It’s almost ice cream season!
Well not here, because here it is still snowing (and I am not kidding – like at all). But for most everywhere else it is almost ice cream season.
And I love ice cream season.
In my mind ice cream season means a few things:
~hot days
~sunshine
~warm nights
~dairy queen
~milkshakes
~and all the homemade ice cream I can possibly make
Basically, it’s just an awesome season. I know we are not really there yet, but I still say a milkshake is needed on this Tuesday… snow, sunshine, rain or whatever else may be going on your neck of the woods.
Alright, but here is the real deal. When I was brainstorming recipes last week I kind of went a little crazy with the Cinco de Mayo stuff.
And when I mean a little crazy, I mean I could have fed an army with my Mexican inspired breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks and desserts.
I have always been a little curious about all the doughnut milkshakes that I have seen floating around these days, so I guess that is mostly where this idea came from. I was out walking one morning thinking about churros (because that’s totally normal and all) and how dang addicting they are. On this particular day, it just so happened to actually be sunny and semi-warm, and I think I just had cool spring/summery things on my mind. So Mexican met cool spring/summery and churro milkshakes it was.
Now I know it sounds super odd, and I actually almost did not make them because the boys where all weirded out. Basically, they just wanted churros and milkshakes… but separately. Whatever, I did it anyway and they loved um.
Although mine where just a tad intense, seeing as I added four rather large churros for a milkshake serving only two. Let’s just say they were heavy on the good stuff.
So for a little less intense shake I would probably just add two churros, four was a little much.
But if you think you can handle it, go for it.
Since my Monday was just, well flat-out horrible, I totally spiked these for the family with some coconut rum. Nothing serious, but it just makes the day a little bit more fun…
Especially when you are me, who does not drink at all, but oddly loves a tablespoon of tequila and rum mixed into sweet and savory foods. Sometimes it’s just the perfect finishing touch. Of course, it is totally optional.
Oh, and churros dipped in a little milkshake? Yeah, that is awesome too. Make sure you make a FULL batch of these churros. They’ll be gone in seconds.
Thinking about more ice cream on Friday. Would that be too much?

Oh, I can handle it, baby! And isn’t every dessert supposed to be over the top? I think so. 🙂
Thanks Brian!
That last picture, who am I kidding… EVERY picture, has me over here drooling! You had me at churros and ice cream… Amazing recipe

Thanks Sandy!! 🙂
Oh Tieghan, this looks absolutely amazing… three of my favorite things! (dulce de leche, milkshakes churros) We recently had churros dipped in chocolate at a place called Xoco in Chicago, and I’ve been dreaming of them ever since. Thank you for the idea!
YUM! Sounds so good! Thanks so much!
Wow. What a brilliant idea. I could have like 5 of these! Yum 🙂
Thanks Alexandra! 🙂
Oh goodness, these look like heaven on earth! I’m so used to seeing churros just with chocolate sauce, so this looks like an awesome change of pace. Yum!
Thanks so much!! Chocolate sauce is awesome, but these are super fun!
These look incredible, love the churros and dulce de leche! And bring on the coconut rum ;).
Isn’t coconut rum the best? I love using a tablespoon of so for and awesome flavor!
Love this. I so want a milkshake now! 🙂
Thanks Amanda!
One of my favorite things about summer is ICE CREAM. I’ve been pinning tons of ice cream recipes in preparation. This looks sooo tasty.
Me too! Thanks Mandy!
Every time I see your posts, I want to sing you a love song. I’m OBSESSED with churros, and milkshakes are one of my favorite desserts ever. Drinkable churro dessert?! I’m dying.
THANKS!! You are the best! 🙂
Perfect combination of dulce de leche and churros, two things great by themselves. Will try it when summer finally gets here!
Ria
Thanks Ria!
These look amazing! I’m so excited for ice cream season as well. Was just thinking about busting out my ice cream maker this week!
Oh yeah! I have mine out and churning like crazy. Ha!
Thanks Liz!
Umm…dare I say perfect desert??
Oh man, that is a tough call. Not sure I would be able to make that call, but they are up there for sure!! 🙂
Thankfully my ice cream season lasts for 365 days 🙂 Blown away by this churro milkshake situation!
Thanks so much, Kelli!
