Nine Favorite Things – I know how to be cozyyy

Happiest Sunday everyone! This week flew by, didn’t it? All and all a pretty good week. I’ve been doing a whole lot of the same this month, cooking during the day, and working on another exciting project at night. Nothing crazy exciting to report. But I do finally have a trip to New York lined up, so that’s exciting!

I also think we’re going to try and take a trip to Miami sometime in the near future, so of course I’m looking forward to that! Do you have a favorite Miami hotel? Last year we stayed at The 1 Hotel, South Beach, which we really enjoyed!

I think we all know that I am very particular about my hotels. I love to find THE BEST ones in every city I travel to. I don’t know if I’ve pinpointed an absolute favorite in New York just yet. But I can say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my multiple stays at The Park Hyatt New York in Central Park. I know I can always count on an amazing stay and outstanding personalized treatment while I am there.

So what are you all up to? Tell me something fun! Does anyone have any fun trips they’re planning? How about your weekend, did anyone do anything special? I feel like everyone is beginning to plot their spring vacations.

Things that went on in my world this week: I spent a day baking and turning the kitchen upside down. Fortunately, I created such a delicious recipe…the next day. Yes, it took over 72 hours to nail a simple cookie recipe.

I also made pizzas for the family. Then dropped the very last (perfect pepperoni) pizza right on the stone fireplace mantel as I was removing it from the pizza oven. I of course used the 10-second rule and scooped that pizza right up, cheese and all. No pizza left behind! I also spilled a bucket of flaky sea salt, it snowed salt all over my head. I am still picking flakes out of my hair.

And on a high note, I was invited to my first New York fashion week show, I am so excited!

I think that’s it for today. Some of the family is heading to Aspen on Wednesday for X Games. I don’t think I’m going to attend this year, the house situation is a little cramped. Asher spent some time organizing all my clothes, so that was a nice bonus!

Have a lovely Sunday! Enjoy another Favorite’s post!

1. things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…dried roses, as you may have noticed. I’ve been using them in a lot of photos recently. So pretty

wanting…fresh flowers. Snowy days need flowers inside. And candles. I love ordering from Farmgirl Flowers. Terrian also has stunning bouquets and tee branches with buds, but they are a bit pricier.

everything in my cart (low)-from Zara, this silk lace bralette is super pretty. A trendy, but affordable shoulder bag is a Zara must-have. We all need a pair or 2 of basic tights. This reversible double faced coat looks designer, and I love these hoop earrings.

listening to…Life After Rock Bottom: Arielle Lorre on Addiction. Always enjoy Arielle’s podcast, but her story is even more inspiring.

shopping…Jenny Bird jewelry. Such cute pieces at an affordable price. I might order the Sofia Choker. It’s cute!!

burning…Trudon Fir scented candle. I know, I know, this is too much money for a candle, but just smell it. It’s wonderful, and so much better than you’d expect. But also, I am always burning my beloved Snif candles. This week’s scent, Instant Karma.

ordering…the UGG Classic Tall II Sheepskin Boots. I mean, I love that these are back in style. So cozy.

dreaming of going to…Coco’s Hollywood: The Chanel Cruise Is Heading to Los Angeles. Oh, how I would love to attend this. What a dream!

everything in my cart (beauty)…the Dior Capture Totale Le Sérum Anti Aging Serum sounds like a magic serum. And I love the packaging. My Sephora cart currently has 3 shades of the Ami Colé Skin-Enhancing Concealer. How do I find the perfect shade for my skin tone? I’m loving everything Ilia, their Bright Start Retinol Alternative Brightening Eye Cream is also in my cart. I can’t wait to try this. I have yet to try anything from Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty collection but I just added the Silky Touch Highlighter to my cart. All four colors are so pretty. I love finishing a fresh face with a sweep of a highlighter. It’s always so pretty.

