Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.comNine Favorite Things

Since returning home from LA last week, there has been a lot of planning and prep for the Book Tour. Huge shout out to my mom, who has booked every flight, hotel, and everything else in between for all my travels. Without her, none of this book tour would have come together the way it did. So I just want to sing her a little praise. Going to 5 cities over 10 days is a lot of planning, organizing, and prep.

We also had a team at my publisher, Clarkson Potter, making master lists and adding details. And my mom said that Emily at Beyond Travel Company was awesome in helping her with hotel details and transfers. So shout out to all of them as well!

For those of you unable to attend (which I know is most of you), don’t worry. I’ve still been working on new recipes to share with you guys. Because at the heart of it all is you guys. And I still want to be able to continue sharing fresh, new recipes for spring.

So it’s been a busy week between recipe creation and working on little details for everything else. But I’m feeling pretty good about it. Again, mostly thanks to my mom! What I would do without her is beyond me.

We’re all flying out today. Chicago for me, and my family is off to Palm Springs for some time in warmer weather and sunshine. My mom being the traveler that she is, is using my time away as a good excuse to get out of town. Springtime here in Colorado is what we call “mud season”. It’s not the nicest time to be here and certainly nice to get away if possible. Asher is very much looking forward to the trip, as is my whole family. They’re meeting up with some of my brothers and cousins that live in the SoCal area. Oh, and Bren, Lynds, and Baby Bud will be on their way back from Roundtop, TX so they’re going to stop in too.

So that’s a little snippet of everything that’s happening. It’s crazy to see everything coming together and at the same time how far we’ve come. I can’t say I am not anxious though. There’s definitely a lot of pressure and I just want everything to be so great for you guys! And of course, most of all, I hope you LOVE the book. Anything I release…anything, I am nervous to put out. But a cookbook is like nothing else. The first week, while exciting, is also so much stress. Will the recipes be good enough? Will they work for everyone? Are they easy enough? Are the photos pretty enough? Is there enough variety? Are there any typos we didn’t catch? Literally so many things.

Oh, and then the Amazon reviews! I remember with Super Simple there was a handful of negative reviews that first week the book came out. It was so, so, so hard to see. Of course, negative reviews are inevitable. But when you work so hard (and for years), they’re still never easy to see. But don’t get me wrong, it’s all worth it if you guys really enjoy and use the book. So fingers crossed! But definitely an anxious time for me.

Sharing more details below, recapping some book stuff, and…our new HBH olive oil bottle that was launched on Friday with California Olive Ranch!

Lastly, thank you so much for your support now and over the years! It truly amazes me every day the loyal HBH family we’ve built!

1. Things I’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…Turmeric. My foot started bothering me this week from walking in heels and then wearing down my tennis shoes. It was so bad that it was uncomfortable to walk and I was limping around. I hate taking anything like Advil, so I took a few turmeric pills instead. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory. It can help reduce swelling and pain in joints and bones. I’m not joking, within hours my foot felt well enough to walk normally. It’s such a miracle worker in so many aspects of health. Certainly something to look into taking if you’re looking to improve your day-to-day wellness.

loving…Frankies Bikinis. The second Asher got word they were heading to Palm Springs she put in a new Frankies Bikinis order (as did my mom). Loved her picks.

listening to…nothing new. I am in a podcast rut. Any recommendations for all my plane and car time coming up?

enjoying…the Best Vanilla Candles. I LOVE warming vanilla candles. So excited to try some new ones. Ordering: the SKYLAR Vanilla Sky candle (new to me brand, excited to try), LE LABO Santal 26 Classic candle (another new to me candle), Boy Smells Iris Fantome candle (already know I love this one), and I love the fun design on the Ligne Blanche White with Black Drawing Candle (curious to know what the candle is made of though.

loving…IS Clincal Sunsreen. This has been my favorite now for months. I use it daily and it feels like there is nothing on my skin. It’s packed in my bag along with all my other skincare favorites for 10 days of travel

ordered…new pieces for travel.

burning…Mason Louie candle La Petite Louise Candle. Loving this spring-like candle with lilac, jasmine, and vanilla.

wanting to try…the U Beauty bioactive treatment. I just read about this overnight treatment that targets dryness, dullness, and aging. Everything I need. Also, the Rose INC illuminating & plumping complexion duo. It’s a hydrating skincare base illuminating foundation. So skincare and makeup combined!

loving…the new APL spring colors. I just got the blue slate marble, beachwood, and midnight grey. Packed the grey for my trip!

ordered…the limited edition tubereuse tuberose candle from Diptyque. Yeah, yeah. Another candle, but can’t help it. This sounds so good and I love the blue vessel.

watching…Dollface on Hulu. Have you watched it yet?

