To be honest, anything made in the microwave doesn’t really excite me much. I know it can be a great tool, but I definitely prefer the oven or stove top, you know?

But my gosh, it’s summer and we’ve entered into the month of August which can be one of the warmest months of the year. Turning the oven on isn’t always the best idea, especially for those of us with smaller homes!

After a lot of requests for no-oven recipes, the idea of a peach mug cake brewed in my head. I’ve made chocolate mug cakes, and even banana mug cakes, but never something peachy!

It sounded kind of fun, so I went for it, and here we are! These personal-sized cakes turned out so great!

Here are the details

I wanted the cakes to have a great peach flavor and plenty of fresh juicy peaches. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to create more of a cake or a crisp, so I made a combination of them both.

Start with the peaches. I used about 1/2 a peach per cake, but you can use more too! First, arrange a few peach slices in the bottom of a mug. Add a sprinkle of brown sugar and a small pat of butter. Throw this in the microwave for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, mix up the batter. Melted butter, brown sugar (though I sometimes use honey), vanilla, and an egg. Then whole wheat flour, oats, and a small pinch of baking powder + salt!

The oats add a nice crisp-like texture to these buttery peach mug cakes.

What I do is spoon the batter over the peaches, then place more peaches on the top with a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon. Add a pat of butter and put the mug in the microwave.

As the cake cooks, the peaches on top get a little caramelized from the brown sugar and the butter helps to create just the right amount of sauce.

It’s really so delicious!

Keys to success

Eat this warm, right after cooking. This isn’t a cake you want to eat leftover, it’s meant as a quick fix. So eat it right away, preferably with ice cream on top. Trust me, delish!

Every microwave is different, so the cooking time is a little tricky. That said, I tested this on two different microwaves and found two minutes to be just the right amount of time. You may need to adjust slightly by fifteen seconds, give or take.

This is the best afternoon pick-me-up, warm after-dinner dessert, or late-night snack with a side of TV watching.

Plus, a really good way to enjoy our summertime peaches!

This recipe is so good ?. We didn’t have vanilla ice cream so we used whipped cream and it melted into the cake. So yummy ?. We will make it again soon!

Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, so sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! Please let me know if there is anything that I can help with! xT

Made this and it was absolutely delish! I subbed a splash of milk for the egg and the texture was great – the oats gave it a good bite but it wasn’t too dense. I used the biggest mug I had (about 13 oz) and it was perfect, no spillage. My favorite part was the top/bottom peach/butter/brown sugar mixture! It was sooo good and the butter and brown sugar cooked into an almost caramel like texture. HBH’s banana mug cake was a top recipe for me, and this one is even better!!

    1. Hey Kelsey,

Not a winner…made this for me and my husband and had similar results. I only cooked it for 1 minute and it was still extremely dense and inedible. The cooked peaches tasted nice!

    1. Hi Lexy,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try and sharing your feedback, sorry to hear it wasn’t enjoyed! xTieghan

  4. Similar to the other comments, my cake was sooo dense and dry it was hard to eat. I use a huge mug so no spill over, but I had to drench it in cream because it was so dry. I only put it in my very weak microwave for 1 minute so I don’t think I overcooked it. I also accidentally added too much butter in the bottom so that should have helped. The oats I used were instant oats and they were completely raw and hard. Sorry Tieghan, zero gooey for me on this one either.

    1. Hi Ang,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try, sorry to hear it was not enjoyed. The instant oats were your issue here, the recipe calls for old fashioned oats, they cook completely differently. I hope this helps! xTieghan

  5. I made this for me & the hubby. I am not sure what I did wrong…it was very dry. I think my cup choice may have been too small as well. It spilled all over the microwave ?
I want to try again…any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Tammie,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, sorry to hear you had some issues. Sounds like you just needed to use a larger mug! xTieghan

        Hi Tieghan,

I really want to make this but um…I no longer have a microwave. When ours died we decided we’d rather have an espresso machine. #priorities

If I were to try baking this in the oven, what would you recommend?

        1. Hey Jessica,
LOL totally get it!! To Oven Bake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 2 cup oven safe ramekin/mug or 2 muffin tins. Add the batter and bake 22-25 minutes. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx

I used 12 oz mugs (I measured!) but the liquid from the peach juice and butter overflowed all over my microwave tray when the dense “cake” expanded and pushed it out. We did eat what was left in the mug, and it did taste pretty good, but it really could have used the liquid that was lost.

