BOO! Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars. You don’t need to be a professional baker to make these deliciously easy homemade Halloween treats. These spooky bars require no oven time, just 7 ingredients, are made without processed sugar, and take almost no effort to make. They’re fun to make no matter your age and you really can’t mess them up!
BOO! I’m so excited! I just love these bars! I make these fun, easy peanut butter bars almost every October. We really love them – both their deliciousness and just how fun and easy they are to create.
This is one of those years where I’m really leaning into the fun Halloween recipes. For whatever reason, there are years when I don’t share as many spooky-themed recipes. But this year, I’m loving every minute. It’s an excuse to have fun and just let the kid in me shine. I think we all need to allow the kid in us to shine a little more these days!
As mentioned, these are made using 7 ingredients, so they’re pretty darn easy. In fact, they’re very similar to my mom’s special K-bar recipe, just made in a fun way for Halloween.
You’ll need honey, maple syrup, creamy peanut butter (I prefer to use organic, no sugar added), chocolate, and white chocolate. That’s it, and no added sugar aside from what’s in the chocolate.
To begin with, grab some corn flakes and brown rice krispies. I love the texture, crunch, and chew of these cereals together. Add the corn flakes and brown rice krispies to a bowl along with the creamy peanut butter.
Boil the honey and maple together. I use honey and maple syrup together for added flavor and the best texture. Boil the mix for 2 minutes, then pour it over the bowl full of cereal and peanut butter. Mix everything together until all is evenly coated.
Spread the mix out into a baking dish, then throw it in the fridge while you melt the chocolate.
For the peanut butter, I recommend using an organic, no-sugar-added peanut butter – as in just peanuts and sea salt. No Jiff, or any other kinds of no-stir peanut butter that contains oil and/or sugar. You just want natural peanut butter. This will give you the best flavor and texture. But I mean, of course, if all you have is Jiff or Skippy, it all works!
Melt the chocolate, then pour it over the bars and spread it out in an even layer.
Take the melted white chocolate (use high quality, trust me it makes a difference) and dollop it over the chocolate in teaspoon and tablespoon sizes. Next, use a skinny skewer or the end of a skinny spoon and gently pull the white chocolate down to create a “ghost” shape. Then use mini candy eyes or sprinkles for the eyes.
Then just chill and cut the bars into awkward-shaped.
The secret to success with these bars is to not stress about making them perfect. The more imperfect the spookier they look.
Over the years I’ve learned to love and embrace the “imperfect” look. The awesome thing about Halloween treats is that the more imperfect they look, the better.
It’s all about that messed up, spooky vibe, so embrace the imperfections here. No one ghost should look like another.
You can pack them up and take them to the school Halloween party. Or serve them up at your adult-filled Halloween bash.
Whatever route you go, these ghostly bars will be loved.

