Nine Favorite Things – blurry, but happy

Hello from home in Colorado. I flew home from LA late Thursday night and have been living through the rainy spring weather for the past few days. As you can guess it’s not my favorite, so I’m plotting and planning my next trip!

This time last year we spent a week in Miami and I certainly would not be opposed to doing so again. My parents, Asher, Oslo, and Creighton have been in Arizona this last week while I was in LA. They’re flying home tonight, but part of me wishes I was flying to Arizona to meet them instead. That dry desert heat and sunshine sure look amazing!

OK, moving on from the weather, hello and happy Sunday to you all! My time in LA this week was short and sweet. I recorded a podcast, took a few meetings, squeezed in a pilates class, squeezed in a drink with Dr. Will Cole, and had dinner with a friend too. Then before I could really blink I was back on a flight home. It was a nice trip, and pretty back-to-back which is just the way I prefer trips.

The highlight was my first Pilates class, I really hope to be able to do more. I think it’s such a wonderful practice for the body and the mind.

With the rain the last few days, it’s been a little on the dreary side here. So I decided that after a full day of computer work on Friday, I would put in a fun Anthropologie order. I kind of ordered a lot. New vases for flowers, cocktail glasses, some linens, and candles. I’ll share everything I ordered below. I’ll also add some of the items I left in my cart to think about. Like do I really need this tea kettle?

I spent the weekend cooking and catching up on recipes and I’m looking forward to a busy week ahead. Even though we’ll be home in Colorado, we’re working on a handful of really exciting projects and launches. They’re all still too far out to reveal just yet, but I can’t wait!

Lastly, in case any of you have missed them, my videos with Benny Blanco are up on Instagram! These are so much fun. Some of my favorite videos to date.

That’s all for today, not much more to report, but I have some fun favorites below! Hope everyone has a very nice Sunday!

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…Sian Zeng wallpapers. These are so cute, especially for a kids room. I adore the Dino Wallpaper. So sweet and it’s magnetic too, so fun for kids.

wanting…the Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress. I have read so many reviews on this mattress and I am now convinced I not only need organic bedding, but an organic mattress too. Adding this to my home “wish list”.

everything in my cart (low)…A lot of good reformation pieces this week including their Vintage Oversized Crewneck Sweatshirt. Looks very comfy and cozy. And their Layla silk skirt is so pretty. This linen skirt is in my shopping cart, the sweater tank is a a new summer staple, and everyone needs a good black wedge sandal for summer.

Love this semi-sheer knit midi skirt from Zara, very cute. Then, their midi dress is a summer staple. Either would be cute with the pointed toe slingbacks. And how about this belted denim trench? Very trendy, but also cute and a great affordable find.

Also, every Zara wedding guest dress you need. Their satin effect midi slip dress in pink, love a good strapless dress anyday, a sequin dress for some sparkle, or this pretty slip dress, and if a dress isn’t you thing, the strapless linen jumpsuit is for you.

For jewels, I love these heart earrings from Zara. Also, the new Adidas Arrive Baseball Cap is another great summer staple piece.

listening to…Noy Skincare’s Danna Omari On Cancer Diagnosis, Overcoming Life’s Most Challenging Obstacles.

dreaming of going…Puente Romano Beach Resort in Marbella, Spain. Bumping Spain up on my travel bucket list. What a pretty hotel.

loving…Emi Jay Hair Accessories. Emi Jay has the cutest pieces for your hair. Their Big Effing clips are my favorite (loving their new collection of dainty pink florals). But the headbands, pins, and scrunchies are all equally just as cute.

shopping…Zara Home. Always such cute finds here. I love their lamp with a tripod base.

watching…Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams’s Eclectic Spanish Colonial Revival Home. So pretty.

wanting…the Balmuda Steam Oven Toaster. Have you all seen this around? I just read a little about it and I’m very interested. Should I invest?

everything in my cart (beauty)…oh, the beauty this week! I have a few new finds and things I really want to try. First up, I love Saie Beauty. The makeup artist who did my makeup in LA uses their foundation and I just loved the look all-day long. Super pretty. I recommend their Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Highlighter, Glowy Super Skin Serum Foundation, Sun Melt Natural Cream Bronzer, and Mascara 101 Lengthening and Lifting

Also, loving the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump, it always looks pretty. And I’m obsessed with the Chanel Noir Allure Mascara.