HBH x California Olive Ranch 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil

tieghan sprinkling chocolate on cake

I designed my own limited edition olive oil with California Olive Ranch’s 100% California Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Olive oil is my most used cooking ingredient. It’s always out on my counter, and as my dad likes to say, we have backups for the backups, so we never run out. When I received the opportunity to create something with a brand I love, I was so excited. The olive oil launched on March 25th and it’s so fun to see.

If you guys are into it, you can order your own bottle here.

  1. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that compound, and the sustainability aspects of it! It looks so simple, but so homely too.

A podcast recommendation would be the Huberman Lab Podcast by Andrew Huberman. I am in sort of a neurological zeitgeist right, but it’s great how well he explains simple concepts with hard science to back it up. I especially recommend the recent one on love, desire, and attachments.

    1. Hey Jesse,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing the podcast suggestion. Will add this one to the list! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  2. Love, love the roses on your 3/27/2022 newsletter! Please, share the name of the roses!!!!
    Crazy about all your recipes!

    1. Maggie, the big roses look like the David Austin Juliet rose, however they may be called something else in the US (i.e. cabbage rose). Tieghan can correct me though 😉

    2. Hi Maggie,
Thanks so much!! Those are garden roses:) Let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan

  3. Thank you for all your hard work! So looking forward to the new cookbook arriving this week! I really hope you can let the nasty comments to roll off your shoulders. Your very impressive young lady!

  4. Congrats on the olive oil. Very fun and cool Next time around consider having the entire family go on the book tour with you. Hope it all goes well.

  5. For podcasts I really like Growing with the Flow by Nayna Florence. It has really relaxing, positive vibes!

Have a fun and safe trip <3

  6. Have you listened to the “A Slight Change of Plans” podcast? It’s REALLY good and gets you thinking and makes you really thankful! Try it!

  7. Congratulations on the olive oil collaboration. Definitely going to try it out. Maybe the 3 pack WITH the cookbook! Love the bonus of giving back to adoption (mother of two beautiful adopted children) and Central Kitchen. I’m in a suburb of Chicago, didn’t get in on time for the C&B event, but will be there with you in spirit. Enjoy the book tour as best you can. Sounds like an exhausting whirlwind of events. Appreciate all that you do. Take best care! Hate to even acknowledge the trolls, but shame on them!!

    1. Hey Deanna,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your support, let me know what you think of the olive oil! I wish everyone could attend the events, sorry about that!! I hope you have the best week:) xTieghan

  8. Picking a favorite recipe is difficult for me because we’ve had so many in recent months that we’ve loved. Most of what we’ve been cooking is from the site because I only discovered you late last year and got your existing cookbooks in February (pre-ordered the new one!) and starting to make our way through them. I know my husband would say – hands down – the Sheet Pan Buffalo Chicken Pizza. It makes a frequent appearance on our menu! If I had to choose one (so far), it might have to be the baked version of the Penne Alla Vodka as the pasta bake!

With the new cookbook, I know things are going to be crazy for a bit. Just be sure to make time for yourself when all is said and done. Give yourself some grace – and a BREAK! You work hard. You deserve some “me time.”

As for the haters… pay them no mind. They’re not worth it. You’ll never make everyone happy no matter how hard you try. The uber vocal ones are usually projecting their own issues on you. @#$% the haters!

    1. Hi Kristie,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along. I am so glad you have been enjoying the recipes and truly appreciate you making them. My family loves any buffalo so that pizza is on repeat over here! I hope you love the new book as much as I do! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  9. I wanted to say that I love your recipes and continue to come back to them. They are great tasting and easy to make. I love everything your website has to offer. I will continue to support your efforts by visiting your website and purchasing through the links you post. I especially love reading your favorite nine things. I find you to be very inspiring and creative. Please keep up with the amazing work you do.

    1. Hi Alexandra,
Thank you so much for your kind message and reading along. I am so glad you have been enjoying the recipes and appreciate you making them. I hope you have a wonderful week! xTieghan

    1. Hey Jan, keep your personal opinions, theories, and insulting comments to yourself. This is not the platform and no one is interested. Given you find these recipes sub-par, perhaps you need to move on? We would all appreciate it.

    2. I was shocked to read your comment not once but twice. I’ve been considering how to respond all day and it finally came to me. 1. I do not think you are a fan of the Half-Baked Harvest brand. 2. You are rude and serve only your needs. 3. If you *were* a fan, you would have read or heard it spoken many times how a basic tenet of this family is to be kind and gracious to not just one another, but towards people in general.

You should be ashamed to confront something personal and physical whether or not it may be true or false. There is no grace or kindness in your posts. I feel sad that somehow you feel justified in what you wrote.

Good luck to you and I hope you grow from this situation into a better human.

