Nine Favorite Things

Happy December everyone!

December first hit and it has turned into a winter wonderland up here in the mountains. We have full coverage of snow and brrr, it is cold. But very pretty and festive of course! I’m loving every minute of it!

I think we all know just how exciting this time of year is. And how happy it makes me feel! Even under a lot of stress and pressure, the joy of the season brings me so much happiness. It can be hard to manage everything, and the to-do list never-ending, but even still, this season is magical!

There is so much excitement for what’s to come. This year, more than any other, there seems to be so much anticipation, talk, and chatter for the holiday to come. Lots of prep and planning, and of course shopping.

But what’s always most important to remember is the real meaning behind the season. Celebrating with loved ones, giving back when possible, and remembering to lead with kindness and generosity. It’s a time for giving and thinking of others. Taking the time to really think about that one special gift that could really make a difference in someone’s life? How to lend a helping hand? And of course, remembering all that we have to be thankful for!

It’s can be so easy to get caught up in the shopping, party planning, and nights spent celebrating. We can forget to stop and remember what this time of year is all about. I guess I’m encouraging us all to stop and remind ourselves to slow down. Enjoy every minute of this special time, and think of others first. Small acts of kindness…helping someone with their groceries, offering to babysit, or even buying the person behind you in line a cup of coffee. These small acts can really turn someone’s day around!

I didn’t plan on going on a rant there, but I needed this reminder myself!

Moving along! My family, mom, dad, Creighton, Asher, and Oslo are in Europe living their best life. They spent this last week in Paris and are now spending time in Prague before heading to Vienna, and Munich! Their trip looks amazing and I can’t wait to take Asher back to Paris sometime in the very near future!

As for me, I’m currently in Colorado, but prepping for some travel myself. I’ve been cooking and baking a lot this week. I’ve had many frustrating failed cookie recipes, but I’ve also had a handful of successes. I can’t wait to share them over the next two weeks! ‘Tis the season!

My dad cut me down a fresh Christmas tree before heading off. But as I was taking my time to decorate it I began to realize that it was very much dying, which is so sad! Someone help! I need a real, live fresh tree!! All I want is a good Charlie-Brown-style tree. Cute, small, and unique! I’ll have to wait until I get back from traveling, but don’t worry, I’m going to get just the right tree the second time around!

Not much else to really report. If you missed it, we shared out BIG 2022 Christmas gift guide this week. The team and I spent weeks putting this together, it’s our best gift guide yet! Hoping it helps you find some wonderful ideas!

Have a great Sunday and enjoy this week’s December favorites!

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

1. Things I’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

wanting…every sold out pair of UGGS. I love the UGG Neumel Suede Platform Ankle Boots in chestnut, but they are sold out everywhere. So then I kept looking and found the UGG Neumel Heritage Platform Chukka Boot, but they are sold out too. Something about UGGs. They sell out every single Christmas!

everything in my cart (low)…love this hooded long sleeve tee from Alo. It’s on sale too! It would be cute with this cable knit beanie from UGG. Or try that cute hat with this structured cable knit sweater from & Other Stories or maybe this long quilted puffer from Abercrombie.

listening to…Hailey Bieber on Call Her Daddy. You never know what people are going through and I loved learning about her struggles. People on the internet can be so mean. Always remember there is a real person behind the screen.

everything beauty…all things Laneige. I read that the brand Hypoallergenic Cica Sleeping Mask is the one product you need to help reduce redness. I still need to try their Lip Sleeping Mask with Vitamin C. And then, their Lip Glowy Balm in any shade is a fun stocking stuffer.

Speaking of lip treatment, my all-time favorite peptide lip treatment from Rhode Skin is finally back in stock. Hurry, it sells out fast.

And last, almost everything from Tatcha. Their hand cream is my favorite, and their dewy skin cream and indigo overnight repair are hydration staples. They feel amazing on the skin. I love the dewy serum as well, and then the body butter! Love the body butter!

Oh, and Kora Organics. I LOVE their turmeric face mask. Their vitamin C face cream is wonderful and I’m testing out the Noni oil now after listening to Miranda, the founder speak about it.

ordered… both The North Face Nuptse mid jacket and Bogner Saelly Ski Jacket . I desperately need a new puffer, trying both of these.

order…the Apple airpods max. Our giveaway for these is live on Instagram right now!

loving…every single splurge-worthy coat from Khaite. The Raphael puffer, Faza Jacket, Balton blazer, and Plimpton puffer are all on my Christmas list.

reading…One December Day. We all need a good Christmas book!

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

Supporting…Advocates for Children and Families (ACF). Most of you know adoption is near and dear to my heart. ACF has been serving children and families for 30 years. ACF is known for finding forever homes for the most medically fragile children.

Every child deserves a permanent, safe, and nurturing home. ACF has had 100% success in finding families for the most medically fragile infants. This Giving Tuesday week HBH is matching up to $20,000 in donations made to ACF.