New selects from Charlotte Tilbury. I love the Cheek to Chic Blush, it is so pretty. Their Beauty Highlighter Wand has been a go-to of mine for years. And then their Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder is great too.

Two brands I’m dying to try: Violette_FR, their Bisou Balm comes in the prettiest shades. And Blue Lagoon. I’ve heard good things about their BL+ the serum.

And lastly, love a good headband. The My Way Soft Headband from Free People is super cute.

traveling…This Summer’s It Destination Isn’t Italy. Greece! I am dying to go. Maybe this is the year. My wish is for both Italy and Greece.

watching…Vogue beauty secrets. Phoebe Tonkin’s Guide to Heatless Curls and Day-to-Night Red Lipstick is cute. I’m loving red lips right now. And then personally, I loved this cute video, 24 Hours of Sparkly Polos and Saturday Night Live Rehearsals with the Jonas Brothers.

wanting…Dolce Glow. Already ordered this and can’t wait. I need that summer tan.

everything in my cart (high)…These Bottega Veneta stretch raffia slides might just be the slides of summer.

I might have to get this cute Party Line Bucket Beads Bag from Ganni for Asher. it’s so fun for her. For jewels, I might just need to splurge on these beautiful 14kt gold stud earrings with topaz. And this Ferragamo Medium Wanda Leather Top Handle Bag is simply stunning.

Ok, and a couple bags from Saint Laurent that are perfect for summer. The Cassandre Round leather-trimmed raffia shoulder bag (my personal favorite). The Cœur small leather and raffia shoulder bag. And also their Woven Sisal Shoulder Bag.

Lastly, this Metallic open-knit gown from Ralph Lauren is classic with an element that makes it super special. And how pretty is the Milo Dress from Khaite. Stunning.

shopping…Wonder Valley extra virgin olive oil. And their candle too!

3. Rainy day online home shopping.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: when your book price drops, do you get stressed? Are copies sold more important than numbers?
a: Not even a little. I don’t stress on the books. Like at all. I create the books for you!! I wouldn’t make them otherwise, they’re a lot of time and work. All I care about is that the book is adding some kind of value to your life. The amount of books sold is never on my mind. I’m excited it’s sooo cheap right now! I figure if I make a GREAT book that’s new and fresh and adds value to your day, then sales will organically follow. I just make sure to work hard and let the content speak for itself. That’s kind of my take on all things “work/business” related

q: your next goal?
a: Create something very new and exciting for you guys…fingers crossed that this will be happening this year!! I am excited!

q: new follower and recently read some negative things about you. how do you handle that?
a: I try not to pay attention to it. If I give the haters any of my energy, then they’ve won and I miss out. Because I’m the one now wasting my time with them. They don’t deserve that. I keep my head down. Talk to my family, my team, stay focused on work, and create only the best content that I feel so excited to share.

Don’t give haters your time. It’s just stupid. And like my mom always says, you can never lose if you’re always kind, so just be gracious and don’t respond negatively. Kindness wins always in the end.

q: your family takes such fun vacations, who plans them? it must be hard to wrangle the crew?
a: My mom!! The woman is truly a superwoman. She does it all 👊 Finds an incredible location with a big enough house for us all, gets everyone’s schedules, books the flights. Family vacations are super important to her. She values the time with everyone together so much.

q: did your parents always take the family on trips?
a: Yes! They always made a huge effort to take family vacations. In general, we always did things together as a family. We still try to. I think it’s why we’re all so close and get along even as adults.

q: do you read the Reddit form about yourself?
a: Lol. No, I wouldn’t ever read that. It’s such junk.