Also, the Kitsch Back to School Satin Heatless Curling Set. So curious to see if this really works, I’ve been seeing it all over social! I’ve always wanted easy curls.

loving…this serenely elegant country house. I love the design of this home. So laid back and relaxing. Plus, the kitchen is perfect.

watching…Break Point on Netflix. My cousin, Abby is watching this and recommends it.

listening to…Start The New Year Organized with the Home Edit. So I never watched the Home Edit on Netflix. Mainly because I never watch any TV except super late at night while editing. But I’ve always followed The Home Edit girls and like the rest of the world, love them. I enjoyed learning more about them and their organizational process!

everything in my cart (high)…these Valentino Wool and Silk Flared Pants are perfect. They’d actually be super cute with this very pretty Victoria Beckham Crochet Knit Top. Oh, and this cozy Alpaca Blend Sweater from Frame (adding it to my cart now). This Saint Laurent Sheer Maxi Skirt and long velvet skirt are both gorgeous. These Bottega Veneta drop earrings have been added to my cart so many times. I love them. But for something affordable, the Mejuri Bold Croissant Dôme Huggies are equally cute.

And lastly, this sweet, girly Alexander McQueen Paris Net Dress is the prettiest. I wish I had somewhere to wear it. Oh, and this fun Brandon Maxwell Liquid Dip Die Gown too.

ordering…turmeric ginger tea from Rishi Tea. To have on hand for anyone feeling a cold coming on.

shopping…for a new desk lamp! Oddly, I’m kind of loving this girly pink lamp. Also, I love this curved chair for a work from home office. Need to order!

listening to…I just discovered the Everygirl podcast and am looking forward to doing a deep dive into previous episodes. I’m going to start with Megan Roup on How to Make Workouts More Effective, Body Confidence, and Secrets to Feeling Motivated.

watching…Wolf Pack, the teen wolf movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar on Paramount+. So I never watched Teen Wolf, but I (still to this very day), love Buffy. Obviously, I have to watch this. Excited to see Sarah in this type of role again!

3. Work from home desk refresh.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: where do you get all of your parmesan rinds? Have you used that much cheese?
a:  Yes. I have used that much cheese! I go through a lot of Parmesan I guess. The rinds are leftover from all of the parmesan cheese we buy.

q: how far into your business did you hire (after you and your mom)?
a: Our first outside-of-the-family team member we only just hired 2+ years ago. So about 8 years into the business. But my cousin Maggie has worked with us for 3 years and my brother Malachi has almost always worked with us on video content.

q: do you use an app to get organized personally and professionally as well?
a: No. But I really should. Any advice? Any apps you recommend?

q: do you consume social media or just use it solely for your job?
a: I’m not big on consuming social. I follow a few select people who really inspire me. And I follow my family. I don’t watch/read much else. I also hit the unfollow button often. If the content doesn’t sit well with me, it’s time to move on. Since it’s the beginning of the year, it might be a good time to do a little social clean. Either mute or unfollow the accounts that aren’t serving you anymore. It helps clear your mind of unnecessary clutter/stress, I swear.

q: do you see yourself ever getting married and having kids? You’d be the best at both!
a: I hope so! But I’m not in any rush either. I’m enjoying this time of my life. I’m hyper-focused on work and learning to make more time for the things/people who are most important to me. I think it will happen when the time is right and I’m not stressing over it. It will come naturally. Good things happen when you least expect them.

q: I hate all the internet trolls and they break my heart. I hope you don’t let them get you down!
a: Me too ♥️♥️♥️ but for every troll there are 100 kind people like you!!! And I focus on the positive, ignore the negative. I know who I am and what I’m about. So do the people closest to me. I’ve learned to accept my flaws and embrace the qualities that make me, ME. Most of the negative comes from people who are unhappy with their own lives. They’re looking to bring others down to make themselves feel better. It’s sad, I wish I could help those people feel happy again.

q: I mean no judgment, but do you come from money? Obviously, your business is successful.
a: No. Growing up we definitely didn’t do extravagant things. My mom clipped coupons religiously, we shopped at the cheapest grocery store in town (Marcs) and we never went out to eat. My parents saved to take us skiing, or to visit my grandparents in Florida). We lived an amazing life, I had the best childhood and never felt any stress on money. But I didn’t come from money, which is often assumed. My parents worked insanely hard to support us growing up. We’ve all worked hard to make HBH successful. Nothing was just given, it was all from putting in the hours.

