Nine Favorite Things – Miami beach

Happy Memorial Day weekend, happy summer!! How crazy is it that June arrives this week? Like most of us, I’m really excited for summer and looking forward to the warm weather. So many of us have travel plans, dinners with friends, weddings, and a whole list of fun summer things ahead. And some of us are just planning to chill in the warm weather and enjoy the long days and warm nights.

Personally, I’m excited for a mix of both! Traveling a little, seeing some new places, working on exciting new projects, summer recipes, summer flowers, and relaxing a little too. I’m ready for it all.

My recent trips to LA, then straight to Miami got me inspired for summer. The temps in Miami were a steady 85 degrees with humidity and sunshine (which I loved). We came home to much colder temps and fresh snow on the mountains. But there were beautiful bluebird skies and it was beautiful. The weather is slowly and surely warming around here and things are finally beginning to turn green. We just need a couple more weeks and it’s going to be lush and beautiful.

Let’s see, what’s new. On the family front, both Asher and Oslo are growing like crazy. After spending the week with them both in Miami, it’s crazy to see how much they’ve changed. Asher is truly a teenager now, almost as tall as me and wearing all my clothes. She’s also the smartest of us all and can hold a debate like a Harvard scholar (ok, slight exaggeration).

And Oslo, well, he’s just the cutest and growing every day. I LOVED getting to have him around every day. He’s such a little light of joy.

Travel-wise, next weekend is my brother Trevor’s birthday and there are talks of heading to Palm Springs to celebrate. I’ve actually never been to Palm Springs, but my parents are desperately trying to get me to go. They think I would love it.

Aside from that, everything is good, everyone is healthy, and thankfully happy too!

Lastly, I just want to say I know it’s been a really heavy week for the world. It’s hard to think about the unhappiness in the world. I hope this can be a happy safe space for you all to come and leave with a smile. Hug your families and always remember to be grateful for what you do have, not what you don’t.

Enjoy this week’s favorites, lots and lots of Memorial Day sales to share!

the Gigi x Frankies Bikinis collection

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…Staud Rio Platform Sandals. Never thought I would be excited over a platform flip flop, but I think these are so cute. Very into the style right now. Also, Staud has some really cute pieces out for summer. This blue Landry Dress (the mini in white is cute too) for day or night. I love the cutout on the Lourdes Dress, this yellow mini crossbody bag is the perfect size and color. And their crochet ria bag is the perfect go-anywhere summer bag.

loving…EF Collection ruby mini strawberry stud. This is an investment piece, but I love tiny stud earrings. The strawberry stud  (and cherry stud) are especially fun for summer.

listening to…Friend of a Friend with Olivia Perez. Her episode, on summer styles is an awesome listen for anyone interested in fashion and summer trends. It’s short and sweet. I personally loved the recap of the 2022 Cruise shows. Also, Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlin. Her latest episode on alcohol hits on the highs and lows of alcohol. I really enjoyed the honest conversation.

ordering…Saie hydrabeam brightening + hydrating under eye concealer. So excited to try this. Saie is one of my favorite clean beauty brands.

dreaming of going to…Greece!! Family vacation 2022, let’s go! Or I’m also really, really wanting to go anywhere along the coast of Italy. It looks so stunning this time of year.

wearing…oversized linen shirts. I love an oversized linen shirt as an everyday shirt paired with jean shorts, pants, long dresses, or worn over a bathing suit. I lived in this Zara shirt while in Miami.

loving…the Gigi x Frankies Bikinis collection. It’s even cuter in person.

loving…Prada leather shoulder bag. It’s a love, not a buy for me, but I think this is such a classic, timeless bag.

drinking…from the Hudson Wilder Alta Smoke Base Tall glasses. Love these for summer drinks.

loving…linens from Rough Linens. Adore these rustic, organic materials. Looks like everything is on sale for Memorial Day too.

shopping…for ceramics/pottery. Just discovered Feelceramics (I love this sage serving plate, wabi-sabi salad plates, and earth tone vase).

watching…A Perfect Pairing on Netflix. Mom, Dad (well Dad probably slept through it) and Asher watched it last night. They said it was cute. I’ll try to start it tonight.

