I’m including how to make each drink a mocktail as well. It will be in the notes section of each recipe (:

q: feeling blue, what’s your best pick-me-up?
a: I’m so sorry! When I’m down, I burn my favorite candle, wrap myself in a blanket and call my mom. If you can’t call mom, maybe a good friend?

– watch your favorite movie/tv show that always makes you happy.
– make a list of everything GOOD in your life. Look at the positives, don’t dwell on the negative
– I also love to search for quotes on Pinterest. They can be really uplifting!
– take a walk to get your favorite coffee/tea. Getting outside ALWAYS helps!

q: have you tried a butter board (from the TikTok trend)?
a: So a lot of people are asking me to make one. I’ve seen it, but I’m questioning it big time. I’m sure it’s great, but do we need a recipe for a butter board? I’m also not one to jump on food trends. If everyone else is already making it and sharing it, I probably don’t need to. That’s kind of my thought process 🤷🏻‍♀️

q: pet peeves?

– white plastic of any kind really grosses me out
– chipped, painted nails. It’s why I just can’t have any kind of polish on my nails. It drives me insane when a nail chips

q: if you were a spice, which one would you be?
a: Cinnamon.

q: if you could only have 3 makeup items, what would they be?
a: eyelash curler, brow pencil/gel, and lip moisturizer, Rhode is my favorite. If I get one more, since technically an eyelash curler is a tool, I’d pick blush.

5. The quickest trip to New York.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

Alright, my quick trip to New York! I love coming into the city, even for a quick trip.

As mentioned, I stayed at possibly one of the cutest hotels in the city, Fouquet’s New York. This was my first time staying downtown in the Tribeca neighborhood. When I come to the city, I often love to stay somewhere new. Not always but for a quick trip, it can be a nice way to see a new part of the city.

I was so excited. Fouquet’s is more of a boutique-style hotel with a location in Paris that’s rather famous. The New York location has only been open for a couple of months. It is gorgeous! You feel like you’re in Paris with New York surrounding you. The hotel alone is so chic. Parisian vibes with a touch of New York throughout the hotel (just look at the detailing on the bathroom wallpaper). It’s a great spot for dinner or drinks!

legs up the wall, every night, especially after flying

But my room! It was perfection. I had a corner suite, which has some of the prettiest views of the cobblestone streets and trees full of autumn leaves.

The decor is very French, I loved it so much and if you enjoy staying downtown but away from a lot of the craziness, the location is perfect. It feels very cozy.

holiday displays are going up!

Let’s see, aside from the hotel, I had a fun dinner at The Nines. I’ve been wanting to go here since it opened. It’s such a special, chic New York spot with a really nice vibe. I think people come for the drinks, but honestly, the food was great too. We ordered so much! Tuna Tartare, Hamachi, Smoked Salmon, Endive, Gnudi (thought this was especially good, it’s handmade pasta with truffles), and then the baked potato with caviar. Oh, and the special was the lobster club, so we got that too!

It’s a really fun, vibey spot in the city. Plus I love getting to dress up!

Aside from all that, this was a quick in-and-out trip. I’ll be back sooner than you think!

We’ve added a new feature to all of our recipes to make them shoppable at Target. There’s a new shop ingredients button located inside the recipe card. Now it’s easier than ever to gather all the ingredients you’ll need for multiple recipes in one cart. You can add or remove items, swap ingredients, and even change the recipe’s servings size. Simply choose your preferred Target location, checkout, and pick up your order. We’ve even created a page with all the steps you’ll need to get your ingredients to your door.

  1. My fella and I both love blue cheese so I had to make your grandma’s three ingredient blue cheese bites from one of your books (I have all of them) and OMG soooo good – even better with some Trader Joes fig spread served with them! Thank you for sharing this one!

  2. Smells like another RedditPox outbreak. Instead of obsessing about typos, they are back on the weight thing again. Seriously?

The crazy train just keeps on picking up steam!

