This Spiced Maple Bourbon Fizz is the perfect cozy cocktail. Homemade spiced maple syrup, mixed with warming bourbon, lemon, and orange, then topped off with bubbly champagne for that special November touch. Perfect for the cold nights ahead and upcoming Thanksgiving. Make a large batch to serve to family and friends over the holidays, this is so easy to create.
Once November rolls around, I want nothing more than all things cozy, even my cocktails. To me, November drinks should have warm, spicy flavors. I love notes of bourbon and cinnamon, and then just a touch of sweetness.
Kind of like a warm November hug. So cheesy, I know, but it’s the time of year when my cheesiest self comes out.
I can’t help it, you know I love the holidays.
This one is different, because for once, I’m focusing more on spices and much less on the fruit. I’m a fruity cocktail kind of person, but I’m switching things up. The key to this drink lies within the spiced maple syrup. It’s a mix of sweet maple and warming spices…cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. All simmered together and then finished off with a fresh zest of orange.
When shaken up with bourbon, a squeeze of lemon, and topped off with festive bubbly champagne, it’s sweet, spicy, and so delicious.
I gave you recipes for both a single drink and the punch version. So if you’re serving guests this Thanksgiving, this is the perfect warming cocktail to serve up!
The syrup is the heart of the cocktail, and were a lot of the flavor comes from. The flavors go so well. And as I said, it’s the perfect warming drink for cold nights. I highly suggest making a batch of the spiced syrup this weekend. Then when friends and family randomly show up at your door you can whip up delicious cocktails. Which happens for me quite often.
Nothing is more welcoming than a cozy cocktail. Well, maybe a roaring fire, but that can sometimes be hard to come by. That said, if you can mix up this fun and festive fizz, and stoke up a fire, that’s definitely ideal.
And that’s pretty much it. It’s a classic, but with a seasonal twist, and bubbly champagne makes it even better. This one is perfect for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enjoy guys!!

I am sipping this tonight on Thanksgiving eve as I prep some things for tomorrow, and it is brilliant! My husband LOVES making all your little infused syrups, so he fired this up for me. As a prosecco drinker, I love the fizzy topper!
Hi Nikki,
I am so glad that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a bunch for trying it out! Happy Thanksgiving! xTieghan
I haven’t mixed the bourbon and fizz in yet, but the spiced maple syrup is divine!! And after I was done making it, I boiled more water over the discarded spices to make the best aroma in my house!!
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks so very much for giving this recipe a go, I love to hear that it was enjoyed! Happy Thanksgiving! xTieghan
Can you substitute anything for the anise, or go without? ??♀️ I don’t have any nearby.
Also, can I mix everything including the bourbon and let it chill in the fridge 2 days in advance or no?
Hi Amy,
Yes, you can skip the anise, if you mix ahead leave the bubbly out and add that the day of. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
Love this!
….so I had a few of your various syrups and glass rim coatings from your drink recipes in my fridge. I coated glass rim with coating mix combo. I added bourbon in a shaker the syrup combo, poured in glass and I made a new drink. I call it the Tieghan.
Your teaching us to be creative.
Drink was great.
Hey there,
Awesome! It’s so great to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for giving it a try! xTieghan
Is there a good substitute to give it the “fizz” without using champagne?
You could just use seltzer, if you wanted fizz without extra alcohol!
Hey Kaitlin,
You could try a splash of sparkling water. I hope you enjoy the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
Hi! I’m making these for thanksgiving, and have one guest who doesn’t drink. Is there a mock tail I could use this delicious syrup in for her? Thanks!! I LOVE your recipes!!
Hey Allison,
I would just mix it with some sparkling water or ginger beer. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
Thank you SO MUCH for getting back to me quickly! I made the mock version with ginger beer for the bourbon & topped it with seltzer instead of champagne, and she RAVED about it. I tried one myself & it is fabulous. This drink was such a hit at our Thanksgiving. Thank you for a memorable cocktail that I know we’ll enjoy for years to come!
Hi Allison,

Is it possible to use ground cardamom instead of pods? And how would recommend adjusting the measurements?
Hey Stefanie,
I would recommend using 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamon. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
What champagne would you recommend to top this ?
Hey Franni,
Any champagne that you would typically drink is perfect, I’ve used a variety of brands. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
How long is the Spiced Maple Syrup good for? Should it be stored in the fridge?
Hey Lori,
The syrup is good for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. I hope you enjoy the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
Hi! Two questions: Confirming if you think this should be served over ice? And any amount estimates if all I have is ground cardamom? Thank you!
Hey Elizabeth,
Yes, this is served over ice and I would use about 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamon. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
I put all the ingredients in my pan for the syrup and realized I have no cardamom! Is there something else I can substitute?
Hey Dannielle,
You could use another warm spice like nutmeg or cinnamon. I hope the recipe turns out for you, cheers! xTieghan
Delicious!! I topped it with a very dry Prosecco and it was perfect. Thanks for the inspiration… you’re the GOAT!!
Hey Amy,
Happy Sunday! Love to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a bunch for trying it out! xTieghan
I am making this tonight for 5 people. I altered the recipe to give ingredients for 5, butI noticed the instructions still said to use 1/2 c of water in the maple syrup mixture. Is that correct, or should I adjust up to 2.5 cups since Im making it for 5 people? Thanks!
Hi there! I would adjust up to 2.5 cups! 🙂 xTieghan
Made this last night to try it out before Thanksgiving – I planned to make it our signature cocktail for this year. The components are all good but, for us, the proportions were not right. I would cut way back on the lemon juice and maple mixture. We tried it both with champagne as indicated and also with ginger beer. Ginger beer was the winner for us. The cocktail is absolutely beautiful though – don’t skip the garnishes! Thanks for the inspiration for a wonderful holiday signature cocktail!
Hey there, thanks so much for trying out this recipe! I’m so glad you found a good winner! 🙂 xTieghan
What kind of bourbon did you use?
Hey Casey,
I like Off Hours or 4 Roses bourbon. I hope you love this recipe, cheers! xTieghan
Can you skip or substitute the cardamom?
I am allergic to it.
Yes, you can definitely skip it! xTieghan
This sounds amazing! I’m not a huge bourbon drinker — is there one you’d recommend for this cocktail?
Thanks!
Hi Carly! You could sub rum, brandy, or cognac! xTieghan
