Blackberry Lavender White Chocolate Clafoutis | halfbakedharvest.com @hbharvest

This blackberry lavender white chocolate clafoutis is high on my list of weekend activities and I am going to try to convince you to make it high on yours too!

But first, happiest Friday everyone! I feel like I’ve been in go mode all week, so I have to say that I’m pretty excited for the weekend. Although it’s kind of a busy weekend ahead, as we’re filming new recipe videos for the site on both Saturday and Sunday. However, on Sunday night I have a fun dinner to head to in Boulder. So all good things…only a little bit crazy!

Question, did anyone else’s week feel like a complete blur? Because that was totally my week, which is not really a bad thing, but man, time should really just slow down. Good news is that I have so many fun things to share with you all, keeping it all hush, hush for the moment, but soon enough I will let you guys in on everything that’s been happening behind the scenes!!

Since I’m basically dying to tell you everything, let me give you all a few hints. The cookbook is involved, there’s possibly some fun design stuff incorporated, a little bit of barn talk, and HBH may or may not be getting a whole new look sometime very soon…

More to come…mwahahaha.

In the meantime, we have very sweet, summery dessert things to chat about today!

Yeah, yum, and yes, please!

Okay, so have you guys heard of a clafoutis? A couple of summers ago I posted a fun raspberry, nectarine and sweet corn clafoutis on the site, but today’s clafoutis has won my heart over. It’s sweet, simple, and loaded to the brim with blackberries, which are definitely one of my favorite berries!

Plus the combo of blackberries, lavender, and white chocolate? Well, it’s pretty much perfection. I did this combo with my very first scone recipe last year and ever since then I’ve been obsessed with combining these three ingredients. It’s one of my favorites for sure.

Not going to lie though, originally this was supposed to be some kind of cake, but then I sent a quick text to my mom giving her the option of cake verses an eggy clafoutis and she immediately came back at me saying the clafoutis was totally the way to go. Instead of going back and forth like I normally would, I just decided to listen to her (for once, I tend to ask her opinion and then sway my own way…oooops) and started cooking.

I think I knew in the back of my head that this was the way to go because of how quick, simple and easy clafoutis are to make.

Oh, and if you’re unfamiliar with a clafoutis, it’s a french fruit dessert that’s a little more dense than say a dutch baby. It’s typically made with cherries (at least that’s what Julia Child used anyway). However, me being me, I switched things up and used blackberries and lavender. <– again I love this combo.

Here’s how this easy dessert works:

Blend everything but the berries and white chocolate in a blender. Transfer to a buttered baking dish and top with blackberries.

Bake.

Dust with a generous amount of powdered sugar.

EAT.

Four simple steps and so delicious.

The white chocolate is totally not needed, but it does add a special sweet and unsophisticated touch to this rather sophisticated dessert, which I kind of like, because if you meet me in real life, you’d see that I am the least fancy person around. Jeans and a t-shirt girl over here, but then I guess I do sometimes get fancy with food…

Anyway, point is, this dish is fancy meets not so fancy, and I think it works. Balance people, balance. This is great as an easy after dinner dessert, or served up for a Saturday or Sunday brunch, either way it’s pretty delicious.

And one note about the lavender, if you don’t want a super strong flavor use about 2-3 teaspoons dried lavender, if you’re a lavender lover, go for about 1 1/2 tablespoons. I found that 1 tablespoon was perfect. And of course, if you’re completely opposed to lavender you can simply omit it, but I urge you to give it a try, it’s the perfect pairing with the blackberries. Trust me.

Lastly? If you wanted to just make this + a movie your Friday night, I would totally get that.

Sometimes summer nights should be all about hanging with friends, fireworks (have you guys been watching my instagram stories?), and staying up all night (ahhhh…..I actually don’t think I’ve ever done that), but sometimes a good night-in is just what we all need!

My suggestion?

Make…

…these Thai Coconut Mussels…honestly one of my favorite recipes of the summer.

…sip on this cocktail…or wine, but this is one of my goto’s (although I have a new one coming tomorrow)

…bake up this clafoutis…eat warm, maybe even with ice cream. I mean, I would…just sayin’,

And that right there is my perfect Friday night…then again I am semi-lame and act like a 60 year-old trapped in a 23 year-old’s body. But whatever, I’m OK with it.

OK and DONE. Happy Friday!

  1. I’ve made this twice already! I am in the Congo so blackberries are hard to come by – I’ve substituted strawberries and canned cherries which have both worked out. When it’s passion fruit season (in the next few months) I’ll be trying that as well! Thanks for the simple and delicious recipe Teighan.

    1. Oh wow!! SO cool that your making my recipes! So happy it was good with strawberries and cherries!
Can’t wait for passion fruits! Thanks Barbara!

  2. Ok, so “10 inch dish”…10 in round? 10 in square? 10 in on one side? I’m confused because your pictures are clearly rectangular.. Just want to make sure since the dish size will totally affect the baking time. Love your site and can’t wait to try this one!!

    1. Hey Dawn! mine was a 9×7 rectangle baking dish! So sorry I did not specify! Let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this!

  3. Look Amazing! nice foods. I can’t stop myself without eating it. I love white chocolate.Recipe is easy and fast to prepare.I totally love your recipes.Keep on sharing more easy and quick recipes. And applied chocolate syrup on the top and it tasted Yum!

  4. I baked this on a whim with what I had in the house, so I switched lavender with a fair amount of sage and the white chocolate with a lemon + powdered sugar drizzle. Completely different flavor profile, but one I’d highly recommend.

  5. Happens to be one of my favorite desserts Tieghan! Love the white chocolate with the blackberries and lavender! So excited for the cookbook and HBH news too! Have a great weekend.

    1. So happy you like it Mary Ann! I love hearing how excited you are it just gives me a little bit more!! Its the best!

  6. NOow, this is interesting. My mother called yesterday saying ripe blackberries are waiting for me. Guess what shall I do with them 🙂 🙂

  7. I remember the first time I tried to buy lavender, I panicked because it was like $40 a pound in the bulk section which I realized after I had grabbed some! Obviously it weighs a fraction of an ounce though, haha. I’m all in on these lovely summer fruit recipes!

    1. Haha so so funny, I was confused my first time too!!
So happy you like the recipes (: Thanks Lindsey!

  8. This sounds perfect to use up some of the fresh blackberries I have from the farmers market! And I always keep some dried lavender on hand. I love the flavor it brings to baked goods. So delicate. One question. What form of white chocolate did you use? Chunk, chip, mini chip?

    1. Update: made this yesterday. I went ahead and used white chicolate chips. And I used the one and a half tablespoons of dried lavender that you recommended if you’re a lavender lover. This is great! The amount of lavender was perfect. Subtle but still there. And the white chocolate chips worked well. It had to bake mine for about 15 minutes longer which worried me since that was half the total baking time. I’m wondering if the hot and humid summer weather could have anything to do with that?

      1. So happy you loved this! Yes, the humid weather could have required you to bake this long because of the extra moisture in the air. Thanks for the kind feedback! 🙂

      1. Hey Tieghan,
My question was more so what FORM the white chocolate you use comes in? From the store. Like chips or chunk or a block of white chocolate that you have cut up yourself? But using the white chocolate CHIPS turned out perfectly. I really really love the lavender notes. My friends and family loved this too ☺️ Another “cookbook” keeper from you. Thanks!

  9. YESSSSS WHITE CHOCOLATE! It IS needed, haha. And this was totally meant to be a Clafoutis recipe – love it 🙂 Happy weekend to you!