That said, great post, and congratulations on your amazing success and continued hard work. We all really appreciate you, and your NFT are the best things about my Sunday.

    1. Pro-ana/thinspo? I don’t think anybody has used those ridiculous terms since 1990’s era Tumblr.

Please stop with the fake drama.

  3. It’s not polite to make comments (direct or implied, good or bad) about someone’s weight. Something like 75% of Americans are overweight or obese, so those who are not are often perceived as being “too thin,” just because it’s not what society is used to seeing anymore. Look at photos or movies from several decades ago, and you’ll see the difference between the general population back then versus today.

    1. Lol, the double standards in your comments. Ew. You should listen to your own advice babe.
Tiggan’s weight is not “normal”, nor the previous or current “standard”. But you’re obviously very fat phobic and not afraid to admit it, that’s a flex too I guess.
The number of comments from disordered/thinspo people increases with the increase in thinspo content on the blog.

      1. And you’re obviously a meddling, gossiping waste of life with nothing better to do than spread your misery around where it’s not wanted.
        Pathetic.

      2. Nobody here is disordered or – thinspo? (WTF does that even mean?) Just sick and tired of stupid trolls disrupting an otherwise pleasant website where most of us are here to share recipes and a general love of home cooking. You are just a rude pig who doesn’t understand that your toxicity is not wanted here.

Maybe go find another website to bitch on? Thanks!

      3. Ana:

You’re obviously very fat…and not afraid to admit it. Your pants are flexing to the very widespread boundaries of their endurance.

That’s fine, you do you babe. But take it elsewhere.

    2. Hi Brenna,

Yes! This is exactly right. I’m 54, and I never saw an obese person in my life until I was in my 30s, and it was rare, even then. Maybe 1 in 100.

    3. She has shared photos of her pants and jeans when they aren’t being worn and you can see that she has to buy the smallest size the brands make but they are still humongous on her. That isn’t natural or healthy that she is too small for adult sized jeans.

      1. Not only are you just making things up, you’re flat out wrong. “Adult sized jeans”? What is “adult sized”? News flash, adults come in a multitude of sizes. Her size is fine, but that seems to upset a lot of jealous women who aren’t happy with their own size. Sorry about your issues.

      2. So do I. It’s called being naturally slim. I’m an adult, over 40, with three kids, and I have always been a size 0, or I buy from the juniors section. My sister is the same. No health issues whatsoever. Stop attacking others and try to better yourself instead.

      3. All these women tearing down another woman for being slim. Sad. Ladies, start standing up for your own, or you might find yourself standing alone someday, when you really need a friend the most – thanks to karma.

    1. She’s mentioned him many times on her Instagram. He’s the founder of snif (candle company she did the collab with). The other guy in the photos is his husband.

  4. Another great Sunday read. I visited a pumpkin patch with friends last weekend, it was 20C and my friends and I were all in short sleeves and enjoying the sunshine, however the leaves on the trees had autumnal colours, it was weird. Since then though we now seem to be getting a LOT of rain.
Great photos as always, love the photos of the hotel in NYC, it does look pretty and apologies but have to ask who is the cute guy on your arm? Happy that you had a good trip.
I bet you are now looking forward to your trip to Europe at the end of the month.
I know that you have Thanksgiving over there first, however for me I am not getting ready to bake Christmas cakes and making sugar flowers for the cakes, I love making Christmas cakes and decorating them.
Have a great week and would love to see some snowy pictures maybe next week?

  5. My favorite Sunday morning treat is reading Nine Favorite Things. It’s like getting a new fancy magazine every week! Thank you for that.
I never wanted to be this person, but those jeans you are wearing with your moto jacket are so cute. Have you mentioned where we could find them?
Thank you again for the beautiful work you share with us!

