Nine Favorite Things

Happy daylight savings! How excited are we all to have that extra hour of sunlight? I’ve been loving the brighter mornings. But there’s no doubt that I’m very happy to have another hour of daylight at the end of the day!

I need that extra hour this week more than ever. As usual, I am behind as I get ready for a lot of travel over the next month-plus. I’ll be heading to LA this week for a fun shoot, which I’m pretty excited about. You guys, I need to get out of this snow!

I’ll be home for a few days before all the cookbook craziness starts up on the 29th (book tour details are below). I can’t believe the book’s release is just 2 weeks out. I’ve been working on this book for almost 3 years now. Due to delays out of my control (hello covid, plus supply chain issues) this book’s release date was pushed back. This book was actually supposed to be released this past October, but we had to push it out until February. Then in January, they pushed it again to March 29th.

At one point, I was starting to wonder if the book would ever get released. So, this book is a long time coming, and as I said last week, I’m nervous. It’s always scary putting out new work, but this feels even more heightened. I think just because of all the time spent on it and then the anticipation for a new book. I know some of you guys are excited and I just don’t want to disappoint any of you!

The nerves are high, but so is my excitement. Hopefully, it’s just the book you all are looking for! Plus, I am so excited to get back out into things and meet many of you soon. Lots of fun things ahead!

Aside from all of that, everything is pretty mellow. My mom has really put a focus on planning the family tropical vacation, so I think everyone is excited about that. Not sure they’ve picked a location yet though, any suggestions?

What’s new with you all? Any vacations in the near future? Anyone have any fun St. Patrick’s day plans? We’ve never done anything for St. Patrick’s Day since leaving Cleveland. But we always used to go to the parade!

I think that’s all I have in updates for today! Enjoy a very springy favorite’s post! And don’t miss the book tour details below. I’m sharing everything you need to know in #5!

me outside in the cold

(it’s been cold, -17 on Friday morning)

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

ordered…Bow Glass Works Splash Cup. These are so fun. Make me excited for spring cocktails.

loving…all things Tatcha. I’ve loved Tatcha for years but recently added back a few of their products and they are so good. The body butter leaves my skin so hydrated. Dewy skin cream feels incredible on my face every day. And Asher loves the water cream

listening to…Maria Shriver & Patrick Schwarzenegger On Keys To Life, Brain Health, & Family Values. So curious to learn more on brain health after listing to this.

dreaming of going…

reading…Hillary Kerr’s newsletter. I love Hillary’s newsletter and have learned some of the best tips and tricks. Bed styling secrets, new product finds, quotes, highly recommend jeans, beauty product recommendations, and so much more. It’s honestly so good. I look forward to reading it weekly.

loving…comfortable underwear. This is random, but I loved these stretch rib panties from Skims and this cheeky pair from Alo too. Really comfort fit, which I think we can all appreciate

ordered…La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5. After watching this Instagram reel, I ordered this immediately. My lips have been better lately, but I’ll do anything to keep them hydrated. Can’t wait to lather this stuff on. Also, this reel is amazing if you’re looking to hydrate your skin.

wanting to try….BOKA Ela Mint Toothpaste. This “fancy” toothpaste is said to be the gold standard in Japanese dentistry. It’s pricy, so this is fun for travel since it’s travel size.

following…Charlotte Palermino. For all the best skincare tips/tricks. Her reels are so good (she shared the 2 above). I’ve already learned so much. I’m dying to try the forever eye mask. It’s in my shopping cart.

following…Gabriel Waller for fashion inspiration. they source high-end fashion finds and the IG account has so many cute pieces.

3. Favorite spring home ideas.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: what are your parents like? Your whole family seems so close and amazing!
a: My parents are both amazing and both in very different ways. My mom is one of the most incredible people. She’s inviting, caring, and the number of things she can get done could earn her an Olympic gold medal. She doesn’t know the word NO (or accept it)…which is incredible and bad (at times). There isn’t anyone like her. She brings people together and is always looking for ways to help others. She’s also been there for every single one of her kids, especially me. If we call, she drops everything for us and the same goes for my 3 cousins who are more like added siblings at this point ?

