Nine Favorite Things.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

Today is the day! Well, technically tomorrow. Everything starts super, super early in the morning with a 6 am flight out of Denver. I have no issues with an early morning flight, but I live two hours from the Denver airport, so let’s just say it’s a pretty darn early wake up call tomorrow. Should be fun.

So…where am I headed to this week? This is going to be super annoying, but I’m keeping it a secret until I arrive. I don’t know why, but I’m loving the idea of surprising you guys with photos very, very soon. I’ll post to Instagram when I arrive and I’m 98% sure you’ll immediately be able to guess my location. I figured I’d tried something new and fun and keep you guys guessing for a second…don’t hate me!

Some of you already guessed where my adventure is to last week. So, if you read through the comments, you might be able to figure it out. Here’s another little hint, I packed only shorts, tanks, and swim suits for Mexico, but for this trip? Total opposite. I’m bringing a down coat, a hat, and rain boats. Also…I’m nervous. I kind of LOVE sunny skies and warm weather, should be interesting. But above everything else, this is a trip that not many people get to take, so I’m excited no matter what!

Bottom line here? Keep your eyes peeled on Instagram this week! And then I’ll share all the photos and details in next Sunday’s post.

Anyway, since I was in Mexico last week, I really spent this week frantically working to get things done before taking off again. It’s been back-to-back long days in the kitchen, but all worth it in the end.

Let’s see, what else is happening?

Oh! I have a really fun question. We’re working on HBH product development. I’m really interested to hear what you guys would love to see from me product wise? What excites you most when you think of an HBH product line?

In other exciting news, we’re kind of, sort of, starting the process of looking into getting that second home out in California. It’s exciting, but a little nerve racking at a the same time. Obviously a new house is a big commitment, but I do think it’s what I need personally. The late winter and spring months here in Colorado get really hard for me. It’s cold and snowy and I just need more warmth and sunshine, you know what I mean?

Originally we were thinking Palm Springs (which I’ve never even been to), but lately I’ve shifted my thinking. Even though I hesitated at first, a space in LA really makes the most sense. We have a handful of big projects coming up that are based in LA. My brother and sister-in-law would be super close. And well, you really can’t beat the weather. We’ll see, we’re only just beginning to explore the idea. Could take years to finally do…we’ll see. But it’s certainly fun looking into it all and dreaming a bit…I’m great at dreaming. I love putting things together in my head. New adventures keep life exciting!

Coming up this week on HBH, I think we’ll start the week off with a new summer seafood recipe. It’s simple and delicious, so I feel like you’ll all love it. Tuesday is my favorite recipe of the week, a real childhood favorite of mine, but made at home. Then moving onto an Italian dinner that uses all the summer tomatoes and herbs. Then a quick chicken dish that my brother Trevor is obsessed with. And lastly, a fresh summer dessert to round the week out.

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try…

baking…with edible flowers, as always. I’m excited to share a discount code for you guys from Gourmet Sweet Botanicals. Receive 10% off all orders from now through august 18th using the code HBHFriends. Some of my personal favorites are the dahlias and violas.

loving, but pricy…this Staud Mini Shirley Crochet Edge Croc Embossed Leather Satchel (so cute for summer). this Staud Mesh Stripe Maxi Dress (this would be perfect for a wedding or fancy date night). and then this Ulla Johnson lucia crocheted wool crop top (cute with linen pants, shorts or jeans).

loving and affordable…these Alo airbrush leggings in lavender dusk, this Free People racer back tank, and this Frankies Bikini terry bikini top and bottom, plus skirt and sweater too. And then from Sara, this cut cutout dress and trousers.

loving…Model Taylor Hill’s Rustic Nashville Retreat. So cute and cozy. I love everything about this home.

listening to…Michael Pollan on Armchair Expert. This took me a while to get through, but it’s an interesting topic and conversation.

also listening to…Success Kills Creativity. I related to this so much. If you’re someone who’s running your own company or feeling a lack of creative juice, I’d listen to this.

reading…Tieghan of Half Baked Harvest Makes This Easy Skillet Recipe Every Week. Shared my favorite recipe with the Camille Style’s team this week.

loving…the Tan Luxe self tan drops. I took this with me to Mexico and instantly saw my skin come to life. I mix the drops into my Nécessaire body lotion for the perfect subtle glow. Since I’ve been home, I’ve been using their gradual tan body lotion to keep up the bronzed skin.

ordering…a Dyson vacuum, so excited. the vacuums we have are ancient. After reading this article I’m thinking of getting the cordless Detect 15 for my house, but the bigger upright vacuum for the studio since we always have more to pick up. Big price difference between the two, but I’m curious to compare them both. Does anyone have a favorite Dyson?

loving…Earth and Element Ceramics. Such cute and unique pieces.

ordered….Dr. Jart+ Cicapai Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30. I’ve been hearing so much about this product. I struggle with redness and uneven coloring, so I’m excited to try it.

