Nine Favorite Things

Nine Favorite Things – new york

Hey all! Happy almost 4th of July! It’s crazy that the 4th is already here. I was in a lunch meeting on Friday and we were both saying how fast the summer will fly by after the 4th. I think we all need time to slow down a bit!

Anyway, hello from New York! I’m in the city for a short, sweet trip. I had a couple of meetings that needed to be in person, plus I’ll take any excuse to make it into the city. I really do love it here! So far it’s been an amazing trip. AND, I’m going to see my first Broadway show tonight, so that will be fun! I really have no idea what to expect, but I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m going to share a quick Favorite’s post this week since so many of us are traveling for the 4th! I’m heading back to Colorado today for a few days. Then I’ll be off again on Thursday. I’m finally meeting up with my family for my cousin’s wedding in Cleveland. I really can’t wait, I’ve missed them! I was so bummed to have missed all of the travel they did this month due to work. But at the same time, I’m so excited about the current conversations I’ve been having. So many good things to come!

But again, super excited to be heading home to Cleveland. I’m really looking forward to getting to just hang with my family for a few days. It is going to be so nice!

And I think that’s all I have for today. More updates on New York next week! I will say, I stayed at one of my favorite hotels in the city, Fouquets, so that’s always fun!

Have a great Sunday and the best 4th of July!

Nine Favorite Things

1. things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

wanting…the Orangerie wallpaper from ZAK + FOX. This is so pretty, I’d love to do a sunroom with this wallpaper. Even better if the room went out into a beautiful garden, my dream.

listening to…Call Her Daddy. I’m behind with this podcast I know, but now that I’ve finally listened to a few episodes, I am hooked. I’m listening to old episodes now.

everything in my cart (low)…this embroidered cape skirt is so perfect for summer, easy and adorable. It would work well with this open back ribbed tank. I love an open-back detail. This vintage washed cotton-blend jersey tank from SKIMS is on its way to me now. Also love this sleeveless crewneck tank from Reformation. And also from Ref, are these pretty linen pants and linen dress, and this silk dress. These relaxed cargo pants from Abercrombie would be great for everyday wear. Oh, and I’m obsessed with these baggy wide leg jeans from Favorite Daughter.

A few summer hats, a very cute bucket hat, adore this wide brim straw hat, a simple natural fiber hat, and then, love this packable straw hat. And I just might need to order this straight-crown straw hat. All are super cute and I’m loving myself a hat moment.

And on to bags. This bucket bag from Zara is very cute. This round natural fiber bag from Mango is cute too, and a little more elevated.

Oh, and these leather thong sandals, are amazing for every day yet still very chic.

listening to…Chervin Jafarieh On How To Rid Your Body Of Parasites & Foundational Health Advice For Optimal Human Health. Such an interesting topic that I want to learn more about. I sent this to my brother who found a lot of value in it as well.

dreaming of going…Where to Stay, Eat, and Play on Sicily’s Under-the-Radar Aeolian Islands. Well, our next trip is officially planned.

loving…Interlude. Was recommended this spot by a friend in the city and wow, it’s so good! I ventured out and ordered a honey cappuccino and iced matcha with honey, plus honey scones, which are to die for. Highly recommend if you are in New York City.

using….Cuyana cosmetic travel cases. I’ve been using these for a while and just love them.

loving…Vintner’s Daughter. I’ve used use the brand for years. Their active treatment essence and oil are reoccurring skincare go-to’s.

reading…Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton. I’d like to start reading more biography-style books. I think you can learn so much from people you might never expect. The Harry Potter series is my favorite, so of course, this book interests me.

shopping…a Turkish Indoor/Outdoor Towel and Marble Vanity Tray from Amazon. I need them both, but especially the towel for upcoming pool days. And this is a great basket for storing towels too! Oh, and this Mediterranean Turkish towel is cute too.

wearing…APL sneaks and slides. My mom loves their zipline shoe, and I ordered another pair of slides, this time in chocolate. I love the color. Use code HB15 at checkout for 15% off.

everything in my cart (beauty)…I don’t usually talk shaving, but I just ordered these Gillette Venus Mini Razors and they’re perfect for summer travel.

shopping…Studio McGee for Target.

wanting…to plan a sister trip. This is so special. I want to take Asher to Saint-Tropez. She’d fit right in, I know it. Then a New York weekend would be so fun too!

everything in my cart (high)…I love this very on sale (half off!) AMI Paris off-shoulder striped top in red or navy. So cute for the 4th of July, but also great for summer. And then, this Gucci ice cream tee is also really fun for summer.

Ok, ok and this is a stupid splurge, but I still love it. The Row Caspian baseball cap in dark navy.

shopping…the Serena and Lily sale. They have a great striped quilt, a cute bench, a pretty rattan pendant. And I love this wicker trey. Oh, and I need this sling chair, so comfy!