These turned out perfectly for me! I did do a pretty intense boil for the honey/maple syrup, and had no issues with the amount of liquid. They firmed up great in the fridge, excellent flavor, and the ghosts are so cute. I think I made my ghosts a little bit too big, because they were hard to cut around, but that’s okay. 🙂 Also used chocolate chips instead of candy eyes because the grocery store was out.
Hey Veronica,
Amazing!! Love to hear that this recipe was a hit, thanks so much for making it:) Happy Monday!! xx
Followed the recipe exactly as written! These turned out SO good and even cuter. I could see that if you don’t allow your honey and syrup to boil for those 2 mins how it would mess the cereal part up a bit. Definitely give these a try!
Hey Sarah,
Happy Monday!! 👻 I am so glad this recipe was tasty for you, thanks a lot for trying it out! xT
I also had trouble with too much liquid. Followed the recipe to a T. The cereal layer just fell apart. I would recommend adding the ghosts after the chocolate has set as they ran together a bit (although that could my perfectionism showing).
Love your stuff! Keep it coming.
Thanks so much for trying the recipe Mary!! All of the measurements are correct for the ingredients, so I’m not sure why there is so much liquid. Maybe it looks that way at first, but you really want to have some moisture so these don’t dry out:) xx
We tried these today! Yumm! They turned out great and were so cute for the season. We shared a few with our neighbors and they loved them as well!
Hi Laura,
Happy Sunday!!🎃 I am delighted to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for making it and sharing your feedback! xx
These are hilarious. I love the faces that emerged! Awesome job.
Lol thanks so much Kiersten!!
These were easy to make – my 12 year old did most of the work. They were also ADORABLE and delicious. thank you!
Hi Julie,
Happy Friday!! I am thrilled to hear that this recipe was a winner, thanks a bunch for making it! 👻
I made these yesterday. My son has such a sweet tooth but he didn’t like these. He said they were too sweet and he didn’t like the maple syrup flavor.
I’m not sure what could be used besides that. Maybe just use the honey alone. The ratio of honey/syrup to cereal seemed off. I used 2 more cups of cereal and there was still so much liquid. After putting in the fridge for the whole day they were so sticky and stringy that they were just a mess to eat.
I love the concept but feel it needs more tweaking.
Hi Bobbi,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback. Was there anything you adjusted in the recipe? Did you allow the honey and maple syrup to boil for 2 minutes? Did you allow the bars to set before adding more cereal? I’ve been making these for a very long time, so they are a tried and true recipe for me. Let me know how I can help! xx
I really wanted to love these, but I found the recipe needed quite a bit of tweaking. Not sure if this was something I did but I’ll post in case it’s helpful to anyone.
– The bars were extremely sweet, and there was far too much of the honey/maple syrup than cereal to absorb.
– I added two extra cups of cereal. I realize the sweetness level is personal, but there was just a ton of syrup compared to the amount of cereal before I added the extra.
– In a 9×13 pan, the bars were quite thin/flat, especially as the recipe instructs to pack them down. I would use a 9×9 square pan next time for a thicker bar.
– I sprinkled salt on top to offset the sweetness (again, personal taste).
Definitely store these in the fridge as they fall apart otherwise!
Hi Cath,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback! Sorry to hear you didn’t love them. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help with! xT
I LOVE this ghost decoration idea, so I used it on brownies with chocolate frosting. I just had to share that people were really impressed with how adorable they turned out. I love baking, but I’m not the most precise or talented when it comes to decorating, and these turned out really great. Thank you so much for the inspiration; I’ve made dozens of your recipes, and they always turn out amazing!
P.S. I can’t believe people are cursing at each other and name calling on a recipe for cute little ghost bars. Thank you for giving your readers content despite the challenges that come with blogging and social media.

Delicious treat that can be made in a kitchen under construction! In the midst of kitchen redo, so this recipe came together on a small table with a portable burner unit.

Can these be frozen?
Hey Laura,
Sure, you could freeze these! Let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love the recipe! xT
Hey Tieghan- hate to ask this but I really have no clue-wanted to take these to a gathering and there is a peanut allergy-do you have a sense of almond butter would still taste good or make something different all together? Thank you!
Hey Elizabeth,
No worries, you could totally use another nut butter or even sunflower seed butter would be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love this recipe! xT
If one were to not be in possession of natural PB, but rather a variety like Kraft or Jif, would one alter the recipe at all? Ie. lessen the maple/honey, or warm the PB to help thin it, maybe in with the heated sweet mixture? Thanks for your help!
Hey Rachael,
Nope, you can just follow the recipe as is with whatever peanut butter you choose to use:) Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love the recipe! xT
Can regular rice krispies be used if brown are unavailable? Unable to figure out the difference. Thanks!
I used regular rice krispees. Was delicious!
Thanks so much Lisa!!
Hey Tara,
Totally, regular Rice Krispies will also work well for you! I hope this recipe turns out amazing, please let me know if you give it a try! xT