q: what did your parents do before HBH?
a: Mom was a mom and taking care of 7 kids. She was a stay-at-home mom, but the woman was always working. Taking care of kids, managing the house, taxes, finances, all of it. She really did it all. My dad worked in the financial market selling bonds. I couldn’t really tell you exactly what he did. But that was always his job since he was 22 and graduated from college

q: thoughts on meat?
a: This is just my opinion, but really good grass-fed, organic meats and dairy make a difference. And again, this is my opinion, but I do feel that they are better for you. I also try to buy organic produce whenever possible. The quality of our food does matter.

q: how has your fashion style evolved over the years?
a: I think it’s always evolving! In general, I think my style includes timeless and classic looks. I love to invest in high-quality staple pieces, but have fun with a pop of color, a statement accessory, or a different silhouette. In the last year, I’ve been taking more “risk” and changing it up a bit. But at the end of the day, my go-to is timeless, every day, but chic basics.

5. LA in a day.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

I arrived late on Tuesday afternoon and headed straight from the airport to meet Lisa Satorn. Lisa has been cutting my hair for the last 2 or 3 years whenever I’m in LA. It had been well over a year since my last cut, so I was long overdue. She came to me at my hotel, which was very convenient. We did a simple trim but I felt like a whole new person. Lisa is so great and really gets my vibe. She’s over at Nine One Zero Salon in West Hollywood. We did lots and lots of layers. She also took the length up a couple of inches. Nothing crazy, but I do love it.

We finished up around 6:30 and I spent the night getting settled. I picked up some dinner and a few essentials from Whole Foods for the morning and for snacking. I always get baby carrots, lemons, berries, apples, and bananas for my hotel room – always. Then I showered, worked some, and tried to get to bed earlier since the following day was back-to-back.

outfit of the day

The next day, I recorded a podcast, then walked back to my hotel (pro tip, carry your sneakers with you so you can walk instead of Uber if time allows). From there I headed straight to an afternoon full of back-to-back meetings. I finished up around 5 pm, then bolted to a 5:30 pm Pilates class at Forma Pilates. This was my first pilates class and I loved it. Really hoping to incorporate this more into my routine.

more pilates please

I went straight from Pilates to meet Dr. Will Cole for a drink (and when I say drink, I mean coffee and tea). Then I ended the night with dinner at the hotel with a friend. We finished up pretty late, so I went back, showered, worked, and went to bed.

And the next day? A few more meetings, then I was out on a 7 pm flight back home to Colorado. Super quick, back-to-back trip, but I loved it. And now I know, I need more Pilates in my life!

  1. I don’t know how you do it all, but so glad that you do! I make at least a couple of your recipes per month and wish I had time to make more. Every recipe looks delicious! I’m curious how many tries it takes you to develop a new recipe? Do you ever feel it’s perfect on the first try or how do you determine if a recipe needs adjustments? I’m guessing your family tries out what you make and chimes in with suggestions? Have fun with the pilates. That’s on my list to try too.

    1. Hey Lynn,
Thanks so much for reading and your kind message!! I love that you have been enjoying the recipes! It really just depends on the recipe, sometimes it comes out on the first try, other times I test recipes up to 10 times and other times I just never end up even sharing a recipe if I don’t love it:) Yes, my family is definitely helpful in the critiquing area!! Have a great week! xT

  2. I don’t comment, mostly ever, but just have to tell you that I’m a 45 year old woman who loves your content, loves your recipes & style & energy & unique gifts & talents. Keep up the amazing work – I very much appreciate you and your team.

  4. Hi Tieghan. I own an Avocado mattress and LOVE it. I had back pain with my old mattress. The Avocado is so comfortable, and my back pain went away after about two weeks of using the Avocado. I also love that it is an eco, organic, “green” mattress. It didn’t have that terrible smell you get with other mattresses when it was new. I would highly recommend it!

    1. Hey Teresa,

  6. I have the Balmuda toaster and it’s amazing!! Perfect toast every time and so great for reheating pizza and pastries. It is a little small inside so have to do a couple rounds if I’m making toast for a bunch of people, but overall it’s the best toaster oven I’ve ever had.

    1. Hey Emilie,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing your feedback on the toaster! Good to know you have been loving it, I love the idea of not having to heat up my entire oven for small items! Have a great week! xT