q: what have you learned about yourself this year?
a: This has been such a huge growth year both personally and professionally. I’ve learned a lot. The greatest thing I learned is that in order to continue to find creativity, I need to also explore my interests outside of food. I’ve found so much inspiration in allowing myself to enjoy/have fun with fashion again (I always wanted to be a stylist growing up). I’ve also found an unexpected joy in travel, something I used to dread, I’ve loved getting to travel for work. I’m hoping to do more of both fashion and travel this year. I’ve also learned how to be a better leader to our smaller team. It’s something I work at daily and am happily continuing to grow into. I love the small team we’re building ♥️

Also, positivity and mindset make ALL the difference. Shift your mindset and things change for the better. And BE KIND to everyone.

5. A few random, fun questions for us all.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

I thought this would fun! Share your answers in the comments. Also, make sure you read all the comments in this Cup of Joe post, which is where I got this idea!

1. what is a non-expensive thing that makes your life easier?

me: I live by my google calendar, I couldn’t go a day without my notebook for my daily to-do list, and the notes app, which is free! For the kitchen, cookie scoops in multiple sizes, kitchen scissors (I use them to cut raw chicken). A dough/bench scraper (to scrap the counters clean).

dad: this Cutco spatula. It’s not non-expensive but considering that we’ve had it              for 30 years, it kind of is.

Taylor: I have a subscription to headspace app. It gives me reminders and good vibes throughout the day. I also can’t live without my planner.

McKenzie: I know this is so boring but AQUAPHOR! I have multiple sizes of them and I keep them everywhere! On my nightstand, in my makeup bag, my purse, & I use it on my eyelashes/eyelids at night and my lips throughout the day!

Ellie: protein powder! Sometimes I eat like an astronaut because it makes for the quickest meal! Pro tip: add as topping to all smoothies 😋

2. what’s your favorite beauty product, tool, or ritual you swear by?

me: I have three. The IS Clinical pro heal serum every morning, the Dr.Dennis Gross red/blue light mask, and dry brushing every night (skin game changer).

mom: a Cutie before bed 🍊

Asher: Dr. Dennis Gross face mask, love this for treating acne.

Maggie: Skinny Confidential Ice Roller it really helps with the tired-mom-puffy-face.

Taylor: I use glycolic pads every night without fail. I have water with lemon first thing when I wake up. Both keep my skin clear.

McKenzie: under eye patches! I love doing my morning skincare and then putting on some soothing under-eye patches while I work. makes me feel like I’m enjoying a little luxurious thing while also getting things done!

Ellie: Artis beauty brushes are my favorite! They apply product so smoothly, as if it has been airbrushed.

3. best wellness habit you do every single day no matter what?

me: daily movement keeps me happy. I hike every morning, then my morning routine. Drinking so much water throughout the day keeps me going and my skin healthy. Legs up the wall every single night. Plus, podcasts and candles!

mom: a hike, two 3+ minute planks, and this weird exercise move.

Maggie: taking a multi-vitamin every day.

Taylor: I always find some way to move my body. Even if it’s just a quick walk to the beach.

McKenzie: daily movement & listening to a podcast/devotional! makes my body & my mind happy & helps me destress!

Ellie: I keep a bag of chocolate chips nearby 😉 & always go for a morning walk!

4. something fun you’re doing this weekend or coming up?

me: online shopping tonight…I’m excited. I need some new tops.

mom: heading to Aspen with some fam to watch Red at X Games.

Maggie: we’re heading to Aspen too!

Taylor: Spa day to celebrate my GF preserving health issues 💕

McKenzie: my sister and brother-in-law are coming to visit us in Nashville so we’re excited to show them all of our favorite places and things here!

Ellie: I am going on a ski trip to Big Sky in a few weeks with friends. I have never been!

5. what dinner has been on repeat in your kitchen (doesn’t need to be HBH)?

me: Red’s Poke Bowls and dad’s tacos.

mom: We eat what Tieghan makes that day for dinner every night. But my daily breakfast staple is buttered toast – when Tieghan makes naan that’s the best! Plus my cacao/hot cocoa every morning and night.

Maggie: Penne Alla Vodka from the Super Simple Cookbook.

