Miami beach – Nine Favorite Things

Hello from Miami! I flew in to meet my family Thursday night and it’s so nice to be in the Florida heat for a few days. Originally, we wanted to go somewhere in the Bahamas, but all the travel just started to become a lot. We keep it simple and head to Florida, since we love it here too! We’re here for a few more days, if you have any Miami favorites, please let me know! I would love to hear the best places to visit.

We’ll try to keep today’s favorite post to a minimum, since my mom will potentially kill me if I spend all day working on this…

Sharing a big LA trip recap below. We’re here in Miami till Wednesday, which will be great. My mom is already planning the next family trip. So I get the feeling it really is going to be a summer of travel. For once, that’s totally fine with me. I’m oddly looking to travel more, see more, and do more. I’ve been having a lot of fun getting to experience new places. It’s not the easiest for me to travel. There’s always a lot of work involved beforehand and then content to manage while traveling. But as I’ve said before, it’s worth it.

I love the new inspiration and even more than anything, the change of pace. It’s good to switch up my routine every once and a while.

Here’s one thing I will say about being in Florida though, I miss my grandma. I miss their home down in Jupiter, I miss the specialness she added to every trip. And more than anything, I miss getting to spend time with her one-on-one. Nonnie and I had a really special relationship. She made every outing special, whether it was on vacation in Florida or back at home. I’m sad Asher and Oslo will never get to experience that or even really get to know her (Asher was almost 9 when she passed). But I know she’s with us in some way, and I’m grateful that I get to have those memories to hold onto.

I want to get Asher to Palm Beach and share with her all the things that Nonnie shared with me.

Ok, quick recap today and some shorter lists below, but as always, back to normal next week!

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

1. Things I’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

loving…my Anine Bing Lizzie slides and tall Tania boots. I have both with me. The boots I wore in LA pretty much every day. And slides I’m living in here in Florida. Both are comfortable yet so cute.

listening to…Move With Heart with Melissa Wood. Her latest episode is with her husband and they talk about how he helped her realize she was ready for motherhood. Honestly, it’s just a cute listen, especially if you follow Melissa personally.

dreaming of going…to Palm Beach. Love this Vogue guide on Palm Beach.

eating at… High Pie at the Top Gun House, a dessert-driven eatery at Mission Pacific Hotel in Oceanside, California. How fun is this? Some of my brothers live in Oceanside, so I’ll definitely check this cute spot out next time I’m in town. And the Mission Pacific Hotel too, it looks super cute.

ordering…the Christy dress from Realisation. Sadly it didn’t come in time for Florida, but I love this dress.

loving…this week’s Zara finds. This cut out linen dress is great for summer days. I also love this ribbed t-shirt in all colors. It looks great when paired with jeans.

loving…this week’s Zara home finds. I’m obsessed with this crab pitcher. It’s not my usual type of pick, but it’s so cute for summer entertaining. Also, I adore these adorable earthenware fish plates that match the crab collection. Honestly, you should just shop the entire look because it’s so freaking cute for summer parties. Really love this salad bowl, again great for entertaining. This is a pretty colander, nice for summer produce. And then this ceramic vase for spring/summer florals.

watching…Emmy Rossum Vogue Beauty Secrets. I love that she uses IS Clinical products. They’re my favorite too.

shopping….Minna Goods. Just discovered this home site and I’ve been exploring their tabletop collection. It’s a little pricey, but they do have some unique pieces like this cute bowl.

following…nobody new, who do you love to follow?

loving…these washable silk boxer shorts. A splurge, but as someone who was a major tomboy growing up and lived in my brother’s boxers, I love that boxer shorts are having a major moment for women. These lounge boxers from Eterne are so so comfortable. And these boxers from J. Crew are really cute too.

watching…Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants on HBO Max with Asher. Nothing new, but such a cute chick flick kind of movie. Also, I just saw that Netflix has Soul Surfer now. I’ve never seen it, but I’m going to try and get Asher to watch it with me. And New York Minute with Mary-Kate and Ashely. Love that Netflix finally has a Mary-Kate and Ashley movies!

loving…2022 Cannes Film Festival looks. I always have fun scrolling through different looks, but honestly, I don’t usually have the time. I loved Anne Hathaway’s look, Julia Roberts’ suit was classic, and I thought that Elle Fanning looked so sweet in her princess Armani Privé dress. And while this isn’t something I would wear, Caroline Daur wore a fun pink Valentino look.

