Rich and creamy Tahini Hot Chocolate. Steamed coconut milk, sweet chocolate, and nutty toasted tahini, all flavored with real vanilla. This cocoa is creamy, rich, perfectly sweet, and best enjoyed with a large helping of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Perfect for these cold wintery days. This recipe is simple and quick, with only 6 ingredients. It’s just delicious.

This is the winter for hot chocolate. I mean, of course, every winter is hot chocolate season. But for whatever reason, I’m all about sharing hot chocolate recipes this year.

Back in December, I shared Asher’s hot chocolate, which is very specific to Asher and the way she enjoys her personal mug. Then just a few weeks ago, in January, I shared this spiced chai hot chocolate. And now, rich, creamy, sweet, and magical tahini hot chocolate.

Of the 3 recipes I’ve now shared, this is my personal favorite, my mom’s too. It’s like drinking chocolate with just the right amounts of sweetness, nuttiness, and notes of vanilla.

We’re in love with it.

When it comes to hot chocolate, we all know that my mom can be picky. She drinks a mug every single morning and again at night while she works. She has a very specific healthified hot cocoa that she makes (actually my dad makes it for her). But this is a little different.

This mug is dessert. The use of coconut milk, dark chocolate chunks, and tahini make this so rich, creamy, and indulgent.

Here are details

Start with the milk. Use creamy canned coconut milk, unless you despise coconut. If you do, simply use whole milk. Warm the milk until steaming, then add the chocolate, tahini, and honey to sweeten.

Cover the pot, now let it sit to melt the chocolate, this is key. Whisk the milk and chocolate together until the chocolate is fully melted. Whisk vigorously to get some nice foam on top of your milk.

From here, add the vanilla and sea salt (if you like). You can also add a bit of cinnamon, but mom and I decided this is best with just the vanilla. It really highlights the vanilla flavors from the tahini. Cinnamon can sometimes overpower that.

Pour the creamy, steaming hot chocolate into a mug. Top with whipped cream and toasted sesame seeds + chocolate curls.

Enjoy immediately and experience the creamy, rich, chocolatey magic of this decadent drink. Every sip feels indulgent and tastes sweet and wonderful. You’ll just love this, I know it!

Oh, and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day too!

  1. Hey there! Can’t wait to try this! I’m curious about your mom’s healthy hot chocolate and would love to know more!

    Oh my gosh,

Just made this with unsweetened cocoa powder as that’s what I had. Absolutely delicious! Perfect for Minnesota and the 20 inches of snow that’s on its way.

  3. I’m not sure if this could be a thing or not but I read that title at first glance as tiramisu hot chocolate, one of my favorite desserts on the planet! I think it could be a delicious recipe! I would have no clue where to start though lol

    1. I second this. Stealing another content creator’s work and passing it off as your own is not just unethical, it’s despicable. Tweaking measurements and leaving out an ingredient
may clear you legally, but not morally.

I literally ran to the kitchen to make this as I had all of the ingredients on hand. Like your Mom, I drink hot chocolate regularly. I am always looking for the best recipe using high quality chocolate. I never would have thought to use tahini. Brilliant! This is delicious and so creamy. A very unique recipe. Thank you!

    1. Hey Marilyn,
Happy Friday!!❤️ I appreciate you making this recipe and sharing your feedback, so glad it was delish! xT

  5. I made tahini caramel the other day and had leftovers in my fridge. When I saw this recipe land in my inbox, I knew the two would be a match made in heaven. This recipe is great (with and without the caramel). It’s rich, nutty (seedy?), and not overly sweet (I used the minimum amount of honey). Well balanced and delish!

  6. Will definitely be making this, but I’m curious if you can share your moms personal healthified hot chocolate recipe she has every day. Thanks! I enjoy your recipes and videos

  7. Lol everyone asking for a different recipe than what’s shared.
This looks and sounds incredible and I can’t wait to make it!

    1. Not really.. tahini is made from sesame seeds. It’s used in hummus. It works really well in sweet and savoury dishes and gives it a nutty flavour. It’s more a sesame flavour than a peanutty flavour 😊

  8. Hi! Can you share your Moms hot chocolate recipe? I too have a cup every morning and would love to see what I can be doing better or healthier or at least try. 😁