4. Favorite questions of the week…vacation edition.

q: How many days where you in Cabo? And was it long enough? I want to start planning!
a: I flew in on Monday and came home on Thursday. I had Tuesday and Wednesday to spend fully in Cabo. It was a good amount for me personally, but I would recommend staying 4-5 days at least. There is so much to see and do, not to mention the awesome weather to enjoy!

q: What was your favorite at Flora Farm in Cabo?
a: The arugula pizza, the ravioli, roasted broccoli, catch of the day, and if you love pork…you have to order the pork chop

q: Do you pick up recipes ideas when on vacay/trying new foods?
a: yes, definitely!! I wish I had the opportunity to travel more for this reason. my family travels all the time and they often send me back photos of some of the foods they’ve eaten for new inspiration 🙂

q: Where is you favorite place in Cabo? I’m here right now!
a: I really enjoyed the neighborhood we stayed in, Pedregal. All of the homes are built into the mountain and around the rocks. It’s so pretty to walk the hilly cobblestone roads. We also loved the Cabo Surf area/beach. and of course I thought Flora Farms was great!

q: Is it nice have someone cook for you for once?
a: honestly, it feels very weird!

q: What is easy to cook for a big group on vacation?
a: I love to do simple dishes. pasta salad and tacos are always fun. or just grill up a few different meats and do a big side of grilled vegetables

q: How did you find the house? We have a big group and love being together!
a: Vrbo was so helpful in helping us find this home!! originally we had a hotel planned but a house worked out so much better!!

q: Did you all eat a lot of fish while on vacation?
a: Yes! The fish tacos were my favorite…even my mom ate one and she doesn’t ever, ever even go near fish

q: Is Cabo super hot in July? Thinking about going for my bachelorette party.
a: It was very, very comfortable. High 70’s during the day and it cooled off a night. The dry heat helps!

q: Why did you vacation for only 2 full days? No judgment, just curious!
a: I just couldn’t take more time off. 3 days in the sun was perfect for me 🙃 plus I have  another trip in a week!

q: What’s your favorite thing about being part of a big family?
a: having 7+ guaranteed best friends. between my siblings, my 3 cousins (that feel like siblings), my sister-in-law, and all the girlfriends, there’s always someone to hang with or talk to. and we’ve all got each other’s back. love my fam!

q: Did you cook while on vacation?
a: aside from making my mom a very simple cheese quesadilla for lunch, cutting up a pineapple, and making Oslo a bottle, nope!

q: How’s the food in Cabo?
a: we thought the food was awesome. we ate lots of chips and guacamole, tacos, fish and randomly, some really good Italian food too. oh, and of course, some fun drinks too!

5. I need a good at home workout?

The place where I am heading to I might not be able to do my usual morning routine. When I travel, I normally just head out the door and walk/hike, but this trip is different and I might not be able to do that.

I’m curious, what are your favorite workouts to do inside? I’m more of a light strength/stretching kind of person. I love to get my heart moving, but at the same time, nothing crazy intense.

So what’s your favorite workout? I’m thinking of trying a class by Megan Roup, has anyone taken one of her classes?

6. Favorite photos from the week.

  1. I know this comment is a little late but for at home workouts I love following Yoga with Adriene, she has lots of videos varying from beginning to advanced and light stretching to more sweat inducing workouts. I also like following Blogilates, she is super upbeat and again has lots of varying levels of pilates videos.

    1. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share Samantha, I will definitely have to check out her videos! xTieghan

  2. Hey Teigan! This is probably a weird question but who are Maggie and Abbey’s parents? Sorry to be so nosy but I love your family sooo such…don’t stop with the picture of everybody especially cute lil Oslo

    1. Hey Kamiya,
Thanks so much for reading along! Maggie and Abby’s dad is my dad’s brother:) Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan

  3. To easily remove corn from a cob mess free, buy a cheap Bundt or tube pan. Put narrow end of cob in the hole. Hold vertically and slice down with a sharp knife. Corn falls into the, pan. Ta da!

