Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedbaked.com

(shout out to my cousin Abby for this photo of my dad and me)

Welcome to the 100th Nine Favorite Things post!! How on earth have I written 100 of these favorite’s posts? How on earth have you guys stuck around this long to read 100 of these favorite’s posts? Honestly, I have no idea, but this Sunday’s favorites post will for sure be our most exciting yet. Why? Because I’m sharing some very, very exciting news today (skip right down to favorite #1)! In addition, this post is packed with fun announcements, vacation photos, recipe videos, and all the links too.

It’s certainly a good one, which feels very appropriate for the 100th Favorite’s post!

I returned home from Costa Rica very late Wednesday night (technically it was Thursday am). I was so happy to take a hot shower and sleep in my own bed. Vacation is always fun, but there is really nothing like returning home, at least for me anyway. Home will always be my favorite place. I spent Thursday catching up on things, Friday cooking and photographing, and yesterday back on my computer. Hoping to take some time today to have a real Sunday. Hopefully, spend some time outside in this beautiful Colorado summer weather. Maybe even make this easiest summer cake as a and welcome back for my fam. What are you all up to this weekend?

Coming up this week on HBH, we’ll be sharing a new summer pasta, the perfect chicken and rice bowl for busy nights, a fun noodle recipe, a refreshing peach cocktail, and something sweet to end the week. Loving these summer recipes!!

Lastly, if you missed anything from the past week, be sure to sign up for our newsletter here. Hope you’re all having the best weekend, and enjoy this Sunday’s Nine Favorite Things!

1. Half Baked Harvest SUPER SIMPLE!!

It’s finally here!! Well, almost…after two years of work, cookbook #2 is now available for preorder. The book officially arrives in stores and online on October 29th. If you follow on Instagram, you saw that I shared this news on Thursday. But I wanted to make the official announcement here on HBH as well!

I am SO EXCITED and SO NERVOUS, but mostly just excited. This book is GOOD! The title pretty much spells it all out. SUPER SIMPLE recipes, but also super delicious…and all brand new. Think fewer ingredients, fool-proof meal-prepping, easy entertaining, Instant Pot cooking, and everything in between. We’ll be sharing more details over the next few months. More about what’s inside HBH Super Simple, where book events will be held this fall, and so much more!

Now I just can’t wait for October. You can preorder on Amazon or check out our HBH SS cookbook page for other retailers and further details. Thank you to everyone who follows along with HBH. I’m so excited to give you a new cookbook that you can use every single day. And lastly, thank you for your amazing support throughout the years. I love this little HBH community we have, you guys truly feel like family!

4. Questions of the Week:

q: I admire your hustle and work ethic, and consider you one of the BEST, what’s the hardest part?
a: Thank you!! Keeping up with it all! There are so many behind the scenes tasks involved with running HBH. The work literally never stops and there is always something that needs to be done. Taking breaks is so hard and shutting off is almost impossible. BUT I manage because I really love it and I can’t think of anything else I’d want to be doing!

q: What’s the best way to season a brand new cast iron skillet?
a: If your skillet has an enamel coating like Staub USA you don’t need to season it.

q: Would you ever do a behind the scenes of your shoots? Love your photography!
a: BTS are always so hard for me because it really is such a process from start to finish. What would you want to see most? Styling? Camera set up? Lighting? All of it?

q: What’s the most challenging part of running your own business?
a: Hiring and building out a team has been the hardest part! Finding the right people and managing them is certainly a whole new skill set! Second would be the constant work and feeling pressure (that I put on myself) to be always doing more. So balance is hard for me!

q: Cast iron or stainless pan? And why?
a: I am all about cast iron. For me personally, I think it makes the best tasting food and is the easiest to cook…and bake with. It’s pretty much all I use! @staub_usa is my go-to.

6. Photos from Costa Rica.

Well, what can I say, Costa Rica was certainly an adventure, as all Gerard family vacations are. It’s such a beautiful country and I had the best time with my family while enjoying the sunshine. We spent a lot of time at the beach, a day at Diamante Adventure park, and explored the town of Coco. I surely ate my weight in pineapple, plantains, and rice. I came home with more cocktail inspiration than I probably need. BUT, I’m excited to recreate a handful of really fun, tropical drinks.

The pictures really say it all, so…

  1. Congratulations on your new cookbook! It’ll be such a fantastic endeavor for you. Love how your new cookbook is centered around simple and comforting recipes that are perfect for a family gathering or just a cozy night in. And Costa Rica, oh my gosh, it’s so beautiful! The pictures you took are exquisite–beaches, beautiful views, food, sunshine, and fun activities to do, probably had the most fantastic time there! The sunset and the waterfall pictures were absolutely divine <3

  2. Congrats on book #2!! That’s so exciting! I have the first one and love it. We just made your waffles this past weekend and they were <3. I've tried a bunch of buttermilk waffle recipes and those have been the favorites so far!

    1. Thank you so much Sarah! So glad you love the first one and I hope you get a chance to cook from the second as well! xTieghan

  3. I can’t wait for your new cookbook! I am preordering it today!!!

  5. Hi,
I love your e-mails. Thank you.
The first paragraph of today’s requires that I, as a retired teacher, newspaper columnist, and a card-carrying member of the grammar police speak up.
(shout out to my cousin Abby for this photo of my dad and I) is grammatically incorrect. You are not alone in saying this. I scream a lot especially when I hear this mistake as part of a dialogue in a TV show or movie.
I know you would never say “shout out to my cousin, Abby for this photo of I. Which is exactly the grammar test – drop the one person and insert the other (in this case “me) and you will be fine.
Just between you and me. : > )

  6. You are an inspiration Tieghan! Don’t know how you keep coming up with new ideas. I am a self-taught cook and get bored with food easily; always need to change it up. You help me do that. You deserve much success on your endeavors! God bless you and your family!

  7. Congrats on your hundredth column! I look forward to it every week! Also excited for the release of your new cookbook! The first one is my go to gift for brides and your site is the first place that I look at for inspiration and most recommend to friends and family! You are golden!

  8. Well, what a surprise to learn you have a new cookbook going out. If this is what you have been referring to as something you could not mention just yet I really never thought of a cookbook. I guess because you told about your first one and talked about your recipes the whole time you were writing your cookbook. CONGRATULATIONS!! However, I really thought it would be something about you having a cooking show at your new BARN. Still want to see more pictures of the new place also.

  9. Ha ha…I’ve been waiting for the book announcement! I actually ore-ordered on Amazon a couple months ago! I am soooo excited!!!! Can’t wait to have it in my hands and make some great recipes from it!!

  11. Looks like you and your family had a great time on vacation. I hope you”unwound” and relaxed, Tieghan. Always hard to get back to reality, but usually within a day or two, it’s almost as if you are never gone. Congrats on your upcoming cookbook! How exciting! I just looked on my Canadian Amazon site, and they have it as a “bestseller” already! I’m sure when it’s released, it will be! You could almost eat the cover , it looks so good! I made your peach caprese salad with the toasted garlic naan “again”..It is so good! Hubby and I love it! I cut up a red plum last night and put it in there too and a few strawberries, along with the peaches, and it was good too! Something about prosciutto and peaches that go really well with each other. Yum.
