And we have game day snacks!! I’ve been so focused on all the cozy fall foods, that I forget it’s prime time game day season. Some of you might be looking for some new appetizers to share with family and friends. Well, that’s what we’ve got here today.

I also just really want to make these little sliders because they’re fun, easy, and delicious. I just love the idea of making pizza more of an appetizer, so these are great!

Let’s talk details, start with the roasted garlic

I wanted to come up with a way to make these really unique and special. I’ve been loving the addition of roasted garlic to recipes, so I thought a little roasted garlic butter would be perfect.

Roasting garlic is really easy. If you’ve never done it before it really adds a layer of deliciousness to your recipes.

Start with the garlic since it takes time to roast in the oven. Simply slice the top portion of the garlic head off to reveal the cloves. Then place the garlic on a small piece of foil, drizzle with olive oil, and wrap the garlic up. Roast for about forty minutes, until the garlic is deeply golden and soft.

While the garlic is roasting, make the rolls

The rolls are the simplest. You need a really soft loaf of pull part dinner rolls. I used the King’s Hawaiian Rolls, which I think are readily available for everyone!

Slice the rolls in half lengthwise, layer on your favorite marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and then provolone. Finish with freshly sliced pepperoni and a dusting of parmesan cheese.

Add the top half of the rolls and that’s it, done, see, so simple. But the roasted garlic butter makes everything special.

Finish with garlic butter

When the garlic has finished roasting, you can make the garlic butter.

Squeeze out the roasted garlic cloves and add them to a small bowl with the butter, plenty of fresh sage, dried basil, oregano, parsley, and chili flakes. I go heavy on the chili flakes, but do what’s right for you! Then add a little parmesan cheese.

Spoon the butter over the top of the rolls, letting it seep into the nooks and crannies. Wrap the rolls in foil and throw them into the oven.

As the rolls bake, your kitchen slowly starts to smell like your favorite pizzeria, which is, of course, delicious.

The garlic butter on top of the rolls melts over the rolls, really seeping down into the nooks and crannies. The sage in the butter gets crisp, and everything turns golden and perfect.

When you pull the rolls out of the oven the cheese will be bubbling away. The excitement to pull apart each roll and enjoy them is suddenly immediate.

And that’s exactly what you should do! Serve the rolls right away while the cheese is still warm and gooey.

These sliders are like pizza, but in a fun new form, and with delicious garlic butter in every bite. The garlic butter really does makes these rolls better than all the rest!

I’m excited to have these on hand for Sunday night games, but also for the upcoming holiday season! Great for Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, and all the holiday parties to come in December! They’re even festive and pretty.

These were a fantastic assemble-at-halftime Super Bowl snack. I roasted the garlic and shredded the cheese ahead of time, which meant all I had to do wast throw them together at the break and stick them in the oven. I used Hawaiian rolls and turkey pepperoni. I also considered subbing in pesto for the marinara, but in the end, everyone voted for red sauce. However, I bet a pesto version would be delicious as well. Thanks for the great recipe!

Made these for a Super Bowl party today—they were a hit! Pretty easy to make, too. I made a few minor mods. I used about 6oz of freshly sliced provolone from the store deli instead of shredded. The comments about sogginess worried me. I doubled the recipe to make 24 sliders and bought 1 full jar of marinara. When it came to building the sliders, I kept the marinara to about 1.5 cps total. Then I just served the remaining of the jar on the side for dipping. I thought that was a great way to go. Wasn’t soggy, wasn’t dry, and the extra on the side makes for an easy and customizable fix. I also layered it differently: marinara, provolone, pepperoni, mozzarella, Parmesan. I definitely will add this to my “gatherings” options!

I remember seeing this on your instagram, and knew I had to try it when we had leftover dinner rolls. I had pizza sauce to use up so I subbed it for the marinara, but otherwise made following the recipe. All 5 of my kiddos ate it, and I’m not sure if the two leftover buns will survive the night!

These have become a staple! They are so easy to throw together for busy nights. Kids and adults equally LOVE them.
Bonus: they pack well for kids lunches!

I made these for a holiday party and they were a HUGE hit! I made 24 of them and they were gone in a matter of minutes. I used the Hawaiian rolls and they were great. I think next time I might add on some caramelized onions.

    1. Hi Lyndsay,
So sorry to hear that this recipe was soggy for you! Was there anything I could help with? Please let me know! xT

  5. I was so excited to try these but they turned out really soggy. I think it was due to the amount of sauce that was called for. I will reduce it by half next time. Great idea though!

This is a bit of a challenge to rate, because I did not execute so well. The end product was tasty, but I over cooked both the garlic and the rolls. Next time I would reduce oven temp and check after 5 minutes, to make sure rolls don’t get so brown. Tieghan’s look delicious, mine looked like charcoal… but i will definitely try again. I would suggest using a good quality marinara. Sorry for any grammar/punctuation/spelling errors. I have been drinking. LOL Tieghan probably doesn’t do that either… so her stuff comes our right. LOL

    1. Hi Nicole,
Lol thanks for giving this recipe a try and sharing your feedback! Let me know if you give it another try! xT

Amazing. Just made this for my family gathering and it was a HIT! This was my first time trying roasted garlic and i love it❤️ thanks for such a wonderful recipe that will definitely be in my dinner rotation

        1. Within 5 minutes of baking after removing the foil, my roll tops were burned to a crisp. Maybe the cook time or temperature needs to be reduced–otherwise they’re great!