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: do the grocery stores know your dad by name?
a: Oh they sure do!!! All his besties are at Whole Foods and City Market, our local grocery store.

q: so random but, how did your whole family fit in one car growing up? Did you have a van?
a: I’d have to find a photo, but yes, we had a big ole van growing up. It was sooo bad 😂 My dad wants to get another van now that the family has started to expand again 🙄

q: how do you deal with bad lighting? Do you still film?
a: I do my best to make it work. It’s honestly not that fun when the lighting is horrible but I try to work through it. Thankfully the iPhone camera is really great and helps me out.

q: How do you handle the dark weather days?
a: It was really hard on me this year. I was ready for spring days and instead, we got winter storms. But I surrounded myself with everything that makes me the happiest. I spent way too much on spring candles (but to me they were worth it). I also bought a ton of fresh flowers, cooked with lots of fresh herbs, and tried to create the most spring-like environment I could for myself. I’ve been traveling whenever possible too, which of course helps a lot. And then I’ve also been making an effort to call someone every night to check in and see how they are doing. Oh!! And I started to use the Higher Dose infrared sauna blanket, more to come, but the heat alone is so relaxing.

q: were you ever shy about recording in public and taking photos?
a: Yess! I still am 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s why I don’t share more of my day-to-day. I get self-conscious about filming in front of others so often. It’s something I’m trying to work on so I can share more of life with you all

q: can you explain your Nine Favorite Things? It seems like way more than 9 things!
a: When I started Nine Favorite Things years ago, it really was just 9 favorite things all listed out. Pretty short and sweet, with not too much writing, and just one photo. Over time, the posts became popular and I began sharing a lot more of my life within these Favorite’s posts. And somehow now, these posts have become massive. There are still technically nine favorites listed, but there is a lot under each “favorite”. So many photos, links, fashion finds, home finds, decor, family stuff, work stuff, and travel recaps. It’s really everything I’ve done and loved from the week. I start working on these posts the second we hit publish on Sunday’s post. They now take me all week to put together. I do have a lot of fun with them…but they’re a lot to put together.

q: why do you post your stories so late at night? Do they get more views?
a: No. They probably get fewer views by posting so late. It’s just when I have the time.

q: do you like being recognized by fans?
a: Of course! Someone came up to me in Whole Foods today and I think it made both of our days 🤍 then 4 other people came up and said “hi” when they saw this woman hugging me. Don’t ever be shy! I love to hi. It still amazes me every day.

q: do you drink the milk from the goats or make cheese from it?
a: We drink the milk.

q: how do stay you so fit with all the cooking you do?
a: I hike every day and I’m on my feet pretty much all day long!

– my genetics play a big role

– I’ve been doing light stretching/strength for 10ish minutes every day

– I really want to get into Pilates. I went to a Pilates class when I was in LA and really enjoyed it.

q: did you have a favorite book in middle school?
a: I used to love The Boxcar Children books when I was way young. Does anyone remember those?! Then Harry Potter was really the only book series I ever read from start to finish (and I listened on tape)

5. An easy summer bucket list.

I make these huge bucket lists of all things I want to do, but in the end, I do maybe one or two of them. I’m taking the pressure off this summer with a very easy list that I can bang out while in Cleveland with my family.

  1. ice cream date with Asher and my mom.
  2. watch the sunrise and set over the lake while soaking in the humid east coast weather. I miss it!
  3. wear a pretty summer dress
  4. spend a low-key night with my mom and dad just sitting in the backyard
  5. get lost in a summer book, mindless TV, or a podcast
  6. pick all the summer flowers. Our dahlias are growing!

It’s the simplest of things for me.

what’s on your “easy summer bucket list”?

  1. Hi Tieghan! My family and I recently vacationed near Breckenridge. When I got home and was looking through photos I was like “ Those mountains sure look like the ones in the background of Tieghan’s posts.” Sure enough, I found out you live near the area. With the amount of trail running I did out there I was surprised I didn’t run into you! Next time!

    1. Hey Morgan,
Thanks for reading! Lol too funny, I stay close to my house with the hikes so I don’t have to drive anywhere! I hope you had a great time in Breck! xT

  2. I do not exercise at times when places are open and it doesn’t sound like you would either, so I wanted to share that there’s a woman on youtube.com named Kaylie Daniels who has various length workouts and has some pilates ones that you could try…she also has yoga and others too. I really like her style. Thanks

    1. Thanks so much for sharing Beth!! I’ll definitely have to check her out! Have a great week! xT

  3. Hey Tieghan,

What a great Nine Favorite Things I love to read it each week. A few things to say you’re fashion choices are always spot on well done!! Your outfits are always so cute and stylish. The choices you share that are in your cart look like great choices as well. That’s exciting you get to go back to Cleveland for the wedding. My godparents are from Cleveland and that is where I was born as well in Solon. What part of Cleveland are you from?? When your there do you have any great restaurants you like to make sure and visit?? My next try recipe you just posted is Strawberry Tiramisu. It looks nothing short of heavenly!! I like you thought outside the box and switched it up and went a non traditional route. Those Smores ice cream sandwiches look like a must make very soon. Which of the two desserts I mentioned was your favorite? I’m not the biggest dessert person but, with recipes like those two I cant wait to make them. Thanks so much!! Have a great 4th and fun with the family in Cleveland.