  10. So why are you hiding your eating disorder? It’s clear from photos of both you, travel and food that you are battling some issues. You elude to them in your 9 favorite things. You are scary skinny. It’s also been noted in book reviews that your photography is spectactar, (which it is) but that the actual recipies are sub-par. Your hands, heavy clothing and photos give you away.

    1. What kind of mentally deranged bully are you, “Jan”? You must have some serious issues to behave like this and spew such hateful and completely unsubstantiated nonsense.

1.) There is absolutely nothing wrong with her appearance. The only thing “scary” around here is your freakish obsession with being a meddling gossip.
2.) The recipes are extraordinary, but there seems to be an army of seething, jealous trolls (probably with zero culinary skills) who enjoy making personal attacks – likely due to crippling insecurity and lack of any talent whatsoever. It’s extremely transparent. And sad.
3.) What business is it of yours if someone is suffering from a health issue? The answer is none. Nobody is obligated to reveal anything personal about themselves or their health to you. Who do you think you are?
4.) How about you reveal your identity and share photos of yourself so we can all critique your appearance?

    2. What an incredibly rude post that says an awful lot about you as a “human being.” Tieghan is incredibly talented and I feel lucky to have discovered her and her cookbooks. They bring wonderful, fresh flavors into my and my husband’s life, as well as those I’ve shared her creations with. Her body is NONE of your business. Feel free to take your wretched trolling elsewhere. Better yet, keep it to your miserable self.

    3. Wow… what a bunch of nastiness this is! Her recipes are awesome, haven’t made one yet that we didn’t enjoy. And who are you to assume and judge things about Teighan?! Keep your rudeness to yourself

    4. WOAH Jan, the depths of your cruelty for someone who has never done a thing to you is remarkable. The harm you can do to someone by leaving even a single comment like this is something you should truly take time to think about. Tieghan clearly works damn hard to produce free content that we all are choosing to consume. Her personal life is hers alone to carry out, none of us – especially you Jan – have any place in commenting on it.

    5. I called the last troll here human tapeworm. Another reader astutely pointed out I was being unduly harsh to the tapeworm. In difference to the tapeworm I won’t do that again. Seriously though do you really not have something better to do than be mean online? FFS.

    6. Tieghan – please ignore every single bit of Jan. The words we speak and the energy we put out are only a reflection of ourselves, and it’s sad that some people can be so audaciously rude. I wish you’d delete her comments, and I certainly hope you can see it/her for what it is. The work you put into the world is appreciated and valued by so many. I wish I could come see you when you are in Atlanta, but I will be celebrating my birthday on a boat on a lake. You are beautiful and adored exactly as you are, and your recipes bless my home most days of the week. Don’t you worry about anything for your book tour. Relax and enjoy every moment- it’s going to be a blast. Love, Gretchen

    7. You do not get to decide what is happening in someone’s personal life based on their photos or their body type. This is unacceptable behavior.

Tieghan, thank you for sharing your life with us every week (I love 9 Favorite Things and I’ve been reading them, enjoying them, and feeling encouraged by them since I found them at the start of the pandemic). I can’t imagine someone WHO DOESNT KNOW ME saying horrible things like this, so I’ll just try to balance out their twisted comments with kind ones of my own. I love your recipes, your pictures, you encourage me to be healthier while also enjoying food to its fullest. Thanks for all you do and share with your HBH community!

    8. This reply isn’t for Jan, but for Tieghan. When you read comments such as Jan’s, remember that happy and mean are mutually exclusive. No one who is happy is also mean. I suspect this is about their issues, not yours.

  11. I’ve made almost every recipe in the “Simple” cookbook, which is a big deal in and of itself because most cookbooks get one or two recipes and then I’m over it. But I keep going back to these. I have both your books actually. I have used the overnight oats recipe from your first book more times than I could count. And the poblano chili recipe in the Simple book is amazing and I’ve made it so many times. You are awesome! Thank you for blessing the world with your talents!

    1. Hi Angela,
Thanks so much for reading today. Wow!! That is pretty impressive, thanks for making so many recipes:) I hope you have the best week! xTieghan

  12. I think it would be so fun, but idk if this is your kind of thing… do see a post (maybe weekly?? If you have time!!) on what you wore during the week! Your style is so fun and casual! Also where is the blue sweater from in the olive oil pic? 🙂 p.s the number of times I’ve made the molten brownie since it was published is out of this world!! ? haha! Also would love to see a similar recipe but not chocolate! (Maybe a molten blonde brownie??)

    1. Hey there,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your feedback!! If you follow along on IG, I try to show more of the day to day stuff going on around here:) Here is the link for the sweater:

  13. Congratulations on your collaboration with California Olive Ranch! This is one of my favorite olive oils. I will definitely look for it at my local markets.
