Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.comNine Favorite Things

Since returning home from LA last week, there has been a lot of planning and prep for the Book Tour. Huge shout out to my mom, who has booked every flight, hotel, and everything else in between for all my travels. Without her, none of this book tour would have come together the way it did. So I just want to sing her a little praise. Going to 5 cities over 10 days is a lot of planning, organizing, and prep.

We also had a team at my publisher, Clarkson Potter, making master lists and adding details. And my mom said that Emily at Beyond Travel Company was awesome in helping her with hotel details and transfers. So shout out to all of them as well!

For those of you unable to attend (which I know is most of you), don’t worry. I’ve still been working on new recipes to share with you guys. Because at the heart of it all is you guys. And I still want to be able to continue sharing fresh, new recipes for spring.

So it’s been a busy week between recipe creation and working on little details for everything else. But I’m feeling pretty good about it. Again, mostly thanks to my mom! What I would do without her is beyond me.

We’re all flying out today. Chicago for me, and my family is off to Palm Springs for some time in warmer weather and sunshine. My mom being the traveler that she is, is using my time away as a good excuse to get out of town. Springtime here in Colorado is what we call “mud season”. It’s not the nicest time to be here and certainly nice to get away if possible. Asher is very much looking forward to the trip, as is my whole family. They’re meeting up with some of my brothers and cousins that live in the SoCal area. Oh, and Bren, Lynds, and Baby Bud will be on their way back from Roundtop, TX so they’re going to stop in too.

So that’s a little snippet of everything that’s happening. It’s crazy to see everything coming together and at the same time how far we’ve come. I can’t say I am not anxious though. There’s definitely a lot of pressure and I just want everything to be so great for you guys! And of course, most of all, I hope you LOVE the book. Anything I release…anything, I am nervous to put out. But a cookbook is like nothing else. The first week, while exciting, is also so much stress. Will the recipes be good enough? Will they work for everyone? Are they easy enough? Are the photos pretty enough? Is there enough variety? Are there any typos we didn’t catch? Literally so many things.

Oh, and then the Amazon reviews! I remember with Super Simple there was a handful of negative reviews that first week the book came out. It was so, so, so hard to see. Of course, negative reviews are inevitable. But when you work so hard (and for years), they’re still never easy to see. But don’t get me wrong, it’s all worth it if you guys really enjoy and use the book. So fingers crossed! But definitely an anxious time for me.

Sharing more details below, recapping some book stuff, and…our new HBH olive oil bottle that was launched on Friday with California Olive Ranch!

Lastly, thank you so much for your support now and over the years! It truly amazes me every day the loyal HBH family we’ve built!

1. Things I’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…Turmeric. My foot started bothering me this week from walking in heels and then wearing down my tennis shoes. It was so bad that it was uncomfortable to walk and I was limping around. I hate taking anything like Advil, so I took a few turmeric pills instead. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory. It can help reduce swelling and pain in joints and bones. I’m not joking, within hours my foot felt well enough to walk normally. It’s such a miracle worker in so many aspects of health. Certainly something to look into taking if you’re looking to improve your day-to-day wellness.

loving…Frankies Bikinis. The second Asher got word they were heading to Palm Springs she put in a new Frankies Bikinis order (as did my mom). Loved her picks.

listening to…nothing new. I am in a podcast rut. Any recommendations for all my plane and car time coming up?

enjoying…the Best Vanilla Candles. I LOVE warming vanilla candles. So excited to try some new ones. Ordering: the SKYLAR Vanilla Sky candle (new to me brand, excited to try), LE LABO Santal 26 Classic candle (another new to me candle), Boy Smells Iris Fantome candle (already know I love this one), and I love the fun design on the Ligne Blanche White with Black Drawing Candle (curious to know what the candle is made of though.

loving…IS Clincal Sunsreen. This has been my favorite now for months. I use it daily and it feels like there is nothing on my skin. It’s packed in my bag along with all my other skincare favorites for 10 days of travel

ordered…new pieces for travel.

burning…Mason Louie candle La Petite Louise Candle. Loving this spring-like candle with lilac, jasmine, and vanilla.

wanting to try…the U Beauty bioactive treatment. I just read about this overnight treatment that targets dryness, dullness, and aging. Everything I need. Also, the Rose INC illuminating & plumping complexion duo. It’s a hydrating skincare base illuminating foundation. So skincare and makeup combined!

loving…the new APL spring colors. I just got the blue slate marble, beachwood, and midnight grey. Packed the grey for my trip!

ordered…the limited edition tubereuse tuberose candle from Diptyque. Yeah, yeah. Another candle, but can’t help it. This sounds so good and I love the blue vessel.

watching…Dollface on Hulu. Have you watched it yet?

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: dream vacation?
a: if I had to pick one right now, I would have to go tropical, so the Caribbean or the Maldives. but I really want to go to Japan. Red’s dying to go with me. he thinks I’ll love it and I need to try the ramen…then recreate it!

q: can you do a cook-off with Creighton and have Asher film it?
a: haha. ya, we’ll have to get my dad involved and have him provide the commentary 🤣 I’m on it as soon as Creighton comes back from California.

q: your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
a: the space/mountains. I love, love, loveee the space we have living up in the mountains. walking out my door every morning and seeing nothing but either blue and sun or snowy skies + mountains is something I’m thankful for every day.

q: what range would you get in your next kitchen?
a: I really want a Wolf range. I have them in my house and am dying to get a pair for the studio.

q: is there anything you don’t eat?
a: I don’t really do tofu. it weirds me out.

q: would you date someone who doesn’t cook?
a: of course! 1. it would be fun to teach them, and 2. I might need someone who doesn’t love it to balance me out…and have someone to cook for!