  4. My favorite workouts are from Heather Robertson. You can look up her website and she has her own YouTube channel with free workouts. I started with the 12-week workout program and when I finished it, I started all over and did it again. She has interactive monthly calendars with workouts for each day. She is absolutely the best. Calming background, great music, and no “chatty Cathy.” I started her workouts last August and have stuck with it, even with working out at home, which I’ve always hated, but I have come to love now. Did I say it’s free??? I’m 56 years old, have to modify exercises for my knees and if I can do it, anyone can!

    1. Hey Molly,
Thanks so much for reading today! I will definitely checkout the workouts from Heather, thanks for the recommendation! Have a great day! xTieghan

  5. Can’t help but put in a plug for California’s central coast. San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties are a couple hours drive from LA, but are brimming with local produce, farmers markets every day of the week, vineyards, and lots of great hiking. All the best parts of California without the traffic and with more nature.

  6. I vote Southern California for you! The beaches are amazing and LA is a great city that has so much to offer. Your opportunities would be endless:) The weather would be perfect as well 🙂 I would love to see you offer cooking classes or demonstrations there!
Can’t wait for your new adventure!! Your talent will take you anywhere:)

  7. On the topic of LA and as southern California native, I agree with everyone who mentioned San Diego. It’s awesome! But if you have a lot of projects in true LA, commuting there would be terrible. There are some pretty cool areas in LA county that would still give you accessibility but avoid some of the craziness. Monrovia and Claremont are both amazing options: good food, unique homes, close freeways, and excellent hiking!

  8. Love your posts and recipes! We started renting in Rancho Mirage (right next to Palm Springs) to escape Iowa winters 3 winters ago and love it! I would suggest renting something for a season wherever you think you want to land to feel things out before plunging into a kind of hot real estate market right now.

Also, if it is possible to love a vacuum, I LOVE my Dyson cordless stick vacuum!!! It’s every bit as powerful as the Dyson ball vacuum I had for over 10 years and so much easier to use because, well, duh … it’s cordless so it goes everywhere.

    Safe travels!!

    1. Hey Janece,
Thanks so much for reading today! Thanks for the Palm Spring suggestion, I will definitely look into this. Also, so glad you have been enjoying the Dyson, will have to check one out! xTieghan

  9. For quick, no-equipment workouts, I can’t say enough about the Tone It Up Studio app! I actually canceled my gym membership over a year ago and use this app exclusively. I did buy dumbbells, resistance bands, and ankle weights, but there are so many workouts in the app that don’t require anything. The booty bands are sold at Target for a really reasonable price, and they are so easy to throw in a suitcase. Here is the link: https://www.toneitup.com/activate/

  10. I just wanted to say that I love your 9 Favorite Things posts, especially the week’s dinners at the end. I’m always reminded of recipes of yours that I’ve made and loved but forgotten about, so it is very helpful!

  11. Great blog and photos and I am excited to hear your news later this week. Re: product development, I know that it may sound a bit cliche, but I would love to see and own (if you made them) a HBH apron and either a HBH tankard or cappuccino cup/mug to have my coffee in. If you do create and make new products, would you be able to ship to the UK please?
Seeing that tempting bowl of cherries photo, please can I request a few more recipes that feature this wonderful summer fruit? Cherries are one of my favourites.
I’ve been working through watching all the seasons of Friends on Netflix recently, which I’m loving. I’ve not watched Gossip Girl, however looking at the photos I agree the the furniture styling looks great.
Take care and have a good week.

    1. Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing these product suggestions! I love using summer fruit in my recipes so you should be able to find a bunch on the blog:) Have a great week! xTieghan

  12. I’m a massive fan of megan roup’s classes! you will love them! She’s such a positive person too and it shows so much through her videos, I love it. Her classes are so approachable and literally don’t need any equipment which makes them amazing for at home or on the go. I started her classes at beginning of COVID and haven’t stopped since, couldn’t recommend more 🙂

    1. Hey Casey,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing this workout recommendation, will definitely have to check them out! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  13. I got the Dyson Detect15 a few months ago and I looooove it. Do you need all the bells and whistles? No. But does it work so well that you think you do and it makes you happy? Yes. (I don’t work for Dyson haha, I just literally have felt like a kid with a new toy ever since getting it.)

