Mother’s Day Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Cookbook Gift Basket.

Doing something a little on the different side today and sharing a Mother’s Day gift idea! Don’t worry, food is still involved, plus it’s extra special food, because the recipe is my mom’s famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, which can be found in the HBH cookbook!

I have no idea if I’ve told you guys this or not, but as a kid I loved crafts, and even more than crafts, I loved making things look  pretty. So much so that throughout my entire childhood and teenage years I said I was going to become a fashion stylist. I even went as far as to apply to a fashion design school. I got accepted, moved to LA, and got a job where I worked for two months. But at the last-minute, right before starting school, I decided to do an about-face, and moved back to CO and started this blog. It’s a long story…for another day.

The point is, to this day I still love crafting, and obviously I still love making things look pretty. These days time does not allow for spending hours on a craft project, but at least I can spend my days making food look pretty…and delicious. Not complaining.

When I had this idea for a Mother’s Day gift basket pop into my head, I knew it was something I had to share with you guys. It’s just too cute, I love it. And I’m pretty sure that any mom out there will love it to. I know for a fact that my mom will, as it includes all of her most favorite things.

And the best part? It’s SO easy and relatively inexpensive to put together.

Whoop. Whoop.

When it comes to Mother’s Day, my mom has never made a big deal out of it. She’s told me on multiple occasions that there was no need to do anything. Mother’s Day is for more for your grandmothers, she said.

Right. Right.

I of course do not listen to any of this nonsense. When we lived in Cleveland, Mom would always have a family brunch, dinner, or often both. But since moving to Colorado, we don’t do anything extra extravagant for Mother’s Day. Instead, I like to do the “little” things that really show my mom I care. Things like cooking her breakfast (these waffles are her favorite), spending time creating a thoughtful gift, and getting all my siblings together for a family dinner (with a side of these potatoes because they are also her favorite).

Again, it’s nothing extravagant, but it’s honestly exactly what my mom wants. Although, I don’t think she would mind a trip to somewhere tropical either…or maybe that’s just me?

This brings me to this pretty little basket. Which come on, isn’t it so cute and fun?!

I called in my friends at The Little Market to help bring this basket to life and it came out better than I could have imagined. I blame this mostly on all of the cute product The Little Market has to offer. This Bohemian Market Basket that I used is even cuter in person, and it’s perfect for everything from Farmers Market shopping to the summer beach days that are quickly approaching. I also included two of my favorite candles, my cookbook (of course!), and a homemade cookie jar mix, using my mom’s oatmeal cookie recipe that’s found in the cookbook. The cookie jar contains just the dry ingredients, so all you have to do is add the contents of the jar to a mixing bowl, add the eggs, oil, and vanilla, mix and bake. It makes baking cookies super easy and fun!

For the cookie jars, I used these Weck Tulip Jars that fit exactly half of the cookie recipe you’ll find in the cookbook. You could fill your basket with two jars, to make a full recipe, or simply keep one jar for yourself.

If you wanted to fill your basket up more, try adding in some cute mixing spoons. Measuring cups would be really fun too!

And that’s it. You see…so simple, fun, and easy. And trust me, your mom, or anyone you gift this basket to, will love it. It’s always the homemade gifts that are the most loved. They require a little thought and a little time, but that’s what makes them so special.

OKAY and lastly, be sure to keep following along on Instagram because we’ll be giving away ONE of these baskets this week, along with a signed copy of the Half Baked Harvest Cookbook!

How To Assemble the Cookie Jars:

  1. Halve the ingredients in the Mom’s One-Bowl Oatmeal Cookies recipe in the HBH Cookbook OR make two cookie jars.
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda and salt together in a bowl.
  3. Layer the ingredients in the following order: oatmeal, flour mix, brown sugar, granulated sugar, chocolate chips. Seal the jar.
  4. Decorate the jars as desired and gift in a basket, along with the HBH cookbook, which includes the recipe with directions on how to bake the cookies.

How To Assemble the Basket:

  1. Stuff the basket three-fourths the way full with sturdy tissue paper or packing paper. Arrange the cookbook, cookie jar, and candles inside, using more paper to make everything fit snug. Drape the kitchen towel over the basket.
  2. Decorate as desired with flowers and bows.

Products Used For my Basket:

Bohemian Market Basket – The Little Market

Candles – The Little Market (I used Chamomile and Peony)

Tea Towel – The Little Market

  4. Oh! I would love to give this beautiful basket to my mom for mother’s day. My parents live in Frisco, right down the road from Rainbow Lake, and I live in Austin with my husband and two young daughters. Sadly, I’m rarely with my mom on mother’s day anymore. She would adore this gift.