    1. Since you mentioned shaving, I will share that I used to use the Gillette venus line and recently switched to a metal safety razor. It’s a pretty rose gold one and I wish I had done it a long time ago. SO many benefits. Closer shave, no more under arm rash, no chemicals (depending on shave soap), better for environment, more cost effective. Highly recommend!

    2. Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for reading each week! Yup, can’t wait to go to Cleveland for a few days, I grew up on the westside in Rocky River:) Bearden’s is always a fave when we’re in town and some Mitchell’s Ice Cream! The s’mores ice cream sandwiches were perfect for the 4th, let me know if you give the tiramisu a try! Have a great week! xT

  4. OMG, the Little House on the Prairie books are really good, too! I read them when I was in my 40’s, believe it or not, because I was too young to read them in the 70’s, then the show came on, so I watched that and never picked up the books. But there’s a lot going on that they never put in the shows (and a whole lot they added)….it’s nice, relaxing stuff, and the stories make you want to be in the “great woods” with her!

    1. Hi Mich,
Yes, such classic books!! Thanks so much for reading and sharing:) Hope you are having a great holiday! xT

  5. @ Dale Ashera-Davis – sounds awful! Hope everyone feels better soon. Nothing like illness to ruin a good time.

I, like many others, look forward to Nine Favorite Things every week. Though many of the items you share are out of my budget, I still enjoy learning about them and seeing what you find cute, pretty, etc. Your recipes are always so creative and look yummy. We have made several.

Hope you enjoy your time in Cleveland with family! Stay safe and well.

    1. Hi Terri,
Happy Monday! Thanks so much for reading each week! I’m so glad you have been enjoying the content, a lot of it is just fun for me to put together! Happy 4th of July! xT

  6. Hey T! It’s been in the high 80s all week in NY, and so humid. I’m sure you were dying in all of those long sleeves!! Would love to see some fun summer looks from your trip! I need some inspo for my next trip to the city but I’m not really looking for long sleeve/pant options lol

    1. I always take a sweater with me everywhere in the summer. Most places have the AC blasting and I end up freezing. Just saying…

      1. I think it’s a valid request! Lifestyle influencers field questions like this ALL the time. The NYC outfits feel so much more wintery than what she’s linking out (for commission) on these NFT posts! If T’s goal is to pivot more to lifestyle content I’d also like to see more of what is included in the blog irl. T has always welcomed feedback, I think this is harmless, no need to attack!

        1. Sara’s comment didn’t seem at all like an an attack. What made you think that? She was only stating her own experiences of freezing with the AC, and bringing a sweater. Also a very valid point.

      1. I’d like to see more of these linked looks on you too! Do you own any of these pieces or are they just inspo? Too many black sweaters for 73% humidity!!

  7. I loved the box car books!!!!! I read many of them to my kids who are now 16 and 18. We named our dog Benny because of those books!!! Thank you for the sweet memory.
I also read the Outlive book that your dad was reading a few weeks ago, excellent read. A little science- y, but manageable if you like reading about optimizing health.
Thank you for all your hard work!

    1. Hi Sheila,
Thanks so much for reading today! Awe, love that you guys have a dog named Benny, so cute!! Happy to share on the Outlive book! Have a great 4th of July! xT

  8. Made the tomato peach burrata salad for dinner last night. Added some arugala. Delicious! Went great with a Sequoia Grove Sav Blanc

    1. Thanks so much for trying the recipe Cindy! So glad to hear that it turned out well for you! Have a great Sunday! xT

  9. LOVE “9 Favourite Things”-Sunday morning ritual is reading it in bed while drinking home made latte! It’s a lot to put together every week, but please know how
    much it’s appreciated.
We were in VA last weekend for a family wedding. Two days after our return we got a call that a number of guests had tested positive for COVID. My wife tested negative (she has since tested positive) & what I thought was an upper respiratory infection turned out to be COVID. After 3+ years of being so careful, complete vax’s and triple boosters… So please enjoy your family wedding but be careful also! Safe travels

    1. Hi Dale,
Thanks so much for reading each week! Thanks for sharing your advice for the family wedding, sorry to hear you guys ended up sick! Hope you are recovery well and having a great weekend! xx
