5 Ingredient Beer Bread…and that includes the salt.

5 Ingredient Beer Bread | halfbakedharvest.com

I was never, ever, planning on posting this bread and not because it’s not amazingly delicious.

Because I promise you, this bread will rock your world. So much so that you may be making it once a week from here on out. It’s just that good and by far the easiest thing I make. Without a doubt.

The only reason I was not going to post this recipe is because it’s embarrassingly easy. One bowl, five-minute prep – tops (seriously tops), and five ingredients that I honestly think most everyone always has on hand.

Flour, baking powder, honey, salt, and beer.

That’s it you guys. And as I already said, it’s honestly one of the best loaves of bread you’ll ever have.

Today is the day I’m giving in and showing you guys one of my most requested recipes.

I’m not lying, I make a lot of food (A LOT). Actually, I make so much food that typically we have two or three freshly baked desserts lying around on any given day. You’d think I would give them away, but I can’t. By the time I’m done shooting them, and by the time my family has gotten their hands on the treats, it looks like an animal got to them.

In all fairness, I do a number on them while photographing, but my family kind of destroys them. Some people pick off their favorite parts first. Some people go straight for the middle. And some people dump the containers upside down, shake em side to side and do a little dance well they’re at it.

My mom actually asked me if I had anything for her to take to this “thing” she had last night. I was like, seriously…sure, if you want to take the bars and that cake…that looks like animals got to it. Yeah, she passed. So I quickly whipped her up a batch of this beer bread. So easy and such a crowd pleaser!

This bread is practically a staple on our dinner table. I mean, we’re having it again tonight.

It’s good enough that I make it when we have people over, bring it with me if we ever actually go anywhere (which is never, but I would) and have even made it on Thanksgiving and Christmas. People love this bread, love, love, love it.

It actually still amazes me how much people love it and how incredibly easy it is. It’s just plain bizarre.

If you are scared of homemade bread, this is the bread to make. You can’t mess it up. Ok, well I’m sure if you added way too much baking powder, dumped in tablespoons of salt, or maybe accidentally grabbed the powdered sugar instead of the flour. Yeah, in that case, I think it would be bad.

But I don’t think that’s going to happen.

I like this bread paired best with homemade chili or gumbo. But it’s also great as a side with roasted chicken, grilled steak, or even leftover for breakfast. I am telling you, this is your new favorite bread. Trust me!

I actually messed it up ? I used an IPA and it was super bitter. I was so excited to try this recipe. Disappointed, but I believe it was my poor choice in beer. I will be giving it another try! Oh I also used whole wheat flour. Could that have made a difference?

    1. Hey Justine,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try! I’ve never used whole wheat flour here, so next time I would use all purpose flour and a lighter beer. I hope this helps! xTieghan

I’ve made this bread multiple times and it always turns out perfectly! Sometimes I had herbs to change things up. It’s a great recipe that never disappoints. Also, the bread freezes nicely too!

This bread is so good ! I followed the directions and it cooked perfectly, buttery and crusty on top and fully cooked in the middle. My dad is an avid bread maker and was shocked that it was good. He was super skeptical seeing the ingredients lol.

Question – I want to make this for my in-laws who don’t like the taste of beer. I used coors lite and the beer flavor was still quite noticeable. Is there another beer that you could recommend that would give the least beer flavor? Or could I do half beer half water?

    Thanks!!

    1. Hi Hanna,
Fantastic! Love hearing that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for giving it a try. I would do half beer half sparkling water. xTieghan

So I’ve tried this recipe more than once, and I alter each time. First I want to thank Teighan for the recipe and for sharing this yumminess with us. Ok here goes:

I find that both vegan and regular butters work very well. (But vegan butters brown the bread a little faster.)

I find that salted butters and dense, dark honeys give the bread flavor, it can come out a bit bland if you’re not thinking about the types of ingredients to use.

I find that IPAs give the most robust flavor.

I add more honey on top when it’s straight out of the oven and add a bit of flaky salt on top too.

It holds very well in the freezer and fridge. I’ve let this bread stay in the fridge up to 6 days with vegan butter substitute. When I let defrost from the freezer, I just pop it in the microwave or oven and it’s even more flavorful because the ingredients have had time to settle.

Most importantly, ovens play a big role on whether or not the middle will be gooey/undercooked. I bake very low for 55 mins (325-345). Check frequently that the the outside isn’t getting too brown from the butter. If so, turn down the oven more. Once your pick is just about clean, turn oven up between 350-375 for 7-12 mins.

My bread comes out much browner, but I love that. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside.

If you want your bread lighter while also making sure the middle is cooked through, cut the recipe by a quarter and find a loaf pan slight wider in length.

Also, place the loaf pan on a sheet pan and not directly on the rack. It helps with even cooking and also keeps the butter from overflowing and making a big mess at the bottom of your stove.

    1. Hi Damara,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe out, I am thrilled to hear that it was enjoyed. Thanks for sharing all of this info! Happy Holidays! xTieghan

  6. I’m going to make this bread today to pair with the slow cooker tortellini vegetable soup! I am wondering if this actually tastes like beer? Lol such a stupid question but I am not a big lover of beer, I just want something easy and warm to dip in my soup lol SOS

  7. I’ve made this twice and while it smells divine, both times it didn’t cook in the center. I followed the directions, used a light coloured metal pan with Corona as the beer. Any ideas on what I can do to make it work for me?

    1. Hey there,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, next time I would cover with foil and bake until the center is fully cooked. I hope this helps! xTieghan

  8. Hi! Do you think it would be better to substitute brown sugar or agave for the honey? My stomach doesn’t like honey?

    Thank you!
    Bekah

    1. Hey Bekah,
Agave would work well for you here! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you give it a try! xTieghan

  9. Hi Tieghan,

The only ingredient I changed was the flour. I used 3 cups of GF flour. I just put the mixture in the oven but my batter wasn’t thick like yours. Do you think that’s bc I used GF flour??

    1. Hey Casey,
Sorry to hear this, typically GF flour works well here. Let me know how the bread turns out! xTieghan

So easy and so yummy!! I am a stout drinker, so I made the recipe with what I had on hand and boy did it add good flavor! The honey and stout balanced each other out perfectly. Will certainly be making this again for other soup and stew nights this winter.

    1. Hey Gretchen,
Fantastic! I am so glad to hear that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a lot for giving it a try! Have the best week:) xTieghan

  11. Hi! Would this be good to make ahead of time and then warm up? Also, could I make smaller loaves in aluminum pans? Thinking of making this with Thanksgiving along with rolls.
    Thank you!

    1. Hey April,
This recipe honestly comes together so easily there really is no reason to make it ahead. Yes, you can totally make it into smaller loaves. I hope you love the recipe! xTieghan
