Nine Favorite Things

Hello from home, back to normal life after a few days spent in New York. It was such a busy, good trip. As always, New York never disappoints. I love that I have the opportunity to spend so much time in the city. This life I live isn’t the life I ever imagined I would have for myself. Looking back at who I was as a kid, who I was when I wrote that very first post for HBH back in 2012, who I was 5 years ago, and who I am today, I am wildly different. When I really sit and think about it, it’s shocking. I was a very shy, very anxious kid. I’m not sure anyone ever believed I would leave my mom’s side, but here I am. Traveling, working, and sharing what I love with so many people every single day.

I don’t know how I did it – slow and steady baby steps I guess. Most days, I take two steps forward and one step back. But I love growing and learning and becoming the person I know I can be. I never thought in a million years this would be my life. I have SO MUCH more I want to do. It’s exciting. But I have to keep in mind that the slow, steady build is OK. I can’t have everything and achieve everything all at once. Even if I could, well then what?

I’m the most impatient person there is. But when I look back and remember the girl I used to be, I remember that growth can’t happen overnight! My dad said this to me today, and it really got me thinking and reflecting.

The photo above was taken at the launch party for Prada Beauty. My 12-year-old self would have been jumping up and down with excitement if I’d known I’d be the girl getting invited to a Prada event. Feeling so grateful for where I am. PINCH ME.

My New York trip was filled mainly with meetings and events. I ate at a new restaurant that I loved, Cervo’s. The highlight here was definitely the clams in vinho verde, fried skate and butter beans, and you can’t forget the french fries. I never eat clams, but this dish was so good. Sharing a photo recap of New York below!

What I do find a struggle, is balancing more lifestyle content with what we all love, the recipes! I love to share it ALL with you guys. Most of our community seems to enjoy it, but I know there are some that really just come for the recipe. I hope that I can get the balance to be just right. And that anyone looking for just recipes skips over these posts! I want to keep sharing more of what I love, recipes, home decor, fashion, styling, and travel. I have so much fun sharing it all!

I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts on business. I LOVE podcasts, you guys. I find I learn and retain so much more information through a podcast than by reading a book. I’m going to try listening to books on tape soon, but I have so many great podcasts that I love.

This week, I’m home and back to normal day-to-day life. No travel until the end of the month. Then it’s back to LA for an event I can’t wait to share more about!

Tomorrow is my dad’s birthday! Maybe I’ll make him his favorite chocolate cake!

I think that’s all I have for today! Things are pretty mellow here at home. Lots of pretty white snow and beautiful bluebird skies on Saturday. I’m again surrounding myself with flowers, as is usual for me this time of year. And candles are still being lit every night. I’m excited for springtime recipes! March is almost here!

What are you looking forward to this week?

Nine Favorite Things

1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try.

wanting…this Patchwork Cashmere Heart Plushie. Totally not needed, but this pillow is so stinking cute. Plus, I bet it’s comfy too. Majorly on sale right now. I may just have to get it.

everything in my cart (low)…this brushed blazer is part of the Nordstrom winter sale. I love it styled with the matching skirt and sneakers.

Loving everything from Varley, especially the orly ribbed-knit jacket.

listening to…On the Podcast: Victoria Beckham Is Not Ready to Become a Grandmother—Yet. Very into learning about the Beckhams right now. They seem to be everywhere!

dreaming of going to… Aman’s Amanpuri property in Thailand. I’ve always dreamed about staying at the Aman Hotel! Maria Sharapova will be hosting an event here that’s inspiring me to take a trip to Thailand. Here’s more about the retreat and Maria Sharapova on the Importance of Discipline, the Best Athlete’s Sunblock and Her 80/20 Rule

loving…The new grey nail color trend. This nail look is so cute.

shopping…the Nordstrom Home sale, specifically all their candles. So many good ones. I would stock up before tomorrow night.

reading…Fashion to Empower: 12 Women’s Designers on the Most Meaningful Pieces They Own. I enjoyed scrolling through this. I have a few pieces that I will never give up. My Nonnie’s Fendi cosmetic bag (this is similar) and Gucci slides are two pieces that feel so special to me. They’re all I have of hers. I could never part with them.

everything in my cart (beauty)…all things Chanel Beauty under $100. The LA crème hand cream is a long-time favorite. But I want to try their perfumed hand creams too. The packaging is so cute! Of course, you can’t go wrong with the Chanel rouge lip color. And their eyeshadow has so many pretty color pallets. I’ve heard great things about the Chanel mascara, and I’m curious to try the Chanel hair mist, too. And you definitely have to try their nail colors. These are some of the best of the best.

