BOO! I’m so excited! I just love these bars! I make these fun, easy peanut butter bars almost every October. We really love them – both their deliciousness and just how fun and easy they are to create.

This is one of those years where I’m really leaning into the fun Halloween recipes. For whatever reason, there are years when I don’t share as many spooky-themed recipes. But this year, I’m loving every minute. It’s an excuse to have fun and just let the kid in me shine. I think we all need to allow the kid in us to shine a little more these days!

Here are the details

As mentioned, these are made using 7 ingredients, so they’re pretty darn easy. In fact, they’re very similar to my mom’s special K-bar recipe, just made in a fun way for Halloween.

You’ll need honey, maple syrup, creamy peanut butter (I prefer to use organic, no sugar added), chocolate, and white chocolate. That’s it, and no added sugar aside from what’s in the chocolate.

To begin with, grab some corn flakes and brown rice krispies. I love the texture, crunch, and chew of these cereals together. Add the corn flakes and brown rice krispies to a bowl along with the creamy peanut butter.

Boil the honey and maple together. I use honey and maple syrup together for added flavor and the best texture. Boil the mix for 2 minutes, then pour it over the bowl full of cereal and peanut butter. Mix everything together until all is evenly coated.

Spread the mix out into a baking dish, then throw it in the fridge while you melt the chocolate.

For the peanut butter, I recommend using an organic, no-sugar-added peanut butter – as in just peanuts and sea salt. No Jiff, or any other kinds of no-stir peanut butter that contains oil and/or sugar. You just want natural peanut butter. This will give you the best flavor and texture. But I mean, of course, if all you have is Jiff or Skippy, it all works!

Melt the chocolate, then pour it over the bars and spread it out in an even layer.

Take the melted white chocolate (use high quality, trust me it makes a difference) and dollop it over the chocolate in teaspoon and tablespoon sizes. Next, use a skinny skewer or the end of a skinny spoon and gently pull the white chocolate down to create a “ghost” shape. Then use mini candy eyes or sprinkles for the eyes.

Then just chill and cut the bars into awkward-shaped.

The secret to success with these bars is to not stress about making them perfect. The more imperfect the spookier they look.

Over the years I’ve learned to love and embrace the “imperfect” look. The awesome thing about Halloween treats is that the more imperfect they look, the better.

It’s all about that messed up, spooky vibe, so embrace the imperfections here. No one ghost should look like another.

You can pack them up and take them to the school Halloween party. Or serve them up at your adult-filled Halloween bash.

Whatever route you go, these ghostly bars will be loved.

Instructions

  • 1. 1. Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
    2. In a large bowl, combine the corn flakes, brown rice krispies, and 1 cup peanut butter.
    3. In a pot, combine the honey and maple syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook 2 minutes, then remove from the heat and pour the mix into the corn flake/peanut butter bowl and stir well. Spread the mixture out into the prepared pan, packing it in tightly. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes.
    4. Meanwhile, melt together the chocolate and 1/4 cup peanut butter in the microwave. Spread the mix over the corn flake mix.
    5. Melt the white chocolate, then spoon a small dollop (1 teaspoon for small ghosts and 1 tablespoon for large ghosts) of white chocolate onto the chocolate, making sure each ghost is 1 inch apart from the other. Using a wooden skewer or the end of a skinny spoon, gently drag the white chocolate into a ghost shape, don't worry about making these perfect, the more imperfect they look, the better.
    6. Insert 2 mini candy eyes. Return to the fridge to set, about 15 minutes, cut around the ghost, creating irregular shapes. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve. BOO!

  1. Hi there! If I wanted to sub raw sugar for the honey + syrup what measurements would you suggest? Any added water if I go this route? Thanks!! 👻

  2. There is something so exciting and different about these bars being cut into not-squares. They look delicious, but the asymmetrical appearance makes them even more appealing for a spooky recipe!

I couldn’t find brown rice Krispies so I just used regular. But these were a hit with everyone that tired them. So delicious and easy, will definitely be making again (just with different designs to fit the time of year or occasion).

  4. In the video, it looks like you melted the peanut butter in the pan with the syrup and honey, which is a lot better than trying to mix 1 cup of PB into those cereals, which was very hard to do. Is that what I am seeing? I made them but the peanut butter was hard to mix in, so I was going to microwave it next time, but I like seeing that I can add it to the pan with the syrup and honey.

    1. Hi Nancy,
Yes, you could do that if your peanut butter is on the thicker side! I hope this helps for next time! xT

Very easy and delicious! They were a hit at our Halloween party. Mine aren’t as cute as yours, but that’s ok!

Love these! So delicious. My son and I had a fun time making these. They turned out so well! I really love watching the video. So helpful! Thank you!

I got rave reviews making these and they turned out super adorable! However, I wanted to know if that is the right amount of honey? They turned out pretty syrupy and drippy and the honey flavor is pretty overpowering which kind of minimized the peanut butter coming through so wanted to make sure that is the correct texture of the finished product.

    1. Hey Nicole,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe!! Yes, all of the measurements are correct:) These should be pretty sticky! I hope that helps! xT

I made these for a Halloween party last night and they were a huge hit. Everyone loved them! So easy and so yummy

    1. Hi Emmeline,
Happy Monday! 👻 I am thrilled to hear that this recipe was a winner, thanks so much for making it! Happy Halloween! 🎃

I was looking forward to making this for a Halloween party. However, I was disappointed in its overall flavor. The honey was overpowering and made it way too sweet. Next time I’d do half (or less) the amount of honey the recipe suggests. I will say the ghosts were super easy and a cute touch!

    1. Hi Brooke,
Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback, so sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! xT

  10. These were delicious! I think next time I might make the chocolate layer thicker by doubling that part. ghosts are sooo cute.

    1. Hey Shauna,
Happy Sunday! 🎃 So glad to hear that this recipe was a hit, thanks a lot for making it and sharing your feedback! xx

  11. I look forward to trying these this weekend. Funny, when I went to the store last night, I looked at the recipe and saw “brown rice krispies” and thought…what are those?! I thought maybe she means the cocoa krispies, so I bought a box of those, but now I see there is such a thing. I think I won’t worry about trying to find those now and just use the regular ones. I am also very curious what they would taste like with the cocoa krispies! 😉

    1. Thanks Nancy! Lol oops! I bet the cocoa Rice Krispies would also be delicious! Let me know if you give the recipe a try! xx

  12. Hello! These are so cute, do you think melted marshmallow would work to make the ghosts instead of white chocolate? Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much Emily! The melted marshmallows would be great to make spiders webs with! They will be a little tricky to make the ghosts with. Let me know if you give the recipe a try! xT

    1. Hi MJ,
Sure, I don’t see why not! I hope this recipe turns out amazing for you, please let me know if you give it a try! 👻

So easy and delicious. My grocery didn’t have the eyes so I just used extra of dark chocolate to make eyes and mouth. Turned out pretty spooky—although my ghosts weren’t nearly as perfect as yours!

      1. I’m making these today.
Do we wait til the 15 minutes is over before we add the melted chocolate ?
        Thanks !!

      2. I am going to make these this weekend for a Halloween party! Can I make them the evening before and store in the fridge, or is it better to make and serve the day of? Thank you!!