4. Favorite questions of the week.

q: if you could get any facial treatment done, what would you do?
a: I really want to try a lymphatic drainage massage. You can have one done just to your face, but I’ve been hearing so much about how good they are for the whole body…so I’m curious!! If you’re looking to get a facial, I highly recommend going to Dr. Barbara Sturm, it’s always amazing

q: you wrote a cookbook. You’re on the NYT bestseller list! Now what?
a: Haha! Hopefully only bigger and better things ? No, but honestly, I’m excited for new opportunities and to share new things with you guys!! The books are amazing, and I’m so happy you love them (thank you!), but hopefully, there’s so much more to come!

q: what’s your favorite kind of positive feedback to hear from your followers?
a: This is hard because sometimes the positive feedback I get can almost bring me to tears (fun fact, I don’t cry that easy, only if talking to my mom). But in general, this right here pretty much sums it up, “thank you for inspiring me to cook again :)”

q: I gifted your cookbook to my brother. He told me today that his twins (2 years old) ask to read it every night!!
a: so I’ve gotten similar messages before and I find this not only so funny (just because it’s shocking to me that a kid has interest in a cookbook) but so cute!! I love that kids enjoy the book too!

q: my son has celiac and it’s challenging being creative, any chance for a gluten-free cookbook?
a: The new book has a lot of naturally gluten-free recipes, plus recipes that are easily adaptable to be gluten-free!

q: do you think you’ll split time between Colorado and another city like LA?
a: Yes! I have a hard time here in Colorado in the spring and early summer months. I just crave/need warmer weather and way less snow. LA is probably most likely but I definitely have hesitations. Just exploring ideas now (:

q: best sheet pans and pots (building my wedding registry)?
a: I love the WS gold touch sheet pans. And then, of course, Staub cast iron pots.

q: what did you eat while you were in Texas that you loved?
a: so random, but lobster Mac + chips and guacamole (this was smoked guacamole, which I didn’t love, but always down for chips + avocado). And also random, but we got a salmon roll too ??‍♀️

q: are there any recipes in the new cookbook that aren’t on your Instagram page?
a: Basically all the recipes in the new book are NEW. I haven’t shared them on IG or the blog.

q: I want to say how incredibly proud I am of you for releasing HBH Every Day!
a: I
just have to say I appreciate these SO much. There have definitely been some negative people and even critics that have been weighing on me the last few days. The internet is a HARD place…so hard. Those of you who take the extra effort to be soo kind are sooo appreciated.

q: how do you deal with criticism?
a: Honestly, I’m usually great about ignoring it, but it can be a lot easier said than done. It does get to me. I don’t have the perfect answer. I’m thankful for my mom, I can talk to her whenever. Also, a good quote always helps. And getting outside too! And remember that negative opinions coming from people who are sitting behind a screen DO NOT matter. They’re looking to bring you down, so don’t engage, they’ll lose every time.

5. LA Trip recap.

This past week I’ve gone from Denver to LA to Miami. Y’all know how much I love my LA work trips. As usual on these trips, I tried to pack it as full as I could. I flew in from Denver on Monday afternoon and went from the airport to my hotel to quickly drop my bags off. I stayed at The West Hollywood Edition, which I love. It’s a very “chic” hotel as they like to say. I love the minimalist clean, cool, modern, but cozy design. The lobby is my favorite, they have a fireplace right outside and I love to go and work there when I have time. But it’s the rooms that really seal the deal for me. They have the comfiest beds, super clean modern bathrooms (I love a nice hotel bathroom), and great views of the city. It’s always a great stay.

So, I dropped off my bags, then quickly headed to get my hair cut. I always go to the same girl in LA, Lisa Satorn, she’s so great and really gets my vibe. She’s over at Nine One Zero Salon in West Hollywood. We did a bit of a 90’s cut with lots and lots of layers. She also took the length up a couple of inches. Nothing crazy, but I do love it.