I use the Saie slip tint most when I’m at home, it’s perfect. And for the lips/cheeks, the RMS lip tint is a go-to.

Lastly, I must test the new Rhode Pineapple Refresh The Daily Cleanser. I’m bet this is so good, I love the sound of a pineapple cleanser. I also need to order the Ilia The Base Face Milk. And this JLO BEAUTY body cream too.

watching…The Best Commercials of Super Bowl 2024. Bennifer for Dunkin was my favorite. How about you?

travel…St. Moritz. Such a beautiful winter location. Read The Vogue Guide to St. Moritz in Winter for trip planning details. The hotels look so luxurious.

everything in my cart (high)…love these Prada satin mules. I would get them in the black or brown, but the green and orange are very fun! Asher would love this Miu Miu embellished gabardine cropped tank top, such a super cute look.

The Khaite Simona Shoulder Bag is so pretty.

This Stand Studio lambskin leather jacket is the prettiest. Style it with this Toteme wrap skit.

watching…Inside Usher’s Final Fitting for the Super Bowl 2024 Halftime Show. This is fun! I love a behind-the-scenes video.

ordering… the HydroJug. McKenzie on our team was telling me all the reasons she loves this water bottle. She can mix up her greens powder or pre-workout protein in it by just putting the lid down and then shaking it up! I’ll have to try it for myself.

  1. Where do you like to stay in NYC? I have a mother/daughter trip coming up in May and want to make it extra special!

  2. Looking forward to… slightly warmer weather and watching my friend run her first marathon! LOVE that mini skirt you shared!

Question – I know you’ve said you hike pretty much every morning at home. Would you consider sharing a round-up of your favorite/most using hiking gear for different seasons?

Also, you should definitely take some time off, girl! It’s hard to step away but we will be right here. Have you considered having someone on your team post some old recipes (like from a few years ago) while you’re away instead of you having to post new content? You don’t want to get burned out!

    1. Hey Charlotte-Grace,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing all of your kind words:) Yes, I could definitely share some of my favorite hiking gear for the different season! Will add this to my list:) Hope you are having a great week! xT

  3. I would personally love more of your everything posts; home, decor, diy, fashion, beauty, etc…I like the recipes but I’m limited with so many allergies and food sometimes is a debilitating thought for me with my other gut ailments. These posts are fun and I enjoy your blog! Thanks for sharing…looking forward to more cozy, personal lifestyle from you 😘☕️

  4. Can you say a little bit more about why you want to travel to Myanmar? I saw you post a Pinterest photo on your q&a when asked about travel. Do you actually want to visit? Or did you just like the photo?
Might want to be a bit more careful before pulling random photos from the internet.

There are plenty of places to take a hot air balloon ride where the country isn’t plagued with civil war and genocide. Like New Mexico which is essentially in your backyard!

  5. I love authenticity of your blog and how you have shared your personal journey. Your comment about people thinking you would never leave your Mom’s side was relatable because my 20 year old daughter has pretty bad separation anxiety to me. Would love to know how you got the courage to travel on your own.

  6. I love the nine things posts every week. It’s so fun to see what you curate for us, it gives us a peek into what you think about outside of food and recipes. You’re a whole person and it’s fun to get to see that. Thank you for sharing your growth journey, your excitement and gratitude comes through, younger folks are lucky to have you to look up to.
Random question: as a fellow candle lover with a growing (read: overflowing) collection, where do you store candles you’re not actively using? I have a cabinet that is getting a bit full and every time I open it I’m like …woah… and have been resisting the temptation to buy more until I use some up. Help (haha)!