    1. Hi Amy,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, sorry to hear you had some issues, just use a larger mug next time:) xTieghan

I made these with my two year old daughter this weekend and found them very easy to do. The cake portion was a bit spongy, but overall enjoyed something personalized. I reduced the sugar at the end.

      1. Hey there,
Thanks so much for making this dessert and sharing your feedback! I’m glad it was enjoyed overall:) xT

    2. Hi Helen,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, so glad you enjoyed the flavor! My guess is that it just needed less time in the microwave. I hope this helps for next time! xx

The flavors were great. My mug is thicker and I wonder if that contributes to the cooking. My cake was also very dense until I added the ice cream. Then it instantly became soft and easy to eat. Will try in oven if we get a cooler night soon.

    1. Hey Fern,
Thanks so much for making this recipe and sharing your feedback, let me know if you give it another try! xTieghan

Sooo perfect and delicious! I see some reviewers have had issues with the egg overcooking, also I just ran out of eggs, so I used 1/4 cup applesauce as my replacement, which is an ingredient used in one of my favourite mug cake recipes and keeps it ooey gooey. It smelled so good I didn’t want to wait for this to cool down haha and have got another in the microwave already! At this rate I might as well make a full sized cobbler ?

    1. 3 stars
Similar to other reviews, the peach part is delicious. I used half the sugar and it was plenty sweet so need to use it all. However, the cake texture is bad. Very dense and chewy. Tieghan, can you please provide more info about maybe the mug you used? Not sure why else others are not getting the same results as you. I microwaved the recommended time. Maybe changing the microwave timing instructions to stop at 1 min to check and add more time if needed? Thanks! Would love to find the ‘fix’ to make it 5 stars!

      1. Hi Maddie,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try and sharing your feedback. It’s not the mug, it’s the microwave. I do specifically note “Every microwave is different, so the cooking time is a little tricky. That said, I tested this on two different microwaves and found two minutes to be just the right amount of time. You may need to adjust slightly by fifteen seconds, give or take.” I hope this helps for next time! xTieghan

I was hoping the previous reviewers were wrong, but they were right – This recipe was a disappointment. 🙁 I would not recommend making it. The “cobbler” part comes out like a brick and I followed the directions to a T. Not sure how you’d get this dish goey. I’d def recommend using an oven on this one.

    1. Hi Ally,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try. Sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! My guess is that you may have microwaved it for too long. Happy Sunday! xx

I can see that everyone is having the same problem with this mug cake. Flavor is great but the texture of the cake is not good. It’s too dense and dry. I might have overbaked it a tad but at the 2 minute mark it did not look done so maybe I’ll give it another go or I may substitute the egg for apple sauce like one of the other reviewers suggested.

        1. Hi Ines,
Thanks for your feedback, the mug can cake be tricky due to the difference in microwaves. I do specifically note: Every microwave is different, so the cooking time is a little tricky. That said, I tested this on two different microwaves and found two minutes to be just the right amount of time. You may need to adjust slightly by fifteen seconds, give or take. xTieghan

    1. Hi Shreya,
Sorry to hear this recipe was not enjoyed, what do you mean just the egg overcooked? Let me know how I can help! xTieghan

      1. Thanks for sharing the recipe. The egg tasted almost scrambled in the cake, with a very distinct flavor. Maybe two minutes was too long in my microwave.

  10. 5 stars
So delicious and super easy to make! I used a small mixing bowl instead of a mug. Our mugs weren’t large enough. The cobbler turned out perfectly. Next time I may use less brown sugar. The peach was sweet enough.

    1. Hey Samantha,
Awesome!! I love to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for making it! Have the best weekend! xxT

Nice easy treat to whip up. Mine turned out soft and cake like texture so not as tasty as a full fledged crispy cobbler but definitely worth it when you have a craving!

Honestly, bloggers just need to stop trying to make microwave mug cakes happen. The warm sugary peaches were delish. The cake was sponges, weirdly textured brick. And I only cooked it 1 minute, a full minute less than recommended.
