Nine Favorite Things
Happy autumn…and happy last Sunday of September!!
Next week October will hit, and man, things will really start to pick up then. It’s crazy because I love this time of year so much, but it’s always so busy and goes so fast. I am really, really thankful we haven’t had any snow yet this season. I know it will come in October, but thus far, September really has been perfect. The weekends have been beautiful and our leaves are just at their peak. A little later than last year, which is so nice!
Other than that, pretty basic week around here. Tying up loose ends on something coming next year. Lots of fall and Halloween themed cooking. I’ve also been online shopping for some new fall clothes. I’m so into the fall styles this year, all the cozy things…and boots!
There’s no easy way to transition into this, but in some more sobering news, my Mimi passed away this week. Mimi was my Dad’s mom. She lived a pretty great, long life, as she was almost 89 years old, which is pretty incredible. She was a tough, tough woman to say the least. We’re heading back to Cleveland on Tuesday for the funeral. This wasn’t a sudden a passing, so we’ve all been prepared. I know she really is in a better place and finally reunited with my Papa after too many years apart. This is comforting for me to think about.
That being said, death if of course, never an easy thing. I’ve said this before, but one of my biggest fears is losing someone close to me. My Mimi’s passing brought up some memories from when my Nonnie passed. And before that my Aunt Katie (this is why my cousins are like siblings). It’s never an easy thing, so I just want to say to anyone who’s ever lost someone close, I hope you’re doing ok. Hang in there and remember to do your best to enjoy the life you have!
And lastly, I sure hope I have some of Mimi’s genes because 89 years feels like a long, well-lived life!
Alrighty, what else? My mom and I did a quick Q&A zoom together for a conference for the National Council For Adoption. Adoption is, of course, near and dear to our hearts. Oslo’s first birthday is coming up on October 11. I think my mom is planning a little get-together while everyone is in Cleveland. So crazy that he’ll be a year old in just a few short weeks. He is such a little boy these days!
Asher has been doing some serious fall shopping and helping me come up with Halloween props for drinks and desserts. And finally, the boys (Kai and Red) are now in Switzerland, which looks so beautiful. I’m a little jealous!
Coming up this week on HBH, we have more autumn recipes! We’ll be starting the week off with something Italian – but made with a fall twist. We’ll then move on to the perfect sweet autumn breakfast. Then a Sunday night dinner to pair with these rolls. And on Friday we’ll finish the week up with our first Halloween recipe of the season. Delicious things coming your way soon!
PS. in case you missed it, I shared my yearly roundup of all the most popular Fall Recipes.

q: How do you make your income since you don’t do many Instagram ads?
a: I’m super picky about the brands I work with and don’t do a lot of sponsored content, but that is an income source for us. Another is the ads you see on HBH. They do really well for us and are a big source of income. My mom (who’s my business partner), has managed the ads on HBH since day one and she’s a pro. Other income sources are cookbook sales and product sales. There are partnerships in the works, but that’s more behind the scenes…at least right now 🙂
q: What leggings were in the fall APL photos?
a: They’re the Alo Lounge Legging. I live in them.
q: Did you make all the floral arrangements in your last Instagram story?
a: I did! But I really don’t know what I’m doing, I just know what I like.
q: Is this a job you want to do for the rest of your life?
a: 100% I’m so excited for the things I have in mind for HBH. There’s so much more to explore and do. I can’t wait to do it with you guys!!
q: do you tend to favor spicy foods?
a: Yes! We love spicy, which is why there are chili flakes in almost every single recipe I share. The spicer the better.
q: What is your favorite fall flower?
a: Dahlias, they’re my favorite late summer/fall flower
q: what is your favorite holiday and family tradition?
a: Christmas with my family, but Halloween and Thanksgiving are runner-ups. I love them all.