My dad is harder to put into words. He’s the most loving, accepting guy, but by the looks of him, you might not think so. I think you all know how special he is to me. He’s my go-to for everything from dirty dishes, business advice, and anything else life throws at me. My own personal therapist a lot of times too. What’s cool about him is that he really does accept people for who they are and doesn’t try to change them. He treats everyone the same. No 1 person is better than another.

q: what was it like growing up with so many siblings and specifically being the only girl until Asher came?
a: I think at the time it was hard for me. I was dying for my mom’s 1-on-1 attention, but with 5 brothers that pretty much never happened. But I also loved it and wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Looking back, my brothers gave me a thick skin and today they’re my best friends. I think having a sister would have been so hard for me in middle school. Asher came at the perfect time in my life. I helped take care of her sooooo much and getting to watch her grow up and mature is the weirdest, coolest thing! And I love being a part of a big family. As I said, these guys are my best friends and we’re all looking out for each other.

q: why weren’t you front and center with Creighton in the home coverage for Red?
a: cause that’s just not me. I stood in the back with my dad and all of Red’s board wax guys (that he freaking loves, they keep that snowboard of his speedy). Usually, I’ll say this little thing over and over in my head when he drops. I just kind of need to be more chill/alone. And we all know Creighton’s the opposite of chill ?

q: Could you share some of Red and Hailey’s favorite recipes?
I think poke is Red’s favorite, but he loves a crispy cauliflower taco too. Hails likes almost everything. She’s waiting for me to make her a copycat Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. Oh, and this garlic naan grilled cheese. I don’t know what her favorite is though ?

q: Did your parents ever struggle financially having 7 kids?
a: yeah, of course. When my brothers and I were younger there were multiple times I can remember. But both of my parents are very smart with money. We’ve never lived extravagantly/beyond our means (we have 3 trucks that are from 2000 or older). And until more recently, have always been pretty frugal.

q: Is the space we often see your house/studio?
a: yes, you’ve mostly seen the studio. My house is next door and I really haven’t filmed much there (mostly because it’s usually dark when I’m home)

q: Is your hair naturally dark or died? Feel like your family is all blonde/red hair?
a: naturally dark. I’ve never colored it. My dad has black hair, so does Trevor, and Malachi’s is more my color.

q: What question do you get sick of being asked all the time?

Who’s Oslo?
my brother

Is your family Mormon?
no

Are you married?
no

How many kids do you have?
none

Do you live with your parents?
no

Is Asher your daughter?
no

Where do you live?
Colorado

6. Hotel recommendations + inspiring me

We all know how much I LOVE a nice hotel. If it could be 6 stars I’m there. Something about a nice hotel makes traveling easier for me. As someone who is a super anxious traveler, I try to do whatever I can to take the stress out of traveling. This is one thing I never had growing up that I tell myself I’ve worked for.

In the past, I’ve literally not gone on trips last minute due to anxiety. Then, I made the decision to always stay in a hotel that feels comforting to me and I haven’t canceled a trip yet. So bottom line, the hotel is very important. I know some don’t care (i.e my mom), but this is just me!

I would love your recommendations for hotels in Chicago, DC, NYC, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston! And hey, I feel like I know the best LA hotel (1 Hotel and The Edition), but if you have LA hotels you love, I’d love to learn about those too!

THANK YOU GUYS!

  1. Hi Tieghan!
I know you have a fave in LA but Terranea Resort (https://www.terranea.com/) can be a spot in between your Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa stops.
It’s a great getaway, feels like you are very far from everything when you are there.
    Take care,
    Maura

  2. Hotel recommendation for Chicago! The Chicago Athletic Association. Such a cool place…very Harry Potterish… right up your alley! Highly recommend.

  3. Hi Tieghan!
My precious daughter-in-law surprised me with a girls night out for my birthday! She purchased 2 tickets to your book signing in Houston. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed by her thoughtfulness and we both look forward to meeting you in Houston in April. We both enjoy your “Nine favorite things” postings and often talk about your recipes. Enjoy your travels and please stay safe. It will be wonderful to see you just a week before Easter!
    Take care,
    Cecile

    1. Hey Cecile,
Thanks so much for your kind message!! How exciting! I am so excited to be visiting Houston, I hope you love the event! Happy Birthday:) xTieghan

  4. Hi Tieghan,
I’m sorry I will miss your Chicago tour date! I love your recipes and will be purchasing your cookbook for me as well as my dil’s. Keep those creative juices flowing I’m always excited to see what you have created!!
Take care and have fun in your book tour.
    Marcia

    1. Hey Marcia,
Thank you so much for your kind message and all of your support! So sorry you won’t be able to make it to the event! xx

  5. Love you, your site and your cookbooks. Excited for HBH Everyday. Just wondering if you are touring to Denver or Silverthorne?

    1. Hi Cathy,
Thanks so much for your kind message! Unfortunately, not for this first round but hope to add a few more stops later this year:) xT

  6. I’d love if your mom did a segment on older skin care. She’s so youthful but I know she must experience skin changes like those of us who are older!!

  7. All the Dallas recommendations I’ve seen are great. I would add The Ritz to that list. We’ve stayed there on our anniversary; it is such a beautiful place, and the people there are warm and welcoming. Also if you have a chance to eat at Fearing’s, it is a wonderful experience. Enjoy your tour and good luck!