cooking…Francis Mallmann’s heirloom tomato salad. This sounds amazing, especially with summer tomatoes on there way.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: your hair is so healthy and shiny! What products do you use?
a: Honestly, I don’t know exactly why this is. I usually eat an avocado a day and I wonder if that helps? Plus Cymbiotika Vitamins! While traveling I brought travel size Oribe gold list repair & restore shampoo + conditioner. At home, I use Milbon USA moisture collection.

q: what’s one current fashion trend that you love right now and one you don’t?
a: There are so many that I love, I didn’t love loafers at first but am loving them now.  Love a good shoulder bag, mini skirt, oversized leather jacket or blazer, poplin shirt, platform sandals, I could go on. I’m not into the really tiny frame sunglasses or fringed clothes  ??‍♀️

q: do you go for quality ingredients or just basic brands?
a: Always quality. I look for a very minimal ingredient list and try not to use anything with ingredients I can’t pronounce/read. Always read the ingredient list…the nutrition label means nothing to me. It’s all about what’s in the product

q: what is your nighttime routine like? How do you wind down?
a: I’m not really great at the wind-down. I pretty much work till bed. My wind-down is posting IG stories, then skincare, dinner, and bed. I have a good-ish morning routine but work just kind of goes until I go to sleep ? it needs improvement.

q: did you learn anything new on the book tour?
a: that I can sign a lot more books than I thought possible ??‍♀️ haha! Honestly, it definitely made me want to travel more and see new places. I really enjoyed seeing new cities!!

q: do you put your hair up when cooking?
a: It’s almost always in a bun. I just take it down to film stories cause I’m more comfortable with hair down I guess. I need something on my face when on camera.

q: what do you look for on menus when dining out?
a: I love spots where you can order multiple plates and share. That way you can try a little of everything on the menu!

q: have you started to think about your next cookbook?
a: Not even close, but also kind of. I do have an idea that I love in my head, but am I ready to tackle another book? Honestly no. Cookbooks are more work than most would think, they take years to create. I’m excited to be focusing on some new things!! But yes, I do have the idea for the next book.

q: what is a dream product for you to create?
a: A dream, dream product is a collaboration product with a designer I’ve always loved or am excited about (Prada, Bottega Veneta, RE/DONE, Staud, YSL, etc. I have so many favorites). I want to marry the 2 worlds I love, food and fashion/design. And of course, any kind of candle or skincare collection is so my thing.

5. Miami trip + photos.

I only have the best things to say about our Miami trip. It’s an awesome trip for families and friends. To be honest, we really didn’t do much more than hang at the pool and walk the streets of Miami, but it was the perfect trip. A mix of relaxing days, with lots of family time, and work mixed in.

We stayed at the 1 Hotel in South Beach. I personally thought it was probably the best place to stay in Miami and worked out really awesome for my family. We had a 3 bedroom suite that looked out over the pools and onto the Ocean. It was such a pretty view and the hotel really had everything we needed. Beach access, 3 pools, a gym for my dad and Creighton, bikes to use, multiple restaurants, and a really cute, fun vibe. We loved it.

We had a handful of dinners out but mostly stayed in a cooked. Tacos one night, pasta another. Just simple things, but we loved being together.

We took one day to hit up the fanciest mall in Miami to which we bought nothing at because it was all designer items. But Asher and I had fun looking. The rest of the time, we literally just hung out at the pool, rode bikes, and did a ton of walking throughout the city.

The highlight for me was getting to spend one on one time with my mom. We had a very small crew with us. Just my mom, dad, Creighton, Asher, Oslo, and myself. It was nice to get mom for a couple of hours of quality time. That never happens, so I soaked it up and enjoyed every minute.

Sharing all of our photos below, we have so many. It was an awesome trip and I am so happy I took the time out to make it happen.

6. Family vacation 2022 + inspiring me.

Keeping on the topic of travel, my mom is trying to plan our family summer vacation and we’re not sure where we want to go. My vote is for Greece, but it’s a little bit of a trek for such a big group. We’ve done Mexico a few times, but are considering that too.

Where should we go? We usually go around July 4th (over Red and Creighton’s birthdays), but this year we may go a little later, like August. Please share your favorite destinations!

