Salty-sweet Pretzel Snickers Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. Homemade chocolate chip cookies, swirled with salted pretzels, and chewy caramel Snickers bars. There’s nothing not to love about these sweet cookie bars. Each bite is slightly crisp on top, but soft and gooey inside…with pockets of melted chocolate and sweet caramel. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top (if you like) for a salty-sweet touch.

I’ve never been someone who craves candy or gets overly excited about it. I was one of the weirdest kids…trust me. I barely ate any candy at all. BUT, on occasion, I’d happily enjoy some.

Especially on Halloween night. But I wasn’t that weird that I didn’t love filling my pillowcase full of as many Malley’s bars, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and Snickers bars as I could.

The giant Malley’s bars were always my absolute favorite, but Snickers were also up there. My mom uses them in her Christmas Eve Death by Chocolate just for that reason, I really do love them.

With Halloween approaching, I know we’re all stocking up on candy for trick-or-treaters. So make sure you buy extra Snickers. Because you have to make these simple but so delicious cookie bars.

The idea is that you’ll all have leftover Halloween candy. These bars could be the perfect sweet treat to bake them into. They honestly turned out so delicious. I think we need to make them from now through the holidays.

These would be perfect for gifting!!

The details

The cookie base recipe is my go-to. It’s the one my mom used growing up, and the cookies always turned out delicious.

Beat the butter with the sugars, add some eggs, double the vanilla, then add flour. Mix, mix, mix and you’ll have delicious cookie dough. Not fancy, but we all know cookies don’t need to be fancy to be great.

The “special” Halloween touches.

…semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks. Nothing special here, pretty classic but you need them. I prefer chunks because the pockets of melted chocolate are so delicious.

…Snickers candy bars, the most important “special touch”. They add a touch of sweet caramel to every bite.

…salted pretzels and a little pinch of flaky sea salt. For a little salty-sweet touch that makes each cookie truly addicting.

What I love about these cookies is that they’re easy to make, require no chilling, and take less than an hour…so simple.

But my favorite part? These bars are perfectly crisp on top, yet soft, gooey, and almost underdone in the center. Which in my opinion makes for the BEST cookie bars. And if you’re like me, and enjoy cookie bars with sea salt on top…addicting.

I’m not normally such a decadent cookie person. But Halloween always gives me an excuse to have a little more fun with candy.

These would be fun to take to a school event or Halloween party. And as I said, make them with all that leftover Halloween candy. You could certainly swap in your favorite candy in place of the Snickers. Use what you love and enjoy!

    1. Hey Molly,
You will want the butter to be room temp! Please let me know if you give the recipe a try, I hope you love it! xTieghan

  1. If I were to make these on a Wednesday – and stored in an airtight container – do you think they would still be delicious on Saturday evening?

    1. Hey Julie,
Yes, that would work well for you. I hope you love this recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xTieghan

  2. Good morning-
I love snickers and looking forward to tying this recipe. Have you tried to make this as a drop cookie instead of a bar?

    1. Hey Patti,
Sure, that should be just fine to do. I hope you love this recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xTieghan

These turned out so good!! Perfect for post-halloween. Could also be very customizable. Instead of 3 cups total of add ins (choc chips, snickers, pretzels) I did about 2 to 2.5 cups which seemed perfect. Otherwise I followed the directions exactly, baked for 22 min was great, it was brown in color but looked a little soft. Once it was all cooled it was nice and soft!

  4. Do you have a target weight per cup of flour? I think King Arthur suggests 120 g per cup but I know each recipe creator tends to weigh a little differently. I’m wondering if overdoing the amount of flour is what’s making some people’s bars too dry.

  5. What happened to mine? Totally crumbly. Would not hold a square. Felt very savory and bread like. I blame the pretzel sticks.

I wanted to love these! They came out so dry.

I usually love all your recipes ! But , I followed all of the steps and measured the ingredients meticulously and they were unfortunately very dry .

I have made this recipe twice and taken the brownies to gatherings. They were a hit with everyone. They are the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Quick and easy to make.

Great recipe and very easy to make! I read through the reviews about others thinking these were dry or more cake like but I did not find that to be the case. Mine came out very cookie like and delicious! I did not pack the flour in extremely tight when measuring which might have helped.

  9. My sister made them for book club last night and 7 of us finished every last bar ! Will definitely be making this again and again!

I am not sure why people are stating they are cake like. Mine turned out perfect! My entire family loved them. The sweet and salty combination is amazing. I’ll definitely make these again. I did cook them for only 18 minutes, so maybe people are cooking them too long.

    1. Hey Katie! This is awesome, I’m so happy to hear this recipe turned out the way you’d hoped! 🙂 xTieghan

I wanted to love these! I liked the flavors, but, as a few people have commented, they were a little on the dry side. If I do them again, I’d bake for less time. Or maybe do just 2 cups of flour? All that being said, I’m eating one right now. Lol.

    1. Hey Cheryl, I am so sorry these didn’t turn out the way you hoped! I really appreciate the feedback! xTieghan

I made this for a family get together, but subbed in Twix instead of snickers because of a peanut allergy. I also added Halloween m&ms just for fun and it was a huge hit! Everyone loved it and asked me if they could take home any leftovers. I will definitely be making this again 🙂