    1. Hey Kathy,
Thanks so much for these suggestions, will definitely add them to the list! Have a great week! xTieghan

  8. For hotel recommendations during the book tour, check out makeup mogul Bobbi Brown’s boutique hotel, The George. Gorgeous! It’s in Montclair, NJ, 12 miles outside of NYC and 20 minutes from Short Hills Mall, where you’ll be on 3/31. http://Www.thegeorgemontclair.com.

  9. We’ve just been researching hotels in NYC for a mid-April trip there. This will be our 10th trip at least there and so I like to sample staying in different parts of Manhattan. We’ve also stayed at NYC historic hotels and also very modern hotels, small boutique hotels and large chain hotels too. This time we wanted a newer hotel in the midtown area near Bryant Park (close to Times Square but NOT in Times Squares.

We chose The Archer Hotel just one block south of Bryant Part (where NYC main public library is). There are lots of places to walk to and several subway lines to take west/east and north/south from there. It looked fun and updated.

We have stayed at the Library Hotel also in this same area before and loved it, but this time we wanted something with more of a lobby and a rooftop deck/bar.

The other ones we considered but didn’t choose this time were: The Refinery, The Beekman, the Bowery, and The Knickerbocker.

    Good luck and have fun!

    1. Hey Shell,
Thanks so much for reading today! I truly appreciate all of the hotel recommendations and info on them! Enjoy your time in NYC! xTieghan

  10. Oh girl. You and I are on the same page with the hotels. The hotel room makes the trip! (Well be following the thread for other suggestions)The Langham hotel in Chicago is beyond amazing.
    https://www.langhamhotels.com/en/the-langham/chicago/
Stay on the club level please… they have amazing offerings all day long and they are magicians with knowing when to service rooms. The female staff wear Chanel pink suits and they have a signature “Langham pink” OPI nail color. Another city I can give you a winner stay for is Dallas. https://www.crescentcourt.com. Crescent Court. The rooms and room service are fantastic. Its in a great location and the attention to detail is spectacular. In Houston, Hotel ZaZa is also a good option. Have a wonderful trip!

    1. Hey Charlene,
Thank you so very much for the hotel suggestions and all of the details, super helpful of you!! Have a great week! xTieghan

  11. When you come to Chicago I’d recommend the Langham-it’s my favorite hotel in the city, closely followed by the Peninsula! I hope to make your event on 3/29, good luck with the book tour.

  12. Very excited for your cookbook launch, but sad your book tour doesn’t have any Colorado dates. Please keep your Colorado fans in mind if you add more dates. Good luck!

  13. Hey Tieghan,

I love these posts and I was catching up on last weeks post and saw you were going to mention book tour dates today. Needless to say I felt like a kid in candy store to see what cities were going. Ever since you announced there would be a book tour, I was hoping beyond hope Phoenix or somewhere in AZ would be on the list. If you add more cities please consider us here 🙂 Since I didn’t get my wish I have a second favor to ask. I know you can buy autographed copies and that’s great. I’d love if you would write a personalized message and autograph it if I sent you the book. I do have a friend in Houston whose daughter loves to cook and I’ve bragged about you to her. I wanted to buy your cookbook for another friend in FL. I’m always sending your recipes to her and encouraging her to get into the kitchen more. Speaking of food I’m going to make your Lemon Pepper Cajun Fettuccini today so excited!! I was never a big of fan of fettuccini growing up but this sounds amazing!! Also, the sheet pan Cajun salmon tacos are at the top of my list to make. I am a big brunch person so that French Toast is a must make. Please share more brunch recipes on occasion as well I’d love that!! Have you ever made a Bananas Foster before?? If so I’d love to see any recipe you have. Lastly, on food that caramel sheet cake with the fudgy frosting looks spectacular. Every year I make a dessert for my trainers birthday. This might be the one for this year coming up thank you!! Lastly, I was born in Cleveland and saw you grew up there. How long did you live there?? What were your favorite memories from your time there?? Is there anything you miss about Cleveland today?? Did you want to move or would you have liked to stay?? Have a great week look forward to reading your comments as always 🙂

    1. Hi Mike,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along! I sure hope I can visit some more cities later this year. I hope you loved the fettuccine recipe:) Will definitely try to add some more brunch recipes! I lived in Cleveland until I was in 8th grade. Definitely miss the summers there and living on the lake. I really didn’t have much of an opinion about moving at that age:) I hope you have a great weekend! xxTieghan

  14. Congratulations on your book tour! For Chicago – The Peninsula is top notch. Viceroy or Langham would be great too, but The Peninsula is still a high-end, yet comfortable, standard.

    1. I was going to say The Line, too! And its great because its in the neighborhoods (AdMo) rather than downtown. But if you want to be closer to Sixth & I, The Eaton is great, too.

      1. Stay at the Nobu hotel when you’re in Chicago! It’s super trendy, and it’s located in the hottest food neighborhood in the city 🙂
