To be honest, anything made in the microwave doesn’t really excite me much. I know it can be a great tool, but I definitely prefer the oven or stove top, you know?

But my gosh, it’s summer and we’ve entered into the month of August which can be one of the warmest months of the year. Turning the oven on isn’t always the best idea, especially for those of us with smaller homes!

After a lot of requests for no-oven recipes, the idea of a peach mug cake brewed in my head. I’ve made chocolate mug cakes, and even banana mug cakes, but never something peachy!

It sounded kind of fun, so I went for it, and here we are! These personal-sized cakes turned out so great!

Here are the details

I wanted the cakes to have a great peach flavor and plenty of fresh juicy peaches. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to create more of a cake or a crisp, so I made a combination of them both.

Start with the peaches. I used about 1/2 a peach per cake, but you can use more too! First, arrange a few peach slices in the bottom of a mug. Add a sprinkle of brown sugar and a small pat of butter. Throw this in the microwave for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, mix up the batter. Melted butter, brown sugar (though I sometimes use honey), vanilla, and an egg. Then whole wheat flour, oats, and a small pinch of baking powder + salt!

The oats add a nice crisp-like texture to these buttery peach mug cakes.

What I do is spoon the batter over the peaches, then place more peaches on the top with a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon. Add a pat of butter and put the mug in the microwave.

As the cake cooks, the peaches on top get a little caramelized from the brown sugar and the butter helps to create just the right amount of sauce.

It’s really so delicious!

Keys to success

Eat this warm, right after cooking. This isn’t a cake you want to eat leftover, it’s meant as a quick fix. So eat it right away, preferably with ice cream on top. Trust me, delish!

Every microwave is different, so the cooking time is a little tricky. That said, I tested this on two different microwaves and found two minutes to be just the right amount of time. You may need to adjust slightly by fifteen seconds, give or take.

This is the best afternoon pick-me-up, warm after-dinner dessert, or late-night snack with a side of TV watching.

Plus, a really good way to enjoy our summertime peaches!

    1. Hey Susie,
Sure, you could use an equal amount of gluten free flour, that should work well for you! I hope you love this recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xx

  1. Cake for breakfast, why not?! This was a delicious way to start the day this morning. Based on the previous comments, I went easy on the microwaving time, going in 30-second increments until I declared my creation done. Thanks, Tieghan!

I had two peaches to use, so I tripled the recipe and baked in a buttered 8×8 glass dish for 35 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees. After removing from oven, I covered the dish with foil and allowed to sit and cool on my counter for 10 minutes. Then, we enjoyed, and it was delicious! We’ll make it again! Thanks!

  3. Oh my, but this reads so fantastic….Would love to know your thoughts on how long to microwave, if making 2 at one time. And by the way, I note that very often, you respond to people’s comments….you are gold for having this quality!

    1. Hi Jeff,
I wouldn’t do 2 at a time, just do them 1 at a time for best results:) I hope you love the recipe! xTieghan

    Hi Tieghan,

Thanks for this quick and easy recipe. Turned out just as expected…delicious and gooey! I used organic Palisade peaches from Uncle John’s in Frisco. ? ? ?

    1. Hi Beth,
To Oven Bake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 2 cup oven safe ramekin/mug or 2 muffin tins. Add the batter and bake 22-25 minutes. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx

  5. I’ve changed the recipe a bit (apricot instead of peach, oat meal flour instead of all-purpose flour, mixed spices instead of cinnamon, olive oil for the batter). But I’ve kept the ratio of the ingredients. I paired it with walnut ice cream, and it was so delicious. Thanks!

    1. Hey there,

Made this for my family & agree that I would rather use a stove or oven. Unfortunately they didn’t like it. The the batter came out really dense so they just picked out the brown sugar peaches & at them on their own.

    1. Hi Tracy,
Thanks so for giving the recipe a try and sharing your feedback, sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! xxT

Wow- who knew the microwave could make such a delicious cake?! The brown sugar, cinnamon, and buttery flavors mixed with the peaches was so good! I cooked for 2 minutes and the texture was perfect- almost like bread pudding. I will definitely be making this easy dessert again! Thanks Tieghan!

Definitely prefer my peach cobbler recipe but if I had one peach and wanted to make a dessert with it, I wouldn’t hesitate. Based on the previous reviews I added a tablespoon of milk to the batter. It came out spongy and that could have been why. I used a whole peach. Along with some ice cream it was plenty for two.

    1. Hi Toni,
Thanks for making the recipe and sharing your review, sorry to hear you didn’t love the cake! xTieghan

I love your recipes but this was not a favorite. I was expecting gooey because of the name of the recipe and it was a very dense cake with little flavor.

    1. Hey Alexis,
Thanks so much for making this recipe and sharing your feedback, so sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! xx

    1. Hey Susan,
Happy Monday!! I really appreciate you trying this recipe out, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Have a great week:)

  10. I join those who commented that prepared per the recipe, it is NOT gooey. It is dense and more like a biscuit. I should have known based on the minimal liquid in the batter. IF I made this again (and there were certainly aspects that I really liked), I would add a tablespoon or so of milk (non-dairy or dairy) and potentially a flavorless oil to the batter. It was great to have a quick peach dessert, but definitely not a gooey mug cake.

    1. Hi Valerie,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, sorry to hear it wasn’t enjoyed. My guess is that it was in the microwave for too long, every microwave is different so the timing can be tricky. Next time I would just do 1 minute and 30 seconds:) xTieghan

The smells is unbeatable while this cooks! Mine turned out a little spongey & I might use unsalted butter for the last pat on top next time because it was a little disorienting to get a salty/cakey bite at first. However, for something so easy to make, I think it turned out really yummy!

    1. Hey Erica,
Happy Sunday! I am so glad to hear this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a bunch for making it:) Thanks for sharing your feedback!?

The cake texture was spongy and this is not one I would make again. I’d rather spend the time making a real peach ? crisp.
