Salty-sweet Pretzel Snickers Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. Homemade chocolate chip cookies, swirled with salted pretzels, and chewy caramel Snickers bars. There’s nothing not to love about these sweet cookie bars. Each bite is slightly crisp on top, but soft and gooey inside…with pockets of melted chocolate and sweet caramel. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top (if you like) for a salty-sweet touch.
I’ve never been someone who craves candy or gets overly excited about it. I was one of the weirdest kids…trust me. I barely ate any candy at all. BUT, on occasion, I’d happily enjoy some.
Especially on Halloween night. But I wasn’t that weird that I didn’t love filling my pillowcase full of as many Malley’s bars, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and Snickers bars as I could.
The giant Malley’s bars were always my absolute favorite, but Snickers were also up there. My mom uses them in her Christmas Eve Death by Chocolate just for that reason, I really do love them.
With Halloween approaching, I know we’re all stocking up on candy for trick-or-treaters. So make sure you buy extra Snickers. Because you have to make these simple but so delicious cookie bars.
The idea is that you’ll all have leftover Halloween candy. These bars could be the perfect sweet treat to bake them into. They honestly turned out so delicious. I think we need to make them from now through the holidays.
These would be perfect for gifting!!
The details
The cookie base recipe is my go-to. It’s the one my mom used growing up, and the cookies always turned out delicious.
Beat the butter with the sugars, add some eggs, double the vanilla, then add flour. Mix, mix, mix and you’ll have delicious cookie dough. Not fancy, but we all know cookies don’t need to be fancy to be great.
The “special” Halloween touches.
…semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks. Nothing special here, pretty classic but you need them. I prefer chunks because the pockets of melted chocolate are so delicious.
…Snickers candy bars, the most important “special touch”. They add a touch of sweet caramel to every bite.
…salted pretzels and a little pinch of flaky sea salt. For a little salty-sweet touch that makes each cookie truly addicting.
What I love about these cookies is that they’re easy to make, require no chilling, and take less than an hour…so simple.
But my favorite part? These bars are perfectly crisp on top, yet soft, gooey, and almost underdone in the center. Which in my opinion makes for the BEST cookie bars. And if you’re like me, and enjoy cookie bars with sea salt on top…addicting.
I’m not normally such a decadent cookie person. But Halloween always gives me an excuse to have a little more fun with candy.
These would be fun to take to a school event or Halloween party. And as I said, make them with all that leftover Halloween candy. You could certainly swap in your favorite candy in place of the Snickers. Use what you love and enjoy!

These are wonderful!!! The cookie itself is delicious, but the addition of pretzels & snickers is really something special. Making these would be a perfect way to use up extra Halloween candy, too!
Hi there! Thanks so much for trying out this recipe, so glad to hear it was enjoyed! Have a wonderful week! xTieghan
Wow – these were amazing. When I told my family these only got 4 stars they wanted to know what was wrong with the taste buds on the people that gave anything less than 5. These are so so so good! Can’t wait to try again with leftover Halloween candy!
Hi there! Thanks so much for trying out this recipe, so glad to hear it was enjoyed! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
This recipe looks delicious! Just double checking, do I mix in the butter softened at room temperature, or should it be melted prior to mixing?
Hi there! It should be mixed in softened at room temperature 🙂 Enjoy! xTieghan
Does it NEED to be salted butter and dark brown sugar?
Hi there! You can definitely make it with unsalted butter and a different kind of brown sugar, it’s just what I prefer! 🙂 xTieghan
Am i able to sub with almond flour?
thanks in advance!
Hi Sam! Yes, that should work just fine 🙂 xTieghan
Do you think I could substitute Twix bars for the recipe? These look amazing, but my daughter has a peanut allergy! I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!!
Ooooh that sounds amazing! I would definitely try it out! xTieghan
It just recently occurred to me: I’m not far from sea level. Do I need to adjust your recipes due to elevation? I’ve heard baking at high altitudes is very different?
I just made these tonight — so easy to make and so so SO good. Chewy, salty, chocolatey yum. I’m not much of a baker, but I’ll definitely make these again.
Hi Amy! So glad you enjoyed this recipe, thanks so much for giving it a try! 🙂 xTieghan
Ok… I think I made a big mistake by using gluten free pretzels which were all they had at my local market. The pretzel bits are hard as a rock. So – be warned. I will try again another time with regular pretzels because the rest of the cookie tastes great.
Hi there! I normally love everything you do and adore your cookbooks so I feel bad that my first comment is negative, but… I couldn’t wait to make these and I don’t know if I did something wrong but the snickers didn’t really melt and are actually as hard like little pebbles. The rest of the cookie came out great so I’m not sure what the problem is. I used snack sized snickers and “rough chopped them”. I probably wouldn’t make them again for fear of losing a filling.
Please disregard this post as I realized it is the pretzels that are terrible – my bad. Sorry!
Would you use any other Halloween candy? Should you stick to just one flavor of candy bag of mix them up?
These sound amazing! Need to get some Snickers and pretzels… ?xx
One time my cousin made these, but added every single candy bar, and of course it was delicious! But I’m sure the recipe is improved with the self control of only adding snickers and pretzels! Excited to try!
Pretzels and chocolate, my husband’s favorite. I will make soon. I saw you had a give a way on your Instagram page! The kitchen aid mixer was beautiful. I have an Instagram account, but do not know how to tag and do things there. I have tried and failed. I am not too computer savvy, and too old to learn. I wish you would do things on face book, which I do understand. Just an idea for thought from someone that reads your Sunday post, and others faithfully. Keep up the good work, Tieghan.
yum ms tieghan!! have you ever shared your moms death by chocolate recipe? i searched your site and it didnt come up.. is that one a secret?