q: what is your go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe?
a: my mom’s! her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are famous and her regular cookies are too…she uses the recipe on the back of the Nestle chocolate chip bag, but hers are just better. more vanilla and way more chocolate.

q: customer’s favorite recipe from the cookbooks? your favorite recipe?
a: that’s a good question! what’s your guy’s favorite HBH cookbook recipe so far? my favorite is in the new HBH Every Day book!

q: anyone in the family prefer not to be on camera?
a: no one gets mad at me, but my mom’s definitely not into it. neither is my brother Kai sometimes, but he doesn’t really care. none of them really care that much one way or another. Creighton on the other hand is liking it too much and we may need to monitor that 😆.

q: how do you balance putting out content and family life?
a: I get this question basically every week and I’m coming to realize I really don’t have a balance. I need to do way better about taking more time away from work, but honestly, I’m horrible at it. there isn’t a balance. they just mesh together because I end up sharing so much of my family life with you guys and I love to work too much. but I’ve gotten a little better, so baby steps. a goal for this spring/summer is more travel.

q: coffee or tea? hot or iced? black, cream, sugar?
a: coffee, hot, black.

q: what is your number 1 goal with your home reno?
a: to really love every piece of both my house and studio! I spend soo much time in both places. I want to be excited when I walk in and feel a sense of calm. we never really finished either space so I can’t wait to just have them finally feel complete!!

q: any tips to super clear photo resolution when posting shots?
a: honestly, make sure your camera lens is clean. I wipe mine almost every time I take a photo. especially on the iPhone. and a steady hand.

q: do you think Asher will ever be interested in cooking with you?
a: maybe when she’s older, but she doesn’t seem too into it…unless there’s chocolate.

q: how do you stay creative and always come up with new recipes?
a: when I feel like I’m repeating recipes or in a rut, I reinvent the wheel for myself. if I’m thinking about one flavor profile, like Asian, I’ll switch things up completely and work on a Greek recipe instead. I kind of throw myself a flavor curveball.

5. HBH Every Day cookbook + olive oil launch.

HBH Every Day cookbook

HBH every day cover

Obviously, the new book is out this Tuesday! I will be in Chicago for events + signings, which will be so fun. I love Chicago and it always feels so close to home since we’re from Cleveland.

Tuesday, March 29th – Crate and Barrel is hosting an Instagram Live this Tuesday at noon CT. I will be on with them (from Chicago) talking about the new book and answering questions. I’m so happy about this because it’s a really fun way for everyone to get to be involved in the book launch.

Plus 2 viewers will win a signed copy of the new book as well as a $150 Crate and Barrel Gift Card.

Friday, April 1st – I will be on Good Morning America around 8:45 am EST! I’ll be cooking recipes from the new book. So excited!

And I will make sure to share as much as possible on Instagram this week. And then certainly, I will do a recap in next Sunday’s post!

HBH x California Olive Ranch 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I designed my own limited edition olive oil with California Olive Ranch’s 100% California Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Olive oil is my most used cooking ingredient. It’s always out on my counter, and as my dad likes to say, we have backups for the backups, so we never run out. When I received the opportunity to create something with a brand I love, I was so excited. The olive oil launched on March 25th and it’s so fun to see.

If you guys are into it, you can order your own bottle here.

    1. Hi Karen! Mainly the way it cooks, everything always cooks even and I love the sleek look! (: thank you!!

  1. Tieghan,
Congratulations on the new book! I tried to get into the Crate and Barrel event, but it was sold out. That’s a good sign!

I will pass on advice I received for handling negative feedback: “Don’t miss the standing ovation because of the one person sitting in the back of the room.”

    1. Hi Susan,
Thanks so much for your kind message, so sorry you were not able to get a ticket to the event! Love this advice, thank you:) Have the best day! xTieghan

  2. I don’t have your newest book yet, but I cannot BELIEVE every single human wasn’t in love with Super Simple when you mentioned it for negative reviews. I will go leave an awesome one on Amazon; I got that book for Christmas and I’ve cooked tons of recipes already from it, and it really lives up to the simple name, but still hits all the flavors your recipes are known for! I keep telling my friends about it!

As for podcasts, look into Brene Brown! She has several and all of her work is gold. It’s centered on vulnerability coupled with boundaries, I’m working through one called Daring Leadership right now. She wants people to be the best versions of themselves and to leave the world better than they found it.

    1. Hi Madeline,
Thanks so much for reading today and your super kind message! I am so glad you have been enjoying the Super Simple cookbook, love to hear it! Thanks for the podcast recommendation, sounds like a good one! xTieghan

  3. Podcast rec! My go-to for anything from plane trips to mowing the lawn is Good Job, Brain! It’s an offbeat trivia podcast that informs and entertains.

  4. Re: the Rose Inc. foundation – I LOVE it. It’s the perfect light-coverage foundation for every day and it feels amazing on my skin (I’m wearing it right now!). BUT! I panic every time I apply it because it goes on kind of like sunscreen – it looks very white and seems like it won’t blend! You really just have to work it in and keep blending for what feels like way too long. It eventually just dissolves into the skin and looks so natural. Just wanted to warn everyone that this is totally unlike any other foundation or tinted moisturizer!

    1. Hey Dee,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your feedback on the Rose foundation, super helpful!! Have a great week:) xTieghan

  5. Wanted to tell you I had a dinner party last night and I made your sheet pan jalapeño pineapple shrimp tacos. I followed your recipe without any changes and let me tell you, WOW! Everyone loved them and I was asked to remake in the future. Thank you for sharing your wonderful food inspirations. Best wishes on your upcoming food tour. Safe travels!

    1. Hey Denise,
Thank you so much for trying the recipe, I am so glad it was enjoyed!! Thanks for following along and your kind message! xTieghan
