15 Minute Soy Sauce Butter Fried Rice, the crazy easy dish that’s one of our favorite easy dinners. Stir fried rice in the simplest mix of soy sauce, chili flakes, and butter (the real secret). Mix in bright green broccoli and green onions for color. This fast and easy fried rice can be made and ready in less than 15 minutes making it perfect for busy days.
Look, I know this recipe might look and sound pretty basic, but please don’t knock it till you try it. It’s one of our current favorites. And let me just say that for Asher and my mom, this is an every few days kind of recipe. It’s very much their kind of meal.
Here’s the story…everyone from Creighton on down (yes all of my brothers), Asher, and my mom adore fried rice. It’s a dinner they’ll enjoy multiple times a week. When the boys are here, I have to go heavy on the chicken, but either way, everyone loves it.
They all felt it was odd that I didn’t have a recipe for basic fried rice on the site for you guys. But I didn’t just want to share a recipe you could easily find elsewhere.
Their response was, but yours is so good, people would really enjoy it…isn’t that the idea? The funny thing is that it’s the most basic, simple, straightforward fried rice. Literally nothing to it, but the outcome is pure comfort food and totally delicious.
It’s all about how and what you fry the rice in. I use a mix of tamari (you can obviously use soy sauce, but I prefer tamari), honey, and butter.
But the butter is the real secret.
I mix a little tamari, with a tiny amount of honey, and a good pinch of chili flakes. You can use the chili flakes to taste.
Then, cook the eggs until they are just set. You don’t want them to be fully cooked. Underdone and still wet is the key. Then add in the rice and plenty of broccoli. I often mix up the vegetables using peppers, carrots, cabbage – really whatever I have on hand, but broccoli is the family favorite.
Then stir in plenty of butter. You want to cook the rice in the butter until the rice is fully coated. You’re basically frying the rice in butter.
Add the tamari mix and green onions, then finish cooking. You want the sauce to stick to the rice and help the rice get crisp.
Serve it while it’s steaming hot with green onions and chili flakes on top.
Keep it simple, that’s the beauty of this recipe. Let the flavors of the butter, sauce, and chili flakes really come through.
Of course, if you want to make this a little heartier, you can add cooked chicken or shrimp. This rice would be delicious with either one…or do both!
My favorite way to serve this fried rice is with my cheese Rangoons. Together they make the perfect dinner!

A quick, easy, abundant and flavorful fried rice. Made to reheat for lunch throughout the week, it does not disappoint. I was not sure the sauce would be enough flavor and it would be on the dry side. Not the case at all. And as with any fried rice, always fun to customize and add any veggies you have on hand. Will continue to make.

Hi Angela,
Happy Wednesday! I love to hear that this recipe was tasty, thanks for making it! xxT
It was so good. I used cauliflower rice to lower the carb count so it may have changed the texture a little but had a great taste. Another good recipe Ms Teighan
thank you
Hi Donna,
Happy Friday!? Thanks a lot for trying this recipe out, I love to hear that it was a winner! xx
You are right!! Was sooo good! The butter was key! I loved the honey in the soy sauce to. I made it in a cast iron skillet so the rice crisped nicely in spots and the egg kind of caramelized with the butter on edges. Really really good! And so quick and easy! Oh and I did add a bit of siracha on top because we like spice. ?
Hey Carey,
Happy Sunday!! Thanks so much for making this recipe, I am so glad it was a hit! xTieghan
This is so yummy! I used leftover rice from a different dish, and added bacon, a dash of fish sauce, some grated ginger because I had it in the fridge. The perfect mix of savory and spice. Can’t wait to make it for friends and family.

I love pineapple fried rice. Would pineapple be a good addition?
Sure, pineapple would be great! Let me know how the recipe turns out Lena!!
I had a hard time getting my rice crispy. Any tips for that? I added more soy sauce and butter to see if that would help and turned the heat on high at the end. I also read in other recipes that it’s best to chill rice before frying, so I did that to the best of my ability with the time I had. It was probably a little cooler than room temp by the time I fried it. The rice was sticking to the pan quite a bit so maybe I need to use a different one next time?
With that being said, this recipe was delicious and had all the right flavors of fried rice. I added carrots and peas as well as 1/2 tsp of toasted sesame oil. Will definitely make it again!

Hey Tanya,
Awesome!! Love to hear that this recipe was a hit, thanks for making it and sharing your feedback!! 🙂
I tried this last night, but did make a couple of minor changes in cooking. Since it was only me and I had less than 2 cups of brown rice, I used lots of vege – some broccolini and leftover frozen peas. I actually cooked the vegetables first to be sure they were the texture I wanted without overcooking everything – I added them back with the sauce. This will definitely stay in my rotation!
Thank you
