Slices of creamy Brie cheese wrapped up in salty prosciutto and flaky store-bought puff pastry. Each pastry roll is baked until deeply golden on the outside and melty inside. We’re down to the very final days leading up to Christmas Eve and Christmas festivities. So much excitement is in the air! With the hustle and bustle that’s taking place right now, I know the recipes we need most are quick dishes, sides, salads, simple cookie recipes, and appetizers to serve our hungry holiday guests!

Whenever I’m entertaining at Christmas, no party is complete without a baked Brie appetizer. It’s a holiday must-have, must-make.

Everyone loves melty Brie!

I shared a recipe for prosciutto-wrapped brie in pastry a couple of years ago. It’s since become one of my personal favorites, I make it all the time. My family loves anything wrapped up in prosciutto.

While I was in New York last week thinking up our very last holiday recipes, I wrote this idea down, and it stayed in my thoughts for days. I was so excited to return this past weekend to make these rolls! I knew they would turn out good, but they were even better than I pictured!

Details

Step 1: slice the brie and wrap in prosciutto

Pick up your favorite wheel of Brie from the grocery, then slice it up into eight slices. Ideally, try to use a 12-ounce wheel of Brie. And there’s no need to peel away any of the rind. Leaving the rind on will ensure the yummy Brie bakes up nicely inside each pastry without too much mess.

Now, take thin slices of deli prosciutto and wrap a single slice around a slice of Brie. The idea is to mostly cover the slice of Brie.

Step 2: the pastry

Take your sheets of thawed-out puff pastry and cut each sheet into 4 squares to make a total of 8 squares.

Spread each square with fig preserves or use honey, whatever you prefer. Add the prosciutto-wrapped Brie and some freshly cracked black pepper.

Step 3: baking

Now, you can brush the pastries with a beaten egg and add a sprinkle of coarse sugar. This step isn’t needed, but it makes the pastry really sparkle. It’s fun for the holidays and adds such deliciousness too.

Then just throw the brie rolls in the oven, and you’re done.

When the pastries come out of the oven, serve them immediately. I like to drizzle them with honey, top with thyme, and then put some pomegranate arils on the side for festive color. Plus, I think these additions are delish.

It’s hard to describe just how good these rolls are. The prosciutto really adds a savory saltiness that pairs so well with the rich Brie. And the honey on top just sweetens the deal.

Made these last night for a NYE gathering at my house. They are delicious!! Glad to have another “go-to” appetizer.

  2. Hi there,
Just tried these out and they were delish! I am personally just not the biggest fan of Brie cheese. What other cheeses do you think would make good subs?

  3. No rating because I didn’t follow the recipe exactly. I love the concept, but my substitutes of roasted turkey (batch 1) and salami (batch 2) were okay – but not great – with brie and fig. I’ll try again with Pancetta and I’ll also go light on the fig because it does end up being a big flavor in this appetizer. I do love how easy it was to put together. I also prefer a smaller format, so I’ll go with 8 servings per sheet instead of 4, with smaller chunks of cheese and meat. Packets tend to open with the smaller size so pinch the edges if you want them to stay closed. I skipped the sugar/honey/pomegranate, and that was a good choice for me because the fig is pretty sweet.

These were a big hit, and something I feel like has endless potential. Different jam, meat, and cheese combos would be so fun. They were so so easy to put together too. This appetizer formula is the gift that’ll keep on giving. Thank you for the great idea!

  5. Delicious! I made them per the recipe, but smaller.
I used smaller slices of Brie and I cut the puff pastry sheet into 9 pieces instead of 4. They were terrific! I assembled them ahead of time, took them to a family dinner and cooked them there. They were a big hit!

I made these and they looked good. They tasted good, just good not great. There were leftovers and when I heated them up again they were not good. The pastry was soggy and all the taste was lost. Also they are very large by making 8 of them as the recipe calls for so I cut them in half for serving as an appetizer, but they were still large. Kind of too much for an appetizer. If anything, maybe reclassify and call them a sandwich for breakfast or lunch? Overall, they were just fair and I won’t make them again.

  7. I already know these will be amazing on Christmas morning! Thanks so much for all of your can’t-ever-go-wrong AMAZING recipes <3

I will give this a try; not exact but similar; I will use that Pillsbury dough and stuff them with some cheese and sausages and bake until brown; how’s that? I don’t always follow recipes fully. Sorry and happy holiday!