  6. That hotel in Scotland? OMG! Scotland is by far and away my favorite place on the planet. Speaking of Europe? What is the status of the trip so many of us are hoping you will be taking the end of the month? I’ve spent a fair amount of time in NYC, all times of year. Christmas is magical. I do hope you get back when the city id completely decked out. If you can, take in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. It is beyond spectacular!

  7. I love your cookbook, recipes, and look forward to yoir weekly newsletter. Granted I can not afford things, but do enjoy looking. But in our house we don’t eat chicken. I find myself figuring out ways to substitute for all the chicken. Can you create and share more recipes for those of us that may not eat certain meats? Thank you

    1. I don’t eat chicken either. I always substitute pork of some kind, especially in the meatball recipes. All Helen sausage has a comparable pork option. I’ve also swapped boneless pork chops for chicken in recipes from here.

    1. Same question! He keeps showing up with no explanation or introduction so I don’t feel it’s rude to ask after so many times

    1. Tieghan is naturally slender. Look at her mom! The fact that you took time out of your day to post that link says a lot about YOU. Instead of insulting her, how about you admire how someone so young has achieved so much? And respect how loving and close her family seems to be?

      1. You didn’t get “cancelled” you silly, melodramatic twat. You got put in check for being an abusive jerk. Rightly so.

Get used to it, or maybe get a new hobby.

        1. Trying to help somebody by highlighting their mental health is hardly abusive. I am a mental health counselor and am trained to recognize eating disorders. Theres nothing melodramatic about it. I assume you are a young person (under 40) who has never dealt with the tragedy of eating disorders and I can be sure you have no daughters.

          1. You are assuming very, very wrong, and you must be incredibly arrogant to assume anything about me.

Nobody cares about what you claim your credentials are. A trained mental health counselor with daughters would never support the public harassment of a young woman online because of her weight. A trained mental health counselor would be doing his or her job in the privacy of a clinic or hospital, respecting patients’ rights to bodily autonomy, freedom from harassment, scrutiny and degradation. If you were a real counselor, you would not be whining in the comments section of a recipe blog for being “cancelled” for pointing out your uninformed opinion about someone you don’t even know.

If you were trained to recognize ANY disorder, you would know that you cannot possibly make a diagnosis from looking at a picture of a stranger you have never met or spoken to online. A real counselor would be very well aware that you don’t “help” anyone by criticizing them on the internet. That would be wholly irresponsible, and completely unacceptable. But you’re lying about your credentials, so there’s no need to really even worry about that.

But if by some strange reason you actually slipped through the cracks and got yourself certified as anything other than a janitor at McDonalds, then please share your real name and place of employment, and we’ll be sure to let your employer know that your idea of “help” is humiliating a person online.

Every word you type, you out yourself a little bit more. Maybe quit while you can, and go find something else to do. 😉

          2. “Trying to help somebody by highlighting their mental health”… highlighting?! Really?

That sentence says it all. Yes, you are lying, and yes, you are abusive. No mental health counselor worth the paper their alleged degree is printed on would ever think “highlighting” someone’s metal health in a public forum is helping.

You actually ARE that transparent, aren’t you.

          3. If you are really a counselor, (which I highly doubt) you need to lose your license to practice, immediately.

    2. Did it make you feel superior to post something so stupid? Congratulations on being such a miserable excuse for a human being. 👍🏻

      1. Lol how is posting resources for people who maybe struggling stupid and miserable? Resources are generally viewed as a positive thing whether they are needed or not. If they aren’t needed by anyone here, just ignore it and move on with your day. Thanks for the wonderful feedback though, I’ll be sure to take it to <3!!

        1. Great, then you won’t be back? AWESOME.

Seriously though, cut the sh!t. “Posting resources, trying to help”. That’s crap and you know it.

1.) A stranger’s weight is none of your business.

2.) You don’t give a damn about a person you don’t know. Nobody is fooled by this.

3.) People who “genuinely care” reach out in a PRIVATE manner.

