This simple Sheet Pan Sticky Ginger Soy Chicken and Broccoli is about to become your new go-to meal. Easy homemade, extra saucy chicken, tossed in a gingery, sweet, spicy, and extra sticky honey soy sauce. Serve with steamed rice and broccoli – cooked right alongside the chicken – for the easiest sheet pan dinner. A delicious, fun, take-out style dinner made at home – and much healthier too – that’s great any night of the week!
It doesn’t look like it, but when you read this recipe, to me, it screams retro. Retro, like a recipe your grandma would have made way back in the day. This is totally something my Nonnie would have made on repeat.
It’s EASY, which we of course love. My Nonnie was a real pro at creating delicious dinners that took very little effort on her part. She knew her time was better spent shopping with me!
Her secret was using ingredients that did double the work. She would incorporate a lot of store-bought seasoning packets and sauces to add flavor. She’d also take shortcuts whenever she could. But regardless, her dinners were always delicious, and I know she’d fully approve of this recipe.
So what is the “retro” secret ingredient here? A little bit of ketchup. It gives this sticky sauce added body, flavor, and sweetness.
I know it’s not a new concept by any means, but I don’t often use ketchup for cooking. I usually reserve it for dipping my french fries. But I’m now sold on using ketchup in sauces. Sounds odd, but wow, it’s so delicious.
This recipe is so simple and straightforward. Grab some broccoli and chicken, I love to use a mix of chicken breasts and thighs. My family prefers chicken breasts, but I think thighs always add flavor. They give just the right amount of fat to keep chicken from drying out. I find a mix is always nice!
Arrange the chicken and broccoli inside a baking dish. I use a smaller sheet pan with sides. Ideally, you want to use something a little smaller than a 9×13 inch baker. This will allow the sauce to better thicken around the chicken. A sheet pan with sides is perfect!
Now the sauce. Mix equal amounts of honey, ketchup, and tamari (or soy sauce) together. Then add tart pomegranate juice, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Mix and pour the sauce over the chicken.
Bake until the sauce thickens slightly around the pieces of chicken and broccoli.
At the end of cooking, I like to switch the oven to the broil setting and get the chicken caramelized on top. Just watch closely, the broiler can really work FAST.
I was shocked at how well the timing of everything ended up working out. Nothing fancy here, just simple cooking, but very delicious.
Serve the sauce, chicken, and broccoli over steamed rice with plenty of green onions, and if you’re into it, pomegranates too. I love using them because they add color and juiciness.

So easy and simple ingredients. Spicy yet sweet. I added diced carrots, too. Delicious. 10/10 recommend.

Delicious and easy recipe! Thank you, Tieghan! I had to broil for a little bit longer to get better color like her pictures show – will try the cornstartch slurry in the below comments next time. But the sauce has amazing flavor, so definitely worth making!

I made this yesterday for a family of 3 generations of picky eaters … and it was a huge hit across the board, from ages 7 to 75 and everywhere in between. So simple, too. Another of a long string of hits from Tieghan … love your stuff, lady, thanx much!
Hey Dave,
Wonderful!! I love to hear that this recipe turned out well for you and thanks so much for trying it out! xx
Love this one so much! Second time making it tonight and used maple syrup in place of the honey cause we ran out, and still turned out great! Also enjoyed topping it with sesame seeds this time. ☺️
Hey Heather,

Looking forward to making this receipt this week. Has anyone tried it in the Instant Pot? curious how it turned out.
Hey Craig,
This recipe turns out great in the instant pot! Let me know if you give it a try:) I hope it’s delish! xx
My family loved this! I used 1.5 lb each breast and thighs and tossed the chicken in 1-2 tablespoons of potato starch (because I’m out of cornstarch) before pouring the sauce over it. I put frozen broccoli florettes on top and then mixed it all together before boiling.

Hey Katie,
Wonderful!! I appreciate you making this recipe and your comment, so glad to hear it was enjoyed! Have a great weekend:)
The sauce was so yummy, but it definitely didn’t thicken as others had mentioned! I ended up making extra sauce and pouring it on top at the end. I will definitely try again with the corn starch slurry!
Hey Alivia,
Happy Friday!!⛄️ Thanks so much for making this dish and sharing your review, so glad to hear it was a hit! xx
What is the powdered spice you add to the sauce in the video? Is there a missing ingredient on the list? P.S. I love your videos and recipes. They always turn out so delicious and flavorful.
Hi Jenny,
I just added som cayenne because my family likes the spice, but not needed at all:) Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love this recipe! xx
Agree with the comments about the sauce not thickening however my family preferred it that way. Flavor was great. I’ve been happy with all your recipes so far while adding my own tweaks!
Hey Jessica,
Awesome!! Love to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for making it! xT
This was delicious! Made it last night, and will definitely make again! It smelled like our favorite take out food while it was in the oven, and tasted great. Thanks for sharing, we love it!
Hey Brittany,
Happy Wednesday! Thanks so much for making this recipe and your comment, so glad to hear it turned out well for you! xx
Absolutely delicious! I will definitely be making this again, perhaps with the cornstarch slurry suggested by another reviewer. My husband suggested that I add chunks of fresh pineapple to the broil stage, so that’s a possibility too.
Thanks for a great recipe, Tieghan!
Hey Judy,
Thanks so much for making this recipe and sharing what worked well for you! So glad to hear that it was enjoyed! xT
This was really tasty. Only thing I found was the sauce to be runny so I added a cornstarch slurry at the end and it thickened nicely under the broiler!
Hey Leanne,
Happy Wednesday! Thanks so much for making this recipe and your comment, so glad to hear it turned out well for you! xx
Was bummed with the results. The liquid in the pan and the high cooking temperatures caused a strong smell to fill my house for the entire evening. The chicken was okay, the broccoli turned out better than expected. Sad that this didn’t turn out better. Simple process to cook though.
Hey Hannah,
Thanks for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback, so sorry to hear it wasn’t enjoyed. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help with! xT
Sheet pan or baking dish? Step one says prepare sheet pan, step two says baking dish. The video looks like a baking dish, but a sheet pan might help reduce the sauce some.
Hey Matt,
I would recommend using a sheet pan or baking dish as long as the sides are high so you don’t have anything spill:) Please let me know if you have any other questions! xx
The sauce definitely needs a thickener; however, the flavor was great!
Thanks so much for trying this recipe Pia!! You could do a cornstarch slurry for the sauce next time! I hope this helps! xT
Lots of great flavor but my sauce also didn’t thicken. Tieghan, how do I make the cornstarch slurry you mentioned above? Just add cornstarch to the sauce before I mix it with the chicken and broccoli?
Hey Debbie,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try! Just mix cornstarch and water, there should be directions on the cornstarch packet and then mix into the sauce:) I hope this helps! xx
This will definitely be added to our dinner rotation. Very flavourful and easy to make for a weeknight meal!
Hey Angela,
Amazing!! I appreciate you making this dish and sharing your review, so glad to hear it was a winner! xT
