Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

Our town threw a parade for the three local athletes that recently competed at the Olympics, my brother Red, Kyle Mack (who’s honestly like another brother), and Chris Corning. I was so happy to have some of my fam in town again. Unfortunately, we were missing a few siblings, but it’s nice to have Creighton, Red, and Kyle here for a quick minute.

Other than that, no real plans for the rest of the weekend. I hope to spend some time today preparing for the week ahead, possibly doing an Instagram Live (is there a recipe you’d like to see me make?), and taking some time to not think about work for like point two seconds. We’ll see how I do…

What are you guys up to this weekend?

Coming up this week on HBH I’ll be sharing a new salmon recipe, a quick and healthy…ish pasta, a couple Kentucky Derby inspired recipes, and something extra delicious for your Mother’s Day brunch. Very excited to share all the new recipes with you guys! If you are meal planning this week, check out my menu plan below, and then sign up for newsletter updates for a free grocery list, plus my meal planning tips and tricks. This email goes out tomorrow, so be sure to sign up today!

Hoping you all are having a great weekend! Enjoy this week’s Favorites!

1. Inspiring Me this Week.

My brother’s best friend, Brock Crouch. This past Sunday, my brother’s best friend Brock was filming and snowboarding (heli-boarding – using a helicopter to fly to remote destinations to ride and film) out in the backcountry in British Columbia when he was caught in an avalanche slide. I want to start by saying that Brock is OK, but it’s one of the scariest things we have all had happen. Brock’s considered another family member around here. When we heard this news it hit home hard. Brock was buried under ten feet of snow for four to five minutes. That might not seem like a long time, but even four minutes without air is a LONG time.

Thankfully Brock was with very experienced people who have a lot of avalanche training, but no amount of training fully prepares you for the real thing. The pilot, who had been watching Brock closely, immediately flew to where he believed Brock had gone under. It is a miracle that they where able to find him under all that snow, and so quickly. He was transported to Vancouver General with life threatening injuries, including 3 broken vertebrae, a torn pancreas, and the loss of many of his teeth, but he was lucky just to be alive. Up until today, we were unsure of the extent of Brock’s injuries, but we just got word that he will be able to walk away from this without having to have any surgery, and hopefully make a full recovery.

It’s a miracle.

That’s the very short version of the story, but I can’t tell you guys enough how inspired I am by this kid. Throughout this entire week, Brock’s been nothing short of a his happy self, requesting cookies, and smiling as much as possible. I’ve never met a kid with such high spirits. Even in the hardest of times, he never looked at the negatives, he was simply grateful to be alive.

I just wanted to take a minute to shout out to Brock today, and ask for you all to send him well wishes and the speediest recovery. We are just so happy and thankful he’s still here with us today. And me personally? I am so inspired by his positive energy. Just remember, when you’re feeling down, look at the positives and be happy for what you DO have. Easier said than done, but I think if Brock can do it, so can we.

2. A New Podcast, Armchair Expert.

I am obsessed with listening to podcasts while cooking and doing photoshoots. Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard is quickly becoming a favorite. So far I have listened to his interviews with Lauren Graham (who is my favorite because hello, GILMORE GIRLS), Katie Couric, and I’m in the middle of his interview with Jimmy Kimmel. I am loving them!

What are your favorite podcasts to listen to right now? Always love your suggestions.

4. My Simple Skincare Routine.

I have been getting a ton of questions about my skin care routine, so here are the three products I use everyday.

Sunday Riley Toner…this is the first product I put on after cleansing in the morning.

RMS Beauty Oil…this is my favorite product. I use it in the morning and night, and have seen such a difference in my skin since I began using.

Summer Friday’s Jet Leg Mask…this mask/moisture is the best. I’ve been using it a few times a week and it moisturizes and rejuvenates my skin.

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream…Love, love, LOVE this product. Caitlin (brother Malachi’s girlfriend and HBH assistant) recommended this to me. I use it as my foundation, and when I apply it after using the RMS Beauty Oil, it creates the perfect dewy look. Bonus, it also contains SPF 50 sunscreen.

Also, this is my favorite sunscreen.

6. My Favorite Spring Bag from Linjer.

I am loving this fun new bag from a new to me brand, Linjer. I have the tulip bag, which has a really fun pop of yellow on the inside. This bag has become my new go-to. I’m carrying it everywhere!

  1. I LOVE Armchair Expert!!! Dax is such a great podcaster. Some other fun ones I listen to are Stuff You Should Know, FoodStuff, and Part-Time Genius. All have such wide variety of topics so the information is always fresh.