If you are able, you can make a donation here.

loving…Dyson kids toy vacuum. Oslo has this and loves playing with it while my dad vacuums. It’s so cute. We just got 2 more for my nephews for Christmas. Also, I grabbed a big people Dyson for my brother too. I got him the Dyson slim, which is my favorite, I love my Dyson.

wanting…Dyson hair care. Everyone is always talking about how good the Dyson hair products are, which is the best to get?

watching…Something From Tiffany’s. This looks so cute. It premieres December 9th on Amazon and I can’t wait. Also, see my giant Christmas to-watch list below.

thinking about…the Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug for my mom. I think she needs this for her daily hot cocoa! Also, the MIKO Foot Massager Machine for my brother. But will he like it?

everything in my cart (high)…this Prada mini satin mini pouch is a fun holiday look. Same with the Prada pointed toe pumps. I love the way this Gucci wool coat looks with knee high boots. This wool blend coat from Reformation is much more affordable however and similar.

And lastly, this Totême cashmere coat is pure luxury. It would be cute with this Khaite calfskin bag.

shopping…for Asher and my mom. Any ideas? I’ve ordered a couple of things (I can’t say here, my mom edits these!). But I always love your ideas! Especially for Asher.

drinking….Christmas Vacation Dirty Chai Cocktail (with mocktail).

watching…Christmas at the Plaza. This one is old, but I love it.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: Just wanted to say how proud I am of your accomplishments. Been your Follower 4 ever.
a: You guys, messages like these 🧡🧡 mean so much to me! You’re the reason why I’m so excited to jump out of bed every day and keep working 24/7. You’re always my biggest supporters and always cheering me on. We really feel like family!!

q: what would little Tieghan think of you now?
a: She would have never, ever guessed that she could have built all that I have built. Like never in a million years. I’ve always doubted myself and what I could do. I still do, but I do know that I can do more than I think I can.

q: favorite pajama recommendations?
a: I always get the flannel PJs from J Crew this time of year. I’m a sucker for the holiday plaid colors. They’re on sale right now too – 50% off!! Love that.

If you want to splurge I am seriously considering this cashmere set from Naked Cashmere. I’m also a sucker for cashmere. It’s worth every penny. I love every piece from White + Warren. Their cashmere pants and socks are worth it.

Also, these Alo cashmere pants are another grea.

q: do you like silver or gold jewelry?
a: I used to just say gold, but I’m loving mixing gold and silver right now.

q: What are your family’s Christmas traditions?
a: We don’t have any super special traditions, but here are some of my favorites. I love cutting down our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving Day. Listening to music throughout December, Hallmark movies, beef tenderloin on Christmas Eve, and monkey bread on Christmas morning. We’re always together for Christmas week and New Years’. Everyone comes to CO. We always do a sleigh ride dinner while everyone is here. There are like 20 people crammed into my parent’s house with my siblings + cousins, then girlfriends, a husband, wives, and now kids!! Complete chaos but also wouldn’t change it for the world.

q: how do you suggest someone gain confidence in the kitchen?
a: Cook every day. Follow people you admire and just keep cooking. The more you cook, the more confidence you will have. And remember it’s just food, if you mess up just try again another day. You can always order pizza!

q: do you do all your own food prep or do you have help?
a: I don’t usually grocery shop, and my dad helps me clean at the end of the day. But everything else I do! That means I’m chopping, prepping, washing, cooking, styling, etc.

q: It’s hard not to notice how hard you work! How do you stay consistent?! Even while traveling?
a: I really love what I do and I love sharing with you guys. The fact that you allow me into your homes/lives by cooking my recipes continues to keep me inspired. I love being able to share easy recipes with you that can help you enjoy good food and family even more. I love sharing my style and life with you all. And I love being a happy, positive place you can come to when things can sometimes feel down or scary. Plus I have soooo much more planned for HBH. It excites me daily!! Only more to come.

Favorite holiday cookie-Roasted chestnut cookies; similar to a Mexican wedding cookie
Favorite parts of the holiday season-cooking, baking and attending a holiday concert with family

    Happy Holidays!

    1. Hey there,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your favorite holiday movie and cookie! I love hear about your favorite parts of the holiday season! Happy Holidays! xx

  2. Hi Tieghan: I enjoyed the picture of Oslo in front of Santa. Also the pictures your parents send you they are beautiful also I m sure your niece of going to remember the wonderful time she spent in France especially being so close to Christmas.

  3. Paying for the person behind you in line is great! Random acts of kindness can really make someone’s day. In my community there is a movement to instead donate to students with negative lunch account balances at school. Love the idea of giving back to children who may be going without due to situations beyond their control.

  4. Hi, Tieghan! Your family looks like they’re having fun! Oslo’s so cute. We just put up our Christmas tree on Saturday and there’s nothing quite like decorating it. It’s so magical, despite it being almost 80 degrees here in Texas. 🙁 But I’m going to be baking your vanilla slice and bake cookies soon! I’m so excited for all the fun traditions to start up again! I’m going to be making cinnamon rolls, a gingerbread cake, and candied pecans for my family on Christmas. I love to bake, and This time of year is perfect for it. Happy Holidays! Abigail

    1. Hi Abigail,
Thanks so much for reading the post!! Oslo is the best:) How exciting that you got your Christmas tree up! Let me know how the cookies turn out, I hope you love them! Holiday traditions really are the best:) Happy Holidays! xT

  5. I notice that a lot of your delicious chicken recipes include rice. Are you able to provide some chicken recipes without rice.