From there, I headed back to the hotel to quickly change before I had drinks with my friend, Hannah Skvarla. Hannah is the co-founder of The Little Market, a nonprofit founded by Hannah and Lauren Conrad to empower women. Their fair trade goods are made by artisans in need. Including refugees, people with disabilities, formerly homeless women, and survivors of trafficking and domestic violence. I’m so happy to be able to work with them…and that I was able to squeeze in drinks with Hannah!

Tuesday, was slightly more mellow. I spent the morning catching up on some blog posts, then had lunch at Jon & Vinny’s with my friend Livv. This was my first time at Jon & Vinny’s. Thankfully, Livv knew just how to order. We ordered their gem lettuce salad, chicken cutlet, Cacio e Pepe, and their signature pinwheel lasagna that they have with Don Angie. Everything was incredible. I wasn’t sure it was really going to live up to all the hype, but I have to say, it did. The Cacio e Pepe was delicious and the best I’d ever had. But if you go, don’t underestimate the chicken cutlet and that gem lettuce salad either. They were both so good.

From there I had to quickly head over to Malibu for an event with California Olive Ranch to celebrate our olive oil collaboration. I spent the afternoon and night with them. And I was able to share my favorite tuna stack from the HBH Every Day cookbook. It was such a nice event.

The following day, I had back-to-back podcasts and meetings. I’m excited to share the podcasts I recorded. The Everything Is Best podcast with Pia Baroncini and Sure is a Beautiful Day podcast with Catt Sadler. I’ll let you guys know when those episodes air!

I hopped from my podcasts to back-to-back meetings. I’m so excited about everything we have in the works. Unfortunately, they all have very long lead times, so sadly nothing new to share. But just give it a little time, more fun things to come!

The final meeting of the day was with Katie, our designer for the studio/home renovations. This was just a quick meet, but she had some color samples and plans and again, I’m excited. We’re hoping everything will be finished up by December. Some photos below of color swatches!

And the final stop that day was the one I was really looking forward to. The signature facial at the Dr. Barbara Sturm clinic. I’ve had this facial a couple of times now and I really can’t say enough good things. You leave glowing and feeling totally relaxed. It’s not an intense facial, but if you’re looking for a good glow, I highly recommend it. They’ll also recommend products for your skin, which I find very helpful.

I ended the night back at The Edition. I met my brother Malachi and his girlfriend, Cait, for dinner at The Roof (the hotel’s rooftop restaurant). We ordered drinks and the carne asada tacos. Completely delicious and their drink menu is so fun. Not to mention that they have killer views!

And then my LA trip was complete. I headed to Miami the following morning. It’s Friday morning as I type this, so Miami recap to come next week! It’s nice to be back with my family!

(legs up the wall to end the night)

  1. If you’re still in Miami Beach, please go to the Sandwicherie! It was our favorite stop when we were there a few years ago!

      1. Hi Tieghan, will you be doing any meet & great or book signings while in Florida? Would love to have my cookbooks signed & meet you.
        Hopefull Sincerely,
        Lisa

  2. I so enjoy reading these!

I like the comment about the kids wanting to read your cookbook–when I was little, I loved, loved, loved my mom’s copy of the “I Hate to Cook Book”, and read it until it was falling apart!
Jeez–I still like to reread it (I had to buy her a new copy and one for myself!).

    1. Hey Morgan,
Thanks so much for reading each Sunday! Awe that is so cute! Thanks for sharing:) xx

  3. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. Forget about the bastards who tell you how to do the thing they don’t actually do themselves. You’ve been a regular in our house since the pandemic… all my family and close friends know who “Tieghan” is. I made your recipes twice this weekend (one for the second time, one for the fourth, I think). Recently, I had a moment with a student (I teach grad students at a university) where we bonded over your website. Keep on doing your thing, and thanks. Kerry

