5 Ingredient Beer Bread…and that includes the salt.

5 Ingredient Beer Bread | halfbakedharvest.com

I was never, ever, planning on posting this bread and not because it’s not amazingly delicious.

Because I promise you, this bread will rock your world. So much so that you may be making it once a week from here on out. It’s just that good and by far the easiest thing I make. Without a doubt.

The only reason I was not going to post this recipe is because it’s embarrassingly easy. One bowl, five-minute prep – tops (seriously tops), and five ingredients that I honestly think most everyone always has on hand.

Flour, baking powder, honey, salt, and beer.

That’s it you guys. And as I already said, it’s honestly one of the best loaves of bread you’ll ever have.

Today is the day I’m giving in and showing you guys one of my most requested recipes.

I’m not lying, I make a lot of food (A LOT). Actually, I make so much food that typically we have two or three freshly baked desserts lying around on any given day. You’d think I would give them away, but I can’t. By the time I’m done shooting them, and by the time my family has gotten their hands on the treats, it looks like an animal got to them.

In all fairness, I do a number on them while photographing, but my family kind of destroys them. Some people pick off their favorite parts first. Some people go straight for the middle. And some people dump the containers upside down, shake em side to side and do a little dance well they’re at it.

My mom actually asked me if I had anything for her to take to this “thing” she had last night. I was like, seriously…sure, if you want to take the bars and that cake…that looks like animals got to it. Yeah, she passed. So I quickly whipped her up a batch of this beer bread. So easy and such a crowd pleaser!

This bread is practically a staple on our dinner table. I mean, we’re having it again tonight.

It’s good enough that I make it when we have people over, bring it with me if we ever actually go anywhere (which is never, but I would) and have even made it on Thanksgiving and Christmas. People love this bread, love, love, love it.

It actually still amazes me how much people love it and how incredibly easy it is. It’s just plain bizarre.

If you are scared of homemade bread, this is the bread to make. You can’t mess it up. Ok, well I’m sure if you added way too much baking powder, dumped in tablespoons of salt, or maybe accidentally grabbed the powdered sugar instead of the flour. Yeah, in that case, I think it would be bad.

But I don’t think that’s going to happen.

I like this bread paired best with homemade chili or gumbo. But it’s also great as a side with roasted chicken, grilled steak, or even leftover for breakfast. I am telling you, this is your new favorite bread. Trust me!

    1. Hey Grace,
I would start checking for doneness at 25 minutes. I hope this recipe turns out well for you, please let me know if you have any other questions! xx

Tieghan Thank you!!!! I’ve always been a little nervous about trying to bake bread and this is not only extremely delicious and beautiful, but easy enough for a 6 year old to make. It’s given me confidence to try other bread recipes, even though I prefer cooking to baking. There’s nothing like a loaf of fresh baked bread to serve those you care for and love.

    1. Hey Amy,

My wife does not love bread, but she DEVOURED this one. It was so tasty. I used room temp ginger beer and followed the recipe as written and it was a hot. I’ll for sure be making this again! Paired it with HBH tortellini soup.

    1. Hey Jessica,

  3. Hello,
I made this bread with the Irish French soup! Delicious! Can u please clarify the baking time? The cookbook states 35-40 minutes in the oven and here it states 45-55 minutes.
I’m a huge fan! I have been cooking your recipes for many many years and always get rave reviews from family & friends!

Since I live near Palisade CO, I decided to use Palisade Peach Beer for my second attempt at this recipe. It was wonderful!! I used an amber ale the first time and it was a bit to “beery” for me. The peach beer was a good decision. Loved it! Such an easy recipe and bread turns out great!!

    1. Hey Jodie,

I first made this with an IPA which we thought was too strong. Second time I used Sam Summer and it was outstanding. I also recommend that you don’t add the beer until you are ready to put it right in the oven. I let it sit on the counter for a few minutes one of the times I made it and it was kind of flat. Great bread, and easy for sure!

    1. Hey Nancy,
Happy Monday!! 🍁 Love to hear that this recipe turned out well for you, thanks a bunch for making it! xT

  6. Simple and delicious…..just perfect to bake while fixing soup in the pressure cooker. I bake it in a an 8×10 baking pan. Have some ready to go now with a chicken and sun dried tomato soup. Ideal for the cool rainy day we are having!

    1. Hey Amy,
Fantastic!! Thanks so much for sharing your feedback and giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it turned out well for you! Have a great weekend:)

I made this from your cookbook and it turned out bitter. Not sure if that’s the flavor it’s supposed to have. I don’t mind bitter but it’s just slightly unpleasant. I put some jam on which helped. I used Heineken and Wildflower Honey. Perhaps I need to use a milder beer or different honey? The book says to bake 35-40 minutes. I see here it’s 45-55. It was a little soggy/floury in the center but once cooled it had firmed up. Any thoughts on how to diffuse the bitterness?

    1. Hi Irena,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, so sorry about the bitter taste. I’m wondering if it was the beer, I love to use a pumpkin beer or maybe try something a little more mild:) I hope this helps! You should only need 35-40 minutes, but all ovens differ! xxT

I’ve been wanting to try this bread for 2 months now, and I finally got around to it! And boy, did it hit the spot. I loved the crunchy, buttery exterior and dense, moist interior. So good warm and with honey butter! I’m so glad I did eat it warm. I served it with your pizza pasta and my family loved every single bite! Abigail

    1. Hey Abigail,
Happy Monday! 👻 I am thrilled to hear that this recipe was a winner, thanks so much for making it! Happy Halloween! 🎃

  9. If I’m out of all purpose flour, can I sub for part or all whole wheat flour? Made this last week and the family is screaming for more!

    1. Amateur baker here (was a pastry chef decades ago) – the thing is that WW flour likes to absorb a lot more liquid, so it might come out drier. I would only sub part to test first. I thought about doing one cup ww and using a few more ounces of beer, but decided to make as is the first go. Would love to know your results!

    2. Hi Laura,
Sure, that will work well for you! I hope this recipe turns out tasty, let me know if you give it a try! xT

I think combining the beer and honey before adding (and room temp beer) might make it more evenly distributed (the honey). The spots where the honey didn’t incorporate enough are a bit stodgy. That’s my only caveat. Made with white chicken chili. Both a hit!! This is excellent quick bread anyone can make. My butter ran over, so I don’t think I got that benefit (I might use a taller sided pan next time, my Pyrex one has short sided) and I covered with foil at about 45m to keep from browning too much (mine is really golden). Took just an hour for mine to bake through. Super tasty.

    1. Hey there,
Thanks for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback! So glad it was enjoyed:) Try using a metal pan next time rather than a Pyrex! I hope this helps! xT

This is the best and easiest recipe ever. I like to make it the traditional way and sometimes I switch it up and mix pumpkin butter or apple butter into my honey. It’s also delicious with chocolate beer! Thanks for the amazing recipe!!

Made this three times already and each time it is a HIT. Easy to make, I always have the ingredients in the house – we’ve decided to make it every time we have soup. So good.

  13. I would love to give this a try but need to make it gluten free. Do you think it would work with gluten free flour? I gave a good GF beer.

    1. Hey Renae,
You bet, an equal amount of gluten free flour will work well for you! I hope this recipe turns out tasty, let me know if you give it a try! xx