  2. Hi!
I occasionally listen to podcasts, and I did listen to Armchair Expert! If you haven’t, you should check out Audible for audiobooks, I listen to them while doing chores or on long drives or trips. They’re really great as a distraction, and you’re getting a great story as well! If you like mysteries, I recommend Murder on the Orient Express. (They also help with my anxiety, when I need to escape for a bit but don’t have the energy to go to the library).
Also, I was in Boulder, visiting a mate of mine, and we went to a bistro where they had a vegetable platter, and it was so good! I thought you’d like that because you love the veg. It was on a cheese board (I think), and had roasted veggies with sauce, and one that had a batter on it (like tempura?-but most were batter-free), and it has toasts on the side.
Anyway, I hope you are well!
Also, not sure if you have much time to read, but either the audiobooks or hard copy of ‘The Ocean At The End of the Lane’ by Neil Gaiman is a good listen/read.
    Hope you are well,
    Rachel Xx

    1. Hi Rachel! Thank you so much for these suggestions! I will totally check out these podcasts, can’t wait!! Also, that bistro sounds so amazing! Maybe I will make a day trip down to Boulder soon and check it out ? Thanks again!

  3. Thank you for the Sunday Post. I enjoy reading about your delicious recipes and fashon/skin care ideas too. My heart goes out to Brock and his family and friends. He is very fortunate and strong. What a positive attitude!

    1. Thank you so much Betsy! Your well wishes mean so much! I am so glad you enjoy my Sunday posts, I truly love writing them ?

  4. I LOVE Nine Fav Things so very much! And I think it’s the perfect content! I like how you randomly discuss different topics on your mind, products that are working for you and articles you have read. So keep it up! I know it’s a tough job to write everyday and find a way to be so creative in all that you do. You are doing a beautiful job of it! Thanks for being you!

    1. Thank you so much Julianne! This is SO sweet! I am so glad you enjoy these posts, I love putting them together!

  5. Prayers and blessings for Brock. So glad he will be okay. It makes you never take things for granted, be happy.

  6. You’ve got to check out podcast, Let It Out by Katie Dalebout!!!! She is awesome, and I think youd absolutely love her!!

  7. First off, let me say that I’m a fan of your cooking and have made many recipes from your collection. I enjoy your refreshing authentic attitude and how you share anecdotes from your family. I was excited for you when your brother rocked the Olympics (even though he beat our Mark McMorris :)). I follow all of your social channels.

So this morning when I read this post I was quite looking forward to new recipes and stories. Starting off with your dear friend Brock’s accident (which I had been following on media here in BC and so happy he will walk away) I was immediately invested in your content.
However, what a came away with was a disjointed presentation of content mixed with marketing promotions for items that to me don’t seem authentic to you or your brand. Now I may be absolutely wrong and this is only my opinion, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts in particular about the $425 leather bag and skin care products that you included in your post. I didn’t feel the same level of authenticity in this post and I scanned it for the appropriate hashtag #sponsor or #partner etc and couldn’t locate. The price of the bag doesn’t seem to me to align with your brand and the plethora of skin products on the market (and a previous post about other products) isn’t really a space I saw you going. If these items are indeed your personal choices and purchases than may I suggest an inclusion of information that indicates this is not a sponsored selection. If however it is promoted content, I for one would appreciate your acknowledgement. I’m finding myself dropping so many lifestyle bloggers as their content is increasingly commercial and less real. I completely appreciate the opportunity to make a living and sponsorships may be part of your income. Back in January, you asked for feedback on Sunday posts – this is mine. I remain a fan and hope you can appreciate the sentiment behind this comment. It is in no way intended to be negative or hurtful.

    1. Hi Margaret,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so happy that you are enjoying both my recipes and my writing. I also appreciate your honest feedback. There is nothing sponsored within this post and I was not paid to promote any of these products I have talked about today. If I am working with a brand, I will always disclose that as I want my readers to know when something is sponsored. My Sunday post are a place for me to share things that I am interested in outside of cooking. I have always loved fashion, so I love sharing a little of that here in my Sunday post. Yes, the bag is expensive, but it’s one I really love and one I use everyday. For the beauty products, I also use them daily and they are the only four products I use on my skin day in and out. I have been receiving a lot of messages about what I use on my skin, so I thought I would share in today’s post. With every Sunday post I try to include a mix of life, food, and other interest of mine in hopes to provide a fun post for my readers to enjoy on Sunday. I figure that there are nine different topics, so that’s plenty of space to share all the things I am loving and if someone doesn’t love something they can just skip over that particular favorite. I hope this clears everything up for you. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions. Thank you again for reading and the feedback. I do appreciate it! Have a great Sunday night and upcoming week. Tieghan

  8. What a horrible, scary ordeal for Brock. I would like to send my prayers and well wishes to him as well and saying that yes, he is truly an inspiration. God bless!

  9. I made the lemony potatoes with burrata last night and oh my gosh were they good! I told my husband I was changing the name to “the potatoes I will be making for all future guests”!