  1. You need to visit Greece or Costa Rica! Two totally different vacations but two of the most beautiful places we’ve visited. We split our Costa Rica trip between the rain forest and the beach, and there are lots of outdoor activities to do at both. And Greece has just the most beautiful water and amazing food. From the sesame crusted feta to the pastitsio, it’s all pretty amazing. Tons of history and lots of walking. You won’t be disappointed!

    1. Hey Stacie,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing about Costa Rica and Greece! We did Costa Rica a few years ago and had a great time, so definitely trying to experience some place new! Greece sounds wonderful! xTieghan

  2. Santa Fe, NM! Go to Santa Fe — it’s got everything: fabulous food and architecture, history, world class art and jewelry, adventure (white water rafting in summer, hot air ballooning in the fall, skiing in winter) — and great places to stay! Take side trips to Chimayo and Taos. (This August may be tough, though, because it is the centennial year for the world renowned Indian Market in Santa Fe.)

    1. Hey Jacquelyn,
Thanks for reading today and sharing your recommendation for Santa Fe, we will definitely have to look into this! Have a great week:) xTieghan

  3. Love, love, love your blog and cookbooks! Thank you for being a ray of sunshine in my day!

What about Tamarindo Costa Rica for a vacation? Love that place but may have to go a little later as it is the rainy season through October. Great food, beach, surfing/boggy boarding, relaxing, turtles, beautiful sunsets, jungle etc.

    1. Hey Jenni,
Thanks so much for your super kind message and reading along:) We actually already did Costa Rica a few years ago, so trying to visit somewhere we haven’t been yet. Thanks for the recommendation!! xTieghan

  4. Yay you’re coming to Palm Springs! Born and raised here and been a fan of yours for over 9 years! Just a heads up, it will be 100+ come next weekend, so prepare yourselves..

If you or the fam need a massage while in town, I’m under @atouchabovetherest on the Gram and I come to you! Have the best time.

    1. Hi Haley,
Unfortunately, I will not be visiting Palm Springs, just the Cali people are going:) But thanks for all of this! Have the best week! xTieghan

  5. If your family likes to surf, you could visit Tofino on Vancouver Island, Canada. Long beach is a beautiful sandy beach. It’s a hippy sort of place with Uber friendly people. Very relaxed lifestyle! You can catch a boat to the hot springs for a few hours. It’s a short hike along a boardwalk to sit in the hot springs with the ocean waves crashing beside you or go whale watching, fishing for the big one…
Greece is definitely on my agenda. I was booked to go in 2020 and then 2021 but Covid was still bad there, so I cancelled twice. I will get there though!
I’ve been to Italy three times. So many beautiful places, so much history….

    1. Hey Joanna,
Thanks for reading today!! I will have to recommend Tofino to the fam, thanks for the suggestion, sounds like the perfect place for us! Have a great week! xTieghan

  6. Thank you for all of the time you spend on your Favorites posts! I always enjoy reading them. I visit your blog to take a break from the news so I appreciate the weekly wholesome family entertainment and break from reality.

  7. I have to agree that Italy or Greece, or both, would be ideal but it would not be easy to coordinate that for a large group in a short amount of time but definitely plan to do it. It will be well worth it. Gosh, as I think about it there are so many places in Europe that you would love.
I know you like warm/hot weather so what about Hawaii? We have always loved our trips there and it would be easier to coordinate for this summer than going overseas.
One of my all time favorite places to visit is Newfoundland. I may be partial as my mom was from there so we spent some summers growing up there but I think it’s impossible to go and not fall in love with the people. You wouldn’t get your tropical getaway or your designer shopping fix as the beaches are mostly rocky and the weather can be unpredictable but it is truly beautiful, there are great hiking trails and it would be very memorable.
I have recently added Fogo Island to my bucket list …..the hotel looks dreamy but it would likely only be a 2-3 day stay. It’s remote but I can’t wait .
One thing for sure, you will be with family so that’s a good time no matter where you go. I can’t wait to hear what your family decides on.
Grateful for all those who have served our country.

