This EASY 4 ingredient Homemade Chocolate Frosty is such a fun dessert for a hot summer day. It’s everyone’s favorite childhood treat…made at home, made healthier, and made so easily! These Frosty’s are ice cold and super creamy, just like the Wendy’s version. But, they’re actually better, because they’re made with real chocolate, cream, and vanilla. Trust me here, this Frosty is SO VERY GOOD, all of my brothers have approved. There’s nothing not to love about this sweet and creamy chocolate Frosty. It’s everyone’s favorite…from kids to adults.

You guys, you guys! I made us a homemade chocolate Frosty, and honestly, it’s really delicious. Just like Wendy’s texture wise, but with better chocolate flavor.

I’ve said this many time over now, but as a kid I didn’t enjoy fast food very much. I think I ate it a few times as a young, young child. But I moved on from fast food pretty early on in life…

I was a weird kid, I loved carrots and ranch as a snack, and always ate my broccoli.

But I wasn’t that weird because I still loved a good DQ blizzard. And on rare occasions, a Wendy’s Frosty. I say rare because if the family was getting something sweet, we’d eat mom’s homemade desserts. Or if we were lucky, we’d grab a blizzard. It was rare that my mom ever took us to Wendy’s. We just didn’t eat fast food. But every once in a while we’d grab a Frosty.

The other day I was driving by Wendy’s and thinking about those Frosty’s. It got me wondering if I could make something similar at home. I just had to try it…and now here we are.

I wasn’t sure I could make an exact replica – and I didn’t, but in my opinion, it’s even better. Just as cold, just as creamy, but with real chocolate flavor and hints of vanilla.

What I love so much about this recipe is just how easy it is. Just four ingredients that you possible have in your kitchen right now.

Chocolate milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla.

The process is as follows. Freeze the chocolate milk into ice cubes. Then blend in the blender with the cream, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla (I add a pinch of salt too). Blend until really creamy, then serve it up right away in short milk or juice glasses.

A few more notes

I did take the effort to make homemade chocolate milk, but it’s just milk, cocoa, sugar, and vanilla blended together. So the effort was an five extra minutes, and well worth it for the flavor.

I also love that I can easily adjust the amount of sugar. I love things less sweet, but you might like them sweeter. So add more or less sweetener according to your taste.

The recipe makes a good amount of chocolate ice cubes so you won’t be able to fit them all in your blender at once. Leave some in the freezer so you can enjoy a Frosty any time of day!

Simple as that. It’s COLD and CREAMY and just so darn delicious. I love that the chocolate and vanilla flavors really stand out. And the texture? Well it’s just like Wendy’s – perfection.

The real question?

How do you enjoy your frosty? Plain Jane and with a spoon…or do you order a side of fries for dipping?

I was always a spoon person. But I will say, I think a milkshake and fries are a really great combo!

So, what’s your preference?

  1. Hi – this is high on my to-do list. A couple of questions:
    1. How many ice cube trays are needed for the 6-ish cups of liquid?
    2. If I wanted to make malted frosties – how much malted milk powder would you suggest adding?
    Thanks!

    1. Hey John,
It really depends on the size of your ice cube trays, how big they are, how many cubes they make:) I have not tried adding malted milk powder to this, so I do not know the results, but I would start with a couple tablespoons. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xTieghan

      1. Okay – one more question: are the amounts for the heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla what you use for all 5 cups of frozen chocolate milk? IE – if I’m only using half of the milk cubes – I should only use half the amount of the other ingredients? Thanks!

    1. Hey Kayla,
Happy Wednesday! Thanks a bunch for making this recipe, I am so glad to hear it was a winner:) xTieghan

My son wanted “root beer milk” from the store and then didn’t drink it. Soooo I adapted this recipe and omg it’s the best root beer freeze! I bet it would work great with any flavored milk. So good.

    1. Hey Taylor,
Thank you so much for giving this recipe a try, love to hear that it was enjoyed! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  3. Do you use half of what’s called for of the condensed milk, cream, and vanilla? Or just half of the ice cubes? Also is it a varied amount on the sweetened condensed milk?Like 1/2 cup to a cup or is it 1.5 cups?

    1. I just told my husband about this frosty recipe. He looked at me with murder in his eyes and wanted to know how long I’ve been holding out on him. Now I’ll make it for him and he’ll be so thrilled that he doesn’t have to drive any further than the kitchen when he craves one.

    2. Hey Ann,
So sorry, I am not sure I am following your questions. You are just using half of the already made ice cubes. I used 1/4 cup of sweetened condensed milk, if you prefer yours to be sweeter then add more. I hope I answered your questions correctly. Please let me know if you need anymore help. xTieghan

I made this tonight after dinner for my husband and me and we both just loved them! The taste was so reminiscent of the Wendy’s Frosty but, I agree with you Teighan, these were even tastier. I’d call them an elevated version! It was 106 here in Phoenix today and these were the perfect refreshing end to our day! Another homerun recipe.

Made this last night and the texture was spot on! I used store bought chocolate milk. I did have to add a healthy squeeze of Hershey’s syrup to get a more chocolatey flavor. It was delish and I would make again.

These were so good! I probably could have added more ice cubes to make it a little thicker like a frosty but I do love a good milkshake! So tasty! Thank for you this wonderful recipe.

Can’t wait to give this a try but I have to go buy ice cube trays….hahahaha

  7. I think I’d like to try to make a chocolate malted version of this. Anyone have suggestions about how much malt powder I should add to the 5 cups of chocolate milk to get the proper malted flavor?

  8. 5 stars
This was delicious and super easy! I did freeze the chocolate milk on a cookie sheet which took only 2 hours as I wanted to have the frosty the same day. Thanks Teighan for a fun summertime dessert.