You are just publicly slamming her, because yes, you are disgusting. There is no way your fake “concern” could ever be taken seriously by anyone. You have the manipulation skills of a three year old. Not at all convincing.

          Bye, Felicia.

        2. Yes, because a highly successful person with a thriving business and a huge supportive family really needs the “support” of a random busybody on the internet.

Show yourself out, “Erin”. Take that “Ana” thing with you. 😒

        3. I agree with you Erin. There are a lot of young girls on here who have no idea whatsoever what it is like to deal with an eating disordered family member and have no daughters of their own.

          1. And there are a lot of haters on here pretending to be counselors, mothers, and nutrition experts, who have no idea whatsoever what a genuine person, really concerned about another person’s well being actually looks like.

I’ll give you a hint, though. If the concern were real, you would never see it here. Because by posting these personal criticisms on a public blog, your only motivation is harassment.

AnaLSErinRamina, leave. Nobody is buying it.

          2. You agree with Erin? What did she actually SAY, besides passive-aggressively posting a link?

I’m pretty sure you have no idea what you’re talking about either, because if you had genuine experience of dealing with a family member who needs help, you would understand the importance of respecting that person’s dignity and privacy.

        4. Did you actually just start a sentence with “Lol” and expect to be taken seriously? Everything you said after “Lol” is invalid. So, that’s every word after the first gibberish you hammered out.

I really don’t think 10 year olds should have free and unrestricted internet access.

          1. Ana and Erin (and likely LS) are all the same person. The ubiquitous use of “lol” as a form of communication is a dead giveaway. Nobody with an IQ even in the double digits (never mind triple) would do that. This is just a dumb kid with an unhealthy obsession with the weight and appearance of online influencers.

Another sad side effect of a lazy society with spoiled kids who don’t have a clue what real struggle or hard work is. They need to get away from the computer and get an actual job or something worthwhile in their lives.

        5. Erin: “Lol how is posting resources for people who maybe struggling stupid and miserable?”

          And:

Also Erin: “Lol wow. Literally nothing in my comment was rude or worthy of calling someone an ‘unoriginal weak bastard’.

          https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/tortellini-french-onion-soup/

Is that you again, artificial Marcie? You sure have the same juvenile writing style and deflective victim mentality.

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

    3. Stop this nonsense. This is a naturally thin person from a very obviously naturally thin and athletic family. She works long hours, travels everywhere, and is very young to boot.

When I was 28 (and naturally pretty slim/medium build,) I was a full time student, also working a full time job, and traveling a lot for that job. (While still studying!) I lost a fair amount of weight off of my naturally slender frame just from being busy, stressed, and running around like a chicken with my head cut off, which CLEARLY is Tieghan’s life right now too. It’s not fatal. It’s young life as a go-getter. The human body is meant to adapt.

I didn’t notice I lost weight, I wasn’t trying, and I was still eating, but often on the fly, and when I could. I also got a lot of the fake concern and invasive questions, and every time, they were from larger ladies who would soon after asking about my weight and accusing me of a disorder, reveal their own insecurities about their own weight…then I’d have that “aha moment”…and end the conversation. No man, woman of normal weight, or mentally healthy person bothered me about my weight. Just people with insecurity issues and no boundaries.

Sure enough, when life slowed down, I went back to my normal baseline weight with no problems at all, and I still sit at that weight at the age 0f 54. I have four daughters, one son, and weigh what I weighed at 17. I am not remotely concerned about Tieghan. At least not her weight. She’ll be fine. Weight fluctuations with increasing activity, travel, stress, etc happen. THIS. IS. NORMAL…and necessary for human survival.

The lot of you harping about her weight should focus on yourselves, and your own self-improvement.

    1. Hi! Thank you for a lovely post, again. I love to read them, but feel i get some climate change anxiety? I don’t ask you to stop advertizing, i think it’s amazing that you can get paid that way so we can enjoy free recipes. But i’m interested in your thoughts about consuming, would you like to share something about it in a sunday post some day?
