Upgrading the classic Moscow Mule to this Spicy Pomegranate Moscow Mule. Vodka mixed with fresh lime juice, a squeeze of grapefruit juice, pomegranate juice, spicy jalapeños, and topped off with ginger beer…for a touch of sweetness and a little bit of bubbly! It’s both festive and warming, perfect for holiday parties and cold winter nights.

It’s very rare that one of my brothers inspires a recipe, but if there was ever a recipe they could lend a helping hand in creating, it’s a cocktail.

They love a good drink, especially during our family’s Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. In between the cooking, you can usually find me mixing up cocktails, one by one, because everyone has their own preferences. And I always aim to please…it can be both a good and bad thing, but it’s what I do.

Over Thanksgiving there was a request for a spicy Moscow Mule. The second I heard the word spicy, I knew we had a new holiday cocktail that had to be made. I don’t know why I never thought to make a spicy Mule. But I’m so excited that the boys asked me, because this is one of those drinks that I’ll be making time and time again.

It’s so easy to make and loved by all!

Here are the details.

Grab some vodka, limes, grapefruit, pomegranate juice, and jalapeños. Shake it all up to infuse everything with the heat from the jalapeños. Strain into your favorite Mule mug and top off with ginger beer. The ginger beer is KEY. To me, it’s what makes a good Moscow Mule.

You may notice that I used both lime juice and grapefruit juice, which is not traditional, but SO good. I love the double citrus action. And since the grapefruits are always so good this time of year, I love mixing them into as many cocktails as possible.

Also, you can make this as spicy or non-spicy as you’d like by simply adjusting the amount of jalapeños. I found that 2 slices (with seeds in) was the perfect amount per drink.

Since so many of us are entertaining this time of year I gave the recipe for both a single serve drink and a pitcher. Which can easily be doubled if needed.

Tip? Keep fresh citrus, jalapeños, pomegranate juice, ginger beer, and an assortment of alcohol on hand during the holidays. You never know when you’re going to need to mix up a cocktail. As long as you have these pantry ingredients, you’ll always be able to make a great drink.
