I know that we cannot technically go on a hike together.
BUT I can at least show you how almost all of my days start. I talk about hiking all the time here because it is something I really love and it’s the best way I can think of to get my morning started. Some people run or go to the gym, but I really hate the gym. So I hike.
For the last seven years of my life I have been lucky enough to live within walking distance to multiple trails.
I may not have great Farmers Markets and grocery stores with huge varieties of foods, but at least I am surrounded by some of the best hikes and views Colorado has to offer.
I figured it was about time I take you with me on my daily hike. The trail head is literally fifty feet from my front door and while it is a completely straight up hike, the views are incredible and it makes all the huffing and puffing the entire way up totally worth it.
I am a little sad to say that my camera just did not even come close to capturing the “wow” factors of the mountains, but I think you’ll get the idea.
So let’s go!
Grab your hiking boots…. because first we have to go let the chickens out, get them some fresh water, some food and attempt to clean up all their poop. It’s so fun!
First things first, I have to unplug their heat lamp. Yes, they do get a heat lamp because it gets so dang cold here at night. Spoiled chickens? Yup.
The rest is pretty easy, just get them some fresh water and food. Then they are pretty much good for the day. They run, they play and they make some noise.
Oh and I have named them – Elsa, Anna and Olaf. I thought Asher would enjoy those names. Of course, I have a hard time telling who is who, but they can’t be nameless.
So the chicken are good to go, lets start hiking.
This is may not look steep because at this point it’s not, but I promise you guys this is a killer trail and by killer I mean your legs will be feeling it tomorrow.
The first creek.
Throughout the trail all you can hear is water running. Not much else. Just water, birds and the sound of the wind. It’s amazing.
Buffalo Mountain
I think these might be wild roses.
Morning light.
Lupines
I am not sure what these mountain flowers are.
Red Peak
Views from the top. Lake Dillon below, the towns of Silverthorne and Frisco off to the right and the snow-capped mountains of Breckenridge in the distance.
The town of Silverthorne.
Break time!
Second Creek.
Horses! Early morning trail riders.
When you see the horses there is nothing you can do but step aside and let them pass. It’s a skinny trial and those guys are BIG.
Headed back down.
Almost home – we are done with toady’s hike – hope you enjoyed it.
Have a great Sunday… and get outside and have some fun!

First of all I love the names of the chickens…and thanks for taking us along on your hike your pictures of the mountains are gorgeous. What a great way to clear you head and organize your thoughts for the day..what happens during the winter months when there’s tons of snow?
Well, it is covered in snow, but the trail gets pretty pack down so I still hike. Thanks!
