These easy Homemade Pull Apart Roasted Garlic Pizza Dip Sliders are such a fun and easy appetizer for everything from game day to holiday parties. Soft dinner rolls stuffed with marinara sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Each handheld pizza slider is cheesy on the inside, yet golden toasted outside, with a delicious roasted garlic butter topping. Serve these sliders warm for a truly simple appetizer that everyone will love. There never seems to be enough of these fun pizza rolls so be sure to make a double batch to enjoy with family and friends.

And we have game day snacks!! I’ve been so focused on all the cozy fall foods, that I forget it’s prime time game day season. Some of you might be looking for some new appetizers to share with family and friends. Well, that’s what we’ve got here today.

I also just really want to make these little sliders because they’re fun, easy, and delicious. I just love the idea of making pizza more of an appetizer, so these are great!

Let’s talk details, start with the roasted garlic

I wanted to come up with a way to make these really unique and special. I’ve been loving the addition of roasted garlic to recipes, so I thought a little roasted garlic butter would be perfect.

Roasting garlic is really easy. If you’ve never done it before it really adds a layer of deliciousness to your recipes.

Start with the garlic since it takes time to roast in the oven. Simply slice the top portion of the garlic head off to reveal the cloves. Then place the garlic on a small piece of foil, drizzle with olive oil, and wrap the garlic up. Roast for about forty minutes, until the garlic is deeply golden and soft.

While the garlic is roasting, make the rolls

The rolls are the simplest. You need a really soft loaf of pull part dinner rolls. I used the King’s Hawaiian Rolls, which I think are readily available for everyone!

Slice the rolls in half lengthwise, layer on your favorite marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and then provolone. Finish with freshly sliced pepperoni and a dusting of parmesan cheese.

Add the top half of the rolls and that’s it, done, see, so simple. But the roasted garlic butter makes everything special.

Finish with garlic butter

When the garlic has finished roasting, you can make the garlic butter.

Squeeze out the roasted garlic cloves and add them to a small bowl with the butter, plenty of fresh sage, dried basil, oregano, parsley, and chili flakes. I go heavy on the chili flakes, but do what’s right for you! Then add a little parmesan cheese.

Spoon the butter over the top of the rolls, letting it seep into the nooks and crannies. Wrap the rolls in foil and throw them into the oven.

As the rolls bake, your kitchen slowly starts to smell like your favorite pizzeria, which is, of course, delicious.

The garlic butter on top of the rolls melts over the rolls, really seeping down into the nooks and crannies. The sage in the butter gets crisp, and everything turns golden and perfect.

When you pull the rolls out of the oven the cheese will be bubbling away. The excitement to pull apart each roll and enjoy them is suddenly immediate.

And that’s exactly what you should do! Serve the rolls right away while the cheese is still warm and gooey.

These sliders are like pizza, but in a fun new form, and with delicious garlic butter in every bite. The garlic butter really does makes these rolls better than all the rest!

I’m excited to have these on hand for Sunday night games, but also for the upcoming holiday season! Great for Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, and all the holiday parties to come in December! They’re even festive and pretty.

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 400° F.
    2. Slice off the top portion of the garlic head to expose some of the cloves. Place the garlic on a piece of foil. Drizzle with olive oil, wrap it up, and bake for 40-55 minutes, until deeply golden and very soft.
    3. Meanwhile, place the bottom half of the dinner rolls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment. Top with pizza sauce, mozzarella, provolone, and then pepperoni. Sprinkle with half the parmesan. Place the top half of the roll over the cheese. 
    4. Let the garlic cool, then squeeze the cloves out into a bowl. Add the butter, remaining parmesan, sage, basil, oregano, parsley, and chili flakes. Mash the cloves into the butter with a fork. Spread the butter over the top of the rolls. Cover the rolls and bake 10 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking another 10 minutes, until the cheese has melted.
    5. Brush with any remaining garlic butter, serve immediately.

  1. This was amazing! My family loved it. After reading reviews I made the following changes. Pizza sauce instead of marinara sauce, shredded Italian cheese blend. I put the cheese down first then the sauce and pepperoni, no soggy bottoms.

    Brought these to a neighbors potluck last night. To say they were a hit would be an understatement!!! To prevent what I’ve seen in the comments (soggy bottoms), I brushed a little of the garlic butter on the bottom layer, then the cheese, etc. I used the savory rolls, Raos pizza sauce and followed the recipe exactly. DELISH!!!!