Also, as for HBH products, I love the idea of ceramicware, but would also add to the list baking tools and unique pans. You make such lovely desserts, so finding tools that really complement those recipes would be amazing!

    1. Hey Dawn,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing your feedback on the Dyson! Also, love these suggestions for products, thanks for sharing! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  14. As someone who grew up going to LA every summer and ended up moving to SD for work, I cannot recommend SD enough. Stronger food scene, more compact to get around, less traffic, more to do, the list goes on and on. Like everyone else is saying, definitely take a look at it, SD might fit your vibe better.

  15. I always love Nine Favourite Things, such a lovely concept. I particularly like the recipes in this edition, there is a heatwave here in England and I am looking forward to trying out some recipes! Love x

  16. I echo the requests for tableware and dishes, you have such a great, simple, rustic/antique, yet still modern style lol! I think part of your manic is the beautiful plating aside the great recipes!! Would love to be able to recreate it with some HBH dishware!

Another HBH product dream would be spice blends and maybe baking mixes? I’m thinking cool herbal and floral quick bread or cake mixes? One piece in my pantry that I’m always missing/never have on hand for your beautiful recipes is often a unique flower or herb (such as lavender). It would be so cool to try your unique flavor combos already incorporated in the dry ingredients!

Whatever you do I know it will be super creative and delicious or beautiful! Thanks!

    1. Hey Steph,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing your product suggestions:) I love all of these ideas! Have the best week! xTieghan

  17. I have three cans of Coco Lopez. Sweetened coconut milk. Can you suggest how I can transform them into ice cream or some sort of dessert? Thank you!

  18. Seeing as you are remaining in the US for this vacation, I am going to guess that you are heading to Alaska. If that is the case, you are in for a treat! I just hope it isn’t smoky from the wildfires in British Columbia. I live in western Canada, and it is pretty smoky here right now.

I love your 9 favourite things posts, but in reality they are more like 100 favourite things! I love sitting with my morning coffee and having a look at all your recommendations.

Someone mentioned that they would look at purchasing a second home in Palm Springs as opposed to LA and I would probably second that. In LA, the blood pressure goes up immediately at the thought of driving anywhere. It is nuts there. Palm Springs is so beautiful, I was just telling my husband the other day that I would go there for another vacation in a heartbeat.

    1. Hey there,
Thanks so much for reading today, love your guess and can’t wait to share! Thanks so much for your feedback on LA, will definitely take this into consideration. Have the best week:) xTieghan

  19. We have 2 Dyson vacuums! The cordless is one of them and my husband (who does the actual work!) SWEARS by it! They are the BEST!

LA is great! Loved it when we visited (pre-pandemic)!

  20. Just love your 9 favorite things, thank you for always taking the time to write it for us. I would say Melissa Wood Health workouts are the best, especially for traveling. She’s just a great person and has a great vibe, plus killer workouts. She also has meditations on her site, which I love. Have fun on your trip. I’m guessing Iceland.

    1. Hey Marcy,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading today, I will definitely checkout the Melissa Wood workouts, thanks for the suggestion! xTieghan

  21. I love your Nine Favorite Things and realize its a lot of work so thank you!
I started using the Vintner’s Daughter serum after reading how much you love it and I have to say I love it as well. Do you use the Treatment Essence also? I have only bought it once but felt certain I would love it so I got the larger size but it seems to give my skin a weird texture. My skin just doesn’t feel as soft when I use it so I will quit using it and my skin is soft again but every time I try it my skin has that weird feel again. Have you had any issues with it? It’s so odd and I want to like it so just looking for thoughts or suggestions. The serum is so fabulous that I hate to give up on the Treatment Essence.
I also have another issue…….I often avoid making recipes because I hate buying fresh herbs when I know I will have to pitch what I don’t use. How essential are the fresh herbs and if subbing in dried, crushed, etc how does one know exactly what and how much to use?
Also, do you have a good recipe for Chicken on the Beach and multiple questions?
Sorry for the long comment but thanks for always taking the time to read and respond to comments.
Wherever you are going next week have a safe and fabulous time.

