To be honest, anything made in the microwave doesn’t really excite me much. I know it can be a great tool, but I definitely prefer the oven or stove top, you know?

But my gosh, it’s summer and we’ve entered into the month of August which can be one of the warmest months of the year. Turning the oven on isn’t always the best idea, especially for those of us with smaller homes!

After a lot of requests for no-oven recipes, the idea of a peach mug cake brewed in my head. I’ve made chocolate mug cakes, and even banana mug cakes, but never something peachy!

It sounded kind of fun, so I went for it, and here we are! These personal-sized cakes turned out so great!

Here are the details

I wanted the cakes to have a great peach flavor and plenty of fresh juicy peaches. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to create more of a cake or a crisp, so I made a combination of them both.

Start with the peaches. I used about 1/2 a peach per cake, but you can use more too! First, arrange a few peach slices in the bottom of a mug. Add a sprinkle of brown sugar and a small pat of butter. Throw this in the microwave for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, mix up the batter. Melted butter, brown sugar (though I sometimes use honey), vanilla, and an egg. Then whole wheat flour, oats, and a small pinch of baking powder + salt!

The oats add a nice crisp-like texture to these buttery peach mug cakes.

What I do is spoon the batter over the peaches, then place more peaches on the top with a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon. Add a pat of butter and put the mug in the microwave.

As the cake cooks, the peaches on top get a little caramelized from the brown sugar and the butter helps to create just the right amount of sauce.

It’s really so delicious!

Keys to success

Eat this warm, right after cooking. This isn’t a cake you want to eat leftover, it’s meant as a quick fix. So eat it right away, preferably with ice cream on top. Trust me, delish!

Every microwave is different, so the cooking time is a little tricky. That said, I tested this on two different microwaves and found two minutes to be just the right amount of time. You may need to adjust slightly by fifteen seconds, give or take.

This is the best afternoon pick-me-up, warm after-dinner dessert, or late-night snack with a side of TV watching.

Plus, a really good way to enjoy our summertime peaches!

I cooked/baked for two minutes and the result was a very dry cake. Happy I gave it a try and ate the peaches on the top and bottom, but I didn’t like the cake. Admittedly I didn’t have ice cream but I don’t think it would have helped. This is the only hbh recipe I’ve tried and not liked.

    1. Hi Vicki,

Very disappointing. Way too much butter- an oily mess! I usually have so much success with HBH recipes but this was a disaster.

This was delicious! Everything Tieghan creates is wonderful, but this is the perfect late night treat with ingredients already in your kitchen – love it!

Not worth the time & ingredients it takes to make this. The cake part was eggy dry and just not very good. Ate my peaches out of it and that’s it 🙁 disappointed

      1. Thanks so much Barbara!! We just share the estimated calorie count. Unfortunately, the calculator that we have to use is provided by Google and not our favorite! xx

  5. Is there an oven alternative for making this? I don’t and won’t ever own (or use) a microwave, but definitely want to make some peach cakes.

    1. Hi Lindsay,
To oven bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 2 cup oven safe ramekin/mug or 2 muffin tins. Add the batter and bake 22-25 minutes. Please let me know if you give this recipe a try, I hope you love it! xTieghan

Wanted to love this because I love peaches. But it was doughy and dry. The peaches tasted great so I took out most of the dough. Usually love your recipes but maybe the microwave cooking just wasn’t it for me.

    1. Hi Felisa,
Thanks so much for making this recipe and sharing your feedback. Sorry to hear it wasn’t enjoyed! xx

I wanted to love this, but there was too much dough and it was tough! At almost 2 minutes mine was overcooked, maybe it was microwave??? Either way I ate around the “cake” because the peaches were delicious and threw the rest out!

    1. Hi Gazelle,
Thanks for trying the recipe, so sorry it was not enjoyed. My guess is 2 minutes was too long in your microwave! xTieghan

This turned out awful! Had to throw it away. It was a tuff glob of tasteless peaches. Overflowed all over the microwave!

I thought this was really good! I didn’t have oats, so I just did without. I cooked for 2 minutes and dug my fork in to make sure it was done. Mixing up the brown sugar butter mix helped. But I’d definitely make this again for a quick sweet treat!

If I wanted to convert this to an oven baked recipe, to feed the whole family, how long do you think I should bake it? I’m thinking recipe x4 in an 8×8.

This was not good. Very dry, thank goodness for the vanilla ice cream.
And I used too many dishes etc., to make it. Very disappointing.

It’s okay, but not great and not worth all the steps it takes to make 🙁 The flavour is meh and the cake is dense and dry as others have said. Mine was nowhere near done at 2 minutes, both visually and via thermometer (I don’t eat undercooked eggs). I appreciate the time you put into sharing the recipes, this one is just a pass for me.

Love love loved this! I backed off a little on the sugar and I made sure to only cook it for 2mins 45 sec, because any more and it turns too dense. I’ve got it dialed in! My S/O loves it, too!! The vanilla ice cream really takes it to the next level!! Thank you!! ?

    1. Hey Diandra,

I’m so sorry, Tieghan, but this was a miss for me as well! I wanted to love this so much, but the cobbler portion was eggy tasting and so, so dense. I scooped some
of that part out, added more chopped peaches and a couple Tbs of half and half and threw it back in the microwave for about 30 seconds and it was edible, but not something I will make again. Thanks for trying! This is the first recipe of yours (and I’ve made tons) that I’m not raving about!

    1. Hi Kelsey,
