This Spiced Maple Bourbon Fizz is the perfect cozy cocktail. Homemade spiced maple syrup, mixed with warming bourbon, lemon, and orange, then topped off with bubbly champagne for that special November touch. Perfect for the cold nights ahead and upcoming Thanksgiving. Make a large batch to serve to family and friends over the holidays, this is so easy to create.
Once November rolls around, I want nothing more than all things cozy, even my cocktails. To me, November drinks should have warm, spicy flavors. I love notes of bourbon and cinnamon, and then just a touch of sweetness.
Kind of like a warm November hug. So cheesy, I know, but it’s the time of year when my cheesiest self comes out.
I can’t help it, you know I love the holidays.
This one is different, because for once, I’m focusing more on spices and much less on the fruit. I’m a fruity cocktail kind of person, but I’m switching things up. The key to this drink lies within the spiced maple syrup. It’s a mix of sweet maple and warming spices…cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. All simmered together and then finished off with a fresh zest of orange.
When shaken up with bourbon, a squeeze of lemon, and topped off with festive bubbly champagne, it’s sweet, spicy, and so delicious.
I gave you recipes for both a single drink and the punch version. So if you’re serving guests this Thanksgiving, this is the perfect warming cocktail to serve up!
The syrup is the heart of the cocktail, and were a lot of the flavor comes from. The flavors go so well. And as I said, it’s the perfect warming drink for cold nights. I highly suggest making a batch of the spiced syrup this weekend. Then when friends and family randomly show up at your door you can whip up delicious cocktails. Which happens for me quite often.
Nothing is more welcoming than a cozy cocktail. Well, maybe a roaring fire, but that can sometimes be hard to come by. That said, if you can mix up this fun and festive fizz, and stoke up a fire, that’s definitely ideal.
And that’s pretty much it. It’s a classic, but with a seasonal twist, and bubbly champagne makes it even better. This one is perfect for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enjoy guys!!

Making this tonight and wondering…do you store the prepared spiced syrup at room temp or in the fridge?
Same question! How do you store leftovers? Or if you want to make a larger batch for gifting…refrigerate?
Ok, so I just made this. It was SO good! I put a little bit less bourbon, and topped It with Ginger ale and it was Delicious!
Made this last night. It was a big hit. Could not find star anise but it still tasted great! I loved that is full I’d flavor but not too sweet !
Hey Kathy,

Hi there! I would store in the fridge 🙂 xxTieghan
I wonder If I can top it with ginger ale?
Loved this!!! Made it last night for a Friendsgiving and due to stores not having everything I needed, I used ground cardamom and adjusted the amount, and I didn’t have anise, but I’m not a huge licorice fan anyways.
follow up comment that i had leftover syrup that would be delicious for another batch (or even to throw on pancakes) 🙂
Thanks Madeline! xxTieghan

Just made this drink and wow, it is Delicious!! My husband and I love it. I didn’t have fresh ginger but I used ground ginger and it still turned out great. Also I didn’t have champagne and substituted ginger beer.

Tried this tonight and it was the perfect cup of fall! Preferred a smaller glass with less champagne for more flavor! Thanks!
Hey there! Thanks so much for trying out this recipe, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 xTieghan
Can you sub the champagne with Prosecco?
Yes
Hi there! Yes, that should work great! xTieghan
Hi there, if I am making for 8, how many batches of the spiced maple syrup should I prepare?
Thanks!
Hey Sarah,
You will only need to make one batch, you can go ahead and follow the pitcher instructions. I hope you love the recipe, cheers! xTieghan
The recipe says the syrup make enough for six cocktails but the pitcher serves 8?
That is if you are making individual drinks, it will be plenty for the pitcher. Cheers! xTieghan
You do t have water in your list of Ingredients so that’s a tad bit confusing – but this looks fabulous and I’m going to try it very soon!!!
Hi Julia! Sorry for the confusion! Hope you enjoy this recipe 🙂 xTieghan
When storing the syrup, should the solids be removed?
I’m going to strain mine before I store it otherwise I thing it could become too strong – or alter the original flavor!
Hi Judy! You don’t have to remove the solids, it’s up to you! 🙂 xTieghan
Cardamon pods or ground? The photo of the spice maple syrup show pods but the link in the recipe takes you to ground
She uses cardamon pods
Hi there! I usually use ground 🙂 xTieghan
This looks delicious! Will be trying it out this afternoon (for this week’s rugby watching). We love your cocktail recipes!
If I have leftover syrup, how long do you think it will keep?
Hi Katy! Thanks so much, hope you love this recipe! I would say the syrup should be good up to 4-5 days! 🙂 xTieghan
