Crockpot Creamy Garlic Chicken and Gnocchi. A cozier weeknight, slow cooker meal made with white wine, creamy Dijon mustard, fresh herbs, parmesan cheese, and store-bought cauliflower or potato gnocchi. Plus, I added in shredded brussels sprouts for veggies and color. This slow-cooked chicken dinner is a hearty and delicious meal to come home to at the end of a busy day. But what’s even better is just how easy it is to prepare!

We’re just one week out from the start of fall!! Part of me is sad that time is flying by, but most of me just feels excited. Excited for the season ahead. Excited to lean into the cozier things in life. And excited about our upcoming launch and fall travel.

So many things to really be looking forward to! And course, fall recipes are at the top of my list! I have so many fun new ideas!

But with life being so busy for us all, I think we can agree that simplifying our cooking and baking is the way to go.

This means crockpot recipes! And today I have a good one.

Here are the details

Just as you would think, this really is simple. Begin by placing the chicken in the crockpot and rubbing it with olive oil and fresh herbs. I used a heartier mix of herbs for this to really help make the dish warming. Sage is my favorite herb to use in September.

Now the garlic, the key to this recipe. You’ll want to use a whole head but peel the cloves and leave them whole. The cloves will soften and caramelize as the chicken cooks adding so much flavor to the sauce.

I also love to use a Parmesan rind. Try it, you’ll love it! Just toss it in with the garlic. It adds a really nice flavor throughout the creamy sauce. It also pairs so wonderfully with the white wine, herbs, and mustard. Certainly a very French vibe.

At this point, just cover the crockpot and cook. You can speed things up by cooking on high, or go low and slow. Alternatively, you can use the instant pot, but I do prefer the crockpot method, I gave stovetop directions too.

When the chicken has cooked, pull it out and set it on a small sheet pan.

For the gnocchi, it’s pretty easy, sometimes I use cauliflower, sometimes potato. Just depends on my mood!

Mix it in with some water and cook in the crockpot for a few minutes on high.

Finish the chicken by adding some butter on top. Then add milk and Parmesan to the sauce too.

And well that’s it. This certainly could not be easier, or more delicious!

Once you plate this, I like to add fresh basil on top and some crusty bread on the side. The bread is perfect for scooping up all that extra sauce.

WOW. This was incredible. Even my super picky toddler gobbled it up and asked for seconds and thirds!! I added bacon and it was delicious!

    1. Hey Kelly,
Happy Monday!!☃️ I truly appreciate you making this recipe and sharing your review, so glad it was enjoyed! xT

  2. Tried this recipe with the crockpot method — made a few adjustments after I saw previous reviews & it came out great. I didn’t add any water after removing the chicken. Used fresh, not frozen gnocchi. After the 15 minutes, I removed the crockpot lid and let it cook on high another 15 minutes then switched to warm and let sit for a bit. Took a bit longer…but gnocchi was fully cooked & sauce was the perfect creaminess by the time we ate.

    1. Hey Andrea,

I’m not sure why all the bad reviews saying its soupy. The only problem I had was that the gnocchi wasn’t cooking in the Slow cooker, so I had to transfer it to the stove. Once I did that, it cooked and was really delicious, and creamy! Next time I make it, I’ll follow the stove top directions instead.

    1. Hey Julia,

My kids didn’t like it; they said it tasted sour to them. I went back to see if we did something wrong. I noticed that in your video on Instagram you mentioned adding wine AND broth, but broth is not mentioned in the recipe. Is that where this goes wrong?

        1. Hi Meg,
Sorry to hear this recipe was not enjoyed. You can use broth or wine for this recipe. Please let me know if you have any other questions, sorry for the trouble! xx

I am Half Baked Harvest biggest fan. For the last few weeks, I’ve been making her dinners 3-4 times a week. But eventually there had to be a miss. I’m sad it was this one because it had so much potential. I started to read the reviews after starting it in the crock pot. Everyone had the same problems; way too runny. I figured she tweeked the recipe because there were so many complaints like this. Even so, I added less water with the gnocchi and still couldn’t salvage it. Had a few bites and went out to eat 🙁 huge bummer. Would pass on this one.