My favorite tradition is Christmas Eve with everyone. You never know what’s in store with my family, but I love that ALL of us are together no matter what. We do a big dinner and end with Christmas movies.
q: Cheap, easy dinner for a broke college student?
a: fancy (but not really) ramen. Trust me make this recipe.
q: What’s your favorite part about living in the country?
a: the amount of space, the quietness, the animals, and the fresh air. It’s nothing like the city but it’s magical in its own way (especially this time of year)!
q: You and your sibling’s names are so unique. What was the inspiration?
a: They’re not ALL super unique (Creighton, Trevor, Brendan, Tieghan, Malachi (we call him Kai too), Redmond (we call him Red), Asher, and Oslo. My mom just loves different names (can you guess the one name my dad chose?). I just called her to ask the inspo and she said they all have different stories…there’s 8 of us so I’m not going to go into details because, holy shit ??
q: do you ever feel pressure coming from your parents as business partners?
a: No never. I give myself all the pressure I need. I’m a real pro at that ? but they’re the most supportive, and always encourage all my crazy ideas. I bounce everything off them too so they’re pretty darn great.
q: What Is Clinical products do you recommend?
a: the cleansing complex is my all-time favorite. As is their pro healing serum advance+ which has vitamin C (so I use it in the morning). I also love their hydra-cool serum at night.
q: How about an introduction for those of us who are just now following you?
a: hi! hi!!! I’m Tieghan and I created HBH just after turning 19 and have been working on growing it 24/7 ever since. I cook almost every day. I photograph and video every dish I make. And I LOVE sharing my life with you guys. I live for flowers and candles. Love clothes a little too much…and interior design too (anything I can style and make pretty I love). I live in the mountains in Colorado and my family is big! 6 brothers, 1 little sister, 2 parents + cousin-sibs 🙂
1. Find an apple orchid nearby (here are some in Colorado) and pick all the apples. Then bake these apple doughnuts.
2. Make the home cozy…with so many pumpkins (I have these and they’re really pretty). Loving these cozy throws (this looks like the coziest blanket), pillows, cute wreaths (my favorite and then more affordable), and of course candles.
3. Recreate this front door situation. It’s magical, moody, and festive.
4. Watch all the best Halloween movies…Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and do a Harry Potter movie marathon – I’ll share a list next week. What’s your favorite Halloween movie?
5. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick out all my favorite odd-looking pumpkins. Then do some carving and roast their seeds. Here’s a list of 40 of the best pumpkin farms.
6. Homemade apple cider, apple butter, and apple cider doughnuts. And let’s throw in some pumpkin butter too.
7. Send out a few fall-themed gifts to friends. Love the idea of shipping out a “fall cozy box” with candles, a cute mug (or this one), cookies, and fuzzy socks.
8. Have fall nails for at least a week. Heading to LA soon, and that’s my time.
9. Go for a hike and take in all the fall foliage. Our trees are so pretty right now, I think we have about 1 week left of nice weather.
10. Mixing up spooky cocktails is a must and it’s already happening over here.
11. Fall shopping! Loving this sweater, this cozy coat, and I actually just ordered this plaid shirt.
12. And on that note, splurge on a new pair of fall boots. Or these.
13. Watch reruns of all the autumn Gilmore Girls episodes. Stars Hallow in the fall was my dream place.
14. Watch Freeform’s “31 Nights Of Halloween”. I used to watch this on ABC family when I was a kid. I love that they’re still doing it. I’d eat chocolate chip pancakes by the fire – it was the best.
Questions: What’s on your list for fall. What’s the one thing you want to do most? For me, two things – enjoy this time of year (especially Halloween with Asher). And then (honestly) I want to find some cute fall clothes!
So much inspiration on Pinterest. Loved this article on the 21 best places to see fall foliage in the US. My bucket list spots are anywhere in New York, Franklin Tennessee, and then Aspen (it’s stunning right now).

So sorry to hear about your loss…thinking of you all!
