Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. Without butter…….
I know, cookies without butter. You are probably thinking I am crazy. But please. DO NOT be scared way.
I mean just look at those rounded guys……..
The pictures speak for themselves.
These cookies are chewy, soft and slightly crumbly (in the best way!). And yes, they are made without any butter. Not even a teaspoon. These are no-butter oatmeal cookies and they are drool worthy!
This cookie recipe has been around for a while. My mom has been making them since I can remember. I believe she got the recipe from her friend Lora. She did not make them because she thought they were a “healthy” cookie. Nope, she made them because they are super quick, super easy and the perfect way to fill your chocolate craving (which in this house could be anytime, 6:00am to the 11:30 pm snack!).
I made these cookies for two reasons.
Since starting this here blog (almost 3 months ago) I have not made these cookies once. Here is the thing. When you have a food blog you constantly need to be trying new recipes, not making old ones. People want to see new and exciting recipes each day. So, this does not leave a whole lot of time (or um, stomach space) to make repeat recipes.
Reason two? Just because the holiday are over does not mean the baking needs to stop. But after all the butter laden holiday treats I wanted something just a tad healthier. I mean they have oatmeal and canola oil (um, hello omega-3’s)! Oh yeah, and maybe just little sugar and chocolate. I mean, they are a cookie!
Oh yeah, did I mention how ridiculously easy these cookie are. Seriously, just throw all the ingredients in a bowl, mix and bake! They are that easy! Which is reason enough to make them.
The cookie dough is very crumbly and the dough balls will not hold together easily. This is ok. The dough binds together during baking and creates the cookies soft and chewy texture.
Trust me it is a good thing these cookies are healthier. There is a good chance you will not be able to stop after 2 or 3 or maybe the whole dozen!

Can I substitute in raisins instead of chocolate chips?
Hey Haley,
Sure, raisins would be awesome! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Friday! xTieghan
Yum! Just found this recipe and made it today. I was worried about the dough as I put it on the sheet, but sure enough they did come together into great cookies! I halved the recipe and didn’t think a full cup of chocolate chips was needed, but other than that I followed all and they turned out great! Thanks!
Thank you so much Julie! That is so amazing to hear! I hope you continue to love these and others! Stay well! xTieghan
They were okay. Not the greatest oatmeal cookie I have ever eaten. I love everything you post, truly. But I won’t make these again. They were waaaayy too crumbly and a real pain.
Hi Kay! I am sorry to hear that! If there are any questions I could help you with, please let me know! xTieghan
I just discovered your blog and this was first recipe I tried. Delicious!! Do you think I can replace with flax eggs next time?
Hi Antoinette! I have never tested this recipe with a flax egg so sadly I am not sure of the results. If you do try it, let me know how it goes. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan ??
These are good! I just tried making them, cutting the recipe in half and using sunflower oil. I also added a bit of skimmed milk. Very good and I already ate 3 of them 🙂
Just made for the second time.. Super yummy! I did cut down on the sugar by about a third as I found them a little sweet.
They were even better that way…
Thanx for the recipe!
YAy!! So happy you loved them! Thanks Caroline!
These are in the oven now!! I didn’t have Conola oil, so I used half a cup of coconut oil and half a cup of applesauce. I also used 1C of white flour and 1C whole wheat flour. I also did half a cup of brown sugar with half a cup of Greek yogurt. The batter tastes awesome, so I’m sure the cookies will too! Thanks for sharing this recipe!!