      Another winner!! These were so yummy!! I have a question! I have Made many different variations of sliders in the oven (always use the Hawaiian rolls) and the bottoms ALWAYS get scorched. ALWAYS, lol. I search through the reviews to see if anyone ever has the same issues and I never see anything. Any ideas? Rack is in the middle and I use a cookie sheet. Maybe the metal sheet gets too hot and scorches them? I know it’s user error (me), haha!

  3. Made these tonight and the whole family enjoyed them. After reading a couple “soggy bottom” reviews, I put on a layer of cheese first and used Rao’s pizza sauce instead of marinara. (Less liquid.) Turned out great. My nine-year-old asked if we could have them again tomorrow. Thanks for another great recipe!

    This is my first ever HBH recipe I’ve ever made and I’m a little disappointed and underwhelmed 😭 It’s not bad, but it’s not great, and we will probably never make it again. Kind of lacked flavor and was just strange. All of HBHs recipes LOOK amazing, and this one definitely looked good when I made it, but just didn’t do it taste wise. Taste > look 100%! I’m hopeful her other recipes will be better and this is just a fluke.

      1. I’m not sure- I made it as the recipe called for. My husband said the inside needed more seasoning. Maybe it was the pizza sauce brand? We used Raos.. The sweet bread with the pizza was not our fav combo even though we love both things separately. I’m making your vodka sauce with pesto this weekend and I’m sure it will be fantastic!     Flavor was delicious, but I agree with others stating it was soggy. Next time, I would either put the marinara completely on the side, or change the layering. The garlic butter on top is what made these stand out.

    These are amazing! I tripled the recipe and they turned out perfect. I didn’t need as much of the mozzarella and provolone. I spread a thin layer of sauce on the top and bottom of the rolls. I didn’t have a problem with a soggy bottom. I also would recommend cooking them only about 6 minutes uncovered. Mine got a little too brown. I will definitely make these again, and they are great as leftovers!

    Made these for a snack for football Sunday. Overall, it was an easy and delicious recipe. I especially love the roasted garlic in the butter. Like others, the bottom bun was soggy. When I make them again, I will try putting the cheese first and the sauce on top so the bottoms don’t get so mushy.

    These were a hit with my family. My son who is a rather picky eater loved them, he even had seconds! I may have gone overboard with the sauce, the bottom buns were slightly soggy. I will definitely be make these again.

    I put the cheese down first then a little dollop of sauce on each one then the pepperoni then the rest of the cheese I put the remaining marinara on the side to dip in that way they didn’t get soggy

    The butter on the rolls were very tasty!!! Unfortunately the sauce made it a little soggy, we used the marinara sparingly and put cheese down first, but it just wasn’t for us!

    We might use that butter on everything, from now on though!!

    Love this recipe!

    Made it even easier by buying Kerrygold garlic herb butter. I also used Hawaiian rolls, Rao’s marinara, and just a mozz/provolone blend (no parm). The end result was a little sweet for me, but still delicious. I think I’d use regular rolls next time or make sure to add Parm to balance out the sweet. Huge hit for football and so easy.     Amazing, delicious and super easy! Loved learning how easy it is to roast garlic and now I’m obsessed!!! Fresh chopped sage made it perfect!
    I liked the taste of the sweet roll but might try different harder bread next time since it was a tad bit soggy, or maybe will add little less marinara. But taste was still incredible!

    The base of this recipe is good but dont use sweet rolls. The sweetness throws off the flavor and the bread is too fluffy to handle the marinara. Next time I’ll use a crusty bread.

    Made this over the weekend and let me tell you… it was dee-lish! I put a little cheese on the bottom layer first, along with some pepperoni (super thinly sliced) to help protect the bottom from getting soggy as someone had mentioned previously. Will definitely make again and experiment with different “toppings”. I’m not touching that butter recipe, though! It was perfect!

    I just made these and they were delicious. The bottoms of the buns were not soggy— I put some of the cheese down as the first layer so that may have helped. The sage garlic butter was a home run!!

  30. I can’t wait to try these. I’ve done it with ham and swiss cheese with a mustard/Worcestershire sauce poppy seed butter glaze and they are always a big hit. These will be too! I actually make them the night before so all that really soaks in!!