    1. I’m still seething ? from reading that you have been harassed and/or treated negatively on line. Those types of people don’t really deserve to have their behavior swept under the rug by saying they are just hiding behind a computer somewhere. They truly need help that they will probably never seek. Tieghan, you are such a beautiful, honest, loving, giving, hard working young woman who hasn’t yet reached even a drop in the bucket of what you will accomplish in your lifetime. Anyone ever trying to be negative towards you doesn’t deserve even a passing glance from you, let alone a thought. Always know that your HBH family loves you very much and appreciates all the hard work you put in to make our lives easier. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

      1. Hey Lorena,
Thank you so much for reading and your super kind message! You are really so thoughtful and made my morning:) I love that your family has been enjoying the recipes and truly appreciate you making them. Have the best week! xTieghan

    2. Hey Kerry,
Thanks so much for kind message and making so many recipes! I love to hear that you have been enjoying them! Have the best week:) xx

  4. If it’s not too late, I was in Miami a few years ago with a friend, and we had an amazing meal at Planta in South Beach. It’s a vegan restaurant, and I would LOVE to see you take Creighton there!!

  5. 27 restaurant- amazing cocktails by a pool/outdoor area and then 27 has amazing good and low key vibe

  6. My favorite thing to do every Sunday morning is to get a hot cup of coffee and read “Nine favorite Things”. I love all your recipes and typically make them a few times a week. My daughter is vegetarian and I find your recipes easy to make veg by swapping a few ingredients. Love all your cookbooks!

    1. Hey Kendra,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading each Sunday, I am so glad you enjoy these posts as much as I do! Thanks for giving the recipes a try too! xTieghan

  7. The Miami Design District is a nice place to visit – great if extravagant shopping, excellent restaurants, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and many easily accessed parking garages (a feature not always available here in the magic city).

  8. Lots of random thoughts here! Seriously can you recreate that gem salad?!? That entire meal looks so good. Going back to a place that holds so many memories with a loved one is so bittersweet. The pop tarts are darling! You get so many requests for gluten-free! I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2006. It was completely and utterly overwhelming. This was way before the gluten-free “fad” movement which lead to a plethora of new gf products and awareness. I remember hanging on the words and recipes of any number of gluten-free bloggers at the time. I needed all the help I could get to navigate shopping, cooking, eating… It’s much different today, great products, great options and I have over time learned that it is really really easy to adapt any recipe. Finding alternative ingredients and making modifications is not that hard. Years ago I totally would have been begging you to do a GF book, today, not so much. Just keep doing what you are doing. It is all good!

    1. Nine Favorite Things is my favorite thing ?. Love spending Sunday morning enjoying taking the time to read about everything you share. Also, your recipes are some of my most favorites and I love your positivity. Another great movie is Unstoppable – a documentary about Bethany Hamilton on Netflix. I watched it a couple of months ago and it was so good. Enjoy the rest of your time in Miami !

      1. Hey Mary,
Thanks so much for reading each Sunday!! I love to hear that you have been enjoying the recipes:) Thanks for sharing about Unstoppable, will definitely have to check that out! Have the best week! xT

    2. Hey Cari,
LOL right?! It was sooo good, I’ll add to the list for sure! Let me know if you give the pop tarts a try, you could totally make them with gluten free flour. Thanks so much for your kind message and always reading along. Have a great week! xT

  9. You Go Girl-haters have nothing better to do while you are out there KILLING IT! Keep doing you, what you’ve done is amazing!

  10. I look forward every Sunday to reading NFT, it’s like my Sunday treat for the week. Also loving the photos from your travels, I would love to do more travelling. I would love to holiday in Greece and Italy, I have visited both countries before and loved both locations. I have also visited Florida a couple of times and stayed in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I have a friend who lives in Florida so I’m hoping to cross the pond and visit in the next year or so.
I’m currently watching Babylon 5 on Amazon Prime, really loving this show.
I like to follow people who inspire me like yourself 🙂 Ina Garten, the Pioneer Woman, OPI nails UK and make up artists Hung Vanngo and Hindash. I also follow my cake decorating tutors.
The plans for your studio sound like they are shaping up nicely, looking forward to seeing the finished result when it’s complete. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and have a good week.

    1. Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reading each Sunday! How amazing that you have been able to visit both Italy and Greece, both sound like a dream! Thanks for sharing accounts you enjoy following:) I hope you have a wonderful week! xTieghan