    1. Hey Marla,
Thanks so much for reading today! I do use the Treatment Essence from time to time. Unfortunately, not all skin care is good for all types of skin, so if it just isn’t working for you I probably wouldn’t push it:) I really love using fresh herbs, I do think they make a huge difference in recipes especially if it is a dish that is not getting cooked like a salad for example. In general for every 1 tablespoon of fresh herbs you should use 1 teaspoon of dried herbs. I have never had chicken on the beach, but will certainly look into it. Have the best week! xTieghan

  22. This is just my two cents… But I’d buy in Palm Springs over LA any day. Our family has taken dozens of trips there over the years. It’s immediate beauty and relaxation from the second you step off the plane. There is no hustle and bustle. I think it would recharge and energize you like none other. LA on the other hand is crazy busy. The traffic is horrendous. And if you need to get there it’s a short 2 hour drive.

  23. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your nine favorite things. It’s a great way for me to relax and enjoy all that you do.

  24. Hi Tieghan, My favorite Dyson is the Animal model – we have a dog and this just handle the hair like a boss! Do the maintenance on the Dyson and wash the filters every other month or so. I have an extra so there is always one ready. And do not use it to vacuum up pine needles! They do not like that!
My brother lives in Encinitas and has work in LA from time to time. He loves the low key vibe of the San Diego area, but still gets his LA fix. Del Mar and La Jolla are also 2 great areas to consider. Can’t wait to see where you end up this week – super exciting!

    1. Hey Susan,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing your Dyson recommendation, this is super helpful! Yes! love the idea of San Diego area and then traveling to LA for work when needed, my brothers live in Oceanside and love it. xTieghan

  25. Hi!! I think I’d love to see your inspired dinnerware/table setting. Maybe even dining/kitchen furniture this way we can not only recreate your dishes at home, but TRY to make look just as pretty with some stoneware plates, gold silverware or rustic tables. Idk…just my thoughts!

    1. Hey Amanda,
I love these products suggestions thanks so much for the ideas! Have the best week! xTieghan

  26. So excited to see where you end up going!
Workouts- I love Betty Rocker’s workouts which are all typically 15-30 minutes each and efficient. I also love yoga with Adriene for a gentler exercise practice.
LOVE that model’s home that you shared and so fabulous that she created the spaces. I love seeing that so much more than designer-made spaces.

    1. Hey Cassie,
Thanks so much for reading as always, I can’t wait to share where I am headed! Thanks for the workout recommendations, will definitely check these out! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  27. Hi! I would love to see some shelf stable products that could be added to a meal- maybe some oils, seasonings/flavored salts? You also make really great dressings so that could be cool! Or some pretty plates, platters, or bowls to serve.

As far as working out, especially while I’m vacation, I suggest Obé! I know you’re a Ladygang fan and I found it through LG. They have many daily live classes but also so many on demand classes- all different types!!! I suggest giving it a try 🙂 enjoy the vacation!

    1. Hey Emily,
Thanks so much for reading today and sharing these product recommendations. I will definitely checkout the Obe workouts, thanks a bunch. Have the best week! xTieghan

  28. I have been following you for a while now and im curious what camera gear you are using for your food photography at the moment? Camera? Lenses? Lights?

    Have a lovely trip!

    1. Hey Tessa,
Thank you so very much!! I use a canon 5d mark iv and I always use natural lighting, I think this is absolutely key for good photos! I hope this helps:) xTieghan

  29. Product-wise: candles! I always love your candle recs, and it would be so fun for you to design some of your own scents. For food: baked goods, truffles, caramels would all be fun and it’s hard to find good ones at the store.

    1. Hey Hilary,
Love these ideas and you know I love a good candle, thanks for the suggestions! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  30. You are so much younger than me, but I find you so captivating. You are mature far past your years. You give off an Opra vibe. Loving your recipes and reading about your life and family. Good luck in all your ventures.

    1. Hey Pauline,
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind message, I am flattered:) I hope you have a great week! xTieghan

  31. Be fun to see where you are going! Happy travels 🙂

Product wise, something chocolately or maybe a great dressing? If not food a gorgeous big salad serving bowl and servers? Xx

    1. Hey Kelly-Jane,
Thanks so much for reading as always! I can’t wait to share where I am going and I love these product ideas, thanks for the suggestions! xTieghan