Beautiful & enjoyable post as always xo
Thank you so much Madi, have a great week:) xTieghan
Please accept my most sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mimi. xo
The recipes that call for using an insta pot or slow cooker, can I use a dutch oven on the stove instead? Call me old fashioned but that’s what I prefer to cook with, plus I don’t own an insta pot & even though my husband uses them all the time, I prefer not to cook with a crock pot. Your recipes that call for those pots look SO GOOD & I don’t want to miss out. 🙂
Hi Alane,
Thank you so much for your kind message! Yes, most of the recipes will have instant pot, slow cooker, and stove top instructions listed with them as well. If you ever need the cooking instructions for a specific recipe please feel free to ask! Have a great week! xTieghan
I love Monster House, all the Hotel Transilvania movies and Hubie Halloween that came out last year!
Hey Kristin,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your fave Halloween movies:) Have the best week! xTieghan

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. It’s never easy. Thinking of you and your family.
I’m guessing your dad chose Redmond?
Xx
Hey Kelly-Jane,
Thanks for your kind thoughts:) My dad picked Brendan’s name! Have the best week! xTieghan
I’m sorry about your grandmother. Making the ramen next week! Enjoy your fall color. And you didn’t tell us which name your dad chose. Trevor? Brendan?
Hey Kristin,
Thanks so much for your kind message! Lol my dad chose Brendan’s name:) Have a great week! xTieghan
I am so so very sorry about the loss of your “Mimi”. I find comfort in the wisdom of Tsangyang Gyatso, the 6th Dalai Lama:
“In the short walk of this life
We have had our share of joy.
Let us hope to meet again
In the youth of our next life”
Not much tempers grief. May her memory be a blessing. Deep breaths, burn your favorite candles and tell the stories of your memories with your family. Godspeed dear.
Hi Cari,
Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing these words of wisdom:) I hope you have a wonderful week! xTieghan
Hello T! I’m so sorry about the loss of your MIMI. Loss even expected is still difficult but you have your family and they you to be strong with.
On another note, I wanted you to know that I made the 30 minute Thai Peanut Chicken Ramen this week and my husband asked for a repeat! He is a very picky eater and for him to ask for it to be in our “rotation” of regular favorites was amazing. I did a few adaptations for my “picky” eater. He doesn’t like soups to be too full so I followed the recipe for all of the liquid ingredients and then cut the chicken, mushrooms and pepper by half. That allowed enough broth for us to have ramen a second night.
I really love your posts, IG’s and cookbooks and have even gotten my mom (who we call MIMI) following. Thanks for your inspiration! Now, I’m on to that Maple Apple Butter today!
Hey Bec,
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. I am so glad you and your husband both enjoyed the ramen, it’s a family fave over here as well! Have a wonderful week:) xTieghan
Sorry for the loss of your grandmother. Safe travels. If time allows, come to Medina for our decorated square and Root candles.
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts Beth:) Have a great week! xTieghan

Thank you so much for your kind message and following along Kathleene! Have the best week. xTieghan
hi random question…which cousins are nearly your siblings and why? LOVE all your family
Hi Kamiya,
That would be Maggie, Abby, and Matthew. Their mom passed away 9 years ago, my parents have really taken them in as their own:) xTieghan
Another great blog and stunning fall photos. I am enjoying watching the leaves on the trees change colour here in the UK, so pretty.
If you and Asher like Paris, then have you watched a show on Netflix called Emily in Paris? The second season is out soon.
For October, having already made apple butter and your cider apple doughnuts, I plan to make some pumpkin butter as well as your chai latte cupcakes. It is also slow cooker season so I will be making lots of evening and weekend dinners this way.
I’m also on the lookout for a new pair of boots and a couple of cozy sweaters and as for fall nails, I am also excited about painting mine in colours of the season.
Hope you have a great week 🙂
Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reading along, the changing of the trees is the best! I did add Emily in Paris to my list, just need to watch it still:) Thanks for giving so many recipes a try. Have a great week! xTieghan