    1. Hi Marla,
Thanks for reading today and sharing your thoughts on our travel. Lol we do tend to do things super last minute, so I agree planning for all of us would be quite the task! Hawaii would probably be amazing too! Thanks for the Newfoundland suggestion, I’ve never really thought about going there, will have to do some research! I hope you have the best week:) xTieghan

  8. Thanks for another beautiful post T! I’m enjoying reading these weekly posts as much, if not more, than reading my monthly magazines, “Martha Stewart Living,” “Better Homes and Gardens,” etc. I think you must put in as much or more work than those editors do. I don’t know how you come up with all of the ideas and do all of the work that you do, but I am loving it!! Have a wonderful week ahead.❤️❤️❤️???(having the last piece of the strawberry bourbon crisp I made yesterday for breakfast with a cup of coffee, hoping nobody catches me)

    1. Hey Lorena,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful message and reading each Sunday! It really does take a lot of time to put these posts together, but I love them, so glad you do too! Have the best week and thanks for trying the strawberry crisp:) xTieghan

  9. You have expensive tastes. Do you get a kickback from the places you have links to on your newsletter? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could offer your readers similar, way less expensive items to purchase? Just a thought.

    1. Hi!!
Yes occasionally I will get some negative feedback. I always do my best to link affordable pieces as well throughout the post! I do have expensive taste, but a lot of those pricy items are more for inspiration. I usually link the affordable options too! xT

  10. Try Belize if you haven’t gone. Lots of outdoor activities to do and great for kids and adults

  11. These posts of yours are one of my favorite things of the week. It’s obvious you put a lot of time and efforts into them. I’m going to try to the salmon bowls this week. Will let you know how they turn out.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind message! I hope you have a great week and let me know how the salmon bowls turn out! xTieghan

  12. Maybe take a moment to honor those who died for our country? After all that’s really what this weekend is all about. It’s too easy to get wrapped up in all the fame and fortune without remembering who ultimately makes it all possible.

    1. We are having a very special family reunion.
My brother passed away this year & we are having a reunion with all of his kids from 2 marriages, both ex wives & all of his grandkids.
He served in Vietnam so we will celebrate that occasion.
To bad he will only be with us in spirit.
Happy Memorial Day & to my Dad who served as a Marine in World War II & to all of service men & women.
May we never take our freedom for granted.
Can’t believe how big Oslo is getting. You have a beautiful family. Never take that for granted

      1. I’m sorry for your loss. My brother died years ago and it was very hard so my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you’re all able to remember some wonderful times as you celebrate together.

      2. Hi Colleen,
Thanks for reading today. I am so incredibly sorry to hear about your brothers loss, I am sure this must be a difficult time for your family, but how amazing that you can all get together to celebrate him! Thanks for your kind message, wishing you all the best! xTieghan

    2. I totally agree with you.
Even with all of the heartache we having right now in our country we still have the best country in the world due to the sacrifices men & women in our service branches.
      God Bless America

    3. It’s a food, fashion and home blog, Maria. It was a devastating week for our country and I personally welcome a few minutes of lightness. Spend your time honoring our fallen in the manner you believe is right instead of using that time to take your shots. The very last thing that is needed right now is additional divisiveness, judgment and negativity.

      1. Kim, well articulated. Agree 1000%. Half Baked Harvest is a great escape! Tieghan and her teammates are incredibly talented. Sad, judgy, bitter, jealous people will use ANY excuse to attack others. Hubby and I are US military officers, a combined 52 years on active duty. Definitely consider honoring the fallen to be a sacred duty. BUT also love reading fabulous cooking and fashion content. They are not zero-sum activities ?

      2. Very well said! Why are some people seemingly unable to separate certain concepts?

I, like many other readers here, am from the opposite side of the world. I’m happy to hear about what fun stuff Tieghan is doing for her long weekend, without getting a lesson on American history.

      3. Both you and Maria make me sick. Her for trying to tell Tieghan how to write her blog and you for being so aggressive and nasty in your reply. She was wrong and you’re certainly no better. Let’s all fight with each other on a holiday weekend and see how that goes.

    5. Hi Maria,
Yes absolutely!!! Thank you so much for the reminder. I appreciate it and will take a moment tonight to honor those who fight for our country with my family. Hope you had a wonderful weekend! xT

  13. If you can find a way, I’d recommend Greece or Italy. I went with my twenty something daughters and both trips were absolutely amazing! The three of us are big foodies and both Greece and Italy’s food scene is incredible!

    1. Ahh thanks so much for the recommendation Janice, seriously both sound so amazing!! I hope you have a great day! xTieghan