    1. Hi Nicole,
Thanks so much for reading each week! I am so glad you enjoy these posts as much as I do and appreciate your feedback:) For the candles…I really try to just burn them all the way until they are gone. Any extras I just have on a shelf in the studio. Have a great week! xT

  7. Please don’t change your format. It’s perfect the way it is. I love reading about all the wonderful opportunities you have and want to share with your Readers. It takes alot of effort and preparation to prepare your weekly ‘Nine Favourite Things’ and it was very much appreciated. Thank you !

    1. Hi Marlie,
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your feedback! I appreciate your kind thoughts regarding the NFT posts:) Have a great week! xx

  8. When you travel it’s always for work. You always mention places you want to visit in NFT. Why don’t you travel for pleasure? You’re fortunate to be your own boss and have control over your schedule. Take advantage of it!

    1. Hi Sam,
I truly consider a lot of my traveling for work as pleasure too. I really love what I am doing right now and feel so blessed to be fortunate enough to do the traveling that I am doing. Being the boss also means working extra hard to keep what I have built alive:) Thanks so much for reading!! xT

      1. Do you think HBH wouldn’t survive if you took a couple of weeks off? It would. It’s ok to take a break. Give yourself the chance to travel without meetings. Travel for personal enrichment, travel to relax, travel to explore and learn. If you don’t want to travel for pleasure, that’s ok but don’t be afraid to say so.

  9. Tieghan,

I LOVED this post! So cool that you are being so honest about your personal growth and that is inspiring! I find something each week that I can use – food, fashion or podcast recommendations. Even your quotes – I teach high school students and I am always looking for an inspiration for our weekly updates! So keep doing what you are doing! And I am hooked on the Skinny Confidential and would have never found that without you!

    1. Hi Susan,
Happy Sunday! Thanks for reading and your thoughtful message:) I love that you are able to share some of the quotes with your students. Thanks for being here! xT

  10. Tieghan, I absolutely loved this 9 favorite article. I am certainly going to try some of the Thai recipes. Thank you for sharing your amazing travel week.

    1. Hi September,
Thanks so much for reading today!! Let me know which recipes you end up trying:) Have a great week! xT

  11. Just remember, if your fashion journey had worked out when you first went to Los Angeles we might never have known who you are and been able to enjoy your recipes. I skip over what I don’t relate to, enjoy most recipes, get ideas from some, and enjoy the simple everyday photos of your family. Enjoy the life you’ve made so far and see where it takes you.

    1. Hi Kim,
Thanks for reading today and sharing your insight! Yes, this is so very true…everything happens for a reason:) Have a great Sunday! xT

  12. Hi Tieghan,
I too enjoy reading about your recipes and travels. It’s fun to see someone’s success
and enjoyment of life. Keep going!

  13. I look forward to this every Sunday. Thank you! I think you share a beautiful balance of all the things. Your emails and IG posts always make my heart smile. 🤗
And, yes to the Bennifer Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, your travels, your goals and aspirations with work, your Helen Keller quote and a desire to go to St. Moritz. (it’s 🤩) Thank YOU!

    1. Hi Sue,
Happy Sunday!! Thanks a lot for reading each week and your thoughtful message:) Glad you enjoyed today’s post! xT

  14. Love your blog and travels! My husband and I are on a strict diet- so as much as I love your recipes I either have to adjust them or wait until another time when I can make them. We are eating a lot of quinoa and lentils so I’m always on the lookout for compliant recipes.
    Relaxing up in northern Maine!

    1. Hi Ann,
Thanks so much for your kind message:) I hope you are able to adjust some of the recipes to your liking! Enjoy your Sunday! xT

  15. I say you should post what you want and not worry about what anyone else says. You will never, ever be able to please everyone. Personally, I just skip over the content that doesn’t interest me, and firmly believe that’s what others should do, too. I can’t figure out why so many people feel like it’s okay to be rude to you. It’s not okay! Hang in there, Tieghan!

    1. Hi Chris,
Thanks for reading today and sharing your thoughts:) I appreciate that you are able to just skip through anything you don’t enjoy and read what you find interesting. Hope you have a great Sunday! Xx