    1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks so much for your kind message and making so many recipes!! I’m so sorry to hear this one did not turn out for you, I’m not sure what is causing this for some people! Sorry for the trouble! xx

The lemon and wine / vinegar were way too over powering in this recipe in my opinion. Also agree with the rest of the comments that the sauce is too thin, I ended up moving the sauce to a sauce pan, adding a tablespoon of flour and a bit more cheese and then reducing the sauce. It thickened great this way but I still didn’t enjoy the taste. I typically love all recipes here but they can’t all be good 🙂

    1. Hi Heather,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback! So sorry to hear it was not enjoyed! There’s no vinegar in this recipe….what did you use? Please let me know how I can help! xx

Alright. Feedback – this absolutely needed to be reduced. I threw it in a shallow pan and added some chicken broth as well. Let the baby simmer and it honestly ended up perfectly. As usual i double the spices. Maybe not a crockpot meal but I certainly didn’t think unflavorful. Oh i subbed Dijon for stone ground mustard too and it made a yummy crispy coating on the chx.

    1. Hey Shelby,
Happy Friday!!❄️ Thanks so much for making this recipe and sharing your review, so glad to hear it was a winner! Thanks for sharing what worked well for you! xx

Unfortunately my meal turned out more like a soup, not creamy :/ I added so much corn starch it started to feel chalky and was still a very thin consistency. I enjoyed the flavor, just wish I had the “creamy” aspect of it like many others ran into as well

    1. Hi Paige,
So sorry to hear this recipe was not enjoyed. Why did you add cornstarch? You may have just needed to let it simmer a bit. Let me know how I can help! xT

    1. Hey there,
Totally, broccoli will be great for you to use! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you love this recipe! xx

Made with crockpot method – the flavors of white wine and garlic are too overpowering. I gave three stars because I pressed my garlic instead of leaving the cloves whole so possibly that was my fault, but the wine flavor was just too much…and I love wine. I think the issue is that it isn’t cut with anything and never gets reduced. I wanted to be able to taste the rub on the chicken but it was completely gone. I cooked the chicken for an hour and half on high and it came out very juicy. Maybe switching to half white wine, half chicken broth would be better but you would still lose the rub on the chicken. Maybe this just isn’t good as a crockpot recipe. Too bad!

    1. Hey Lindsay,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback! So sorry to hear that it was not enjoyed! Please let me know if there is any way that I can help! xx

I wish I had read the reviews before making this tonight. I’ve yet to find a recipe on HHH We didn’t like, until tonight. Unfortunately, it will all go to the trash tonight. I definitely do not recommend this recipe.

    1. Hi Sheli,
So sorry to hear that this recipe was not enjoyed! Is there anything specific that went wrong or anything that I can help with? Please let me know! xT

My family really enjoyed this recipe! I substituted spinach for the Brussels sprouts because it’s what I had on hand. I do have a question though… What changes, if any, should one make of using freshly made gnocchi? I would like to make my whole wheat gnocchi next time. Thank you!

    1. Hey Leona,
Awesome!! 🍂 I love to hear that this recipe turned out well for you, thanks a bunch for trying it out! I would follow the same instructions for fresh gnocchi. xx

I’m sorry – I absolutely love pretty much every HBH recipe I have ever made until this one. I must agree with others – the sauce was runny and the flavors were just bland. Unfortunately the leftovers went straight into the garbage.

    1. I read this review 3/4 of the way through cooking. I did add cornstarch to the cream to thicken the sauce, which did help. But overall, the flavor was just not there.

We will continue to use HHH for all our go-to recipes. We love her.

I love HBH recipes. But this one misses the mark for me. I may have done something wrong but the gnocchi and Brussels sprouts took much longer to cook than 15 min. And the sauce was very watery and tasted pretty bad. I’d probably sub chicken broth for the wine; but I likely won’t try this recipe again.

No worries though— I’ll be back for more of Tieghan’s recipes! 🙂

    1. Hi Jindy,
Thanks so much for trying this recipe and sharing your feedback!! So sorry to hear it was not enjoyed!! xT