Taylor: ramen is on repeat for us. Love love all the different things you can add to change it up.

McKenzie: I’ve been making tonsss of soups. So easy to be able to throw everything in a pot and simmer during the day while I work. Then at the end of the day we eat a cozy soup with some warm bread! Special shout-out to the HBH Instant Pot Pesto Zuppa Toscana recipe, that I make on the stove. I’ve made it three times in the past 2 weeks 😍.

Ellie: cozy chicken noodle soup!!

6. Inspiring me.

I love this quote so much. Don’t hide what makes you different. Embrace it! Don’t be someone else. Your uniqueness is what will help you succeed the most. Promise.

  1. I couldnt click on this recipe … Sheet Pan Chipotle Salmon Tacos with Pineapple Jalapeño Salsa, it sounded awesome!

  2. Hi Tieghan, happy Sunday! A question for you about the dry brushing. I do have one of these brushes (I need to remember to use it more often), but I always heard the best time to do it was before a shower or bath, usually in the morning. Is there an advantage to doing it at night?

PS – love legs up the wall. I learned about that in yoga years ago. So good for your circulation and totally relaxing!

  3. How do you get your groceries? From what you have described, it seems like you live a ways up in the mountains away from stores. How do you have on hand what you need to experiment & create all your new ideas?

    1. Hi Michelle,
We do live in the mountains, but only 5 minutes from town where we have Whole Foods and City Market. Anything that I can’t find in stores I just order online. Please let me know if you have any other questions:) xx

  4. I really enjoyed this Nine Favorite Things and I really liked the “a few random, fun questions for us all”. It was really fun to read the answers from you all! Also curious if you try the satin heatless curling set and how it turns out.

    1. Hey Cindy,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your feedback! So glad to hear you enjoyed the questions! Have a great week:) xx

  5. What a fun post! I’m curious about your Mom’s “weird exercise move” haha

    1. Post It notes-I remember things better when I write them down
    2. Amlactin lotion-all the formulas. Soooo effective, great rec by my dermatologist
    3. Drink plenty of water/magnesium pills
    4. Canada vacation in Feb
    5. HBH pesto pasta alla vodka

If people are going to continue asking women about getting married and having kids it’s only fair to ask if Creighton sees himself getting married and having kids? It’s absolutely none of my business-I just cannot get over people asking such personal questions. You handle it like a champ!

    Have a good week!

    1. Hey Amber,
Lol I’ll have to see if she will share with us on stories! Post it notes are always great to have on hand! Enjoy your Canada vacation and thanks for making the pesto pasta all vodka so often!

I think Creighton is pretty content right now:) There’s lots of babies around so he gets to be the fun uncle!

Hope you’re having a great week! xT

  6. Great post today, super fun reading the new & different parts. Please report back on the Satin Heatless Curling Set and let us know if it works. Thanks!

  7. The questions are so fun. Reminds me of quizzes we’d do in high school and pass around!

    1. My physical wall calendar. I color-code for different people/categories and it’s an easy way to see my week and plan ahead.

    2. Cold water splashed on my face every morning, then drinking a glass of water. Right now I alternate between BeautyCounter Countertime cleanser and Primally Pure cleanser bar. I need to get better at moisturizing afterwards though.

    3. Walks. Puppy needs them, but mentally helps me too. …And tongue scraping every morning. Takes 5 seconds and so good for oral health

    4. Snowboarding at some resorts I’ve never been to (Copper and Steamboat Springs)

    5. Rice bowls. Pretty much rice + oil + veg + protein + spices. Easy and infinitely changeable.

    1. Hey Deb,
Thanks for reading! So glad to hear you enjoyed the questions:) Love a wall calendar, something about writing things out! Water is key! Awe, what kind of puppy do you have? That’s always fun and a great reason to get outside! Love a good rice bowl! Have a great Tuesday! xx

  8. Without fail your nine favourite things always brings a smile to my face. So many beauty and skincare products are in my cart right now. I loved this post, so many helpful hints – thanks HBH team!

Also ready to start baking all the citrus loaves, they look so good.

