And we are back! It’s finally cocktail Saturday!!

Whoop. Whoop.

I am so excited to share today’s Brazilian inspired cocktail. Have you guys ever heard of a Caipirinha? Up until recently I’d never heard of one. Apparently, it’s Brazil’s national cocktail. Traditionally it’s made with cachaça (very similar to white rum), sugar, and lime. Kind of like a mojito, just minus the rum and mint. When I came across this cocktail the other week, I knew I had to try it…but with my own little twist (of course)! Seeing as the winter citrus season is in full swing, a minty grapefruit Caipirinha sounded pretty perfect, and trust me…it is!

This drink is refreshing, simple, and makes for the most perfect Saturday cocktail!

Traditionally, sugar is used in making this cocktail, but since I try to avoid sugary drinks at all cost, in my version here, I opted out of the sugar. As a substitute, I found that using freshly squeezed grapefruit juice added just the right amount of sweetness. That said, if you prefer a sweeter drink, feel free to add a teaspoon or two of white sugar or possibly honey for healthier sweeter version. When muddling the lime into you drink, just muddle the sugar or honey in as well. Other than that little note, this drink is very straight forward…

…fresh lime

…fresh mint

…crushed ice

…cachaça (white rum can be used if you don’t want to buy cachaça just for this drink…although I do recommend trying it as it’s delish!)

…freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

…sparkling water (not traditional, but I LOVE a fizzy drink)

Muddle everything in a glass, top with sparkles and drink. Simple as that and possibly one of the best drinks out there! <–for real, I love this one!

Happy Saturday! Hope you all have a great day and are able to end it with this minty grapefruit caipirinha in hand!

Hi… That combination looks good! But, as a brazilian, I gotta tell you that we never put rum on a capirinha. Those purists will only accept cachaça on it (regular or aged in oak barrels). I personally don’t like cachaça… So I prefer the other version we have here: CAIPIROSKA (here, we use vodka instead). Some people prefer an even lighter version called SAKEIRINHA, with japanese sake instead of cachaça. People who don’t like sugar may put sweeteners like sucralose instead! ?
