Bringing back cocktail Saturday the healthy…ish way with this Winter Citrus Tequila Smash. A delicious mix of pretty blood oranges, sweet pomegranate juice, spicy ginger, fresh mint, a touch of warming honey, a splash of tequila, and of course, some sparkles too. It’s so simple, refreshing, wintry, and packed full of ingredients to help ward off the worst of winter’s colds.

I know, I know. A cocktail in the middle of Healthy January? It doesn’t seem fitting, but I promise, this tequila smash is going to crush any winter bugs lurking in the air this season.

Honestly, I wasn’t planning on sharing any cocktails all month long. After 3 full months of sharing a new cocktail recipe every single Saturday, I thought I was done with the cocktails for a while. BUT, then something changed. I was feeling really inspired to create a few winter cocktails that are on the healthier side. When inspiration hits, I tend to run with it.

Yes, I am crazy, but hey, at least you’re getting a dang good cocktail out of my craziness.

Winter Citrus Tequila Smash being muddled together

In true cocktail Saturday form, I’m keeping this post short and sweet. So here’s how this tequila smash works.

Simply, muddle together blood oranges with lime juice, pomegranate juice, fresh ginger, mint, and a touch of honey…if you need the sweetness. Muddle until you’ve pressed out all the orange juice, and really infused the ginger into the drink. Now, add some tequila and shake, shake, shake.

Strain into your favorite cocktail glass, and add a blood orange slice, to make the drink extra pretty. And done. It’s quick, it’s easy, and you simply will not be able to get enough of this healthier winter cocktail.

As you can tell from the ingredients (and even just the vibrant color), this cocktail packs in the vitamin C and antioxidants. It will keep your immune system strong. Oh, and did I mention, it’s also the type of drink you’ll be asked to make over and over again? Well at least I am.

Also, if you are partaking in “Dry January”, aka no alcohol all month long. No worries, you can easily just omit the tequila and enjoy an extra citrusy winter mocktail. Which is honestly what I prefer anyway. It works well. So do what works best for you here.

Enjoy, happy Saturday, and see you tomorrow for a new favorite’s post!

This was AMAZING!!!! Definitely a keeper. We topped ours with a little Prosecco instead of sparkling water. Delicious!

Really wanting to do this as a signature drink for my wedding, but not a huge fan of tequila – thoughts on doing this with vodka instead?

    1. Hi Alyx,
I think vodka would also be a great option! Maybe give it a try with just one drink and see if it’s something that turns out well! Let me know! xx

I’ve made these a few times, and they are sooo delicious. Refreshing, tasty and not too sweet (we used the lower suggestion of honey). Thanks for the recipe!

So refreshing! Added a little red food coloring to make it a brighter color red for a superbowl cocktail and used agave instead of honey. YUM!