    Answers to the questions:

    1) Going to have to agree with Ellie and say protein powder
    2) Toner, serum and moisturizer after washing my face before bed
    3) Drink athletic greens – such a good product. Also working out or some sort of intentional movement
    4) Breakfast with a friend
    5) Chicken anything – it’s something I just don’t get tired of and can be made in so many different ways!

    1. Hey Janaya,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading each Sunday!! Love that you have been able to add a few things to your cart:) Thanks for sharing your responses to the Cup of Joe questions….seems like movement is so important for all of us! I have to agree with chicken, it is so versatile! Hope you’re off to a great week! xT

  9. Hi enjoy reading your Nine Favorite Things to give me inspiration for the upcoming week’s journey. For Jan 22 your picture with the black pants, belt and black and white sweater — can you let us know the brands. Would be interested in. Thank you

  10. Ohh Cup of Jo is one of my favorite blogs, so it’s fun to see it featured here! That was a fun post.

Little fave that make my daily life easier:

    – The Laneige lip mask. Worth the hype.
    – A travel bag of makeup. I use Sephora samples or buy minis that are always packed in a travel bag. That way, I don’t have to pack up my daily makeup when traveling.
    – Copy Me That app. I use it to save all of my recipes, rate them, make notes or edits, categorize, etc.

    Daily wellness habits:
    – A good night’s sleep, plenty of water, chai, Natural Calm magnesium

    Meals on repeat:
    – How Sweet Eat’s apricot chicken
    – Your chicken chili (it’s SO good)

    1. Hi Hilary,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your responses to the questions:) Love the idea of using samples for traveling with makeup, so smart! Your daily habits are awesome and so glad you have been enjoying the white chicken chili! Have a great week! xT

  11. For Ellie!
Big Sky! Lone mountain has a sleigh ride to dinner! Very Montana thing to do!
Looking for a ski guide?! Curt Sundeen is a friend and has been there for years!
Gray wolf rescue outside of Yellowstone entrance!
    Have a great time!

    1. Hey Lori,
Thanks for reading and sharing these suggestions for Ellie!! Will pass them onto her! Have a great week!! xx

  12. So much interesting stuff here, lots going into my cart today! And so much I could comment on. But I’ll stick to one thing: My two favorite apps to help me stay organized are my journal app, Day One, and my todo app, Things3. Day One is hands down the best journal app ever. I keep a daily diary and then I keep a travel journal, and it’s so easy to record everything in this app. You can even do a voice recording and it will transcribe it to text! Things3 is so simple and yet powerful but it’s Mac only.

    1. Hey Lynn,
Happy Sunday and thanks for reading! Love that you found somethings to add to your cart! Thanks for sharing the apps that you recommend, totally agree with simplicity is key!! xx

  13. Fun posts.

(I believe the YT video link you are using to highlight the film, Break Point on Netflix, is the wrong link.)

  14. 1) The MealBoard app makes my life so much easier. I upload my weekly recipes to it, and then just touch the name of the recipe each day and it uploads to my iPad. I can go between multiple recipes at a time, I can check off steps/ingredients that I have already completed-my husband and children have become obsessed with it, too, when I ask them to help me out with cooking! It literally creates a to-do list that you can cross items off for each recipe so you don’t lose your place of where you were at while cooking. Best app ever!

    2) Beautycounter Products morning and night! Love the Countertime regime and really, love, love, love the Charcoal Mask! Plus drinking lots and lots of water.

    3) Gym 5:00am M-F. Best way to start the day is checking that box that I got my exercise in! Love running/strength training five days a week and love walking on the weekends for movement!

    4) Key Largo for my BFF’s wedding!

    5) YOUR Super Green Sun Dried Tomato Herb Salad with Crispy Chickpeas AND Sheet Pan Sticky Ginger Soy Chicken and Broccoli-your recipes bring joy to my entire family!

    1. Hey Stephanie,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your responses to the Cup of Joe questions! Wow, I’ve never heard of meal board before, but sounds like a super helpful tool for busy families! Water is key! How awesome that you are able to hit the gym at 5:00AM, sounds like you have great motivation! Have the best time in Key Largo, the hot sun sounds great right about now! Thanks for sharing your fave recipes:) Happy Sunday! xx