      1. It’s very popular right now, Tieghan. Will dry your hair in a fraction of the time than the Dyson, will not damage your hair because it isn’t as “over hot” as the Dyson. There is even a setting that will automatically cycle between cool and warm to protect your hair. It is getting rave reviews on IG. Also, much less pricey than the Dyson. Just a suggestion of something else to look at….

  6. Thank you for such a fun post, so many great recipes, holiday movie suggestions and gift ideas! If you haven’t seen Hallmark’s Three Wise Men & a Baby yet I would highly recommend it, it features 3 leading men and was pretty funny! I bought myself the Dyson supersonic hairdryer back in April and it really has made a huge difference in my hair, I absolutely love it and would highly recommend it.
Thanks for sharing the pics of your family’s vacation what an amazing time of year to go there!
Also a big thank you for all that you do to make each of our lives a little brighter. You make the world and our meal times definitely a much better place!

    1. Hey Lori,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along! So glad you enjoyed the post:) So great that you have been enjoying the Dyson hair dryer! Happy to share all of the photos:) Also, thanks so much for your kind message and making so many recipes! xT

  7. Love the acts of kindness reminders! Something I was taught once that I like to remember, is that instead of paying it forward by buying the customer behind you a coffee, put that money in the tip jar instead. The other customers are there because an expensive drink is likely no big deal for them to afford, but the employees are working hard and could probably use that extra few dollars!

    1. Hey Sara,
Thanks so much for reading! I love this suggestion to add the money to the tip jar, definitely makes more sense:) Hope you’re off to a great week! xT

  8. Love all your gorgeous Christmas cookies! So pretty.

Paris pictures are fabulous! I hope your Mom, Dad, Creighton, Asher and Oslo are have a great time! Olso doesn’t look quite sure about Santa Claus yet!

    Have a great week. Xx

    1. Hi Kelly-Jane,
Awe thank you so much:) I know they are having the best time! Lol right?! The pictures of Oslo and Santa are the best! Happy Monday! xT

  9. Thanks for sharing the photos of your family’s trip to Paris. Took my sister to Paris last year and the photos bring back great memories. Have a wonderful Christmas! PS: My family loves your recipes. And I’ve given your 1st cookbook as gifts to lots of friends…

    1. Hey Uli,
Of course, happy to share! So fun that you and your sister went last year! Thanks so much for making so many recipes and gifting the cookbook to others:) Happy Monday! xx

  10. Glad I went to the website to find todays NFT blog. My email this morning was a repeat of the holiday gift guide. Was a bit disappointed.

    1. Hi Melanie,
Thanks for reading! Sorry about the email, I see the Nine Favorite Things email has gone out, have you still not received it? If so, you can email contact@halfbakedharvest.com so my team can make sure your settings are set correctly:) Happy Sunday! xT

  11. OMG! That very first photo is a jaw dropper!! We are fortunate enough to go to Europe a fair amount but never at Christmas. It is a total bucket list trip for me! I am so sad you are not there. While I can not imagine taking a toddler on a trip like that (nor can I imagine not taking him, LOL) the photos of Oslo are so fun! Dyson hair drier. I have a pixie so I don’t bother with a dryer. We spent Thanksgiving at our home in Naples, FL. We had to get back to assess the damage from Ian. Extended family joined us and stayed at a place that had the queen of Dyson hair driers. All the ladies now want that hair drier. At $500 a crack it seems a bit absurd but sometimes one just needs a crazy crazy perk that changes hair life. Upon returning to the tundra this past week in Minnesota I treated myself to a little perk. Icebug boots with studs. I walk 10 miles a day no matter what and at my age I am starting to worry about falling, especially on the icy walk ways. Like you I love this time of year. I am busy pouring 2000 homemade caramels, 200 turtles and 300 pieces of toffee. It is consuming but I love it. One last comment. Your hallmark movie list is missing the one about the Rocketts. We watched it last night, very fun. If you are in NY between now and the new year get yourself a ticket to see the show. It is mind blowing. Also if you need a completely non Christmas movie I highly recommend Drop Out on Hulu, the Elizabeth Holmes story – total rabbit hole. I can’t stop googling about her now. LOL. Merry Merry, T. Have a great couple of weeks.

    1. Hey Cari,
Happy Sunday and thanks for reading!! Right?! The photos are amazing, I can only imagine being there! How nice to have spent some time in Florida for Thanksgiving, I hope you didn’t have too much damage from the hurricane. Lol I totally am with you on the Dyson, I don’t love doing my hair so not sure it’s something I would use all that much! So awesome that you walk 10 miles each day, that’s amazing! Thanks for sharing the Hallmark movie, I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one! Have a great week:) xTieghan
